Final Fantasy Creator Hironobu Sakaguchi Joins “Square” Free Company in Final Fantasy XIV

1 year 11 months ago

Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi finally rejoined Square… but not in the way you may expect.

The developer who is known as the father of the popular franchise absolutely loves Final Fantasy XIV, and has been very active in the game since he joined in late 2021.

Today he mentioned that he joined Square, the free company. For those unfamiliar, a free company is Final Fantasy XIV’s version of a guild.

Of course, he announced the event on Twitter, mentioning that “Finally, the time to belong to SQUARE has come again.”

… and this story basically writes itself.

DCS World Celebrates Top Gun: Maverick With Inevitably Spectacular Trailer

1 year 11 months ago

DCS World developer Eagle Dynamics released another trailer of its hardcore military flight simulator inspired by Top Gun: Maverick.

With the release of the movie, interest in aviation appears to have spiked among many, and game developers have certainly been working hard to jump on the bandwagon whether they have an official license or not, from Microsoft Flight Simulator to Ace Combat 7: Skies Unknown, and War Thunder.

Since Eagle Dynamics is extremely proficient at creating great trailers, it isn’t surprising that they’re celebrating the movie with a new one, and it’s even less surprising that it’s spectacular.

You can check it out below and see what I mean.

If you’re unfamiliar with DCS World, it’s a gorgeous and extremely realistic free-to-play sandbox combat flight simulator for PC that offers a giant lineup of DLC aircraft for those who want to expand the experience.

KonoSuba Season 3 and Megumin Spinoff in Development

1 year 11 months ago

Season 3 of KonoSuba has been announced, as well as an animated adaptation of the spin-off KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World. Animation studio Drive will take over from Studio Deen, who worked on the first two seasons. However, Takaomi Kanasaki will remain the director. [Thanks, ryokutya2089!]

https://twitter.com/konosubaanime/status/1530535862441680896

KonoSuba is a light novel, manga, and anime series. It follows Kazuma Sato, who wakes up in a fantasy world after his death. While it is an isekai, it has comedic elements in Kazuma's dysfunctional party. They inadvertently find themselves fighting the Devil King's generals through their daily lives. As for KonoSuba: An Explosion on This Wonderful World, the spin-off focuses on Megumin's past and how she learned her Explosion spell.

https://twitter.com/konosubaanime/status/1530534355558203394

Aside from a show and a light novel series, KonoSuba is also a video game. This may not be a surprise, considering the amount of MMORPG tropes and references that are in the source material. A sequel to KonoSuba: Labyrinth Of Hope And The Gathering Adventurers is in development. The title will come out on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.

Virtua Fighter Anime SD Blu-ray Slated for 2022 Release

1 year 11 months ago

virtua fighter anime blu-ray

Discotek Media announced that it will release Virtua Fighter on SD Blu-ray some time in 2022. It will have all 35 episodes with English subtitles. The first 24 episodes in the English dub are available, as well. Discotek will announce special features and extras on the Blu-ray at a later date via the company Twitter account.

The Virtua Fighter anime first released in 1996, though it did not have the same story as the game. Anime Works dubbed the show’s first 24 episodes. The company didn't finish dubbing the series due to poor sales. Discotek Media is the first licensing company since Virtua Fighter’s original dub to pick it up for an English audience. An SD Blu-ray contains the episodes in standard-definition resolution, rather than the high-definition format of a standard Blu-ray.

5 Letter Words with TOL in the Middle – Wordle Game Help

1 year 11 months ago

It’s time to rack your brains to try to solve yet another daily Wordle puzzle. As always, players are tasked with trying to guess a random five-letter word in order to keep their streak going and brag about it to their friends. The catch is that you have to guess it correctly within just six attempts, which is a lot more challenging than it sounds. Here’s a list of 5 letter words with TOL in the middle to help you on your Wordle journey.

5 Letter Words with TOL in the Middle

  • Atoll
  • Stole
  • Stoln

If you’ve somehow managed to figure out that today’s word contains the letters T, O, and L in the middle, then you’re in luck. There are literally only three possibilities for today’s answer, which means that if you have at least three attempts left, you can just go down the list and guarantee yourself another win for the day.

You can also take a look at your previous guesses and make use of the color-coded clues to rule out some of the incorrect letters, and that should help narrow down the possibilities as well. However, if you’re already down to your final attempt and don’t want to risk losing your streak, or if you just want a better score in today’s challenge, here’s the Wordle solution itself to help you out.

That does it for our list of 5 letter words with TOL in the middle. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.

1 year 11 months ago

It’s a new day, which means there’s yet another daily Wordle puzzle for us to solve. As always, players are tasked with guessing a completely random five-letter word with just six attempts. It’s a tricky feat, especially if you’re unlucky with your first few guesses and are unable to narrow down the possibilities. 5 Letter Words Ending in OLL

With this list, you can literally just brute force your way through the puzzle and you’ll definitely get the correct answer within six attempts, though you’re more likely to guess it right before then. If you’ve already managed to eliminate some of the options here based on your previous guesses, then you’re in very good shape for today’s puzzle.

With that said, if you’re still having trouble guessing the word, we’ve got today’s Wordle solution here for you.

Genshin Impact: How to Get & Use Starconch

1 year 11 months ago

Genshin Impact is one of the most popular free-to-play gacha games on the market right now, thanks in no small part to its large character roster. Update 2.7 is almost upon us, and it’ll introduce the new Hydro character Yelan as well. If you’re planning on pulling for Yelan when she releases, you’ll also need enough materials to ascend her to make her useful. Here’s how to get and use the Starconch in Genshin Impact.

Getting Starconch in Genshin Impact

The Starconch is one of the upgrade materials you can pick up during your travels in Teyvat. It’s a shell-like object, which means that your chances of getting it are highest whenever you explore the beaches in Genshin Impact.

They can be farmed easily by walking up and down the shores of the Liyue region, just below Dragonspine. We’ve included a screenshot of their farming locations down below, courtesy of the folks over at Genshin Impact Interactive Map.

genshin impact starconch map

Like all other resources, they’ll take a couple of days to respawn once you’ve farmed all of them. You do need a ton of Starconches if you want to get Childe and Yelan up to the max level cap, so make sure to nab them whenever you can.

Tournament Players Asked to Follow Absurd Rules and Not Mention Dr Disrespect on Twitch

1 year 11 months ago

A $100,000 tournament hosted by Dr Disrespect had Twitch streamers following some absurd rules to not mention him as he was previously banned from the platform.

Full Squad Gaming's Jake Lucky shared a recap of these Twitch community guidelines that were posted in-house by the organizer of the event, BoomTV.

"It is prohibited to use your channel to knowingly feature or advertise a suspended user," the message reads. "We understand that there may be instances where suspended users may appear on your stream due to circumstances beyond your control, such as through third-party gaming tournaments, but we expect that you make a good faith effort to remove them from your broadcast, mute them, or otherwise limit their interactions with your stream."

The message then shared a "few helpful tips to navigate this tournament if you are a Twitch streamer:"

  • Use "Hot Shot Duo Drop featuring Fortnite" to refer to the event.
  • User other Names for DrDisrespect, example the "two-time", "Blockbuster video game champion."
  • Hide images, videos and streams of DrDisrespect from your stream.
  • Mute DrDisrespect in game.
  • Be mindful of showing the tournament/bracket page on stream.

As previously mentioned, this is a recap of sorts of the Twitch community guidelines for Suspension Evasion.

Lego Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order BD-1 making its way to a galaxy very, very close

1 year 11 months ago

Among the various announcements revealed this weekend as part of Star Wars Celebration, we got news of a Lego BD-1 from Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (arguably the best thing about the game) headed our way.

The new model, which is set to release on 1st August, will have 1062 pieces, and on completion will stand at 31cm. And he won't just be a static companion to add to your collection. Rather, he will have a head that can be "tilted back, forward and sideways for maximum cuteness".

As well as the ability to pose BD-1, those who purchase their own little droid companion this summer will also get to experience other neat little inclusions, such as the back of BD-1's head being translucent to show the droid's mood and a display sign (see below). He probably won't be able to heal you like he does for Cal, however.

V Rising: How to Get Fish Bones

1 year 11 months ago

Developed and published by Stunlock Studios, V Rising is a new early access game that’s been quickly rising in popularity on Steam. This vampire-themed MMORPG allows players to engage in full loot PvP, as well as base-building elements where they can design a castle and build crafting stations to help them progress further in the game. Here’s how to get Fish Bones in V Rising.

Unlocking Fishing in V Rising

Before you can obtain Fish Bones, you’ll first need to unlock the fishing mechanic in V Rising. To do this, you simply need to progress through the game until you’ve beaten two bosses: Rufus the Foreman, and Lidia the Chaos Archer.

You’ll encounter them as part of your quest progression, so just keep playing through the game naturally and you’ll eventually be tasked with defeating them. They’re at levels 20 and 26 respectively, so they’re pretty manageable as long as you keep up with your gear upgrades.

Upon defeating them, you’ll be rewarded with the fishing pole recipe and the Devourer key item. You can then head back to your castle to place the Devourer item and craft your first fishing pole.

Getting Fish Bones in V Rising

Now, you can finally start farming your Fish Bones, and this should be a pretty simple process.

Elden Ring Director Hidetaka Miyazaki Reveals His Favorite Boss

1 year 11 months ago

Elden Ring Miyazaki Favorite Boss Radahn

Everyone has that Elden Ring boss they really enjoyed facing off against, even if they kicked your butt over and over again, including the game’s director and From Software CEO Hidetaka Miyazaki.

His favorite boss is Starscourge Radahn, according to a new Xbox Wire Japan blog post, as translated by IGN. As for why, the famed director cites Radahn’s alluring design as a character in The Lands Between as well as the festival surrounding him.

“It’s tough to decide, but I’d have to say Radahn,” Miyazaki said. “As an individual character, he’s really alluring, and I really like the Radahn Festival situation. There’s a literal sense of festivity and exuberance, but also a unique tinge of sadness and loneliness.”

He said when he first brought up the idea of Radahn and his festival, “no one on the team took it seriously,” which is extra funny considering this boss is Miyazaki’s favorite. He added that his next favorite bosses after Radahn are Godrick, the Grafted and Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy. He also said one of his favorite designs out of anything in the game is the 12-fingered Caria Manor hand spiders, because of course (they still give me the heebie-jeebies).

Nintendo Shutting Down Pokémon DP Sound Library After Just 3 Months

1 year 11 months ago

Nintendo is shutting down the Pokémon Sound Library later this week, just three months after the service was launched.

As reported by Eurogamer, the Pokémon DP Sound Library - which lets content creators download and legally use sound effects and music from Pokémon Diamond and Pearl - will cease to exist as of May 31.

The move is quite unexpected as Nintendo heavily promoted the Sound Library when it launched in February, even collaborating with Japanese performer and DJ Alan Shirahama to have a single released that solely used Pokémon music.

Though not confirmed to be related, the service was also launched shortly after Nintendo removed several videos from video game music YouTube channel GilvaSunner, prompting its owner to delete the channel completely. The Pokémon Sound Library was therefore seen as a viable, safe, and completely legal way for Nintendo fans to enjoy otherwise hard-to-find music.

No reason for the shutdown was given, with the Sound Library now simply displaying a message that states users can no longer stream or download sounds after 2am PT on May 31.

Users who have already downloaded files from the website can continue to use them as long as that use adheres to the Sound Library's terms and conditions, though it's currently unclear if these will change following the website's closure.

Crossfire: Legion early access review: a well-made RTS that's in too much of a rush

1 year 11 months ago

I feel a bit sorry for Crossfire: Legion, which appears to have suffered the worst launch imaginable for a fast-paced competitive RTS game. Since releasing last week, its all time peak of concurrent players is less than 400, and the average daily concurrents have slid down to around 100 people in only a few days. Worse, a fair chunk of this already dwindling community has been sorely narked off due to an apparent misunderstanding over how one of Legion's key features work.

Interview: The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story Director, Actors Discuss Filming

Centennial Case Shijima Story Interview actors

In the first part of our The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story interview, we spoke to the game's director and producer about the game's story and mechanics. This second part focuses on the live-action portions of the game. Cinematographer and Scenario Director Yasuhito Tachibana, as well as the two main actors, Nanami Sakuraba (Haruka/Yoshino/Iyo) and Yuta Hiraoka (Eiji/Josui), spoke about working on The Centennial Case: A Shijima Story.

Annette Polis: Several of the actors and crew working on The Centennial Case are prolific in Japan's TV and film industry. What was it like creating a live-action video game as opposed to working on a television or film set?

Yasuhito Tachibana: It was exciting to see how I could apply the experience and skills I had gained in the live-action film industry in the field of games. With the TV and film industry it is not easy to be seen around the world, and I think we gathered a group of those who wanted to work on a more global scale through the game industry.

Yuta Hiraoka: Recently, there have been games released that are fully CG and have countless endings.

Almost no CG was used for this title, and there was a real sense that the emotional aspect of the work was enhanced by the realistic conversations between the actors. Shooting multiple choice footage was a bit daunting at first, but it was very refreshing.

Fan made Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild mod makes Revali's Gale look like a gentle breeze

1 year 11 months ago

Since The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild released all those years ago, the modding community has been hard at work expanding this already expansive version of Hyrule. Now, one modder has gone further still, and added another handy little rune to Link's Sheikah Slate.

The mod in question comes from sofiaharley and is dubbed the Flying Rune, or Cyclos. It basically acts like an overpowered version of Revali's Gale, generating a wind current every time a player presses the rune button.

"Think of it like flapping your wings," explains sofiaharley. "One little flap will only bring you up a little bit, but if you keep flapping you can go as high as you like!"

Inside video game cookbooks with one of the biz's top chefs

1 year 11 months ago

Today it's all about cookbooks. More specifically: it's about cookbooks themed around games, which are all the rage these days. Do you have one? Maybe you've got the Destiny cookbook, or perhaps you've got the Fallout cookbook. The Final Fantasy 14 cookbook? Or maybe you're saving yourself for the Halo cookbook in August.

My guest today wrote all of those and she's currently writing three more. She actually finished writing the Halo cookbook a year ago, though how she pulled recipes from a world like that I don't know. What does Master Chief even eat? Can he eat? It can't be easy going to the toilet in that suit.

My guest immerses herself in these worlds to create a kind of extension of them. Check out our piece on the Destiny cookbook to see what I mean. These books include characters and lore from the games as well as something like 70 recipes to cook. They're more than just food.

Final Fantasy X's Blitzball Minigame Is Now Star Wars Canon, Weirdly

1 year 11 months ago

The Blitzball minigame from Final Fantasy 10 is now, weirdly, an official part of Star Wars canon.

The fantastical sport - which is essentially underwater hockey played by the inhabitants of Spira in Final Fantasy 10 - is mentioned in Star Wars: Brotherhood, a novel focusing on the adventures of Anakin Skywalker and Obi-Wan Kenobi during the Clone Wars.

As spotted by GamesRadar, author Mike Chen shared a series of Easter eggs from the novel on Twitter (below), revealing that he is a huge fan of Blitzball and therefore included it in the novel.

It's only a fleeting reference, but the sport is mentioned as something played in a local lake. Chen confirms this isn't a coincidence and comes straight from Final Fantasy, saying he's a big fan of hockey and therefore loved the minigame.
