Black Adam SDCC Sneak Peek Shows off Doctor Fate and Hawkman

1 year 8 months ago

This sneak peek (though it is decent length) was originally shown off during a panel at SDCC. Considering video’s length, this is just about a complete Black Adam trailer complete with appearances by Doctor Fate and Hawkman in full costume. These two are the only JSA (Justice Society of America) heroes shown in this sneak peek, but it has already been said that the movie will feature Cyclone and Atom Smasher as well.

You can see the sneak peek for yourself below.

Speaking of Doctor Fate and Hawkman, it’s nice to see the DCEU continue to use amazingly comic accurate costumes for the heroes. We already know that Black Adam will not feature an appearance by Shazam, which is interesting considering Black Adam’s powers come from the exact same source and they are archenemies. It’s possible their match up will happen in a Black Adam 2 or Shazam 3. We might even get a hint of that in the likely post-credit sequence.

For those maybe unaware of what Black Adam will be about, the movie’s official site gives a synopsis of:

Arknights 2.5 Anniversary Previews Invitation to Wine Event

1 year 8 months ago

Arknights 2.5 Anniversary

The global edition of Arknights sees its 36th month in operation soon. This milestone is enough for Yostar and Hypergryph to call it an anniversary and celebrate. The Arknights 2.5 Anniversary stream previewed new content and events for the game. Coming soon is a limited-time Arknights event, called "Invitation to Wine". Like Who is Real and Ancient Forge before it, Invitation to Wine is a Lunar New Year event, rescheduled to adapt to the global edition's event pacing.

Check out an anime trailer for Invitation to Wine.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpgRVVZQKB8

Like previous related Arknights events, Invitation to Wine involves a sister of the Yanese Operator Nian. Where Who is Real introduced Dusk, the eleventh of Nian's siblings, Invitation to Wine focuses on Ling, third eldest. Ling is a carefree poet who can manipulate dreams. All three of the siblings (and their other, unidentified sisters) are fragments of Sui, a powerful Yanese deity. While another new character, Lee, investigates the provenance of a mysterious wine cup, the Rhodes Island Operators Kroos and Mr. Nothing enter the heartland of Yan to track down Ling.

PlayStation 3: chasing the 1080p dream, part three - Gran Turismo 5 and the indie explosion

1 year 8 months ago

Welcome to the third part in the biggest DF Retro episode we've ever produced - a year-by-year look at how 1080p gaming fared on the PlayStation 3. Launched in 2007 touting its then-exclusive HDMI digital interface, Sony layered full HD gaming on top of its Cell processor and RSX 'Reality Synthesizer' as key selling points for its third generation console. Of course, we all know how that turned out - both Sony and Microsoft machines routinely ran the most advanced titles at sub-720p resolutions, often with questionable performance, so what happened to the 1080p dream?

In the first two parts of John Linneman's investigation, we've covered off the first four years of the Triple's lifecycle and moving into 2010, the overall fortunes of the PlayStation 3 continued to improve. The platform holder released - what was then - the most advanced motion controller in the console space, backed up by experiments with stereoscopic 3D, which turned out to be a short-lived but still formidable pairing. Combined with a strong E3 showing, PS3 was looking good.

However, it's fair to say that it was a fallow year for 1080p gaming on the system, with only Scott Pilgrim Saves The World's razor-sharp pixel art upscaling, Castle Crashers and Soldner X2's 3D/FMV stylings accommodating full HD output - alongside a wonderful Monkey Island remaster.

Genshin Impact Sumeru Will Have Rainforests and Deserts

1 year 8 months ago

HoYoVerse has released another trailer for the upcoming Sumeru region in Genshin Impact. As a reminder, Sumeru will come out in Version 3.0, which is the next update after the current Version 2.8. While the first trailer focused on the concept of the Dendro element, the “Of Rain and Sand” video takes a look at the actual region players will get to explore.

Unlike previous regions, which remains fairly consistent in biome, Sumeru will have a rainforest section and a desert one. The rainforest will have lots of mountains and tropical flora. As well, the desert will have ruins and oases, as well as caves. As Genshin Impact is a fantasy game, the team did not want the designs to look that realistic, though it did incorporate real-life designs as influence.

You can watch the full video and interview behind the design of Genshin Impact’s Sumeru region here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2l9IpLVgXQ

Some characters who will appear in Sumeru include Collei, Tighnari, and Dori. There is no official information as of yet in regards to their rarity and whether they will be immediately available in the gacha when Version 3.0 launches.

Make FFVII Banora White Juice With This Simple Recipe

1 year 8 months ago

banora white juice

The Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary Cafe closed down shop on July 22, 2022, but the FFVII Remake Twitter account has uploaded a recipe for Banora White Juice in case anyone who missed it wants to give it a try. The video is just under two minutes long, and there are no English subtitles. However, the recipe is fairly simple, with perhaps the only difficulty being locating butterfly pea syrup.

https://twitter.com/FFVIIR_CLOUD/status/1550707279611146241

Banora White Juice calls for 150 mL of apple juice that you pour over ice. You then put in a combination of butterfly pea syrup (20 mL) and “purple haze” syrup (5 mL). It is slightly unclear if “purple haze” syrup is syrup with the flavors of a Purple Haze mixed drink. It may also be possible to simply pour in 25 mL of butterfly pea syrup. After pouring in syrups, you squeeze in the juice of one lemon and then top it with some mint leaves. You will not need to shake it.

In Final Fantasy VII lore, a Banora White (or dumbapple) is a species of apple, and the Banora Underground references juice made from the apples. The fruit is a key component in the story of Crisis Core, and will likely make an appearance in the remake of the game. You can also see posters for Banora White Apple Juice in FFVII Remake.

Stray vs. The Last Guardian - who did cats best?

1 year 8 months ago

This piece originally went out to Eurogamer Supporters as part of the weekly Eurogamer Essentials newsletter which goes out every Friday to all members - head here if you'd like to find out how to support Eurogamer.

Almost as many years have passed since The Last Guardian's release as there were in the wait for Fumito Ueda's much-delayed masterpiece following its 2009 reveal, and the biggest surprise after all that time is how quickly it was forgotten. Perhaps the anticipation was much of the appeal for so many, or maybe video game audiences are fickle like that - fixating on something then tossing it aside with the indifference of a young cat presented with a new toy.

It's a small shame, really, because while it might have been impossible for The Last Guardian to live up all that hype, it managed to live up to my own lofty expectations; chiefly that it would find its place in the lineage of Ueda's previous games, matching the majesty and icy magic of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Somewhat spectacularly, it's done more than that, and with six years of distance I'm fairly comfortable saying The Last Guardian is my favourite of the lot.

Getting acquainted with death and Mexican tradition through Grim Fandango

1 year 8 months ago

Death. "The greatest of all human blessings" according to Socrates, "a very dull and dreary affair" to W. Somerset Maugham, and "always around the corner" as observed by Carter Burwell. But, ultimately, the inevitability of all living beings. It is the one experience that is guaranteed and that the human brain will never truly know fully: both accepted and incomparably frightening.

Death has been explored in countless mediums since humanity first began to explore artistic expression and creation, often drawing on commonly recognised beliefs or customs and the representation of the soul. In gaming, the act of death and being dead has often been utilised as a theme, a conclusion, a key plot element, or a shocking twist. And games that explore the state of being dead, while adding original tweaks, even now still tend to veer towards spirits, ghosts, and similarly ethereal beings. This was certainly the go-to in the '90s during the growth of 3D gaming, following that commonly recognised imagery. Particular cultures were rarely explored. Until 1998, when Tim Schafer's second solo venture crossed over and hit the stores.

Everything Announced by Marvel Studios at SDCC

1 year 8 months ago

Marvel Studios was at San Diego Comic-Con this weekend, providing a ton of new information regarding its upcoming releases, both live-action and animation.

Below is where you can check out everything that was announced by Marvel Studios at SDCC.

The Multiverse Saga

The Multiverse Saga has officially been confirmed as the current saga we are in with Phase 4 and will run until Phase 6. After ending the Infinity Saga with Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home, this feels like the natural progression to go in.

Phase 4 is now set to end this year, with She-Hulk: Attorney at Law and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Then, Phase 5 will begin with Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania and end with Thunderbolts, while finally, Phase 6 will begin with Fantastic 4 and will end with Avengers: Secret Wars, the conclusion to the Multiverse Saga.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever

The Black Panther franchise will continue later this year, where we will see the Wakandans go up against a new group, Atlanteans. Of course, due to the tragic passing of Chadwick Boseman, someone else will be taking up the mantle of the Black Panther, which is teased in the trailer’s final moments.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever Official Teaser Reveals the End of Phase 4

1 year 8 months ago

San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing, and making its first appearance since 2019, Marvel debuted the official trailer of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the sequel to 2018’s Black Panther and follows the story of the supporting cast following the unfortunate loss of Black Panther actor, Chadwick Boseman. The trailer gives a ton of insight as to what fans can expect with snippets of Namor, a tribute to Black Panther himself, and what seems to be a conflict as Wakanda looks to stabilize itself after the events of Avengers Infinity War.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever sees Ryan Cooler return as the director with Letitia Wright, Angela Bassett, Winston Duke, Danai Gurira, Lupita Nyong’o, and Martin Freeman return to fill the roles they previously occupied in the first movie.

New She-Hulk Trailer Dropped With a Surprise Daredevil Cameo

1 year 8 months ago

Marvel Studios’ San Diego Comic-Con panel was today, and we got some major announcements from it. While few actual trailers were released, one of them was an official trailer for the upcoming She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, giving us new glimpses of the show, along with a surprise cameo at the end.

She-Hulk: Attorney at Law will follow Bruce Banner’s cousin, Jennifer Walters, as she has to navigate being a single woman, a lawyer at a new firm, oh yeah, and of course, the fact that she is now a green giant.

The biggest news coming out of the trailer is that, in the final moments, we get a glimpse at Daredevil, who has his own show, Daredevil: Born Again, coming in 2024. While we don’t get a complete look at Daredevil in the trailer, it is undoubtedly him as he is not only donning the red suit, but it also has some yellow in it as well, something right out of the comics.

Something else right out of the comics that the trailer showcases is that She-Hulk will be breaking the fourth wall. This is not only something straight out of her source material, but it also looks to fit as the series is being described as a 30-minute comedy.

Along with this new trailer, we also received this snazzy new poster of Jennifer sitting on a bench with an ad for her law firm.

Netflix Cowboy Bebop Intro Nominated for Emmy

1 year 8 months ago

cowboy bebop emmy

The Netflix adaptation of Cowboy Bebop has been nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Main Title Design category. This means that the show’s intro sequence is what the Academy focused on. Other shows in the same category include Only Murders in the Building, Pachinko, and Severance.

While not an exact one-to-one, the Emmy-nominated introduction for the Netflix version of Cowboy Bebop took a lot of cues from the original anime one. It has the same jazzy song, angles, and silhouettes. There are also similar shots. IGN has uploaded a video comparing the Netflix sequence to the original side-by-side, which you can watch here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cIVSY3BhU9Y

Cowboy Bebop debuted on Netflix on November 19, 2021, and less than a month later, Netflix announced the cancellation of its second season. According to sources, the drop in “viewing activity” during the week of December 5, 2021, made it seem unfeasible to renew the show considering production costs. Because the show left room to continue the story in a second season, it now ends with a cliffhanger of sorts.

New Marvel Trademarks Name Shang-Chi, Captain America, & Celestials

1 year 8 months ago

San Diego Comic-Con is currently underway out west, but Marvel has been making the biggest news of the weekend with a massive list of trademarks. It all started yesterday when it was found that Marvel filed trademarks for Avengers: Secret Wars, Avengers: The Kang Dynasty, Captain America: New World Order, Multiverse Saga, and Thunderbolts.

Every Recent Marvel Trademark

Today, the trademarks just keep on rolling in. All kinds of new trademarks that were made in the last couple of days can be found on the EUIPO website. Down below is a full list of the other recent trademarks not mentioned above:

  • Avengers Eternity Wars
  • Captain America: Red White And Black
  • Nomad
  • Celestials: End of Time
  • Eternity Saga
  • Avengers Excursion
  • Avengers Timeless
  • Avengers Academy
  • Timeless Saga
  • Hercules: Rise or the Gods
  • Sam Wilson Captain America
  • The Black Knight: Origins
  • Shang-Chi and the Wreckage of Time
  • Runaways: New Era
  • Red Guardian: Generations
  • Midnight Sons

Some of these are certainly more noteworthy than others like the Avengers, Celestials, Shang-Chi, and Captain America trademarks. However, it’s also interesting to see the different saga trademarks since the Multiverse Saga name from yesterday seemed quite fitting for most of the current MCU phase.

Still, it’s important to keep in mind that trademarks are the end-all and be-all when it comes to upcoming Marvel content. Sure, some of it may come to be the title of the next big Shang Chi, Captain America, or Avengers film, but it’s certainly not indicative of any certainty when it comes to naming.

Shazam: Fury of the Gods Trailer Pits Billy Batson Against Gods and Dragons

1 year 8 months ago

The first trailer for Shazam! Fury of The Gods has just been released and sees the return of Zachary Levi as the titular hero.

The trailer sees Billy Batson/Shazam struggling to find his place as a hero in a world with Batman, The Flash, and Wonder Woman. The Shazam Family, on the other hand, are off doing their own thing but are brought back together as they’re hunted by the villainous daughters of Atlas. Who happen to have a literal dragon on their side.

Shazam! Fury of The Gods sees the return of David F. Sandberg as director and reunites Levi with his co-stars Asher Angel, Jack Dylan Grazer, Djimon Honseau, Adam Brody, and Grace Fulton. Helen Mirren and Lucy Liu will join the cast as Hespera and Kalypso, the daughters of Atlas.

Further details about the film were revealed during the panel. There will be a time jump from the first film, and the plot will largely focus on the Shazam Family coming together as a superhero team. Levi teased the possibility of a third Shazam movie, but nothing’s been greenlit, so we’ll have to see how Shazam! Fury of The Gods performs at the box office.

Jesus Simulator I Am Jesus Christ Shows Cleansing the Temple in New Video

1 year 8 months ago

Today Developer SimulaM released a new video of its upcoming Jesus simulator I am Jesus Christ.

In the video, we get to see another famous action by Jesus Christ in Jerusalem. Since it’s close to his arrest, it’s close to the end of the game.

This time around, you can channel your inner divine vandal and “cleanse the temple” by destroying the tables of the merchants and money changers. Looks like this version of Jesus has a similar idea of “cleansing” as a Warhammer 40,000’s Space Marine.

We also hear the confirmation that a build of the game will be presented at Gamescom, where attendees will also be able to meet the developers. Early access on Steam is still scheduled for December 2022.

You can check it out below.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game, it’s basically an adventure title in which you play Jesus through his whole life, meeting characters that will prove familiar to many, on top of performing all the famous miracles.

While the proposition may seem a bit “out there” to some, SimulaM has been working diligently on I am Jesus Christ for years, showing quite a lot of content over time and launching multiple beta tests. They even switched from Unity to Unreal Engine 5 a few months ago.

Inside AMD FSR 2.0: the Xbox connection and what could come next

1 year 8 months ago

AMD's FSR 2.0 image upscaling technology has been a hot topic in the PC gaming space recently, as it recently went open source and was quickly hacked into a wide range of games by community modders. Unlike rival Nvidia's DLSS, AMD's tech is available on essentially all modern graphics cards and therefore offers some tempting opportunities to boost frame-rates on a wide range of machines, from high-end desktop PCs to the Steam Deck.

To get a better sense of how and why FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.0 was developed, and where the technology will go from here, we spoke to the head of the FSR 2.0 project, Nicolas Thibieroz, whose full title is director of game engineering at AMD. We last spoke with Nicolas back in 2021 after FSR 1.0 launched, leaving us plenty of recent developments - and future plans - to talk about.

This interview was conducted online and recorded on video, but a written transcript is available below. Note that both questions and answers have been edited lightly for readability. Enjoy!

Is Spider-Man: Freshman Year Set In The MCU? Answered

1 year 8 months ago

We got out first look at Spider-Man: Freshman Year last night at Marvel’s animation panel and it’s safe to say that it left a lot of fans feeling very confused.

The animated series has long been billed as a prequel to Spidey’s adventures in the MCU before he met Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War. Take one look at the cast, though, and it’s clear to see that things don’t quite add up with how Peter Parker’s story has played out over the years. Here’s everything we know about whether Spider-Man: Freshman Year is Set in the MCU.

Is Spider-Man Freshman Year Set In The MCU?

According to Marvel and Disney, Spider-Man: Freshman Year is indeed canon to the MCU. Series head writer Jeff Trammell spoke at the animation panel yesterday and reiterated that Spider-Man: Freshman Year is set before the events of Captain America: Civil War.

The official synopsis which has been released for the show seems to further confirm that Spidey’s animated adventures will be canon to the MCU:

Spider-Man: Freshman Year is an animated series that follow’s Peter Parker on his way to becoming Spider-Man in the MCU, with a journey unlike we’ve ever seen and a style that celebrates the character’s early comic book roots.

How is this possible though with the addition of classic rogues like Doc Ock and Chameleon and Spidey’s nemesis Norman Osborn. Spider-Man: No Way Home made it clear that Peter hadn’t faced these villains before.

Street Fighter 6 Classic Costumes for Ryu, Chun-Li, Guile Revealed

Street Fighter 6 Classic Costumes

Street Fighter 6 is coming with all-new fits for its world warriors, but some looks just don't die. That's why Capcom confirmed the existence of Street Fighter 6 classic costumes for series OGs Ryu, Chun-Li, and Guile. The costumes were first revealed at Capcom's SF6 panel at the ongoing San Diego Comic-Con 2022.

High-resolution screenshots of the Street Fighter 6 Classic Costumes were later uploaded to Capcom's official Twitter account. Check them out in the gallery below.

The three costumes return Guile, Chun-Li, and Ryu to their appearances in Street Fighter II. Ryu once again wears his torn white gi, and is clean-shaven. Guile is back in his camouflage pants and olive-green tank top. Thanks to modern lighting and the game's aesthetic, though, the colors are a bit closer to his Champion Edition look than Street Fighter I or II. Chun-Li wears her modified blue cheongsam, with the spiked bracelets, sheer tights, and white boots. The Street Fighter 6 Classic Costumes also enable Chun-Li to perform a new taunt animation, one that has its own hitbox.

The Classic Costumes will be available in-game as DLC. Capcom didn't confirm the timing of the DLC. It also didn't confirm if the DLC is free or costs money. Beyond just the classic costumes, it will, though, be adding other new looks. The SDCC panel highlighted a street wear costume for Luke, and another alternate costume for Jamie.

Muddy hell! PowerWash Simulator is better than I ever expected

1 year 8 months ago

I once chased someone across a B&Q car park because of a power washer. It was when I worked there - I wouldn't chase someone now! Maybe if there was a sale... But no. I was standing by the tills when I saw someone leg it back through the entrance with a large power-washer box. Inspired by my macho colleague Russell - "Russ" - who had recently chased a shoplifter and tackled them into a hedge, I shot through the exit doors and across the car park after them.

The thing is, I hadn't really thought it through. I didn't know what I'd do if I caught up with them - politely ask them to give it back? I'm not sure I actually fancied diving into a hedge. To make matters worse, they were running towards a car with other people inside. What was I supposed to do about them?

But so intimidating must my visage have been - maybe I run like a charging rhino - that by the time I got near, they had dropped the power-washer, jumped in their getaway car and taken off, doing me a massive favour in the process. I returned to the store a hero - even Russ looked impressed.
