Review: Jack Jeanne Is My New Favorite Switch Otome Game

Review: Jack Jeanne Is My New Favorite Switch Otome Game

I suspected I’d ike Jack Jeanne would be a game I’d enjoy when I first learned about it. The art Sui Ishida shared looked gorgeous, and I’m a sucker for rhythm games of any sort. I followed it off and on, especially since there were hints of a worldwide release, but tried not to get too invested. After so many years when otome games wouldn’t get localized, I suppose I always have this lingering fear. After going through it two times now, however, I can’t help but feel like Jack Jeanne is my favorite otome game on the Switch.

Diablo 4's most elusive rare item has finally dropped in the wild - here's what it does

1 year 5 months ago

The last of Diablo 4's super-rare elusive items have finally been discovered in the wild.

Last week, Diablo 4's lead class designer, Adam Jackson, jumped online to "clear up" the confusion around some of Diable 4's rarest unique items, and it's from Jackson that we learned the names of the six rarest ones: Andariel's Visage, Doombringer, Harlequin Crest, Melted Heart of Selig, Ring of Starless Skies, and The Grandfather.

Up until that point, some extraordinarily lucky players had discovered five of the six items, but the most elusive one, Melted Heart of Selig, was still the stuff of legend… until yesterday, it seems, when the item finally dropped for a Chinese necromancer.

Which Mortal Kombat Characters Do You Like Best?

1 year 5 months ago

best mortal kombat characters

It's a good year for fans of Mortal Kombat. We'll see the series rebooted again in 2023 with Mortal Kombat 1. Already we've seen teases for it. It doesn't seem like the full cast is revealed just yet. But quite a few fighters are confirmed to return. Ahead of its launch later this year, we figured we'd talk about some of the Mortal Kombat characters we like best.

I'm not great at playing Mortal Kombat! Which means I'm the sort of player who gets annoying. I find a character that I like and a move that's handy for me, and I'll spam it in the hopes things work out for me. As a result, I feel like Sub Zero is the best Mortal Kombat character, because I can learn the input for his Ice Ball attack, use it, attack, then run away. (Maybe I'll occasionally slide to change things up!) -- Jenni

Not to be contrarian to Jenni's love of Sub-Zero, but the best character is clearly Scorpion (with Mileena right on his tail). Flinging the spear to pull someone in for an uppercut? The cry of "Get over here!"? Pulling off the mask to reveal a fire-breathing skull? Scorpion is the reason I picked up the series years ago, and was the only reason I ever beat Mortal Kombat on the Game Boy. For that alone, he'll be the best character forever. -- Joel

The One Piece live-action SH Figuarts entries will be figures of Luffy and Zoro that look like Inaki Godoy and Mackenyu.

Ahead of Anime Expo 2023, Bandai's Tamashii Nations revealed there would be One Piece live-action SH Figuarts figures. Now, we know the identities of them. The two will be based on how the Inaki Godoy and Mackenyu versions of Luffy and Zoro look in this One Piece adaptation. There's no release date for either one. This means we don't know if they'll launch alongside the Netflix show in August 2023.

Here is the announcement revealing both of the figures. In each case, a painted prototype appeared. This could mean that the release window for both is fairly close.

There's a new t-shirt design on sale on the Giant Bomb store designed by @jearum! You have six possible colors to choose from and there is also a sweatshirt version of the design. If you experience any issues with shipping or international rates, please send an email to support@giantbomb.com.

Related to site quandaries and issues, many of you have expressed frustrations with certain videos and VODs not being readily available on the site or Twitch after their streams are over. As indicated by Jeff Bakalar on Discord, the videos that have yet to get re-uploaded are getting ID'd for copyright audio, so that's why they are currently unavailable. Staff and Fandom are working on resolving the issue, but some may require edits or revisions.

The staff have Monday and Tuesday off for Independence Day. As such, non-podcast programming will not be recorded until Wednesday. However, the good news is that Jan has raised the priority of providing a stunning conclusion to Play It Forward sooner rather than later.

Homeworld 3 developer update introduces the "flavor layer"

1 year 5 months ago

Homeworld and its sequel were real-time strategy games that stuck in the memory mainly due to the atmosphere they managed to create via dialogue, music choices and striking ship designs. I had mentally labelled coming sequel Homeworld 3 as "more of the same, but better looking", without thinking much more about it.

A new development update from developers Blackbird Interactive doesn't so much prove me wrong as go into great detail about what "better looking" really means - while also making me excited about the new "flavor layer" of ship-to-ship communication.

Final Fantasy 6 contains a scene of perfect desolation - and not every player gets to see it

1 year 5 months ago

Final Fantasy is one of the most famous video game franchises in history. The first game in the series was released so long ago (1987) that I wasn't even born at the time, and several entries that followed became classics of the role-playing genre. Final Fantasy 16, the latest installment is one of the biggest games of the year now in 2023 - this is a franchise that has shown an awe inspiring level of success and longevity.

One of the various classics in the series is Final Fantasy 6. When FF6 was released in Japan and North America on the Super Nintendo in 1994, Yoshinori Kitase (the game's director) wasn't quite in the position to travel abroad and get a sense for the game's reception outside of Japan. On international PR tours years later, however, he was surprised to find that many Westerners - in contrast to the Japanese fans - seemed to actually prefer FF6 to the much more famous Final Fantasy 7.

I realised this too, perhaps even around the same time as Kitase, when I was a teenager and browsing gaming forums in the early 2000s. I grew up adoring FF7 on the PlayStation (my first console), so the idea that the preceding game was just as good, if not better, was exciting. I wasn't able to play FF6, however, until it had an extremely delayed release in Europe in 2007, via the Game Boy Advance.

Preview: Mortal Kombat 1’s Kameos Bring a Ton of Creativity to Each Match

1 year 5 months ago

mortal kombat 1

Mortal Kombat 1 brings back some familiar, bloody warriors in a battle for gory supremacy. With last weekend's Online Stress Test, players were able to get in the ring with these old friends and see how they'd handle in this newest iteration of the long-standing series. While you'll be right at home with the usual decapitations and brutal beatings, it's the Kameo System that offers to bring something new to the table. If you like combos, you're really going to enjoy what this system has to offer.

The Stress Test gave us four characters to try out: Liu Kang, Kenshi, Sub-Zero, and Kitana. While deeply saddened by the lack of Scorpion in this trial, I didn't stay that way for long. The four characters demonstrated a great variety among their moves, offering familiar strikes and special abilities that will have long-standing fans jumping right back in. I can still fling icy blasts without a problem after all these decades, thankfully. Kenshi's puppet-like summons, Kitana's traps and fan attacks, and Liu Kang's hot hands all felt great and gave some wide variety in how they played, too.

Gundam Seed: Freedom Movie to Air in 2024

1 year 5 months ago

gundam seed freedom

A new movie set in the Cosmic Era called Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Freedom will air on January 26, 2024 in Japan. A trailer for the movie is available on the Gundam SEED official Twitter account. Sunrise first announced that it was working on a movie for the series back in 2021.

The trailer is about half a minute long, and it mostly focuses on Kira and Lacus. This will be a completely new story and continuation of the original show. There are also some quick scenes from the show, such as when Athrun gifted Tori to Kira. The text that appears on-screen can loosely translate to “Will you choose the destiny chosen for you, or the freedom to rebel?” This concept of freedom versus destiny was present throughout both SEED and SEED Destiny.

You can watch the trailer for Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Freedom here:

https://twitter.com/SEED_HDRP/status/1675421550818754560?t=RuRZky3DgXPvdb-ugWoMSQ&s=19

Again, this will not be a compilation movie and will continue the story of the Cosmic Era. Gundam SEED aired from 2002 and 2003, and its sequel SEED Destiny aired from 2004 to 2005. Both series follow the conflict between the Coordinators (genetically enhanced humans who reside in space) and Naturals (non-modified humans who live on Earth).

Mobile Suit Gundam SEED: Freedom will air in Japan on January 26, 2024. It’s unclear if it will appear in other territories.

Valve bans 40 CS:GO traders, leaving over £1.5m worth in-game items in limbo

Valve has banned around 40 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) traders linked to gambling sites, essentially wiping out over £1.5m ($2m) worth of in-game trade items.

As spotted by Dexerto (via PC Gamer), the bans come after gambling site CSGOEmpire published a spreadsheet of CS:GO traders it believed were part of a cryptocurrency money laundering scheme allegedly operating through a rival gambling site called CSGORoll.

Whilst Valve has yet to comment on whether or not the bans were connected to the details revealed in the spreadsheet, it seems as though all but one of the accounts leaked on the spreadsheet have now been banned.
