Watercolor Adventure Game Dordogne Gets 2022 Release Date

2 years 6 months ago

Dordogne is a lovely-looking adventure game that’s been floating under the radar for a while now. Developed by French developer Un je ne sais quoi and animation company Umanimation, the narrative puzzle adventure game tells an emotional, slice-of-life childhood story brought to life with hand-crafted, watercolor visuals. The game has found a new publisher in Focus Entertainment (formerly known as Focus Home Interactive, publisher of Sherlock Holmes and Trackmania) and a 2022 release window.

The game takes place in the French region of the same name. Players control Mimi, a woman who returns to her late grandmother’s countryside home, where she spent many summers as a child. Her grandmother has left several puzzles and letters to remind Mimi of their time together, which players relive as a 10-year old version of Mimi. Players jump back and forth between past and present Mimi to solve riddles, collect photos and other objects to fill Mimi’s journal – all to remind you of the loving relationship between her and her grandmother. You can watch a slice of extended gameplay in the trailer below.

Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water Interview – Director Discusses Remaster & Possibility of a New Game

2 years 6 months ago

The remaster of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water (Also known as Project Zero: Maiden of Black Water in Europe) is about to be released to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the horror franchise.

To hear more about the game, Twinfinite had a chat with series director Makoto Shibata.

Of course, we also asked him about a possible future for the franchise, with Shibata-san mentioning that he’d like to consider a possible new game given the positive response from the fans.

Giuseppe: What determined the decision to develop a remaster of Fatal Frame: Maiden of Black Water?

Makoto Shibata: As it’s the 20th anniversary of the Fatal Frame series, we all really wanted to express our thanks to our dedicated fans so we decided to bring Maiden of Black Water, the latest entry in the series, to all of the current platforms.

Giuseppe: Is there any reason why the series has been dormant for seven years?

Makoto Shibata: Yes, this is because the director and myself have been involved in the development of other titles.

Guerrilla Offers a Closer Look at Horizon Forbidden West’s Abilities

2 years 6 months ago

As February's release of Horizon: Forbidden West draws nearer, Guerrilla has updated fans on some of the new abilities that players will be able to utilize across combat and exploration in the game, including a grapple and glider, as well as some fun new combat techniques.

In a post focusing on traversal published on the PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla spoke further about some of the new tools that players will have, as well as factors that have influenced Forbidden West's new combat decisions. Lead Systems Designer David McMullen explained that a new high vault mechanic "essentially allows Aloy to hoist herself on top of any object of jumpable height with room to pull up. Combined with the ability to free climb and adding grapples to our environment, the potential for exploration is greatly increased.”

He also explained more about the Pullcaster and Shieldwing, two new tools shown off back in June. The Pullcaster is multi-function, and primarily works much like you'd expect a grapplehook in a game to function. However, it has a second function as a winch, which means "the player can dynamically manipulate, move and destroy the objects in the environments," according to McMullen. "Think about pulling a hidden loot chest from a ledge, or tearing open a vent to create a new climb path,” he adds.

2 years 6 months ago

We got a solid glimpse at Horizon Forbidden West’s improved combat/exploration systems during Sony’s State of Play earlier this year. New gadgets and visual cues give Aloy an unprecedented level of freedom to maneuver around the open world as well as bring down humanoid and machine enemies. The second in a series of developer updates, a recent post on the Official PlayStation blog delves into how Horizon Forbidden West’s various mechanics emphasize player-choice like never before.

This time around, lead systems designer David McMullen and lead combat designer Dennis Zopfi have taken to the main stage to discuss what makes Forbidden West’s gameplay so deep and satisfying.

  • Processor: Intel Core i5-6600K / AMD FX-6300
  • Memory: 8GB

Horizon Forbidden West Gameplay Details Revealed in New Dev Blog

2 years 6 months ago

Guerrilla has written up another PlayStation Blog post to provide a ton of new Horizon Forbidden West gameplay details. Their previous blog post discussed the evolution of Aloy as a character, while this one focuses on her abilities in the sequel.

Open-world traversal is a big part of Horizon Zero Dawn, and the developers have found new ways to keep that same feeling while adding in new options to get from point A to point B. Aloy can mount new machine types, climb across different terrain without tribal handholds, use grapple points to get to specific spots, swim underwater, and use the Shieldwing to glide down from high places.

Halo Infinite Campaign Finally Revealed in Detail With an Overview Trailer

2 years 6 months ago

Between trailer reveals during technical preview sessions and the recent flight-testing, developer 343 Industries has showcased plenty of Halo Infinite’s multiplayer. What it has been less forthcoming with, though, are details on the game’s campaign and storyline, which we really haven’t seen much of since the game’s initial (and controversial) initial reveal last year. Since then, 343 Industries delayed the game and has been quiet on its campaign ever since — until now.

Today, in a lengthy six-minute presentation, key elements of the campaign are given a thorough overview. What we see is a much more expansive sandbox experience than previous Halo games, featuring mechanics that should be familiar to video game players but necessarily Halo itself. That includes Far Cry-style outpost taking and hostage rescue missions, in addition to an even greater focus on vehicular combat. There also seems to be more robust progression mechanics that allow you to upgrade your Master Chief at a more granular level than in previous games.

You should also get a sense of the graphical improvements made since the campaign’s initial reveal, as well as what appears to be a focus on super fluid, 120fps gameplay that should make its gunplay feel tactile and fluid to control.

Of course, we also get a flavor of Halo Infinite’s storyline and the all-new dynamic between Master Chief and Cortana, and the ongoing battle against The Covenant, which picks up after the events of Halo 5.

God of War PC Version Is Being Handled By External Developer

2 years 6 months ago

Sony has confirmed that the upcoming God of War PC port will be handled by Canadian studio Jetpack Interactive. The company previously provided engineer support for Dark Souls' PC version.

In a statement provided to ArsTechnica, Sony said that original God of War developer Sony Santa Monica is overseeing the PC version's development, which is being handled by Jetpack Interactive. The studio, based in Vancouver, is a port-focused developer who has previously worked with EA on Plants vs Zombies: Garden Warfare 2, and NBA Live 15 and 14. It also completed the PS4 port duties on Orcs Must Die! Unchained for Robot Entertainment.

The choice of Jetpack Interactive may come as a surprise, since Sony acquired PC port specialist Nixxes earlier this year. The deal was only announced in July, though, so if the God of War PC version has been in development for a while, that may be the reason Jetpack and not Nixxes are handling the port. We expect Nixxes to be involved in further projects, though, since Sony has made a commitment to bring PlayStation games to PC.

Halo Infinite campaign trailer shows big levels with bases to capture

After focusing a lot of attention on Halo Infinite's multiplayer, Microsoft have turned back to showing off the story campaign. Today's new campaign trailer, sadly, did not give us another hot WWE promo from a space-ape but it did kinda have Far Cry-ish vibes. Watch on for Master Chef zooming around big levels in vehicles, causing big explosions, upgrading his abilities, and bantering with his new Tamagotchi girlfriend.

New Halo Infinite Campaign Showcase Highlights New Cortana-Like AI, Bosses With Health Bars, And More

2 years 6 months ago

Less than two months from launch, Microsoft and 343 Industries have finally shown off more of the Halo Infinite campaign. Today's six-and-a-half-minute campaign overview video was the first time we've seen Halo Infinite campaign footage in a year.

In it, we get a look at some of the improved art and visuals that came by way of a delay that put Halo Infinite's release date into 2021 (rather than the original 2020 release date), and sure enough, it looks great. Anyone who's been playing the recent technical multiplayer previews as of late is familiar with these improved visuals, too.

Halo Infinite Campaign Footage Reveals Outpost Gameplay and a New AI Companion

2 years 6 months ago

A new video detailing the Halo Infinite campaign has revealed brand new footage of the Master Chief's next mission, as well as an introduction to his new AI and some of the activities that can be completed.

Halo Infinite's campaign - which 343 Industries claims is the biggest Halo campaign to date - is set on the Zeta Halo, an open world Halo ring where the Banished, a splinter faction from the Covenant, led by the Brutes, have settled. They've been building outposts, which can be found on your travels and taken out, akin to similar outposts in open world games like Far Cry. In the video, we can see Chief finding an outpost - named Ransom Keep - and scanning it for weak points. He then uses a rocket launcher to detonate a large silo, suggesting each outpost may have different ways of shutting them down. This is part of 343's intention to offer "more freedom to take down the Banished".

This chapter of the Halo saga will see Master Chief working with a new AI companion, known as The Weapon. Following the events of Halo 5 and Cortana's defection, The Weapon has been created to answer the question of what happened to Chief's previous AI, and to lock her down. It seems like once again the relationship between Cortana and Chief will be in the spotlight for Halo Infinite.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Review – Hooked on This Feeling

2 years 6 months ago

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy on PS4

Like many, I had a lot of questions going into Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy. Would it try to simply replicate the success and style of its MCU movie counterparts? How does it compare to Marvel’s Avengers and Marvel’s Spider-Man? What new and fun things does it bring to the table?

Thankfully, despite having some preconceived notions, expectations, and comparisons already at the forefront of my mind, I’m happy to say that not only does Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy stand out in its own right, it does so marvelously.

Unlike the movies, which sees everyone on their own at the start (except for Rocket and Groot), Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy starts with the team already being established. Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot have all already met and done 14 missions together, though they are still as dysfunctional as ever.

Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy review: a blast from the past

2 years 6 months ago

In a video game landscape that's pocked with millions of map markers and vast open worlds, Marvel's Guardians Of The Galaxy is a linear action adventure game with a clear beginning, middle and an end. It's an approach that feels refreshingly old-school, in the way it guides you smoothly from one story bit to another. But this doesn't mean it's one big flatline without any peaks, troughs, or surprises.

If anything, the game as a whole is a wonderful surprise. Planet-hopping as Star Lord is great fun, made even better by his colourful compatriots and the genuinely funny craic they share. Marvel fan or clueless layman? Doesn't matter, you're in for a good time no matter where you sit on the MCU scale.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy review - breezy but unfocused action

2 years 6 months ago

I'm not sure what Guardians of the Galaxy wants to be.

On one hand, it's a wonderfully accessible adventure wrapped up in family-friendly packaging, with an action-packed storyline that takes you on a delightful voyage through some of the galaxy's most colourful climes. On the other, it boasts an aggressively complex combat system that requires a high degree of digit-dexterity and rarely forgives your mistakes.

Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy Review

2 years 6 months ago

If you, like me, played the Square Enix-published Marvel’s Avengers and said to yourself “I wish this had just focused on the single-player campaign instead of all this game-as-a-service stuff,” then do I have good news for you: Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, also published by Square Enix, has flown in to save the day. With no microtransactions, no multiplayer, and a relatively meaty story, it’s further proof that linear, single-player campaigns haven’t gone anywhere. Its simple but entertaining combat and fairly straightforward level design won’t revolutionize the genre or anything, but those solid fundamentals and the metric ton of personality slathered on top of them are more than enough to make Guardians of the Galaxy some good old-fashioned fun.

Despite being named after the team, you spend the entirety of this roughly 18-hour campaign playing as Peter Quill, AKA Star-Lord. That was a surprising choice to me, but it’s one that ends up working very well for the story that’s being told. The main plot is basically exactly what you’d expect: a cosmic comic book adventure about the Guardians trying to get out of debt, learning to work together, and maybe saving the galaxy along the way – but it’s framed by events that are much more personal to Peter. The result is an engaging story that balances its constant barrage of spectacle and banter with some genuinely heartfelt moments, for both Peter and the rest of the crew: Gamora, Drax, Rocket, and Groot.
