Chernobylite developers "heartbroken" at events in Ukraine

Chernobylite developer The Farm 51 is "heartbroken" at current events in Ukraine.

Speaking to PressPlayNews, studio creative director Wojciech Pazdur discussed the war, as well as the future of the game.

"This war, like any other, is an unnecessary violence which takes lives of innocent people and forces millions to flee and abandon their homes while those who stayed have to fight for their lives during the humanitarian crisis," he said.

For two years running now, this series of TVs has topped IGN's lists of best TV for gaming and best high-end TV. And judging by early reviews of the LG C2, that’s not likely to change this year. This is absolutely going to be one of the best TVs for PS5 and Xbox Series X, so here's how to can save big on the new model.

Editor's Note: This article is brought to you in association with LG.

The new C2 model is a jaw-dropping example of everything you could want from a TV. With a brilliant OLED display and full HDR vibrant colours. There's also “pixel-level dimming,” which allows for absolute blacks — as in, the LEDs in the display can turn off entirely so no light seeps out anywhere. Skyrim's skeletons are basically grumpy cavemen

One scientist has answered the question surely on everyone's minds since The Elder Scrolls 5 released over a decade ago – just what would Skyrim's skeletons look like if they were alive today? Well, it turns out, they would look like disgruntled cavemen.

Thanks to facial reconstruction technology, Twitter user Sulkalmakh from the Ancestral Whispers cranial reconstruction research team brought Skyrim's bony boys to life, as it were.

In a playful tweet from April Fool's Day (via IGN), the user shared their "Facial reconstruction of an ancient Atmoran from Saarthal, dated to the late Merethic Era". This may well have gone over the heads of many, but eagle-eyed fans were soon quick to realise that the face staring back at them on the screen was indeed that of a (now fully fleshed) Skyrim Skeleton.

Bungie commits to remote work for "most current and future" jobs

Destiny developer Bungie has committed to a new "digital-first" hiring policy, and said that "most current and future roles will be fully remote eligible".

The move contrasts with recent pushes from companies such as Call of Duty maker Activision and League of Legends studio Riot Games, who seem keener to get staff back in offices - leading to Covid safety concerns.

Bungie has said it will allow remote work from a number of US states (likely due to local tax laws - thanks, Kotaku) including the developer's home of Washington, plus others including California, Florida and Texas.

Halo Infinite battle royale rumours swirl as Certain Affinity confirms "deepening" 343 relationship

Halo support studio Certain Affinity has said it is "deepening" its relationship with the series' main developer 343 Industries, and is now at work on "evolving" Halo Infinite further.

Certain Affinity has assisted with Halo development as far back as Halo 2, where it worked on extra maps for that game. Subsequently, it has served as a co-developer for 343 on Halo Waypoint, Reach, Halo 4 and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

Its continued work on the series with Halo Infinite comes as little surprise, then, but the language it has used - and an earlier report on what it might be up to - point to a major addition to Infinite coming from Certain Affinity in the future.

You Can Skip the Ladder Part in Metal Gear Solid 3

A Metal Gear Solid 3 player has figured out how to skip the game's infamously long ladder climb.

Though it came out 18 years ago in 2004, YouTube user Apel has finally figured out a way to skip MGS3's two minute climb altogether, as spotted by Polygon.

They showed off the tactic in a video but it essentially involves positioning protagonist Snake next to the ladder before pressing a few particular buttons in the menu. When the player comes back to the game, Snake enters a T-Pose and floats for a moment before being fired like a rocket to the very top.

While this may seem a bit redundant given the game is nearly two decades old, speedrunners are still chipping away at Metal Gear Solid 3 to achieve quicker and quicker times. In fact, the top five speedruns were all set in the last year, showing that new tactics like these are still very valuable to the community.

The best time of one hour, 16 minutes and ten seconds is only ten seconds ahead of the second best time, meaning speedrunners will likely be racing to master this new tactic to try and retain or claim or the crown.

Elsewhere in the speedrunning community, Elden Ring player Distortion2 has shaved his time down to under seven minutes, while Tunic has been beaten in just 24 minutes.

10 years later, Fez still doesn't need a sequel - it never did

I don't need to tell you Fez is a great game because you know that. Everyone told you that in 2012. We named it Game of the Year, then called a Game of the Decade seven years later. It's one of the indie icons, a mandatory mention whenever you're talking about them.

But it's been 10 years since it was released, which is a long time, and somehow within all of that, I had never played it. Until now, that is, and it's an interesting place to look back on the game from. There's no noise surrounding it now, no drama. All that hullabaloo, it's gone. Now, really, there is only the game.

And what a game. I'm not here to give you a controversial hot-take on how time has ravaged Fez and revealed it to be rubbish, because it hasn't. In fact, I'm partly here to tell you the opposite and how time doesn't seem to have touched Fez at all. It's remarkable how fresh it still feels. It could have been released this year.

No Man's Sky's new Outlaws update lets you become a fearsome space pirate

If you've been itching to turn to the darker side in No Man's Sky, developer Hello Games' exploratory space sim has you covered in its new Outlaws update, giving players the chance to trade their life of relatively wholesome interplanetary meandering and base building for one of rather more criminal pursuits as they take on the role of fearsome space pirates.

Just as February's Sentinels update sought to improve ground combat, Outlaws aims to do the same for space combat. That means better ship handling, shields for enemy starships, plus visual enhancements and various specialist secondary effects for weapons. The latter for instance, might give players the ability to slow enemy engines or disable their shield systems. Additionally, combat can now move down into a planet's atmosphere and AI pirates can even attack your settlements - and if all that sounds a little intimidating, Hello Games has introduced a new Auto-Follow mode to improve combat accessibility.

Elsewhere, there's a brand-new class of ship in the form of the sleek, solar-powered, and rather unimaginatively named Solar Starship (plus the maximum number of ships players can store has now been increased to nine), and it's now possible to create squadrons, recruiting and upgrading AI wingmen, each with their own unique abilities, for assistance in battle. Oh, and all ships now have high-capacity (and expandable) cargo inventories for specialist goods.

Final Fantasy XIV's Huge Newfound Adventure Patch Is Live Now

Final Fantasy XIV's Patch 6.1, dubbed Newfound Adventure, is out now and ready for players to explore a wealth of new content. The patch adds a bunch of new main storyline quests, a new alliance raid, a PVP mode named Crystalline Conflict, and more new content, as well as a bunch of quality of life updates and bug fixes.

With the new patch installed, players will be able to continue the story post-Endwalker in the Newfound Adventure quest, with 10 new main scenario quests added in total. A new alliance raid series called Myths of the Realm has also been added, seeing players investigating the mysteries of the Twelve. Check here for a more in-depth look at the story content being added in this patch and future 6.1X updates.

One of the major new features added in the 6.1 update is the new Crystalline Conflict PVP mode, which sees players engaging in tactical arena combat in teams of up to five players per side. Players will have to fight to maintain control of the Tactical Crystal, guiding it through multiple checkpoints to the team's goal point. Crystalline Conflict unlocks upon completing the level 30 quest A Pup No Longer for your Grand Company.

Similar to the Feast, Crystalline Conflict has both casual modes and a ranked mode, with six ranked tiers including Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and Crystal. Each tier except Crystal is further divided into a number of "risers" for players to progress through. Unlike the Feast, players won't be demoted to a lower tier during the season, and instead will only lose progress within that tier.

Final Fantasy XIV Director Naoki Yoshida’s Name Officially Given to an Asteroid Sparking Buzz Among Fans

Final Fantasy XIV Director & Producer Naoki Yoshida is certainly one of the most popular developers in the world and a fan brought that admiration to the next level.

A Reddit user named Rukongai announced that they had the chain to name an asteroid, so they decided to christen it “Yoshidanaoki” to pay homage to the developer.

The claim is proven by the fact that the asteroid, which was discovered during a survey in 2006, appears in NASA’s database with its brand new name and a small blurb explaining who Naoki Yoshida is.

This caused considerable buzz especially among Japanese fans, so much that today the fact was reported on Japanese national TV during the morning news showcasing social media trends from the day before, as shown before In a recording from TBS by Twitter user 中途半端.

The video reports Yoshida-san’s reaction, who responded with his usual humor, mentioning that he hopes the asteroid named after him won’t enter a collision orbit with Earth, as he would not want to become the enemy of all living things on the planet.

Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes Gets New Screenshots, Art, & Gameplay & Story Details

Today Koei Tecmo revealed new images and gameplay details of its upcoming Musou-like action JRPG Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes.

Besides taking a look at well-known characters whom we already saw in today’s trailer, we hear more about the story.

The story starts in the Imperial Year 1179, when a young mercenary clashes against the “Ashen Demon” of Jeralt’s Mercenaries. The young mercenary is defeated by the overwhelming strength of the mercenary and is ready to die.

Yet, suddenly, a voice echoes from somewhere and a mysterious power saves the young mercenary. The voice belongs to a mysterious being called “Larva.”

The young mercenary decides to travel from place to place training to one day defeat the Ashen Demon. During his travels, they meet a group of students from a military academy attacked by bandits. This chance encounter that should have never happened will shake up the history of Fódlan.

The gameplay loop is divided into three parts. The first part lets you freely visit the outpost, interact with friends, and upgrade your army. You can train the hero and allies, deepen ties, and enjoy conversations as part of activities like helping with certain tasks or eating together.

The second part is a strategic part that prompts you to pursue the targets of each episode and play on the map. You can also meet merchants, find extra quests or survey points where you can earn rewards.

The third part is the battles, which are fought in real-time in Musou-style. You have partners that can help you in battle and fight powerful magical beasts.

FFXIV: Newfound Adventure Is at Its Best When the Stakes are Low

The beautiful thing about Final Fantasy XIV’s content roadmap and story structure is that whenever new quests get added, the game takes the time to welcome you back into the fold. We’re only in the first paragraph and I’m already getting sappy here, but returning to FFXIV after an extended period of time does feel like home. That feeling is even more prevalent now, especially since the end of the Endwalker expansion, which saw the Scions going their separate ways and looking for their own adventures.

Patch 6.1, titled Newfound Adventure, starts up the main story again with a scene of the Warrior of Light paying Tataru a visit back in the Rising Stones. The energy here is largely laidback and relaxed, with the pair reminiscing about their other friends, and Tataru prattles on about her sewing while the Warrior of Light eventually drifts off and starts napping. This goes on for about five minutes, which is about an eternity in MMO World.

If this scene sounds slow and extremely inconsequential and unimportant and irrelevant to, well, anything, that’s because it is. In any other game, this would be a huge knock against it, but in Final Fantasy XIV, it completely works.

Having spent nearly eight years with these characters and watching them put a stop to world-ending threat after world-ending threat in each expansion, FFXIV has completely earned its quiet moments. The Scions came back from space at the end of Endwalker after putting a stop to another devastating world-ending plan, and they’ve quite literally achieved world peace in Eorzea. If the game wants to put me through a five-minute cutscene of nothing but Tataru talking about fashion and money, they’ve earned the right to do so dammit.

American Truck Simulator Sets Course for Montana in New Expansion

If you are a fan of the trucking games from SCS Software, then you would be familiar with both Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator. Aside from delivering pretty awesome sim experiences, the developers are also hard at work at creating new content, at least for the latter. In a new update, SCS Software has shared that it will be revisiting history with a new Montana expansion for American Truck Simulator.

That history comes from the studio’s work on another series called 18 Wheels of Steel. One of the locations that appeared in the series was the state of Montana, and it is about time to bring it back.

“With this sort of history, we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to revisit some of these iconic areas in our upcoming DLC,” SCS shared.

Weird West Kicks Off New Community Event Alongside Roadmap Reveal

Devolver Digital is not a stranger to interesting ideas and premises, and with WolfEye Studios, the pair delivered an immersive sim that flipped the old Wild West on its head with a healthy dash of strangeness in Weird West. Now, players will have more to look forward to with a new community event happening, together with a look at the upcoming roadmap for Weird West.

As the trailer reveals, the first of many community events to come is The Plague, which will see the undead rise up in more numbers than before. Players will have to do whatever it takes to quell the horde, and that means plenty of bullets and blood before everything is settled.

The official description for the event reads:

Reports are rolling in from across the Weird West of a plague of undead rising from the grave! Worse, a terrible sickness seems to follow in their wake. Stay sharp, travelers.

The undead is not all that is coming to Weird West. The roadmap also shows that a new content pack and something called Nimpossible Mode are on their way. This will be followed by the Caged Ones event, and the arrival of mods. Whether that means actual mods for the game or in-game mods for equipment remains to be seen.

Either way, it seems like players will have more reason to spend more time in Weird West, if not for the excellent setting and storytelling.

Sony's Ghost of Tsushima movie adaptation names its writer

Last March, John Wick director Chad Stahelski announced he was working on a movie adaptation of PlayStation samurai adventure Ghost of Tsushima, and now, a little over a year later, a writer for the project has been named.

As reported by Deadline, the new Ghost of Tsushima film adaptation will be penned by Takashi Doscher, who previously wrote and directed romantic sci-fi romance, Only, alongside ESPN documentary A Fighting Chance.

Deadline says the adaptation is still in "early development" and, as such, details remain scarce. However, the publication previously confirmed the project - a collaboration between Sony Pictures and PlayStation Productions - will, perhaps unsurprisingly, follow the adventures of game protagonist Jin Sakai. Will there be Hot Spring butt? Only time will tell.

How To Farm Studs In Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga

Studs are the main form of currency in Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. With everything costing thousands upon thousands of studs, you'll run through them pretty fast. This guide will teach you how to properly farm studs so you can keep your pockets deep and the rewards unlockable. Here are the best ways to farm studs, as well as what sort of rewards you can expect to unlock with them.

Upgrades needed to farm studs

To farm studs efficiently, you'll need to do a few things. The first thing you'll need to have is the Attract Studs ability unlocked. It doesn't matter if you have it upgraded or not; as long as you have the ability, you'll be fine. It's important to mention that you can still farm without the upgrade, but having it will make it significantly easier for you to gain studs in a hurry.

With this upgrade, you’ll no longer need to chase studs.

Where to Farm studs

Next, you'll need to have Coruscant Federal District unlocked. But the catch is you'll also need to have Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith unlocked because you'll need to use the Walkers that the Clone Troopers have scattered around the district.

Norco Review – Soul Food

Reviewed on: PC
Publisher: Raw Fury
Developer: Geography of Robots
Release:
Rating: Mature

Point-and-click games cemented the vast potential of interactive narrative at the turn of the century, employing innovative environmental/dialogue puzzles with evocative pixel art and chiptune music. Nowadays, we lose ourselves in impossibly large sandboxes with equally extensive choice-driven plotlines. It’s fitting, then, that Norco feels like a precious relic from the Sierra-led Golden Age of digital adventures. Geography of Robots’ debut title ponders unchecked capitalism and classism at the heart of America’s oft-neglected Deep South. Moreover, Norco’s retrofuturistic and net.art aesthetic is propped up by some of the best surrealist storytelling I’ve witnessed since Kentucky Route Zero.

Click here to watch embedded media

Norco reimagines the bayou as a series of interconnected nodes on a map. I bounced around numerous venues, parsing historical manuscripts in rundown shops, buying dog food at the convenience store, fetching hallucinogens from grimy bathroom stalls, and speaking with the citizens. Each vignette pops with psychedelic hues – rivers sparkle beneath the tree line, half-light casts long shadows across grassy knolls, watercolor-clouds form above the empty freeway. Norco’s writing might indicate that the city is distorted and diseased, but it’s gorgeous to behold, nonetheless.
