Call of Duty: Vanguard is now available with the new Zombies map Der Anfang, which serves as a prequel to Black Ops Cold War's Dark Aether storyline. While Der Anfang is currently lacking a main story quest, you can still find plenty of intel around the map to learn more about this demonic new narrative. You just have to know where to look.

Blizzard recently changed the name of one of its most popular Overwatch heroes. McCree has been officially re-dubbed Cole Cassidy, but Overwatch has always put a lot of focus on its story and lore, so it will be using an upcoming Dark Horse comic to go into deeper detail about the character.
The Dark Horse digital comic series Overwatch: New Blood will take place across five parts, explaining the journey of Cassidy to find a new crew. It's being written by Ray Fawkes and illustrated by Irene Koh. You can check out a preview of the cover and first two pages below. As you can see, Cole is still a man of few words.
Kim 'Alarm' Kyeong-Bo, a rising star in the Overwatch League playing flex support for the Philadelphia Fusion, has died at the age of 20.
The Fusion confirmed Kyeong-Bo's passing in a tweet on the team's official account, saying the organization was "devastated and heartbroken" by the news. "Alarm was the heart and soul of the organization," the post read," and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as we mourn this tragic loss."

As the first and only paid DLC, Animal Crossing: New Horizons’s Happy Home Paradise expansion has a lot to live up to. And it does.
Early copies of Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are out in the wild, and certain social media accounts are currently posting all kinds of new footage and details related to the upcoming remakes ahead of their official November 19 release date.
As reported by VGC, leaks started popping up over the weekend when a Reddit user posted to the PokeLeaks subreddit claiming to have received a physical copy of the Nintendo Switch game early. Previously unreleased gameplay footage has since appeared on YouTube, and various Twitter accounts have tweeted out all kinds of new details from the games, including in-game music, screenshots of the game's map, previously unseen models, battle gameplay, and more. Fans are scouring over the leaks to see what previously unannounced content can be found.
If you don't want to be spoiled in regards to what kind of surprises Pokemon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl may have in store, best steer clear of Pokemon-centric circles on social media and YouTube.
Nintendo looks to be taking action against some of the leaks, as some leaked gameplay footage is no longer available on YouTube. The user who posted on PokeLeaks has since deleted their initial post as well, possibly to avoid legal action from Nintendo and The Pokemon Company.
Today Nintendo and Atlus launched another new trailer of the upcoming JRPG Shin Megami Tensei V.
The trailer introduces the story and a few of its characters, on top of showcasing the most relevant gameplay mechanics including battle and negotiation with demons.

Overwatch League pro and Philadelphia Fusion member Kim "Alarm" Kyeong-Bo has died aged 20.
Kim's passing was announced on the Philadelphia Fusion Twitter page. A cause of death has not been provided.
"We are devastated and heartbroken to hear about Kim 'Alarm' Kyeong-Bo's passing," a statement from the team reads. "Alarm was the heart and soul of our organisation, and our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends as we mourn this tragic loss. The Kim family and the Fusion ask for privacy during this incredibly difficult time”, the statement concludes."

Born in 2001, Kim became known for his skill as a brilliant flex support player. As reported by DotEsports, during his time in the role, Kim won the 2020 Overwatch Rookie of the Year award, a Role Stars award, and an MVP nomination within the same year. At the time, Fusion said that they were "unbelievable proud" of everything that he'd gone on to achieve and that he was "more than deserving" of the title of Rookie of the Year.

It's still early in Vanguard's release, but here are some recommended guns and attachments to try in your next match of multiplayer.
Note: For the recommended Optic attachment, you can choose either the Slate Reflector or the MK 3 Sunfilter to get a slight zoom without any negative impacts. Both are popular choices, but try out both to see which is best for you.
The STG44 is one of the most dominant assault rifles in Vanguard. With the plethora of weapon attachments in Vanguard, you can build the STG44 as a long-range weapon or even as a close-quarters powerhouse that's more comparable to a submachine gun. However for this recommended build we'll be focusing on attachments for mid-to-long range gunfights. These suggested attachments will give you the damage power for those long-range shots, but it also greatly reduces the recoil of this assault rifle.
The Travis Scott "Out West" dance emote in Fortnite has been removed from the battle royale game after the tragedy at the Astroworld event in Texas this weekend that left eight people dead. The emote features music from the song "Out West" and some dance moves.
A tweet from the Fortnite Status page confirms that the "Daily" section of the in-game item shop has been temporarily disabled, though it didn't mention Scott or the emote by name. The emote was apparently scheduled to be included in the daily shop to mark the end of Astroworld.

Astroworld is a music festival organized by Scott. On Friday, November 5, eight people died and hundreds more were injured amid the chaos of a crowd surge at the Houston, Texas event.
On social media, Fortnite fans are embracing the decision to remove the Travis Scott emote due to the real-world tragedy involving the rapper. Some are calling for the emote to be locked for those who already have it, according to Eurogamer. Scott played an in-game concert through Fortnite in 2020.

Horizon Forbidden West's robot animal population will make use of ideas that couldn't be achieved on the first game in the series – including different behaviors, abilities, and weaknesses.
In a new post on the PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla Games designers revealed new details about a variety of Horizon Forbidden West's machine creatures. With the new game comes new possibilities, so the team wanted to explore new areas in the game and how different types of machines would live in various ecological zones, such as bodies of water.
“During Horizon Zero Dawn’s development, we had a ton of ideas — of course not everything could make it into the first game, but now with Horizon Forbidden West we’ve been able to match some exciting ideas that previously weren’t feasible with new and interesting concepts," said principal machine designer Blake Politeski.
The machines have different behavioral patterns that Aloy can take advantage of. For example, she can use the dust that a machine kicks up while digging for resources as her own cover and sneak up on it. Additionally, the machines in Horizon Forbidden West are more mobile than before. They can jump, swim, and hold on to surfaces. As such, Aloy has new tools to adapt to these new threats such as smoke bombs and the ability to climb.

A music emote featuring Travis Scott has been removed from today's Fortnite item shop, as the US rapper faces legal action following the deaths of eight people at his Astroworld festival held in Texas over the weekend.
Epic Games pulled the Out West emote, which features a sample of licensed music from Out West by Travis Scott and Jackboys, alongside all other items in the shop's Daily section.
While fans still have to wait a bit to get an update on their favorite adoptive father-son dynamic to return in the Star Wars universe, they can at least get their hands on some adorable Grogu and Mandalorian merchandise while they wait. Created in collaboration with Lucasfilm, furniture retailer Yogibo has created a Star Wars The Mandalorian collection that fans will surely love.

UPDATE 8/11/21: Today brings a clearer sense of what to expect in this week's Assassin's Creed Valhalla update 1.4.0, which will be made available to download tomorrow. It will weigh in at 25GB on Xbox Series X/S, 20GB on Xbox One and PC, 6.75GB on PS5 and 4.55GB on PS4.
This download will include the previously teased Tombs of the Fallen, which Ubisoft describes as "puzzle-focused tombs" that will indeed, as expected, focus on the game's mysterious Odin runes.
Rockstar has released a number of screenshots for Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy on Nintendo Switch ahead of the game's release later this week.
The screenshots, which can be found on the Switch section of Rockstar's GTA Trilogy page, show off a range of different remastered scenes from across the three games included in the package.
Included within the set are a number of iconic GTA characters from way back when. While GTA III's Claude can be seen strolling through the streets of Chinatown, there's also a shot featuring Tommy Vercetti and Ken Rosenberg, and another showing CJ from GTA San Andreas' pictured mid-motorbike chase. As can be seen below, there are also a number of more scenic vistas shown off in the collection including the series' Hollywood parody Vinewood and Vice City's Ocean View Hotel.
While it perhaps shouldn't be too hard to improve upon the graphics of the original titles in the series - given that they were released almost two decades ago - there's still something to be said for the work that Rockstar has done. From the images shown, the trilogy looks as if it will shape up well on the Switch, where design choices seem to have both bolstered each games' visuals while also retaining a retro feel.

To celebrate the upcoming anniversary of the original Xbox’s release 20 years ago, Microsoft decided to see how the Gen Z generation (1997 and 2012) would react to playing the first console in the series. And just as you’d expect, the results served to make any millennial feel terribly old.
As you can see in the video below, the Gen Z subjects struggled to understand the old technology, fumbling with setting up the RGB AV Cables, not knowing how to put game discs in, and wondering where the wireless controllers were.
Eventually, they get the hang of it and even play a few rounds with their millennial gamer counterparts, who reminisce on the nostalgia of playing the system back when it was originally released.
While it may not be too drastic of a difference from the controls of today’s Xbox, the video shows how many small quality of life upgrades the system has received over the years that gamers tend to take for granted. Either way, it is a cool comparison and really helps display how far the console has come in the last few decades.
Welcome to the new Digital Foundry Direct Weekly - our regular news show where DF team members take a time-out from their current projects to talk about the latest gaming and tech news... and for once, I'm not it! There is a decent excuse, however. The truth is that examining six different console versions of Forza Horizon 5 all of which can see comparisons alter on a biome-by-biome basis resulted in a truly colossal amount of work. In terms of embargo coverage, thankfully John Linneman had us covered with his in-depth tech analysis concentrating on the Xbox Series X version, but even on the same day, I was still wondering how to contain and present the vast amount of data I'd gleaned from all systems. Hopefully it paid off! There's still more Forza to come - with more from our studio visit, a deep dive into the PC version and something a little extra on the PC side made possible by the amazing Digital Foundry Discord community.
This weekend just gone by was a big one for esports as both Riot Games and Valve held publisher-backed ‘Major’ events for their two flagship franchises, League of Legends, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.
Both saw incredible viewership numbers that smashed all previous records, with League of the Legends Worlds 2021 between Damwon Gaming and Edward Gaming hitting an incredible 4.1 million concurrent viewers, while the final of Valve’s PGL 2021 Stockholm Major between Na’Vi and G2 was watched by nearly 2.8 million — both stats according to escharts.
Notably, League of Legends Worlds’ figure actually doesn’t include Chinese viewership platforms, meaning the true number is likely much higher given that China comprises a huge percentage of the game’s enthusiast audience. Unfortunately, though, without official numbers to combine with escharts’ figures, Worlds 2021 can’t official surpass the 5.4 million concurrent viewers set during the Free Fire 2021 Singapore Worlds earlier this year.
Viewership for CS:GO’s Stockholm Major was likely given a boost for two reasons: it was the first Major in two years following Valve’s decision not to host one during COVID-19 stay-at-home measures, and secondly because the finals featured Na’Vi and its star play, s1mple, who many had considered up until last weekend the game’s best-ever player never won a major. Na’vi’s 3-0 thrashing of G2 in the final has seen him since earn that missing title.
In any case, the figures are highly impressive for a game as old as Counter-Strike: GO, which was first launched in 2011 and is itself an iteration of previous Counter-Strike games dating back to the early 2000s. It has confirmed that even in the face of competition from the likes of Riot Games’ Valorant, CS:GO remains the most popular tactical shooter for now.
Hideo Kojima’s revolutionary franchise, Metal Gear Solid, remains one of the most beloved tactical espionage (and wacky military dramatizations) of all time. Sons of Liberty and Snake Eater have served as compelling examples of definitive stealth mechanics based on weather, smell, temperature, and outfitted camouflage (among many other features) coupled with resounding narrative themes delve into philosophy and morality. Unfortunately, fans might have a hard time playing the classics, albeit for a limited time. Metal Gear Solid 2, 3, and the HD collections containing them are being temporarily removed from digital storefronts.
According to the Metal Gear portal on Konami’s official website, a long list of Metal Gear games will be inaccessible. The info reads as follows:
