Club Penguin Rewritten Taken Down for Copyright Infringement

Earlier this week, three people were arrested in London for their involvement in creating Club Penguin Rewritten, a fan-made revival of Disney’s hit MMO for PC. According to BBC, the arrests were made due to copyright offenses, as the site didn’t have permission to run an unofficial version of the game.

The suspects have since been released and an official statement has been posted to the Club Penguin fan blog:

Following a complaint under copyright law, PIPCU have seized a gaming website as part of an ongoing investigation into the site.

Three people were arrested on April 12 on suspicion of distributing materials infringing copyright and searches were carried out.

They have been released under investigation and to aid with the police investigation, they agreed to sign over the website to the control of PIPCU.

Since the early 2000s, Club Penguin has been inexplicably popular, at one point boasting over 200 million registered user accounts despite being a simple MMO about cartoon penguins and minigames. Disney ended up closing the website down in 2017 after multiple complaints of inappropriate messages, racism, and sexual innuendos.

Clones like Club Penguin Rewritten have since popped up, as former players simply copied the game’s original source code. While the investigation is still ongoing, going to the site now prompts you with a City of London Police emblem and a message that typically appears on sites seized by law enforcement: “This site has been taken over by Operation Creative, Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU).”

Cyberpunk 2077 Has Sold Over 18 Million Copies; The Witcher 3 at Over 40 Million as CD Projekt Announces Results

CD Projekt just published its report showcasing its financial results for the fiscal year 2021, related to the period between April 2021 and March 2022.

First of all, we learn that Cyberpunk 2077 has now sold through to customers over 18 million copies as of today (April 14) according to company estimates based on information collected from distributors.

On The Witcher side, the franchise has sold over 65 million copies of which over 40 million units are of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

We also take a look at the company’s plans for 2022 which include development of the Cyberpunk 2077 expansion, development of the new Witcher game in Unreal Engine 5, further support for Cyberpunk 2077, development of the recently-delated next-gen version of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, development of an unannounced project by The Molasses Flood based on one of CD Projekt’s franchises, the launch of a single-player mode for Gwent, and concept work on further unannounced games.

Looking at the company’s economics, while its revenue is still considerable and profit is still firmly in the black, both have dropped sizably compared to the fiscal year 2020.

Below you can check out all the relevant slides.

Fueled Up Is A Chaotic Four-Player Couch Co-Op Game Developed By Fireline Games

Fireline Games has announced Fueled Up, its new four-player couch co-op game that looks like Overcooked set in space.

Described as a multiplayer game that “combines salvaging spaceships with intense co-op fun,” Fueled Up will hit PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC later this year. In it, you and your crewmates must fuel, fix, and recover damaged spaceships before an evil octopus gets its tentacles on them. You can check out what that looks like in the reveal trailer below:

“Return the spaceships to safety while dealing with unexpected dangers like wormholes, asteroid showers, and space squids,” a press release reads. “Keep the engines fueled up, fix hull breaches, and extinguish fires or risk the ship blowing up. There are no boring days in the life of a spaceship recovery engineer.

“In Fueled Up, you will explore dangerous galaxies, face increasingly challenging hazards while trying to outrun the giant Space Octopus. If you succeed, you will become the best spaceship recovery engineer the universe has ever seen.”

Cyberpunk 2077 becomes real cyberpunk at its vertical limits

Early on in my playthrough of CD Projekt Red’s 7/10 NFT screensaver Cyberpunk 2077, I realised you could climb washing lines.

I’m a real sucker for verticality, so normally I’d be immediately trying to see how high I could get, but after tentatively scaling a few floors I decided to give the urgent main quest the benefit of the doubt. There would probably just be a disappointing invisible wall anyway. I climbed back down and did my best to engage with the expensive cutscenes filled with proper actors. 50 hours of mediocre Strange Days references later, I had most of the game under my belt and was ready to go searching for something more substantial - to try to find some actual cyberpunk in this retrowave moodboard. I set about pushing Cyberpunk 2077 to the vertical limit.

The Electronic Wireless Show podcast episode 182: the best eggs in games special

This week on The Electronic Wireless Show podcast there was some confusion, because I wanted us to do a part 2 best Easter eggs special, and Nate got confused, so here we are just talking about eggs in games. We also discuss real life eggs i.e. what are the best egg formats? Nate and I are both sad because we consider boiled eggs to be inherently funny but neither of us like eating them.

We also learn that Nate has dismantled his aquarium room (for a good reason) and that Matthew witness a car exploding the other night. Blimey! Plus, stick around for a Cavern Of Egg.

Overwatch 2's New Hero Sojourn Gets an Origin Story

Blizzard has revealed the origin story for Overwatch 2's new hero, Sojourn.

A new trailer (below) shared how the series' first Black female hero came to be involved with Overwatch, with her story being directly linked to Soldier: 76 (aka Jack Morrison).

"My unit of the Canadian Special Forces teamed up with Overwatch during the Omnic crisis," Sojourn says in the trailer. "Jack Morrison and I worked well together and after the war he reached out."

While it doesn't show any actual gameplay, Sojourn can be seen holding a large gun reminiscent of Soldier: 76's weapon, and the trailer description said she's equipped with cybernetic abilities.

Sojourn seemingly served with Overwatch sometime between the original and second game, saying "no matter what their mission was, mine was to bring every last one of them home."

Sojourn concludes by saying: "It was the honour of a lifetime to have served with Overwatch but you can love a thing with your whole heart and still know it's time to say goodbye. Even the best journeys end, but a new one is right around the corner."

While Overwatch 2 brings back the entire cast of characters from the first game, Sojourn is the only confirmed new character so far.

Players with access to the first PC closed beta can test her out on April 26, and though Blizzard has not confirmed a release date for the game's official launch, it has said the PvP and PvE modes will arrive separately.

Dead Space Remake: Plasma Cutter And Pulse Rifle Sounds Changed After Fan Feedback

EA announced that it was working on a Dead Space remake back in 2021, sharing details about zero loading screens and how it is learning from past mistakes. Since then, Motive Studios has shared new information through special behind-the-scenes live streams, and one happened last month that was all about the audio of the remake.

Motive showcased new gameplay to highlight some of the audio changes it’s made in the remake so far, specifically regarding the famed Plasma Cutter and Pulse Rifle weapons. During the stream, fans were already discussing their thoughts on the weapon sounds in the live chat, and it seems Motive used those suggestions and feedback from elsewhere to modify the sounds even more.

Steins;Gate Getting Makise Kurisu Bunny Figure by FREEing

The popularity of the Steins;Gate series of visual novels is still quite strong, and FREEing made another figure available for pre-order.

The figure portrays beloved heroine Makise Kurisu and if you’re familiar with the FREEing brand, you probably know what to expect, a massive 1/4 scale bunny girl figure.

She’s available for pre-order on Good Smile Company’s Japanese store and on the American one, priced respectively at 27,500 yen and $249.99.

The price shouldn’t surprise considering that she’s really tall, standing at approximately 420mm due to the large scale.

Incidentally, this is a variation on another figure released a while ago, lacking the stockings and with a white costume instead of black.

You can check out what she looks like in the gallery below.

It's intriguing to see the RPG gain such a large reach through Microsoft's subscription service - at a time when the power of being included in these has been under the spotlight. The action RPG was added to Game Pass back in September last year.

I Had to Watch This Wrex-Shepard Romance Scene, so Now You Have to Too

The Mass Effect series is known for having a pretty wide arrange of romance options, especially once you get to the third game and same-sex options become available. Even inter-species alien love is on the table across all three games. Shepard (and Ryder too in Andromeda) is able to get freaky with just about every major alien faction in the game

However, the forbidden fruit, the final frontier if you will, has always been getting it on with Krogans. For whatever reason, the powers that be in BioWare have decided for the rest of us that Krograns, like our old pal Wrex, are off-limits. Through the power of modding and the skill of a talented animator, though, we no longer have to use our imagination. We have the technology to make Wrex-Shepard a thing. Whether it’s a thing you want to see, well, be careful what you wish for.

The video was shared by a Reddit user by the name of GrowlitheDog to the /rmasseffect subreddit with the title: “If Shepard could romance Wrex (fan-made animation; mildly NSFW).” It’s unclear if this person is the original creator of the animation, or just passing along this work of art. If it’s old, apologies in advance, but the first time I’m seeing it, so now I’m making sure all of you have seen it as well. Enjoy:

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters Puts a More Aggressive Spin on the XCOM Formula (Hands-On Preview)

Over a month after my first look at Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate – Daemonhunters, I was able to finally get my hands on a demo of the game.

I was able to play a few missions including what basically amounts to a boss battle, and the initial impressions included in my previous preview are pretty much confirmed. For a basic overview of the game, I encourage you to read it because everything you’ll find there still stood against the impact of gameplay.

The game does indeed feel a lot like XCOM translated into the Warhammer 40,000 universe, but there are a few key differences.

Classic squad-based tactical RPGs like the XCOM series usually tend to encourage extremely methodical, extremely prudent gameplay.

Using Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters' Space Marine Death Star gets you told off by Andy Serkis

One of the great delights of being a purely surface-level Warhammer 40K enjoyer is that around every corner there's always some new, human-made horror to discover. The other day, for instance, I learned about the Exterminatus, a giant, Galactic Empire-inspired space gun that blows up planets when all other options - Space Marines, Grey Knights, Titans, Orbital Bombardments, et cetera - have been exhausted.

Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, a new turn-based tactics game in the vein of XCOM, coming 5th May, will let you fire it, and is actually the first 40K game to feature it as a proper mechanic.

The central premise here is that a plague called the Bloom has broken out across a series of planets, thanks to Nurgle, the Chaos "Plague Lord" whose MO is being gross on a large scale. It's your job, commanding a squad of Grey Knights - mysterious, elite Space Marines - to save as many planets as possible and ultimately stop the spread.

Hands on with Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters: promising, but XCOM cowards beware

Of the four hulking Grey Knights under my command, teleporty sword boy was undoubtedly my favourite. Once every turn he could blink across the map, moving twice as far as he can with a regular action point, plopping him right behind a pesky Cultist’s cone of suppressing fire. It was both effective and efficient, but the real fireworks began whenever I clicked teleport strike, which repositioned him while also savaging several enemies in sequence with his power sword. He was simultaneously my initiator and my (almost) one-man clean up crew, ready to be rallied by a cry from my Justicar whenever his AP tank ran empty. I almost felt sorry for the cultists.

I’ve played a curated, two hour slice of Warhammer 40K: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters, and I’m keen to play more. As speedy as my sword boy felt in those moments, though, at other times I felt compelled to move forward at a crawl. When I asked creative director Noah Decter-Jackson whether I was just being too cowardly, he hedged his bets.

Halo Infinite’s Problems Don’t Need a Battle Royale Band-Aid

Halo Infinite isn’t in a great place right now. Following the early launch of its well-received free-to-play multiplayer mode and the subsequent resounding critical reception of its single-player campaign, all the fanfare and hype has firmly subsided as the truths of what can only be described as lackluster post-launch support have been laid bare. Now, 343 Industries seems intent on a last-ditch effort to save Xbox’s flagship IP with a Battle Royale mode that feels like a rushed and poorly considered bandaid over a much bigger problem.

First, though, let’s recap the situation. The co-op campaign that was supposed to launch on May 5 with the beginning of Season 2 has been pushed back to sometime later in Season 2, and the Forge mode has also been delayed to Season 3… and goodness knows when that will be given Season 1 will have run for nearly six months by the time it ends. It could be another six months for Season 2, pushing us to the very end of the year. That would make it almost an entire year since Halo Infinite launched before we get one of the series’ flagship modes.

And that’s just the major modes that are missing that we knew about from launch. Dive into Halo Infinite’s multiplayer scene and you’ll find even more of a mess. A severe lack of game modes and maps — particularly noticeable in its Competitive mode where fewer modes and maps are deemed viable for ranked matches — and a frankly awful cosmetics and Battle Pass system has led to fans growing increasingly impatient with 343 Studios.

eFootball's 1.0.0 Release Won't Include Some Major PES Modes, Including Master League

The full version of eFootball has finally been released but it's still missing some of the PES series' major modes.

Master League, Team Play, Co-Op, Match Lobby, and Edit are all missing from the 1.0 update that promised to turn the game from what Konami called "basically a demo" into the fully-fledged version of its new soccer series.

These modes "will unfortunately not be included in v1.0.0", the game's official Twitter account tweeted (below). "We ask for your kind patience until they are ready," it said.

The missing Master League is the manager mode from PES where players start with a basic team and build it up to brilliance. It's something of a signature mode for the PES series, but it seems Konami is placing less importance on it having shifted to eFootball for th enewest iteration.

The absence of Match Lobby (which let players create an online room for playing with friends) and Co-Op also severely limits the ability to play with others that PES was known for.

Warhammer 40,000 Chaos Gate Daemonhunters: The First Hands-On Preview

I’m hardly alone in describing Warhammer 40,000: Chaos Gate - Daemonhunters as ‘XCOM with Space Marines.’ But now that I've gotten my hands on it, it's much clearer how that actually changes up the tactical formula. Enemy Unknown can feel like a horror game sometimes, as you're hunted by Chrysalids and Mutons through eerie crash sites and warehouses. But in Chaos Gate, there's no mistaking it: the Daemons are the prey, and you are the hunters.

That's not to say deploying into literal Hell is completely without tension. It's definitely possible to get into some bad situations if you aren't careful. But when you send your point man to kick down the doors of a massive space cathedral and send various creepy cultists scattering for cover, it's a totally different vibe from the very methodical and potentially lethal room-clearing routines I'd run in XCOM. The camera gets right down in there and punctuates each breach with enough bravado to get the message across: We're not trapped in here with these heretics. They're trapped in here with us.

And it's not empty posturing, either. Using that kind of in-your-face momentum worked out pretty well for me in a lot of situations where I found myself outnumbered. They say fortune favors the bold, and it seems like the Emperor does, too. Especially if you kit out one or two of your squad in terminator armor, which limits mobility but boosts defense, they're more than tanky enough to shrug off a few hits and let you take apart an enemy position quickly. Using grenades and the environment wisely can crush the opposition even faster, so the battles may be fast-paced, but they still reward thinking and observation skills.

All Classes in Lost Ark, Ranked

But, of course, you’re here to find out which ones stand above the rest, so here are all the classes in Lost Ark ranked from worst to best.

We’ll be ranking the classes based on their overall utility in PvE and PvP, with a slight emphasis on PvE since that makes up the bulk of the content in Lost Ark. Another thing to note is that this list includes all classes that have been released as of April 2022.
