Here's a look at Fall Guys' leaked Sonic the Hedgehog stage

1 year 9 months ago

We've known for a while that knockabout battle royale game Fall Guys would be bringing back its ludicrous Sonic the Hedgehog and Knuckles outfits this August, but a new leak has indicated there may be considerably more to next month's Sonic collaboration, with leakers having uncovered a new stage inspired the hedgehog's classic Green Hill Zone.

A bean-ised Sonic the Hedgehog costume initially appeared in Fall Guys all the way back in October 2020, and Knuckles made his in-store debut in November the following year. Fall Guys then continued on its merry Sonic-free way, but last month's Sonic Central livestream brought news that both character cosmetics would be returning to the game this August - as a sort of duel hoorah for Fall Guys' recent free-to-play launch and Sonic's 30th birthday - bringing with them a newcomer in the form of Tails.

That seemed to be as far developer Mediatonic and Sega planned to take their latest collaboration, but players started to suspect their might be more to come around a week ago, when a screenshot looking an awful lot like a new Green Hill Zone stage was spotted as appearing (presumably unintentionally) as part of Fall Guys' 'up next' stage select screen.

'Ultra Instinct Shaggy' Meme is Canon

1 year 9 months ago

At San Diego Comic-Con 2022 we got official confirmation that "Ultra Instinct Shaggy" meme is indeed canon.

During a panel focusing on MultiVersus, the upcoming free-to-play crossover fighting game with characters from various properties owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, when asked about the meme, MultiVersus Game Director Tony Huynh confirmed that the meme had been added to the official canon.

"While it's a meme, it's actually canon," Huynh said. "In the movie, there's that bar fight scene. There was the Mortal Kombat animated movie last year, and it was connected to that." The Mortal Kombat movie is referencing is Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms, in which Shaggy appears in the Warner Bros. Animation intro.

The Ultra Instinct Shaggy meme has been around for years. As KnowYourMeme notes, the origin dates back to 2017 after a YouTuber created a remix of Shaggy from the 2011 animated film Scooby-Doo! Legend of the Phantosaur. And the meme was added into MultiVersus, where his character bio reveals that Shaggy possesses "incredible powers."

LeBron James, Rick and Morty Confirmed For MultiVersus

1 year 9 months ago

The MultiVersus roster expands today with the news that LeBron James, Rick Sanchez, and Morty Smith are stepping into the ring.

King James joins the roster on July 26, the launch of the open beta, as the version of himself that appeared in Space Jam: A New Legacy. That means he’s rocking his Toon Squad jersey and unleashing all manner of over-the-top basketball moves. You can check him out in action in the gameplay trailer above.

Mad scientist Rick Sanchez joins the roster when Season 1 begins on August 1. He’ll be rocking his portal gun and can summon Meeseeks, among other zany abilities. Morty joins him during the season, but his arrival date has not yet been confirmed. The young sidekick focuses on using projectiles such as grenade weapons, and he can whip himself at targets.

The MultiVersus open beta begins July 26 and will be available on PlayStation and Xbox consoles and PC. Though if you played the closed alpha, you’re already playing the game right now.

Apex Legends Mobile - Neon Rebellion Versus Drop Guide

1 year 9 months ago

Apex Legends Mobile's latest in-store event, the Neon Rebellion Versus Drop (Season 2's version of an Arsenal Drop) is now available in the portable battle royale's in-game store. The Neon Rebellion Versus Drop features a collection of 20 cosmetic items, from user avatar frames and skydive emotes to Eternal and Legendary-tier character and weapon skins.

The cosmetics are unlocked at random, and each reward has a different probability of being unlocked. But Arsenal Drops are far more complicated than they appear at first glance, and the game's complex purchase design strategy can be rather confusing for the average player, so we put together a guide to provide a detailed breakdown of this Versus Drop's mechanics. If you're a little daunted by the odds-based store event, don't worry--we did the math so you don't have to.

Getting started

When you open the Apex Legends Mobile App, a pop-up announcement advertising the Neon Rebellion Versus Drop will appear. Select "Go!" to be taken directly to the store event screen. But if you've already closed the pop-up, don't worry--there are two other methods of gaining access to the event hub, though both are somewhat complicated. The first method is fairly simple: If you're feeling particularly patient, you can also find the event page by waiting for the event's banner ad to appear on the right side of the lobby.

LeBron Slams Into MultiVersus July 26, Rick And Morty Coming In Season 1

1 year 9 months ago

Warner Bros. held a special panel for its crossover fighting game MultiVersus at San Diego Comic Con, where three new characters were announced as part of the game's first season: the space-faring duo Rick and Morty, as well as Space Jam's LeBron.

LeBron--notably without "James" in his name, suggesting this is the Space Jam character and not the multiple-time NBA MVP--will enter the game first on July 26. Morty Smith will join the roster at the start of Season 1 two weeks later, while Rick Sanchez's release date has not yet been confirmed.

A brief gameplay reveal for LeBron was also released, showing off his basketball-themed moveset both in his trademark Tune Squad uniform and a cowboy-themed alternate. The video also gives brief snippets of other new features, including a Rick and Morty-themed stage.

Early access of the MultiVersus open beta began for select players on July 19, with a number of changes made to the roster after the closed alpha test in May. The beta will open to everyone on July 26, with Season 1 beginning with Morty Smith on August 9.

The MultiVersus open beta will be available on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC. Players can still earn a code to the early access phase by watching Twitch streams of the game to earn a code via a Twitch Drop.

Genshin Impact Mesmerizing Dream at Sea

HoYoVerse has debuted a new web event for Genshin Impact players. Called Mesmerizing Dream At Sea, the Genshin Impact web event enables players to gather Primogems, resources, and other goodies. Their task: To help Paimon remember a weird dream she had.

https://twitter.com/GenshinImpact/status/1550329791038889984

The Mesmerizing Dream at Sea Genshin Impact web event is available via browsers, and accessible at this link. Players will need to log in each day to access a set of Daily Commissions and other tasks. The commissions are simple objectives, including logging into the game, completing in-game commissions, or catching Crystalflies. Completing the commissions will earn Paimon's Inspirations. The Inspirations can be used to retrieve dream memories.

The dream memories play out a quiz-style scenario, where Paimon asks questions about the ongoing Summer 2022 event. Getting answers right proceeds to the next part of the Mesmerizing Dream at Sea Genshin Impact event map. Flubbing a question prompts a do-over fueled by snacks. Snacks can also be earned by completing in-game tasks such as spending a certain amount of Mora.

With that in mind, it's best to begin and progress the Summer 2022 event story while participating in the Mesmerizing Dream at Sea event, to minimize incorrect answers.

The prizes for the event include 80 Primogems, 6 Hero's Wit items, 8 Mystic Enhancement Ores, 4 Sanctifying Unctions, and 90,000 Mora.

MultiVersus Reveals New Characters, Including LeBron James and Rick Sanchez

1 year 9 months ago

MultiVersus, the Smash Bros.-like Warner Bros. crossover fighter, has revealed new characters Rick Sanchez, Morty Smith, and LeBron James.

Announced during a San Diego Comic-Con panel, the panel unveiled these characters along with a closer look at how LeBron controls in the game. While it seems jarring to put LeBron James, a real-life person and pro basketball player in the NBA, this would not be the first time we have seen a "fictionalized" version of him, which initially debuted in 2021's Space Jam: A New Legacy.

The MultiVersus panel also confirmed that Morty Smith will join the roster on August 9th, while Rick Sanchez will be playable at a later date.

LeBron James along with Rick and Morty join a roster that includes an abundance of characters from various properties owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, such as Batman, Steven Universe, and the recently-announced Iron Giant. You can see all of the MultiVersus characters here.

Saints Row PC tech preview: the reboot shines on PC, and hints towards PS5 and Series X features

1 year 9 months ago

Saints Row is back, in a 2022 reboot that sees developer Volition bring the series up to date with an enhanced in-house engine. Come its August 23rd release, we'll be able see how all consoles stack up, including PS5, Series X and last-gen machines - but today is all about our hands-on experience with an early PC build running on an RTX 3080 machine. Going in, we wanted to know how the PC version looked, running at 4K with settings maxed, and what hints we could find about what the Series X and PS5 versions that have yet to be revealed - including RT support. Let's dig in and see what's on show so far.

Right away, materials, lighting and physics in Volition's latest are a huge leap in quality over previous Saints Row games. Gone are the flat, simplistic shaders for skin and clothing present in the last Saints Row release from 2013, now replaced with more realistically lit materials. In fact, regardless of how you craft your character - and there's boundless possibilities here - there's always a respectable baseline level for model quality. Likewise for the environment, texture quality is sharp, tapping into the 10GB VRAM of our RTX 3080 here comfortably. All round, world detail level is already clearly more befitting of a project meant for a PS5 and Series X release. Getting into the action itself, car headlights are punctuated by a striking volumetric effect, adding streaks of light and adding a satisfying sense of depth to the scene. Object physics also impress right away, with set piece moments strewn with TNT producing a huge payoff as barrels split open and bridges collapse.

Ubisoft's Unannounced, Delayed Game Is Reportedly Assassin's Creed Rift

1 year 9 months ago

Yesterday, Ubisoft announced that it delayed a "smaller unannounced premium game," though the title of the game was unknown. Now, a source has revealed that this game was Rift, the codename for an upcoming Assassin's Creed title.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Assassin's Creed Rift was delayed from February to May or June because development was running behind schedule.

Rift was originally planned as an expansion for the 2020 title Assassin's Creed Valhalla, though the project became a standalone game in late 2021 to add to the company's thin release schedule. While not much is known about the game, it's reportedly set in the Middle East and features a smaller scope with a focus on stealth gameplay.

As pointed out by Bloomberg, the delay of Rift leaves Ubisoft with an especially thin fiscal year.

During an earnings report call that included the cancellation of four games and the delay of Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Ubisoft mentioned a delay for another "smaller, premium unannounced title." Hytale Won’t Release in 2023 as Developers Overhaul the Engine

1 year 9 months ago

Today Hytale developer Hypixel Studios published a development update with plenty of information about the current state of the upcoming fantasy-meets-Minecraft game.

First of all, the game’s engine is being overhauled in C++ as opposed as Java and C#, providing the following benefits.

  • It makes it easier for us to release Hytale across multiple platforms. This is one of the most common requests we receive, and we want to deliver on it without compromising on quality. We also wish to avoid a situation where our community finds themselves split up based on the platform they play on.
  • It provides performance benefits.
  • It will make it easier for us to patch and maintain the game in the future, and establishes a stronger foundation for the future development of Hytale.

When will Hytale Come out?

Unfortunately, this will impact the development timeline. While “redevelopment of the engine is proceeding quickly” and the developers are “hitting internal milestones,” this means that the game won’t be ready for 2023, which was previously identified as the best-case-scenario earliest possible release window.

The development team sympathizes with the fans who have been waiting for a long time, but they believe this course of action is best for the game in the long run.

We also learn that the team has grown a lot, and now it counts over 100 developers, with more joining every month.

As a bonus, we also get a new track from the game’s soundtrack, titled “Heroes of Orbis.”

Dimitrescu as playable DLC character in Resident Evil Village Mercenaries Trailer

Capcom has published a new Mercenaries trailer for Resident Evil Village. This trailer showcases the new content that will be available in the Gold Edition compilation and the Winters' Expansion DLC set. It primarily gives the spotlight to the three new playable characters that will be available through the DLC.

Chris Redfield can launch straight punches and use the Target Locator to call in support fire from his allies. Karl Heisenberg can summon a Soldat Jet while hitting enemies with his hammer and using his electric and magnetic abilities. Alcina Dimitrescu can attack enemies with her talons to fill her Thrill gauge. When it is full, she will be able to summon her daughters to attack the enemies in her stead.

In addition to the three new characters, the Mercenaries set will also add two new stages called "The Bloody Village" and "The Bloody River."

Super Replay | Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order – Episode XII

1 year 9 months ago

A not-so-long time ago in the same galaxy we all reside in, Respawn Entertainment deviated from its first-person shooter roots to create Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. This third-person action game was the studio’s first stab at tackling the coveted Star Wars license, crafting an original adventure set five years after Revenge of the Sith. It stars Cal Kestis, a padawan turned junker (played by Shameless star Cameron Monaghan) that managed to evade the Jedi purge of Order 66. After he’s outed by the Sith, he embarks on a quest to recover an artifact capable of locating force-sensitive children while also avoiding capture by the Inquisitors, who are elite Jedi hunters.

The game features a blend of lightsaber combat and a suite of Force abilities. Borrowing inspiration from FromSoftware’s Soul series, encounters are challenging, requiring a strategic blend of blocks and parries to outduel opponents. Meanwhile, the various planets take on a Metroid-inspired progression with players unlocking abilities to backtrack to previously inaccessible areas.

Watch on Twitch!

Fallen Order was released on November 15, 2019, and was a critical and financial success. It also served as a saving grace for single-player fans, providing proof to an increasingly multiplayer-focused EA that linear story-driven experiences can still make the big bucks. With a sequel reportedly in the works, we’re revisiting this gem of the Star Wars video game pantheon.

Touhou 18.5: 100th Black Market Will Appear at Comiket 100

1 year 9 months ago

Touhou 18.5: 100th Black Market

Touhou Project creator ZUN will release a new game at the milestone-reaching Comic Market 100. The game will be titled Touhou 18.5: 100th Black Market. Both its storyline and gameplay system will take inspiration from ZUN's previous game, Touhou 18: Unconnected Marketeers.

The story of 100th Black Market will take place shortly after the events of Unconnected Marketeers. A black market that greatly increases the value of Ability Cards outside of the creator's control has appeared in Gensokyo. While the prequel had four playable characters, this game will solely focus on Marisa Kirisame as she investigates the black market while trying to collect the cards for herself.

100th Black Market will focus on the card collection aspect. In a similar fashion to Unconnected Marketeers, players will be able to purchase and equip Ability Cards that give various buffs to Marisa, which range from passive buffs to additional attacks. Players will aim to complete the card collection while trying out different combinations. A market stage in Touhou 18.5 will consist of several short waves generated randomly.

Touhou 18.5: 100th Black Market will be available for PCs. ZUN's Team Shanghai Alice will sell physical copies of the game at Comiket 100 in Tokyo Big Sight on August 14, 2022. The developer has also confirmed plans to bring the new game to digital platforms, including Steam.
