Persona’s Composer Has Left Atlus To Work on Indies
Shoji Meguro, the Japanese composer best known for his work on the Persona series, has resigned from his position after a 25-year tenure at Atlas. He now plans to develop his own indie games.
“I know this is quite sudden, but I, Shoji Meguro, resigned from Atlus Co., Ltd. at the end of September 2021,” announced Meguro in a short statement posted to his Twitter account. According to the composer, the decision to leave the company has come so that he can focus on his dream of developing indie games.

“I’ve been creating role-playing games by myself during my spare time for the past five years now," said Meguro elsewhere in the statement. "I applied for a Round 1 Kodansha Game Creators Lab recruitment and was selected as one of the finalists. Then staff from Kodansha was assigned to work with me.”
Despite leaving the company last month, Meguro says that he has maintained a "good" relationship with Atlus. With that in mind, the composer eased fans' concerns in regards to the future of music in Atlas-made games. "I will continue to work with Atlus on game music," Meguro said. "So I hope that those of you who were concerned about the sudden announcement will feel relieved."
Lightyear Trailer Blasts Off To Infinity And Beyond
Pixar has launched the first teaser trailer for its Toy Story spin-off, Lightyear. The film stars everyone’s favorite space ranger, but with a twist.
This isn’t the same Buzz Lightyear that Tim Allen brought to life over the four mainline Toy Story films. Rather, Lightyear tells the origin story of the “real” Buzz. As in the in-universe character that the action figure is based on. Since this is a different Buzz, he’s voiced by a new actor: Captain America himself, Chris Evans.
The beautiful trailer establishes a more serious tone but it still packs plenty of lighthearted moments. Pixar is basically making its own sci-fi epic using one of its most beloved characters. Lightyear will premiere in theaters next summer.

Former World of Warcraft Devs Start Studio Where Only Female Staffer Is A Dog
Ex-Blizzard developers who started Notorious Studios seem to have exactly zero women on their development team. The staff page shows nine developers and two advisors, all of which are men, and one canine “Chief Morale Officer” named Ellie. Which means that the studio has more dogs than women. Yikes.
A Resident Evil Board Game Has Raised More Than $900,000 On Kickstarter
An officially licensed Resident Evil board game has crowdfunded over $900,000 after a highly successful start on Kickstarter.
Having launched on October 26, the game's campaign quickly smashed through its initial funding goal of £100,000 - that's around $137,000. With 15 days left of its crowdfunding drive still to go, that target now seems a distant memory. At the time of writing, the co-op horror game has just eclipsed $900,000 and it doesn't look to be slowing down.
Brace yourselves for terror — Resident Evil: The Board Game is live NOW on Kickstarter!https://t.co/rhjCrBwDWq
— Steamforged Games (@SteamforgedLtd) October 26, 2021
Resident Evil: The Board Game is being created by veteran tabletop company Steamforged Games in partnership with Capcom. Steamforged is certainly no stranger to the franchise, having previously worked on board games for Resident Evil 2 & 3. It has also made other tabletop games linked to different video game franchises including Horizon: Zero Dawn and Dark Souls, so it looks like the project is in pretty safe hands.
In its latest pursuit into Capcom's esteemed franchise, the tabletop creator will take players back to where the series began, with the upcoming board game based upon the 2002 remake of the original Resident Evil.

Lightyear Teaser Trailer Released, Film Set to Debut Summer 2022
Well, well, it looks like after all these years Woody was wrong. Buzz Lightyear is no longer just a toy. Last year, Lightyear was announced in a massive info dump from Disney with information about other Disney properties like Wandavision, Loki, Star Wars: Bad Batch, and more. And today, the world got its first look at the film’s visuals along with the first lines we’ve heard from Chris Evans as the voice as Buzz Lightyear.
The trailer starts with a wide shot of a launchpad, then quickly cuts to Buzz zipping up a space suit while wearing a t-shirt that has PROPERTY OF STAR COMMAND printed on it and a couple of dog tags that indicate his blood type is O positive. The suit seen through most of the trailer is a cloth suit that’s markedly different from Buzz’s more bulky signature space suit.
Even the spaceship that Buzz flies around in through most of the Lightyear trailer has a more realistic look than what the Star Command pilot has had throughout the years. All the while, David Bowie’s Starman is playing in the background throughout the trailer.
As the end of the teaser approaches, we see Buzz admiring the Star Command suit that is his iconic getup from the Toy Story movies. And after a quick flash of the title card, it cuts back to Buzz and another member of Star Command wearing the classic suits and talking to each other.
Buzz’s buddy reaches out to him while saying, “To infinity,” but the trailer cuts out right as buzz says, “and.” It looks like we’ll either have to wait until the next trailer or even the release of the film to hear the classic line.
Clash Royale Has New Life! Level Cap Increase And New Card Type Are Live Now
Many of Clash Royale's players reached level cap years ago and maxed out all of the cards along the way. In the last two years, the game hasn't offered much of a path forward for people that play every day. The seasonal tiers offer new tower skins and emotes, but the main hooks of the experience haven't expanded.
That changes today. Clash Royale's latest update raises the level cap for both the player and all of the cards to level 14. Developer Supercell also added three new cards to the mix, and they all offer up a unique gameplay aspect. These cards are called Champions, the first characters in the game that are somewhat controllable. You can't tell the Champions where to go and don't use their weapons to attack, but you control when they use their abilities. All you have to do is tap a new button that appears on the screen. Once pressed, the Champion does as you command.
The three Champions are the sizable Skeleton King who summons a skeletal army as he marches forward, the Golden Knight who dashes forward and can smash enemies like a bowling ball, and the Archer Queen who can cloak herself when an enemy draws near.

Dark Souls 3 Streamer Beats the Game by Only Using Morse Code
At this point, it is no secret that beating the Dark Souls games in the most ridiculous ways possible is one of the most interesting challenges in gaming. And while we’ve seen players accomplish this feat by using Rock Band drum sets and toasters, few of these feats are more impressive than what one player was just able to pull off in Dark Souls 3.
Earlier this week, a player by the name of Rudeism posted a clip to Twitter that shows them beating all 19 Dark Souls 3 bosses using morse code – a method used in telecommunication to encode text characters as standardized sequences of two different signal durations, called dots and dashes, or dits and dahs. The streamer says it resulted in a total of 258,250 to accomplish this monumental task, which you can see being executed in the tweet below.
You Can Play Your Steam Games On Xbox, Kinda
The Xbox’s library has grown, kind of, especially if your Steam library is large.
That’s because Xbox consoles can now technically play Steam games, although you shouldn’t get too excited – this can be best described as a fun thing to check out in action rather than a legitimate and viable way to play Steam games.
As reported by PCWorld, The Verge’s Tom Warren discovered that because Microsoft’s Edge browser runs on Xbox consoles, Nvidia’s GeForce Now streaming service, which allows you to log into PC store databases like Steam to play games you already own, can technically be run on these consoles. Basically, what’s happening is that you can use the Edge browser to access the GeForce Now streaming service online. You can then stream your Steam games through GeForce Now through the Edge browser on your Xbox Series X/S or Xbox One.

Of course, given that Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War took up over 200GB with Warzone and its expansions included, the file size is still likely to be pretty hefty. But we’ll take any reduction we can get at this point, right?

Far Cry 6 Emails Taunt Players For Not Beating The Game
Far Cry 6 places you on the front lines of a revolution. Yaran president Antón Castillo (played by Giancarlo Esposito of Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad fame) is manufacturing an impressively potent cure for cancer, Viviro. However, he’s utilizing labor camps and tyranny to assist with the production of the substance. Your job as Dani Rojas is to bring his totalitarian regime to its knees. Of course, the hustle and bustle of real life might halt this action-packed process. But if you take too long to topple Castillo, he’ll send personalized emails that taunt you for not beating the game, as reported by IGN.

Letter from the Editor: Feast and famine
Letter from the Editor is a new monthly column from our editor - a bit like the editorial on the first page of a magazine! - that's exclusive to all Eurogamer supporters.
In a way, this month's column is an extension of what I talked about in the first letter last month: what constitutes a busy release schedule and what doesn't. Back then, I was musing on the contrast between 2021's meagre lineup of big releases and the parade of positive reviews of mostly smaller games we have run recently. (Indeed, in the weeks since I wrote that, we've added two more Essentials and Stephen Totilo's Axios Gaming newsletter did us the honour of undertaking a statistical analysis of our reviewing - complete with graph! - pointing out that we've equalled 2020's tally of Essentials with fewer games reviewed overall and two months still to go in the year.)
Shadow Warrior 3 delayed into next year
The fast-paced, fast-talking violence of Shadow Warrior 3 will not arrive this year after all, now pushed back into "early 2022." Devolver Digital and developers Flying Wild Hog explain it's the usual reason: they want more time to make the FPS good, yeah? A good reason. For now, you can watch the new trailer announcing the delay.
NHL 22 Review – Hardly Making the Cut
NHL 22 on PS5
With a new generation of consoles come heightened expectations, and for NHL 22, it is not just the visuals that are getting scrutiny thanks to a shift to the Frostbite engine, but also gameplay features that will supposedly differentiate this year’s edition from the last. Upon spending significant time with NHL 22, one cannot help but feel conflicted for a game that could have done so much more but stumbles at the important moments.
