Skyrim Mod Uses ChatGPT and Other AI Tools to Give NPCs a Memory and Endless Things to Say

11 months 3 weeks ago

A Skyrim modder named Art From The Machine has shown off a mod they're working on that uses ChatGPT and other AI tools to give NPCs a memory of your adventure, endless things for them to say, and a way to ask them questions with your voice.

As reported by PC Gamer, this mod uses ChatGPT in concert with xVASynth for text-to-speech that lets NPCs speak these new answers with an AI version of their voice and Whisper for speech-to-text so players can use their own voice via a mic to ask questions to them.

As you can see in the video here, the new responses from the NPCs aren't quite natural as of yet and can be a bit slow, but it shows promise of a world where NPCs can comment on nearly everything you do and even answer questions directly from the player that aren't just canned responses from a list of dialogue options.

For example, the video released by Art From The Machine shows a conversation with Ulfberth War-Bear from Warmaiden's in Whiterun, and the player can ask him what the store's hours of operation are and even how much time remains until the store closed based on the in-game clock.

He is also seen describing a sword the player picks up, showing that any NPC - with the proper knowledge, of course - could dynamically explain various items in the world to you as part of a conversation instead of having that info solely in text form in some menu.

"It seems to be a well-crafted iron sword with a soul gem embedded in the hilt. The enchantment on it allows the wielder to capture the souls of their enemies," Ulfberth War-Bear says.

Shadows of Doubt is a detective game with too many threads to untangle

11 months 3 weeks ago

I hope you don't mind if I get a little frank with you here. I've struggled to write this piece on Shadows of Doubt for several days. Not because I don't know what to say - I know what I did and didn't like during my time exploring several different generated cities - but because I'm not sure how to string together my thoughts on this game. And I think the reason why I've found it so hard is because I'm not sure Shadows of Doubt itself knows entirely what it wants to be.

We've previously written about Shadows of Doubt before. Martin covered the game for Rezzed Digital in 2020 and I read through his thoughts before I started playing. He was impressed by what he saw, and I know Martin's a good egg, which made me excited to try it for myself. The various descriptors which have been given to Shadows of Doubt had me scratching my head though. Martin called it "a first-person detective stealth game set in a procedurally-generated noirish city", while developer Cole Jefferies also describes it as sci-fi noir and an immersive sim.

It's certainly a detective game. The game doesn't hold your hand while you solve cases. It's up to you to collect evidence and figure out who the culprit is. The in-game pinboard where all your evidence hangs will automatically create connections between linked items. It also allows you to make your own notes and connections between bits and bobs, a physical space in-game to help you make sense of the crime.

Seele Works with Many Honkai: Star Rail Seele Relics and Light Cones

Best Honkai: Star Rail Seele Relic and Light Cone Build Guide

In some HoYoVerse games, it can feel like a character needs a certain set of equipment to be really great. But with Seele in Honkai: Star Rail, it’s easy to figure out many of the best Light Cones and Relic set options for a build. She’s an incredibly versatile character! As long as you’re boosting her attack and speed with her equipment, she’ll be a fantastic damage dealer. So like Bailu, she’s a low-stress sort of ally.

What are the best Light Cones for a Seele build in Honkai: Star Rail?

Most of The Hunt three-star Light Cones work for Seele in Honkai: Star Rail. Like Adversarial boosts her speed by at least 10% temporarily every time she beats an enemy, and since she’s designed to be someone you have defeat foes so she earns that extra turn, it works out. Arrows is good, due to it increasing her rate of critical hits for the first three turns of battle, making it easier for her to KO enemies and earn that extra turn. Likewise, Darting Arrow means after she knocks out an enemy, her attack increases by at least 24% for three turns, which works perfectly for her kit.

In fact, the three-star Light Cones are so good, you may want to prioritize them over four-star ones. I’ve been using River Flows in Spring on my Seele though, and it helps. It isn’t Superimposed, so it means her damage is up by 24% and speed boosted by 12% when a battle begins until she takes damage, and both of those ensure she hits fast and hard.

It’s Easy to Find Relics and Light Cones for Bailu in Honkai: Star Rail

11 months 3 weeks ago

Best Honkai: Star Rail Bailu Relic and Light Cone Build Guide

If you’re lucky enough to get Bailu as a character in Honkai: Star Rail (like I did), then you basically get a fantastic healer that’s easy to find the best Relic set and Light Cones for. Of course, a part of this is because the game is so new. There’s really only one group of Relics that suits her. With Light Cones, any one that improves her healing powers works!

What are the best Light Cones for a Bailu build in Honkai: Star Rail?

The easiest Light Cone to get for Bailu is Cornucopia. It’s a common three-star you can get in the gacha. It isn’t exceptionally strong, but it increases her Outgoing Healing by at least 12% after she uses a Skill or Ultimate, which is perfect for her.

If you’re lucky enough to get it in the gacha, the four-star Shared Feeling is perfect for her as well. (Even though, well, it’s meant for Natasha.) Whenever Bailu would heal when this one is equipped, she’d regenerate at least two energy for everyone in the party and her Outgoing Healing increases by 10% each time she uses her Skill. This is the one I ended up getting and can attest works wonderfully.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie continues to be a massive success and became the first film of 2023 to leap past $1 billion at the global box office.

According to Variety, the film has grossed $490 million in North America and $532 million internationally, adding up to rough total of over $1 billion. Despite a tepid critical reception, Illumination’s adaptation of Nintendo’s flagship franchise has already become the highest-grossing video game film ever, the highest opening weekend, and the top-grossing film of 2023 so far.

Where are the 7 Honkai: Star Rail Wanted Posters on Jarilo-VI

11 months 3 weeks ago

Where are the 7 Honkai: Star Rail Wanted Posters in Belobog Jarilo-VI

There's a way to get an achievement and avatar profile picture in Honkai: Star Rail if you find out where the seven Silvermane "wanted" posters in the Jarilo-VI Belobog Administrative District are. This isn't an official sidequest. Rather, you only stumble upon it by investigating the wanted posters of the Trailblazer, Dan Heng, March 7th, and Sampo on the map. Once you find all of them, you get a small number of rewards.

To be honest, finding six out of the seven wanted posters in Honkai: Star Rail is really easy. All you need to do is basically check walls in the Belobog Administrative District, as the ones for Dan Heng, March 7th, and Sampo will be plastered on them. Here's a gallery showing here those are on walls, with the minimap offering more exact positioning.

[gallery columns="2" size="full" link="file" ids="961379,961387,961380,961382,961383,961384"]

The tricky one is the Trailblazer wanted poster, as it isn't on a wall! It's on a message board. You'll find it on the western side of the stairs on the northern half of the map.

[gallery columns="1" size="full" ids="961388,961387,961386,961384" link="file"]

Also, to make things even clearer, here is the map showing where I found every Honkai: Star Rail Jarilo-VI Administrative District wanted posted.

[gallery columns="1" size="full" ids="961374" link="file"]

Once you find them all, you get a 50 Credits!? achievement (which nets you 5 Stellar Jade), 2 Adventure Logs, 20 Shields, and a Wanted Poster Profile Picture.

Apex Legends Season 17 launch date confirmed, adds new Legend Ballistic and weapon mastery system

11 months 3 weeks ago

Apex Legends: Arsenal, the 17th season of the ever popular battle royale, will land on Tuesday, 9th May. Alongside map changes, a new mastery system, and evac towers, we're being treated to a brand new Legend to kick this season off with a bang.

August "Ballistic" Brinkman is a veteran of the Thunderdome Games, the predecessor to the Apex Games we know today. After a tragedy, Ballistic retired and disappeared from public view. Until now, that is, with Ballistic back and ready to show the younger generation of Legends just how it's done.

Ballistic's abilities are well suited to both ranged and close quarters combat in any mode you choose to play. However, he truly shines at singling out a target and taking them out in a stylish manner. His passive 'The Sling' allows him to carry a third weapon but only with its base statistics. This means no attachments or upgrades, if you put a purple tier weapon in, it will instantly become its base tier. His tactical 'Whistler' can overheat enemy weapons, and his ultimate 'Tempest' buffs not only him but his entire team with infinite ammunition for a period of time.

CMA Says Microsoft Would Lose 'Substantial' Money By Making Call of Duty Exclusive in 'All Plausible Scenarios'

11 months 3 weeks ago

Among the many findings in the more than 400-page report released by the UK's Competitions and Markets Authority blocking the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft, the agency concludes that the fears put forward by Sony regarding Call of Duty exclusivity are unwarranted. In fact, the UK regulator determines that Xbox would lose "substantial" money if it ever tried to keep Call of Duty all to itself.

While the exact numbers have been redacted to protect the privacy of the third-parties involved (Sony, Xbox, and Activision Blizzard), the report specifically models two theoretical scenarios where Microsoft could attempt to remove Call of Duty from PlayStation platforms, before concluding that "it would not be financially profitable for [Microsoft] to engage in a total foreclosure strategy."

The conclusion is drawn from, among other things, the "critical diversion ratio," which is the rate at which PlayStation Call of Duty players would need to switch over to Xbox in order for it to become profitable for Microsoft, and how much those new players are likely to spend on Call of Duty in the five years following a total foreclosure strategy by Microsoft. By analysing the lifetime total value (LTV) of Call of Duty players, the CMA estimates that Microsoft would see a net loss in the billions over those five years.

Meta Quest Gaming Showcase 2023 Announced for June With 'Over 40 Minutes of Content'

11 months 3 weeks ago

The third annual Meta Quest Gaming Showcase has been announced for June 1, 2023, at 10am PT/1pm ET and it is set to feature "over 40 minutes of content" on upcoming VR releases.

Meta announced the news alongside a brief teaser video that includes a short clip of a mystery game that seems to take place in a desert and potentially shows Loki's helmet on the ground.

One of our favorite Meta Quest games is Asgard's Wrath and it, among other things, lets you hang out with everyone's favorite trickster god. There were no games mentioned in the announcement for 2023's Meta Quest Gaming Showcase, so this could possibly be teasing Asgard's Wrath 2, some sort of DLC, or something else entirely.

What Meta did promise, however, is that fans can expect "new game announcements, gameplay first-looks, updates to existing games, and more during the main event." In addition, this year's showcase will feature a brand-new pre-show beginning at 9:45am PT/12:45pm ET that will include even more "game updates and debut trailers."

PlayStation’s 10 Live Service Games Will Be From ‘Different Genres’ and For ‘Different Audiences’

11 months 3 weeks ago

PlayStation says that its 10 live service games in development will be in different genres and for different audiences. Furthermore, PlayStation is aware of the fierce competition between live service games and the time investment they take from players.

In an interview with GamesIndustry.biz, PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst said, “There is a risk that we talk about 'live service' in generic terms – as if it is a single genre or even a single business model. PlayStation Studios are making a variety of games that could be referred to as 'live services', targeting different genres, different release schedules, and at different scales.”

He continued: “We are also creating games for different audiences, and I take confidence from our track record in creating worlds and stories that PlayStation fans love.”

Hulst explained that each of the studios PlayStation recently acquired is on its own trajectory. Additionally, whether or not an acquisition occurs depends on what the studio needs to grow and succeed. Being part of PlayStation Studios allows access to a global network of other studios, as well as technology and service teams.

“The priority for each studio is to deliver their own project – to make the best game that they can,” Hulst said.

Star Wars Jedi: Survivor Has a New Performance Patch for PC, PlayStation and Xbox Update Arriving Soon

11 months 3 weeks ago

A new update for Star Wars Jedi: Survivor has rolled out today, May 1, for PC players that addresses some of the game's ongoing performance issues, and an even more extensive update is planned for console versions tomorrow, May 2.

EA took to Twitter to announce that PC players can now download an update that brings "performance issues for non-raytraced rendering." Meanwhile, an update for consoles on Tuesday packs a massive slate of improvements expected to rectify many of the woes players have experienced since the game's launch last week. It's important to note that the PC version has already received these other updates.

The patch offers fixes for a multitude of crashes and glitches that have caused problems throughout Respawn's newest adventure in a galaxy far, far away. But it's really the promise of general performance improvements that will be a relief for many who purchased the game on day one, hopefully providing a much-needed reduction of screen-tearing and graphical hiccups.

PSA: The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Spoilers Have Begun to Leak

11 months 3 weeks ago

It may be hard to believe, friends, but we are one week away from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's launch week! While that is undoubtedly very exciting, leaks have unfortunately started to happen online and we're here to remind you to stay safe out there.

We here at IGN won't be sharing any of these spoilers or links to them, but there are threads on Reddit's r/GamingLeaksAndRumours and others that have started to share some screenshots, gameplay footage, and more. These appear to be from 4Chan, Discord, and other places.

We've also confirmed that art from what appears to be The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom's art book have also leaked to some who may have gotten their hands on a copy of it early. There was a leak of the art book back in February, and it seems more people have their hands on it now or could be sharing images again. Either way, the danger of spoilers is high!

In addition to staying off certain Reddit pages and being careful in the comments of articles and such, we'd like to encourage people, if they'd like, to mute keywords on social media platforms like The Legend of Zelda, Tears of the Kingdom, Link, Hyrule, Ganon, etc.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12, 2023, and we were finally able to get our hands on the much-anticipated sequel to 2017's The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild recently.

Meet Welt Yang in a New Honkai: Star Rail Trailer

11 months 3 weeks ago

Meet Welt Yang in a New Honkai: Star Rail Trailer

HoYoVerse introduces playable characters with its “Keeping up with Star Rail” series of videos, and the latest one looks at the Honkai: Star Rail five-star Welt Yang. He’s a five-star Imaginary element character, and his Nihility path means he focuses on inflicting debuffs on groups of enemies when he attacks. The footage specifically shows how his Skill, Technique, and Ultimate all slow enemies down.

All three of those Welt Yang abilities can apply the debuff to a group of enemies in Honkai: Star Rail. If you use his Gravitational Imprisonment Technique outside of a fight, then the enemy will move slower in the field, and they’ll start a battle Imprisoned. This means their actions and speed will both be delayed. When he uses the Edge of the Void Skill, random enemies take damage and their speed will be reduced for two turns. This attack hits three times, and can hit different opponents each time. Should someone use the Synthetic Black Hole Ultimate, then every enemy takes damage and gets the action and speed-delaying Imprisoned status mentioned earlier.

New Baizhu Genshin Impact Trailer Hints at His Illness

New Baizhu Genshin Impact Trailer Hints at His Illness

Ahead of the debut of the Baizhu banner on May 2, 2023, HoYoVerse shared a new trailer for the five-star Genshin Impact trailer. This is one of the cinematic character demos. This means while some gameplay elements are shown, it's more about introducing the character's personality and background. In the case of Baizhu, it means again referring to his undisclosed illness and the severity of it.

The video begins with a pot in the illness brewing some sort of medication. One of the Genshin Impact Treasure Hoarder enemies comes up to steal it, but Baizhu stops them. Changsheng, the talking snake always by his side, then notes that more showed up to steal it. Baizhu then uses his Dendro catalyst abilities to attack them while healing and shielding himself. At about the 1:16 mark, Changsheng references mortality. After a Treasure Hoarder threatens his life, Baizhu says, “My mortality is no one’s concern but mine.” This is a reference to the fact that the character is apparently suffering from a deadly illness in-game.

The video ends with a twist revealing exactly what kind of medicine Baizhu was working on, as well as a cameo from his assistant Qiqi.

This is one of two ways HoYoVerse is introducing the character ahead of his playable debut. There's also a web event running until May 3, 2023.

Netherrealm Mortal Kombat 12 Video May Reference Sands of Time Hourglass

Netherrealm Mortal Kombat 12 Video May Reference Sands of Time Hourglass

A new Netherrealm video designed to thank fans and players seems like it may be teasing Mortal Kombat 12 with a peek at the Sands of Time hourglass from Mortal Kombat 11. As we may recall, Kronika held it during the game, with the endings of that title showing who controlled it based on certain actions. (The events of Mortal Kombat 11: Aftermath suggested what the New Era might hold.)

The over two minute video involves members of the staff thanking people for playing entries in the series. Artists, engineers, designers, directors, producers, managers, animators, and developers for playing the game for 30 years. Notably, Co-creator Ed Boon showed up at the 1:47 mark and said, "we're not quite done yet." After his appearance, the possible Mortal Kombat 12 teaser showing a grain from the Sands of Time hourglass Kronika held in the eleventh game appears, then explodes.

We already know that Mortal Kombat 12 is in development and on the way. It was referenced during the Warner Bros Discovery Fourth Quarter 2022 Earnings Call. At the time, it was noted as coming "this year" in 2023.

404 Game Re:Set Passes 1 Million Download Milestone

404 Game Re:Set Passes 1 Million Downloads

Sega and Yoko Taro announced their new mobile game 404 Game Re:Set passed the one million download hallmark. It took the game only about a week to hit the milestone. It launched on April 25, 2023 in Japan, and the official Twitter account noted the achievement on May 1, 2023. There's also going to be a bonus gift for 10 figure gacha tickets and 10 figure expansion patches.

As a reminder, the figures in 404 Game Re:Set are different from the characters. You can display them in-game and essentially use them as a sort of equipment to improve your characters. The tickets let you pull 10 times on the gacha to get them, and the expansion patches let you improve them.

Currently, it isn't possible to download and play 404 Game Re:Set in English, as the game only launched in Japan. We don't know when a worldwide launch could occur. However, other Yoko Taro-affiliated mobile games like SINoAlice and NieR Reincarnation both eventually appeared worldwide.

Ahead of hitting this hallmark, the game did begin its first event. That added a new character based on Virtua Fighter. She's voiced by Fire Emblem Engage Yunaka voice actress Ai Fairouz.

404 Game Re:Set is available to download on mobile devices in Japan.
