Dead By Daylight: Original Story Portrait Of A Murder Chapter Announced Alongside Epic Games Store Release Window

2 years 7 months ago

Behaviour Interactive has revealed the next chapter of Dead by Daylight, and it's an original story called Portrait of a Murder.

Set in a surreal interpretation of an abandoned graveyard in the Chilean desert, Portrait of a Murder is "an artistic ode to fear and darkness." It brings two new Latin American characters to the asymmetrical multiplayer title. One of them is the game's first Mexican American character, too.

"Portrait of a Murder is Dead by Daylight going back to its roots: an original story and universe, set in mystery, dark fantasy and fear," creative director Dave Richard writes in a press release about the new chapter. "The new characters are also unique and diverse, which is part of our DNA, and representative of our player base."

Portrait of a Murder includes a new killer named The Artist, a "gifted but tormented Chilean painter" otherwise known as Carmina Mora. The DLC consists of a new survivor named Jonah Vasquez, too, who is a CIA codebreaker that sees strings of numbers everywhere he goes. The new map, The Forsaken Boneyard, is set in an abandoned surrealist graveyard in the Chilean desert.

Forza Horizon 5 PC: can Playground's masterpiece scale beyond Series X?

2 years 7 months ago

We've already established that Forza Horizon 5 scales exceptionally well over Xbox hardware old and new, but has Playground Games managed to achieve the same quality on PC? Additionally, does the PC release scale beyond the bar set by Xbox Series X, offering even better graphics? And finally, what settings should you be aiming for to replicate and then build upon the console experience - and what kind of GPU will you require?

First up, a word of explanation on Forza Horizon 5's initial set-up times and its general accessibility in tweaking settings. On first loading the game, you're met with a pause as the game compiles its shaders for your specific graphics hardware. It's a little on the time-consuming side - even on a high-end PC - but it's worth the wait and it's necessary to ensure smooth performance with little stutter. Stutter seems to be a common issue on many PC titles right now, especially those using Unreal Engine 4, and it occurs as shaders are compiled on the fly as they are needed. FH5's technique of a single compilation period on first loading really is the best way to address this.

Sonic 2022 May Be Called Sonic Frontiers

2 years 7 months ago

Sega recently filed new trademarks for a number of its franchises including one for a game called Sonic Frontiers, which may well be the name for Sonic's mysterious 2022 entry.

As reported by Gematsu, the video games publisher filed a number of new trademarks last month, including a move to secure a trademark in both Japanese and English for a new game called Sonic Frontiers - a move that has prompted speculation around its still-unnamed upcoming Sonic project.

While the publisher hasn't stated the purpose of the trademark, it is possible that it could be the name of the new Sonic Team game currently in development by the studio. The game was initially teased back in May during a short trailer that showed Sonic running through a forest-like setting and confirmed a 2022 release date.

Despite announcing the project a number of months ago, the game is still yet to receive an official title. At the time of the teaser's release, a range of trailer files and a hastily altered press release seemed to suggest that the game might take the name Sonic Rangers, though this was never confirmed by Sega or the Sonic Team at the time.

Rumours have centred around the idea that the new Sonic game could take an open world approach, something that the name Frontiers would tally with, although it must be stressed that this amounts to speculation at this point.

Lies Of P, A Pinocchio Soulslike, Gets Bloody Gameplay Trailer

2 years 7 months ago

I still haven’t gotten around to playing any games in the soulsborne franchise(s); not even the acclaimed, flashy samurai take on the formula, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. However, Hidetaka Miyazaki’s Bloodborne often sticks out to me the most. The Victorian architecture, gothic time period, and nightmare-inducing monster design are fascinating but haunting. Even a character as bubbly as Pinocchio couldn’t change Bloodborne’s moody atmosphere, and this couldn’t be any more evident in Lies of P, a soulslike with some serious visual inspirations from Bloodborne that chronicles the journey of a vicious, sword-wielding Pinocchio.

No, I’m not making this up! Just take a peek at the gameplay teaser below.

2 years 7 months ago

Developer Q-Games has announced that it has acquired the rights to its 2016 free-to-play multiplayer indie, The Tomorrow Children, and will be bringing it back sometime in the future.

The Tomorrow Children was released five years ago as a free-to-play game set in a unique world that tasked players with building villages and stocking up on supplies to stop incoming attackers. It features a flair of Soviet Union-influenced post-apocalypse dystopia to it, too. According to Q-Games, a “large number of fans worldwide [clocked] up hundreds of hours each,” but The Tomorrow Children was taken offline just one year after its launch.

Scorn Director Apologises After 'Hostile' Delay Statement

2 years 7 months ago

Ljubomir Peklar, the creative director for Scorn, has publicly apologized following a "hostile" update sent out about the game's delay.

In an update to Kickstarter backers, the creative director and EbbSoftware CEO apologized to fans and took full responsibility for the update being posted. "I quickly and haphazardly read through the draft of the update and in all my wisdom approved it," said Peklar.

"Reading through again it was clear that the hostile tone it was written in should not be how we should express ideas or plans to people that help us out. We may be tired, confused, and frustrated at our own ineptitude, but there is no reason to lash out at you. For that, I personally apologise. I will do my best for this kind of outburst not to happen again."

Having read through the original post, it's not difficult to gauge why fans were upset. When asked what the team had been doing since the game's last trailer was released in October last year, the update reads, "There is no big revelation here. We were just developing a game and that is nothing more to it than that."

Despite trying to explain a number of factors that have affected decisions taken by the team in terms of the game's delay and its lack of communication with fans, the initial update bears a similar hostile tone at several points throughout.

Mass Effect mod returns lost DLC to Legendary Edition

2 years 7 months ago

Mass Effect 1's combat-focused Pinnacle Station - the only piece of extra content left out of this year's bumper Legendary Edition - has been added back into the game by fans.

Prior to the Legendary Edition's release, BioWare let fans know that Pinnacle Station would sadly not be present as its original source code was lost, and a backup had corrupted. Without this, BioWare said, the DLC would take months of work to restore.
