BlizzConline Postponed As Blizzard Looks To 'Reimagine' The Event

2 years 6 months ago

Blizzard canceled this year’s BlizzCon back in May due to COVID-related reasons. The plan was to reconvene in early 2022 as an online-only event, dubbed BlizzConline, but the company has also decided to postpone that event.

In a letter to fans (which you can read here), Blizzard explains it would rather devote its resources to working on its current slate of projects, which we know includes Overwatch 2 and Diablo IV.

Blizzard Cancels BlizzConline, Plans to Reimagine Future Events

2 years 6 months ago

Activision Blizzard is currently facing serious ongoing allegations of harassment and mistreatment of marginalized workers. To learn more, please visit our timeline as well as our in-depth report on the subject.

Blizzard has announced that it will be canceling BlizzConline, initially planned for early next year, while making an effort to reimagine future BlizzCon events to be more "safe, welcoming, and inclusive."

In a blog post, the company said the decision was fueled by a need to redirect the energy Blizzard would normally spend putting on the event elsewhere, specifically toward "supporting our teams and progressing development of our games and experiences."

Blizzard still plans to make some announcements for its portfolio of games in February around the time the event would have been held, it just won't be in the event format used in past years.

The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes Review – The Best Yet

2 years 6 months ago

The Dark Pictures: House of Ashes on PlayStation 5

We’re now in year three of The Dark Pictures Anthology as of the release of 2021’s House of Ashes. Starting with Man of Medan, released back in 2019, the series developed by Supermassive Games is a spiritual successor of sorts to the well-received Until Dawn. The games have been watered-down versions of Until Dawn that are fun but have never quite reached the same heights. In fact, at least in this reviewer’s opinion, the quality went down from Man of Medan to the second game, Little Hope.

Going into this review, then, I never felt it was a foregone conclusion that House of Ashes would even be better than Little Hope. Fortunately, my doubts were proven to be wrong. While the bite-sized nature of The Dark Pictures holds House of Ashes back from being a meaty package like Until Dawn, the complexity of its story and character relationships makes it a solid horror game, and the best out of the anthology so far.

House of Ashes takes place in 2003 during the U.S. invasion of Iraq. A small group of soldiers led by a satellite surveillance expert, Eric King, are acting on intelligence that Eric believes will lead them to a hidden chemical weapons silo. Of course, in hindsight, we know that a lot of the intelligence the U.S. acted on back in 2003 turned out to be bunk, but the soldiers all appear to be acting in good faith, truly believing in the mission that they had been sold on.

House of Ashes: The Kotaku Review

2 years 6 months ago

House of Ashes wants you to know that it’s a video game so bad that it sometimes undermines its own cinematic power with gameplay that feels obligatory rather than supportive of its storytelling. Yet it also wants the prestige associated with blockbuster American films with weighty themes, and gets itself into messy…

Persona 5 Royal’s Sadayo Kawakami Finally Getting Her Own Figure by Amakuni

2 years 6 months ago

With the popularity of Persona 5 and its expanded version Royal, the attention of most figure manufacturers has been focused on the main heroines part of the Phantom Thieves team, at the expense of those who aren’t playable, like Sadayo Kawakami. This is soon going to change.

Amakuni has made a new scale figure portraying the romanceable teacher in her iconic maid uniform available for pre-order.

You can reserve her right now on Ami Ami for 17,600 yen, which approximately translates into $155.

That being said, you’ll have to wait quite some time to receive your waifu, because the estimated shipping window is March 2023.

The figure is sculpted by Vispo in 1/7 scale, which means that she’s approximately 25 cm tall. She also comes with an option without the maid cap.

You can see what she looks like in the gallery below.

Ubisoft Delays Next Big Division 2 Update To 2022

2 years 6 months ago

Ubisoft has announced that the next season for The Division 2 has been delayed to 2022.

This delay comes by way of a new Ubisoft blog post discussing the current state of The Division 2, the road ahead, and of course, the now-delayed Season 8. The post says that the next title update will be one of the most ambitious yet and that as a result, the team needs more development time.

This title update will be one of our most ambitious to date,” the post reads. “We remain confident that this content will bring an exciting experience to our players and pave the way for the future of The Division 2 with future updates coming in 2022. That being said, and to make sure we deliver this content on par with our vision, we have made the decision to move our new season, game mode, and associated content release to February 2022.”

Ubisoft says this additional time will allow The Division 2 development team to deliver the best possible quality content in the new season. The ongoing live-service game will continue to receive support in the meantime, though.

2 years 6 months ago

The Division 2's long-awaited major new content update - which includes a game mode said to be entirely new to the franchise - will now launch in February next year. Ubisoft had previously said it would arrive "late 2021 at the earliest".

New content for The Division 2 was officially announced back in March, following Ubisoft's decision to continue supporting the online shooter despite initial plans to make December 2020's Update 12 its last. Since then, updates have largely been limited to re-runs of previous seasons while developer Ubisoft Massive works on delivering the next major release.

Legendary has officially announced that Denis Villeneuve’s Dune will continue its journey with a Part Two taking place Oct. 20, 2023. This news comes less than a week after the film’s North American debut.

PlayStation State of Play Includes In-Depth Look at Little Devil Inside

2 years 6 months ago

PlayStation has announced that the upcoming State of Play will include an in-depth look at Little Devil Inside.

In a short teaser trailer on Twitter, PlayStation shared a glimpse of Little Devil Inside's world, showing a brief shot of a train station.

Little Devil Inside was originally announced at the June 2020 PlayStation 5 reveal event. The trailer showed off two different stories playing out at the same time: a knight exploring a hostile world, and an old man living in Europe.

The game fell into controversy shortly after its reveal when many people on social media called out some of the game's racist enemy designs. The developers responded, promising to change the designs, saying, "Racist stereotypes of any kind were absolutely not intended."

You can visit New Vegas again in a Fallout 4 mod

2 years 6 months ago

What happens in New Vegas stays in New Vegas, they say, though New Vegas itself will not stay in Fallout: New Vegas. A new mod named Project Mojave is attempting to recreate a lot of the post-apocalyptic Sin City and surrounding areas as a Fallout 4 mod, and you can play the first slice now. But to manage your expectations: it is not an attempt to recreate Obsidian Entertainment's game Fallout: New Vegas inside Fallout 4.

World War Z Developer Saber Interactive Announces Horror Game Based on A Quiet Place

2 years 6 months ago

Well, this is a pretty surprising announcement, right? Yes, a video game based on John Krasinski’s sci-fi horror film, A Quiet Place, is officially in the works, and is being published by World War Z and Evil Dead: The Game developer Saber Interactive.

The news comes by way of a press release (h/t, Gematsu) outlining the companies involved, as well as a brief description as to what to expect.

More specifically, the US-based team is collaborating with Canadian developer Illogika and Texas-based studio Ep1t0me to help get the project off the ground. In an interesting move, Saber Interactive look like they will be overseeing the publishing of the game, rather than handling development.

A Quiet Place is being pitched as a “single-player, story-driven horror adventure game” and is set to launch “in 2022.” Unfortunately, no platforms were officially confirmed. However, the press release does go on to say: “More information will be announced later in 2021.”

Turbo Overkill is the most fun you'll have with a chainsaw leg

2 years 6 months ago

Usually, I'd assume that if a chainsaw was near someone's leg, that'd be a problem. But, when the chainsaw is embedded into your own leg and you can flick it out every time you do a butt slide, well then, it's much more of a problem for your enemies' ankles. This is exactly what you're in for with Turbo Overkill, an upcoming shooter which took Apex Legends' excellent sliding mechanics and asked, "What if we added deadly spinning blades?" I've had a chat with game director Sam Prebble and even played a little bit myself, and I think you'll like the answer.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Skiathos Airport Announced; F-35, Dash-8, CRJ 900/1000, & Kotoka Get Screenshots & Videos

2 years 6 months ago

Today third-party developers had more interesting news to share about upcoming Microsoft Flight Simulator add-ons.

First of all, we hear from IndiaFoxtEcho, which released new screenshots of its upcoming F-35 Lightning II.

We also hear that the developer has decided to delay the release beyond October to improve its quality further. Below you can read a development update and take a look at the screenshots.

Some not so good news on the F-35 release: we have been working very hard for the past few weeks to achieve a satisfactory level of quality for a release before the end of October – but it is now abundantly clear to us that it will not happen, as the plane is not as good as we’d like. We are working on several improvements which, in our opinion, will bring the product to a much better shape. Here are the major things we are working on:

COCKPIT – The graphics quality of the cockpit was considered unsatisfactory in the latest team review, and we have been working really hard to improve the geometry and texture quality.

FLIGHT MODEL – While the general performace was OK, we are not happy with sustained turns, approach speeds and response to aggressive maneuvering. Also, we are improving the engine dynamics.

AVIONICS – We are introducing a number of improvements to the Primary Control Display so that it will be one step closer to the real deal in terms of graphics and pilot interface (since we are missing the sensors simulation we think it is important that everything else is as good as we can make it).

New Halo Infinite Video Highlights Banished Leader Escharum Who Really Wants To Fight Master Chief

2 years 6 months ago

Microsoft and 343 Industries have released a new video highlighting Banished leader Escharum's desire to destroy humanity and Master Chief with it.

Look, if you're not a Spartan, a member of the UNSC, or a civilian on Earth, there's a good chance you have some beef with Master Chief, especially if you're a religious zealot or someone set on destroying humanity. That's very much the case with Escharum, who seems to be the primary antagonist of Halo Infinite's campaign (you know, besides the whole rampant Cortana AI who wants to activate an old Halo and use it to destroy all life).

Click here to watch embedded media

"Hope, it makes you weak," Escharum says in the video. "Humanity clings to the belief that a savior will come, that a hero will rise, shrouded in armor to save you. It won't. Armor can be broken. Bodies shattered. When you look back on these last days, you will realize that all you've built was a tomb. A place where hope dies."

That's a very evil monologue, Escharum.

Age of Empires 4: an excellent RTS - but tech problems need addressing

2 years 6 months ago

It has been more that 16 years since the last major Age of Empires - and in that time we've seen the demise of franchise creator Ensemble Studios and a general shift in the design of real-time strategy games. But the good news is that Age of Empires has returned with a fourth series entry, with RTS powerhouse developer Relic at the conn. The game is well worth checking out and I really enjoyed playing it, but I honestly feel that key improvements need to be made from a technological standpoint.

The Age of Empires series has so much history behind it that Relic Entertainment faced a huge challenge in resurrecting the franchise, especially in the wake of the successful remasters for the second and third games. Overall, the game is excellent with much to commend it, delivering an experience that should satisfy series stalwarts while also gently introducing the game to newcomers. As the game starts up, players are immediately introduced to the basic mechanics of the game, teaching you the staples such as resource collecting, technology and the various units' strengths and weaknesses. On top of that, there's a dedicated training game type, which goes deeper into how AOE4 works. Even the initial Norman campaign has several defining moments sculpted by the developer to teach the player more about the game's micro and macro management.
