Sega Files Trademark For Sonic Frontiers, Possibly Hinting At Title For Next Sonic Game

2 years 7 months ago

It looks like we may have the next title of the latest Sonic game. In Japan, Sega trademarked the name Sonic Frontiers in both English and Japanese (courtesy of Gematsu).

Back in May this year, the company hosted a Sonic Central presentation to promote the hedgehog's 30th anniversary. Within that presentation, Sega showed a brief teaser of a new Sonic title being developed by Team Sonic, which also handled Sonic Generations and Sonic Forces.

The short video ends with a declaration of a 2022 release window, along with its announced platforms being PC, PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Update: FromSoftware Details Official Elden Ring Resolution And Performance Priority Modes

2 years 7 months ago

Update, 11/08/21:

After speculation over a Quality and Performance mode discovered via an Elden Ring purchase listing, FromSoftware has revealed the official specs and compatibility details for the upcoming RPG.

The PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions will be identical – both have a Resolution mode that prioritizes a 4K resolution with a 30 FPS lock, and a Performance mode that will prioritize 60 FPS gameplay with a dynamic resolution that adjusts while playing to ensure the 60 FPS frame rate remains stable. Both new-gen consoles will support raytracing (via patch) and HDR as well.

The Xbox Series S will support resolutions up to 1440p and a 60FPS framerate (via the Performance mode). It also supports HDR, but it won't include raytracing.

On the PlayStation 4 Pro, expect an 1800p resolution, a 30 FPS frame rate, and HDR. The standard PlayStation 4 doesn't support HDR so don't expect it there. You can expect a resolution up to 1080p with 30 FPS, though.

Xbox One X consoles will support up to 4K resolutions, HDR, and a 30 FPS framerate. Xbox One consoles will hit resolutions in Elden Ring up to 900p and a frame rate of 30FPS, but HDR will not be available.

Back 4 Blood getting solo offline mode with campaign progression in December

2 years 7 months ago

Developer Turtle Rock has released a fresh post-launch content roadmap for its well-received co-op zombie shooter Back 4 Blood, promising a host of new features into 2022, including a much-requested solo offline mode with campaign progression before this year is through.

Back 4 Blood, you might recall, came in for criticism on release when players discovered its unwavering always-online requirements, even when playing solo with AI teammates. Worse, restrictions to solo mode meant players wishing to go it alone were prevented from earning progress towards Accomplishments, earning Supply Points, and even tracking stats. Following player feedback, Turtle Rock wrote, "We have heard your frustrations about progression in solo mode and are discussing ways to address the issue".

Back 4 Blood Roadmap Reveals New Co-Op Mode, Difficulty, And Solo Offline Release Timing

2 years 7 months ago

Back 4 Blood is going to get a bunch of new features starting in December and into 2022. These include heavily-requested features like a new co-op mode, new difficulty level, and even an offline mode.

Turtle Rock has announced that this month the team will focus on various quality of life improvements and bug fixes. The biggest feature coming in December is an offline solo mode with campaign progression. This was a much-requested feature since playing Back 4 Blood requires an internet connection, even when playing solo.

Also in December, there will be new supply lines and cards as well as a new Ridden practice area, card type, and holiday seasonal event.

In 2022, there will be even more content such as a new difficulty level, new co-op mode, melee updates, and additional quality of life improvements, as well as both new player and corruption cards.

Back 4 Blood's first story expansion, Tunnels of Terror will also launch in 2022. It's part of the game's Annual Pass and introduces new playable characters and Ridden types. The pass comes with new weapons, cards, skins, and a new activity type. Expansions 2 and 3 are scheduled to launch later in 2022.

IGN's Back 4 Blood review praised the co-op horror shooter saying, "Between its stellar card augmentations, excellent campaign, and jovial tone that creeps into every facet of its design, Back 4 Blood puts some exciting new spins on a familiar genre."

Rainbow Six Siege Reveals Operation High Calibre and New Operator Thorn

2 years 7 months ago

Today Ubisoft fully revealed the new operation for its popular squad tactical shooter Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, alongside its new operator, which were teased a few days ago.

The new operator, Thorn, hails from Ireland, and she’s a defender with a nasty ace up her sleeve in the form of the Razorbloom Shell. You can deploy it in sneaky places and wait for it to wreak havoc on the unsuspecting enemy attackers.

Actually, they’ll likely be rather suspicious considering that the device makes a sound when it’s about to explode, spreading panic before dealing the damage.

We also get to take a look at the rework of the Outback map and more goodies that are going to come with the new operation, named High Calibre.

You can check out a recap video below, alongside another with the full recording of the reveal panel.

Halo Infinite Multiplayer Designer Joins Respawn For A New Star Wars Project

2 years 7 months ago

Halo Infinite senior multiplayer designer Patrick Wren has left 343 Industries to join Respawn Entertainment to work on a Star Wars game.

Wren announced on Twitter that he has joined the "Jedi team" as a senior encounter designer at Respawn on an unannounced project. Wren worked on the Star Wars universe before, having spent time working on Star Wars: First Assault in 2012-2013. The game was canceled as part of Disney's buyout of the Star Wars brand from George Lucas.

Wren moved to 343 Industries in 2013 where he worked on Halo 5: Guardians and Halo Infinite most recently. His decision to leave the studio just before Halo Infinite launches does not signal anything negative about the game. It is common for there to be turnover when projects wrap up.

Fortnite Pulls the Travis Scott Emote After Astroworld Concert Tragedy

2 years 7 months ago

Epic has removed the Travis Scott "Out West" dance emote from Fortnite following the rap star's deadly Astroworld concert in Houston, Texas, which killed 8 people.

Epic went so far as to temporarily disable the Fortnite item shop's Daily section, which rotates skins and other cosmetics and emotes on a regular basis. It's believed that Scott's emote was meant to be included in the latest update.

The official Fortnite Status Twitter account later confirmed the Daily section's removal but did not mention Scott or his emote by name.

A spokesperson for Epic Games declined to comment when emailed by IGN.

Scott's Astroworld is a music festival that took place on November 5 in Houston's NRG Park. On Friday, the first day of the event, a crowd surged toward the front of the stage where Scott was performing. At least eight people have been killed, with many more injured, according to CNN. Victims ranged in age from 14 to 27, with one victim's age currently unknown. At least 25 people were transported to the hospital. The total number of attendees reportedly neared 50,000.

Back 4 Blood DLC Roadmap Reveals All The Free And Paid Content On The Way

2 years 7 months ago

Back 4 Blood, the newly released PC and console shooter from the developers of Left 4 Dead, is getting a good amount of post-launch DLC, and the studio has now run through what's coming.

The post-launch content roadmap includes free updates and releases that are part of the paid-for annual pass. The free updates include a solo offline mode--which players had been requesting since launch--as well as a new difficulty level, another co-op mode, new cards and a new card type, and seasonal content for the holidays.

As for the paid content, the Tunnels of Terror expansion is coming in 2022. It features new story content, another activity type, and more weapons, cards, and skins. More details about Tunnels of Terror will be announced later. It's the first of three expansions included in the Annual Pass, which costs $40 or is available through the Back 4 Blood Deluxe ($90) and Ultimate ($100) editions.

Check out the Back 4 Blood DLC roadmap below to see what's coming and when.

Back 4 Blood's upcoming content roadmap

Back 4 Blood released in early October and quickly picked up more than 6 million players. The game no doubt enjoyed a surge in players thanks in part to it being included with Game Pass. While Back 4 Blood has reached 6 million players, neither Turtle Rock nor WB has announced how many copies the game sold, nor has it announced if the game has turned a profit against what it cost to develop.

Battlefield 2042 Has Reportedly Leaked, And Fans Aren't Happy With The Number Of Weapons

2 years 7 months ago

Battlefield 2042's official release is fast approaching, but one player has reportedly already been playing the full game.

Though they didn't elaborate exactly on how, Reddit user Aaronfrogger said they were able to access the full version of Battlefield 2042 after pre-loading the game on Xbox. Aaaronfrogger has gone on to make multiple posts on the Battlefield 2042 subreddit sharing all kinds of new looks at the game, ranging from glimpses of the game's menus, a new look at weapon customization, and screenshots of bot matches.

More than a few players on the game's subreddit seem displeased with the total number of weapons launching with Battlefield 2042, as revealed in a screenshot posted by Aaronfrogger. The image shows the full game will reportedly have three secondaries, four SMGs, four assault rifles, two LMGs, three DMRs, three shotguns, and three sniper rifles. That would make for a grand total of 22 weapons at launch, if the alleged screenshot is the real deal.

The Forza Horizon 5 Xbox Controller Looks Great

2 years 7 months ago

Microsoft's latest big exclusive, Forza Horizon 5, is out now with early access ahead of its public debut on November 9. The company is releasing a special-edition Xbox controller with it, and we can now report that the pad looks just as nice in real life as it does in the official images.

The controller--which Microsoft sent to GameSpot--features an eye-catching transparent yellow splatter design featuring blue and pink accents. The same colors are on the sticks and face buttons. On the back are "racing-inspired" textured grips modeled after perforated-style performance car steering wheels, as well as textured bumpers and triggers. The triggers are blue and pink. The front features a hybrid d-pad and the rest of the standard basics. The Horizon "H" is featured in the back of the controller pack.

You can get a closer look at the controller in the image gallery below. Click each image to make it full size.

Pokémon Smile gets first ever content update, nearly 18 months after launch

2 years 7 months ago

Pokémon Smile, the augmented reality smartphone app designed to encourage children to brush their teeth, has just received its first ever content update, almost 18 months after its initial launch back in June last year.

Pokémon Smile, if you're unfamiliar, tasks users with rescuing Pokémon from "cavity causing bacteria" - by brushing their actual teeth with an actual brush - all while wearing a special AR hat. Any Pokémon saved from calamity are popped in a Pokédex, and there's a photo and sticker element for those really into the whole thing.

Microsoft Flight Simulator F-35 Gets New Screenshots & Details on Carriers; Another Osaka Kansai Airport Announced

2 years 7 months ago

Today Third-party developers released new assets about upcoming aircraft and scenery add-ons for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

First of all, we hear from  IndiaFoxtEcho, which released new screenshots and details about its upcoming F-35 Lightning II. More specifically, they explained how they plan to implement carrier operations and scenery.

We have received a number of questions regarding the carrier screenshots we have recently shown – and frankly, we think they are overhyped.

Just to set the record straight, first: in our opinion, the best and most realistic carrier operations environment is by far DCS Supercarrier. Second: there are a lot of limitations at the moment in MSFS so that decent carrier ops simulations cannot be achieved.

That being said, we are developing a small fleet of HIGHLY detailed carriers as STATIC objects, just to create a “companion” package for the F-35 and mostly to highlight the differences between the F-35 variants.
At the moment we have:

America class LHA (meant to be used with the F-35B of course):
USS LHA-6 in the China Sea, not far from the Japanese Coast, close to Nagasaki, Japan.
USS LHA-7 off the coast of San Diego, USA

Gerald R. Ford class CVN (for the F-35C):
USS Gerald R. Ford CVN-78, North of NAS Key West, USA

New World Server Merges Are "On The Horizon", Amazon Says

2 years 7 months ago

Following a period of free server transfers, Amazon Game Studios says server merges will be coming to New World in the future.

The news comes via a reply from Amazon Games developer Kay in response to a topic on the game's official forums on the subject of low population servers and the need for server merges. As the user who started the topic points out, much of New World's endgame content relies on other players, whether it's for the faction vs. faction Wars, the Outpost Rush battleground, or elite farming runs. That makes it extremely challenging for players on very low population servers to actually, well, play the game.

"Hey there, world merges are on the horizon, but require additional scale testing before we are confident enough to use the tech on the live worlds," Kay writes on the game's forums. "As you can imagine given the first few rocky weeks, we are using an over abundance of caution here. Keep an eye out in the official news area for an update from our Community Managers on this in the near future."

The need for server merges is an issue of Amazon's own making. To combat long login queues during launch week, Amazon created numerous new servers and encouraged players to create characters on them to avoid queues. Amazon later offered free server transfers, so that players who may have created a character on a different server than they originally intended could find a permanent home once the game's population stabilized.
