Overwatch 2: Sojourn Gameplay, Weapon, and Abilities Revealed

Blizzard has shown gameplay and broken down the abilities of Overwatch 2's new hero, Sojourn.

Revealed in a blog post on the Overwatch website, Sojourn's arsenal is headlined by a massive railgun that makes her an ideal mid-range character.

It fires rapid projectiles that generate energy upon hitting enemies, which is then used to power a much stronger blast that acts as Sojourn's secondary. The railgun, though a fairly simple weapon, therefore scales with player skill as accuracy directly affects secondary damage.

"We wanted to make a mid-range hero that rewards accuracy, but still make it fun for varying levels of skill and gameplay," said senior hero designer Josh Noh.

Another ability is the Disruptor Shot, an AOE attack that ensnares enemies, eats away their health, and was designed in tandem with the secondary attack as it allows an easier shot.

Sojourn also has a lot of mobility thanks to a rocket-powered slide that can be cancelled into a high jump to quickly reposition her. "We wanted to add a vertical element to her kit to enable her to quickly access high-ground vantage points and help solidify her role as a mobile damage hero," Noh said.

Finally, her Ultimate ability is Overclock, which automatically charges the railgun's energy for a short period of time and allows her shots to pierce multiple enemies if the player is accurate enough.

The Elden Ring Community Has a New Demigod, & It’s a Naked Man Who’ll Fight Malenia for You

Elden Ring is a game about traveling and exploring the Lands Between, as you defeat demigods along the way to collect shards of the Elden Ring itself to become the new Elden Lord. You might find your journey gets cut abruptly short towards the end, though, if you choose to take on some of the game’s optional bosses.

One boss in particular has become notorious for being the most divisive boss encounter among the player base. Malenia, Blade of Miquella is easily up there as one of the hardest boss fights FromSoftware has ever created because of her devastating lifesteal and Scarlet Rot-inflicting moves. She’s one of the few fights in the game where having summons can actually hurt you, and yet this community has recently seen the emergence of a jolly cooperator whose sole purpose is to help others defeat her.

Klein Tsuboi plays as a naked man with only a jar on his head and two katanas, one in each hand. His character is named “Let me solo her,” which serves as a request for the host and any other summons in the session to stay in the sidelines where it’s safe while he takes on Malenia alone. In case it’s not clear how impressive this is, let me remind you that while Malenia is tough enough on her own, it’s even more of a challenge when you’re a summon with less health and FP, and fewer healing items.

Hardspace: Shipbreaker Is Leaving Early Access Soon

Zero-G sandbox game Hardspace: Shipbreaker is about to head out of early access.

A new announcement has revealed that the unique FPS is getting its full official launch on May 24, 2022 – two years after it first became available on Steam Early Access.

“Dust off your mag-gloves and charge your split-saw, we’ve got some great news!” reads the announcement. “The date for Hardspace: Shipbreaker’s 1.0 Update, and its full release from Early Access, is set. Your first shift in the full version will begin on May 24, 2022.”

Hardspace: Shipbreaker is a unique spin on the FPS genre as you’re given cutting-edge salvaging tech and tasked with carving up derelict spaceships to recover valuable materials - and it's all in the name of paying off a billion-credit debt to a faceless corporation.

Playing a blue-collar space worker for the Lync Corporation, there’s no escaping your debt as the company literally owns your DNA – re-assembling you after any unfortunate workplace accidents to ensure you carry on working.

The 1.0 launch update brings with it a number of additions and improvements:

Save £70 on this 240Hz Alienware gaming monitor from Amazon

Although Alienware are known mostly for their high-spec gaming laptops and desktops, this Dell brand also has a range of excellent gaming monitors. And currently, this 24.5" display is currently available for just £249 from Amazon right now, a £70 saving on the usual RRP.

It's geared mainly towards those who play fast-paced and esports games. It has a full HD resolution, which is nothing to worry about thanks to the IPS panel providing great viewing angles. But the key offering here is the 240Hz refresh rate.

Paired with a 1ms response time, this is the ideal display for games like Doom Eternal, Rocket League, Call of Duty and Apex Legends, so you'll be able to see more of the action, so long as your PS5, Xbox Series X|S or PC can keep up. This fast refresh rate means it has not only AMD FreeSync support, but also Nvidia's G-Sync, so you can be sure to experience as little screen tearing as possible.

What's the deal with all the wacky golf games?

Would you believe Good Friday isn't a bank holiday in Ireland? I didn't, until I found myself living it. I'm here driving the RPS bus alone, nobody to stop me as I careen down the motorway screaming and trying to slam on the brakes. But I can't, because a golf ball has rolled under the pedal!

You ride this bus long enough, you see games move in cycles similar to fashion designers, or those big ferris wheels at fairgrounds. Things come round, they peak, they go round again. Often a few different people independently notice an empty niche and start working on something to fill it, so you get a bunch of games with similar themes or styles coming out within months of each other. So I ask: why and/or how have a bunch of people identified golf as a gap in the market?

Hello! Welcome back to our regular feature where we write a little bit about some of the games we've found ourselves playing over the last few days. This time: boats, a birthday, and a hedgehog.

If you fancy catching up on some of the older editions of What We've Been Playing, here's our archive.

Thunderful had a bunch of games at the WASD game show in London last week, but the one that really caught my eye was Swordship.

Chinatown Detective Agency review - a striking, neon-drenched setting, but mechanics come up short

I've always thought I'd be a fabulous detective. I suspect it's a side effect of the endless true crime stuff I watch - but I reckon I've an eye for the details, you know. A good sixth sense. The ability to spot that small, inconsequential something that turns out to be oh-so consequential after all.

It is, of course, complete bollocks. Much like playing Back 4 Blood won't prep you for a real-world zombie apocalypse, bingeing true crime documentaries hasn't taught me much that I can apply to real-life bar one exception (shout "Fire!" and not "Help!" if you're at risk as that's more likely to attract assistance; you're welcome), and that became abundantly clear when I stepped into Singapore's shadowy underbelly and into the shoes of Amira Darma, a freshly-minted private investigator who, as it so often goes, ends up embroiled in something she hadn't quite been expecting.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, the titular Chinatown Detective Agency does exactly what it says on the tin, with a peri-futuristic glimpse of a neon-soaked Singapore serving as the striking backdrop to a sea of crooked business people and shady politicians. An ex-cop, Amira's funnelled some early cases from collegial ex-colleague, but from there she builds her own client roster of the damned and the desperate and everything in-between.

Glitchhikers: The Spaces Between offers ‘a space to reflect on the state of the world and on yourself’

Night has enveloped the highway and your only companion is the music from the radio. A hiker stands on the road’s edge and, after passing them by, they appear in your car. Did you stop to pick them up? Did they teleport into your car? Does it matter? They tell you a story about their childhood - a tale of stars and pretending to be a god - only to, at the end, say they were never a child. You blink and they’re gone. All that is left is you and the road curving away into the dark - your journey will end when you need it to.

Glitchhikers: The Spaces Between is a follow up to developer Silverstring Media’s 2014 title Glitchhikers: First Drive, and it captures the experience of the late night solitary journey, where reality seems to shift into the otherworldly. Expanding on the late night car journey from the original game, The Spaces Between takes you to an airport, on a wander through a park and a train. Throughout your travels, you’ll encounter hikers who engage you in conversations covering subjects spanning personal stories to discussions about fate and whether our lives are predetermined.

Last month, I spoke with Lucas Johnson, founder of Silverstring Media and studio director, and Claris Cyarron, co-founder and creative director, about the development of The Spaces Between.

Hideo Kojima Clarifies that Kojima Productions Will Remain an Independent Studio

Today Kojima Productions’ big boss Hideo Kojima put the speculation about a possible acquisition by Sony to rest.

Said speculation was sparked by the appearance of a PlayStation Studios banner that included Kojima Productions’ IP Death Stranding, which of curse ignited the usual rumor mill.

Things came to a head when Hideo Kojima himself tweeted the banner about an hour ago, sending the Twitterverse into overdrive.

The developer then followed up by mentioning that his previous tweet may have possibly misled some, and pledging that Kojima Production has been and will continue to be an independent development studio, as seen below.

You may ask yourself why Death Stranding appears in PlayStation Studios’ banner, and the solution is pretty simple. PlayStation Studios published the game, pretty much like Microsoft Flight Simulator is published by Xbox, but it’s developed by the independent Asobo Studios.

Hideo Kojima Says Kojima Productions Will Remain Independent After Tweeting PlayStation Studios Banner

Around 1 pm in the afternoon Japan time, Kojima posted a picture of the PlayStation Studios banner with games from all of Sony's first-party studios and also Death Stranding. This cryptic tweet immediately kicked off speculation that Kojima Productions officially joined PlayStation Studios.

Kojima followed up 10 minutes later by clarifying Kojima Productions is still an independent company.

Hot Drop: Who Is Pretending To Be Octane's Father In Apex Legends?

Hot Drop is GameSpot's weekly Apex Legends column, in which Jordan Ramée takes a closer look at Respawn's battle royale to provide additional insight into the game's evolution, as well as dive deeper into its episodic storytelling and characters.

It's been an eventful couple of weeks for Apex Legends. As we near the end of Season 12's Quest, The Perfect Son, Lifeline and Octane stumbled upon a startling realization: Octane's dad, Eduardo "Duardo" Silva, isn't actually his dad. The real Eduardo Silva has been dead for a while, meaning the big bad of Apex Legends has been an imposter. So the big question is, of course, who the hell is Duardo?

We don't know all that much about Eduardo or Duardo, but we have a rough timeline of the two men's lives. Eduardo is the childhood friend of Darian Che--Lifeline's dad--and the two played in Pecks Labs as kids. A genius, Eduardo would grow up to become the CEO of a galaxy-wide pharmaceuticals company called Silva Pharmaceuticals.

Eduardo would go on to create Stim, the powerful adrenaline drug used by Titan Pilots and, eventually, his son, Octavio "Octane" Silva. Eduardo wasn't a great dad or husband, marrying four times and neglecting Octavio for the entirety of his life. I assume that somewhere here in Apex Legends' timeline is the point where Eduardo dies and Duardo takes his place. Because it's after this that Octane begins to notice some slight differences in his father's behavior, including a willingness to orchestrate a terrorist attack during Season 7's Quest, Family Portrait.

Genshin Impact - The Chasm World Quest Dimming Mushroom's Call For Help Guide

Welcome to the slightly creepy mushroom World Quest in Genshin Impact's newest area, The Chasm. It's official title is Dimming Mushroom's Call For Help.

How To Unlock

This quest will automatically pop up in your quest list when you reach the "Mushroom area," officially known as the Glowing Narrows. Once you pass by a tall majestic mushroom, a mysterious voice will call out to you. Follow the location highlighted on your map, and you'll find yourself talking to a huge Mushroom "from another land" called Xamaran.

He will ask you to give him some energy, which you can do by using your Lumenstone Adjuvant. After he thanks you, he'll send you on a quest to give his fellow brethren some energy. Go to five marked locations on your map and recharge them with your Adjuvant. It's good to have a fairly leveled-up Adjuvant here--you need a minimum of Level 4--and there are plenty of nearby recharge resources nearby.

Mushroom Xamaran's location

Finding Source Of Foul Energy

The Mushroom King's requests aren't over. He'll then give a Blessings of Wisdom item to you and then task you with following the water flow and finding the "source of foul energy." Unlike the typical quest, this time, the location isn't marked on your map--so the below image shows where it is if you're struggling to find the source.

Action-RPG Stray Blade Gets a New PS5, Xbox Series X|S, & PC Combat Trailer

Earlier today, developer Point Blank Games and publisher 505 Games dropped a new trailer for their upcoming action-RPG, Stray Blade. The new video takes a deep dive into the combat system players can expect to see when it launches later this year on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Feel free to take a gander at the new footage down below:

Originally announced at Gamescom last year, Stray Blade is a third-person fantasy RPG that sees you going head-to-head with a multitude of pesky knights and nasty monsters using your choice of either dual-wielding, two-handed, or classic sword and shield.

In addition, you’ll also befriend a wee critter called Boji who’ll help guide you on your adventure through a world dubbed Acrea — a land torn asunder by civil war.

Finally, we also get to see how your new companion can actually revive you when you inevitably bite the dust in the game. That sure would’ve been handy in Elden Ring, but I digress.

All Chrono Cross Endings And How To Unlock Them

There are nearly a dozen Chrono Cross endings you can unlock, ranging from the sinister, sentimental, and nearly everything in between. You can only access a couple of them your first time through, and getting the others takes a fair bit of planning. If you’re playing the Radical Dreamers edition, though, you’ll need to get them all if you want the platinum trophy.

How many endings does Chrono Cross have?

Chrono Cross has at least 11 endings, though you can only access most of them during New Game+. After you’ve cleared the game once, you get the option to battle the Time Devourer, the final boss, whenever you want, and winning the battle at certain points in the story triggers new, non-canonical endings--one of which is technically just a joke ending where you chat with NPC versions of the game’s developers.

How to get Chrono Cross’ true ending

The true ending takes a bit of work and involves the Chrono Cross item itself. You’ll need to use it in the battle against the Time Devourer, but only after casting an Element of each type in a certain pattern. It’s a good idea to equip low-level elements to shorten the casting time and avoid any interruptions. The order you need to follow is:

  • Yellow
  • Red
  • Green
  • Blue
  • Black
  • White

Use the Chrono Cross after that to instantly defeat the Time Devourer. If you get interrupted, you’ll have to start the process over, though.

This ending sees Serge return to the point before he arrived in Another World, but without his memories, and ends with Kid vowing she’ll find him no matter what.

Call Of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Is Getting Jungle Map And New Weapons

Year 2 content continues for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, as Treyarch's April 14 blog post details a new multiplayer map, two weapons, Zombies updates, and more on the way.

Black Ops Cold War's Year 2 content kicked off back in March with the new Vargo 52 assault rifle and the remastered WMD map being added to the game. Now, Treyarch has officially announced that Jungle from 2010's Call of Duty: Black Ops will be the next map arriving for Year 2 of Black Ops Cold War.

In addition to Jungle, players can expect two new weapons to become available. One ranged weapon and one melee weapon will be added for use in multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. The announcement also included that new operator skins, weapon blueprints, finishing moves, and cosmetics will be arriving in a new series of store bundles. Most of the details are vague, but one of the cosmetic bundles will include a Zombies-themed bundle.

Release dates weren't provided for any of the upcoming Year 2 content, but Treyarch says Jungle and the ranged weapon will be added in the coming weeks, while the new melee weapon is set to arrive in the "not-too-distant future."

The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle - Release Date, New Story, And Everything We Know

Bethesda and ZeniMax Online's MMORPG, The Elder Scrolls Online, continues to grow and is showing no signs of stopping, having recently reached a milestone of more than 20 million players. The next chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online is coming this summer, and it's set to take players to a never-before-seen part of Tamriel and put the spotlight on one of the Elder Scrolls franchise's less-explored races, the Bretons. It's called High Isle, and it's part of this year's Elder Scrolls Online year long adventure, Legacy of the Bretons. Here's what you need to know about the next big Elder Scrolls adventure.

Release Date And Platforms

The Elder Scrolls Online: High Isle is coming on June 6 for PC, Mac, and Stadia players. Console players on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S will have to wait a bit longer, with the new chapter arriving on June 21.

High Isle's Political Story

The Ascendant Magus and Ascendant Lord conspiring.

High Isle's story has been described as a return to the franchise's storytelling roots, a more grounded, realistic tale of bickering factions, politics, and intrigue. It's a departure from the game's other more recent chapters, which saw players battling against demonic invasions and world-ending threats. In High Isle, players will unravel a conspiracy that is looking to disrupt secret peace talks organized by the humanitarian group Steadfast that could bring an end to the game's ongoing Three Banner War.

ESO’s High Isle Expansion Is Classic Elder Scrolls, & a Great Entry Point for Newcomers

As a complete newcomer to Elder Scrolls Online, the biggest thing that I appreciated was the fact that I didn’t need to have played through any of ESO’s previous expansions and get to the right gear level to jump into High Isle. Unlike my main MMO, FFXIV, which demands quite a bit of time and dedication if you want to keep up with the main story, Elder Scrolls Online is a kindly friend who’s just glad you’re here. And what a nice, warm welcome that is for someone who’s always been intrigued by ESO but never stepped into its vast world.

High Isle is the main ESO story of this year, and this time, Bethesda aims to flesh out the Breton race and give players the chance to explore a beautiful Mediterranean Sea-inspired archipelago full of little secrets and delights to uncover. During my time with a preview build of the game, I was given access to a decked out, max level character so that I could just explore the world freely. By the time I hit the 30-hour mark, I was already looking forward to starting over from scratch to see everything else this game had to offer.

I’d spent most of my time just wandering through the Systres Archipelago, which is home to countless small islands, large towering cliffs, and lovely high fantasy castles. The moment I got dropped into the game, my senses were immediately assaulted with quest markers, talkative NPCs with overlapping dialogue, and so many things to loot.

Netflix's The Witcher casts its Gallatin, Milva, Mistle, and Prince Radovid

With season 3 of Netflix's The Witcher adaptation now officially in production, the streaming service is beginning to loosen its lips about what's in store, and that includes casting news for four characters being introduced as part of the series' third outing.

Netflix confirmed filming on season 3 was officially underway earlier this month, sharing a behind-the-scenes shot of the show's Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri (that is, Henry Cavill, Anya Chalotra, and Freya Allan) on-set and in the snow. It also offered a brief summary of where things will be heading following the conclusion of last season, revealing that it'll see Geralt taking Ciri of Cintra into hiding.

"Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training," the streaming service explained, "Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where she hopes to discover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery."

Ubisoft: Bigger Isn't Always Better In Game Design

Some of Ubisoft's games, like the newest entries in the Assassin's Creed and Far Cry franchises, have been criticized for being too big, so much so that people feel intimidated to get started. So when Ubisoft announced a new game development technology, Scalar, that can help games grow even bigger in size with "limitless" worlds, some might have wondered if Ubisoft believes bigger is better as a rule.

That is not the case, according to Ubisoft's Patrick Bach, who is heading up the team in Stockholm working on Scalar and a new IP using it. "Do we need games to be bigger? No," Bach told GI.biz. "Are some games going to benefit from being able to be bigger? Absolutely. It depends on that game, and the goal of that game and its creators."

Bach said he believes the Scalar technology will give developers the ability to make bigger games--and some might benefit from this--but it won't be all of them.

New Need for Speed reportedly combining photo-realism with "anime elements"

Following recent claims developer Criterion's new Need for Speed game could be launching as soon as November, it's now been reported the racer will be set in a fictional version of Chicago and will combine a "photo-realistic" art style with "anime elements".

That's according to VentureBeat’s Jeff Grubb (as spotted by VGC), who discussed the long-awaited project in the latest episode of his Grubbsnax show. Elaborating on his claims the new Need for Speed would "be photo-realistic, but it’s going to have on top of that, anime elements", Grubb explained, "You know when you see a car commercial or something like that and the car’s driving around, but then cartoons flames and stuff are flying off it? That’s the kind of the aesthetic that they seem to be going for."

Away fron Need for Speed's new visual style, Grubb also claimed the racer will take place in a fictionalised version of Chicago, known as Lake Shore City, and that various familiar features would be returning for this latest Need for Speed instalment. These are said to include Autolog and its multiplayer focused social tools, plus the ability to "customise all the pieces of your car".
