Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic remake delayed indefinitely

1 year 9 months ago

The Force isn’t strong with the remake of classic RPG Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic, which has been delayed indefinitely following a badly received demo shown internally at the end of June. Bloomberg reports that the game’s design director and art director were subsequently fired from developers Aspyr Media during the week after the demo was finalised. Sources from Aspyr told Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier that the game had been intended for a 2022 release, but that 2025 was more "realistic".

MultiVersus is off to flying start on Steam

1 year 9 months ago

Warner Bros brawler MultiVersus has seen a strong start on Steam, following the arrival of its open beta yesterday.

At the time of writing, its player count is sitting at a comfortable 49,486, with a peak of 144,456 today.

These numbers currently put it ahead of other popular (although admittedly older) games such as Monster Hunter Rise, Destiny 2 and Fifa 22.

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake "in serious trouble" and "delayed indefinitely"

1 year 9 months ago

Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic remake is "in serious trouble" and "delayed indefinitely", according to a new report.

Bloomberg said developer Aspyr fired the game's art director and design director this month, and told staff the hotly-anticipated remake is "on pause".

The dramatic decision comes after Aspyr, which has been working on the game for three years, demoed a vertical slice to Lucasfilm and publisher Sony at the end of June. Apparently Aspyr bosses told staff this demo "wasn't where they wanted it to be".

When Does Tower of Fantasy Release?

1 year 9 months ago

With its stylized aesthetic reminiscent of Genshin Impact, a dystopian setting, and fast-paced combat system, Level Infinite’s upcoming shared open-world RPG has caught the attention of many. But when does Tower of Fantasy release? Here we’ll highlight everything you need to know.

When Does Tower of Fantasy Release? Answered

Tower of Fantasy is set to launch later this summer, with a release date of Aug. 11. The announcement followed a cryptic Tweet from the game’s official channel which included a Morse code hinting at the date. It was then made official toward the end of July.

The date is in keeping with the Q3, 2022, launch window set by the development team earlier this year:

New Secret Room Uncovered in NieR: Automata, Yoko Taro Explains He Loves Sausage & Beer

1 year 9 months ago

NieR: Automata‘s well of secrets continues to run deep, it would seem. Just last year, it was discovered that by pressing the right button inputs in an early game area, players would be able to jump straight to the secret Ending E sequence. This week, players have uncovered a whole new secret area and a very short cutscene in the game.

The video was originally posted by Reddit user sadfutago, who shows A2 falling through what looks like the Copied City, or perhaps even the very final area in the game. At the very bottom of the area is a church-like room, though it’s impossible to interact with any of the objects in there.

A follow-up video reveals that there was a short cutscene as well, indicating that this area might have been scrapped during development. Crucially, we get a shot of a Lunar Tear, which is a very significant and symbolic flower in the NieR and Drakengard series.

Creating Grand Theft Auto and Zzap!64: the life and stories of Gary Penn

1 year 9 months ago

I still can't get over hearing that Grand Theft Auto was nearly canned - the Grand Theft Auto, the original, the game that started it all. What would have happened if it never came out? And it very nearly didn't, to hear Gary Penn talk about it, senior producer and then creative director on it. "That game was pretty much nearly canned every bloody week," he tells me in episode 20 of One-to-one, now available to all premium Eurogamer supporters.

Why was it nearly canned? Because "it was going nowhere and it was awful" - Penn isn't one for mincing his words. "I don't know why I used to defend it every week," he says. "I think I just believed that it could be something, as did Sam Houser who used to work there as well ... he was one of the other few people who believed in it." (Sam Houser went on to co-found Rockstar with his brother Dan and do very well out of GTA, of course.)

There's an audible sigh as I ask Gary Penn what was so awful about it, as if it's painful to remember. "For a start it rarely worked," he begins. "It would crash constantly - full-on, full-scale crashing, not sort of 'oh, slightly inconvenient'. You couldn't play it for more than a few minutes.

One-to-one: Meet Gary Penn of Zzap!64 and GTA fame

1 year 9 months ago

Everything starts somewhere, and when the games industry began to form in the UK, back in the '80s, Gary Penn - my guest on the One-to-one podcast today - was there. A young adult passionate about games, he was propelled to micro-stardom, as he puts it, when he won a competition to find Britain's best gamer and ended up writing for Zzap!64 magazine. It was a magazine that changed the face of games journalism, injecting passion and charisma into it.

After Zzap!64, Penn would go on to win awards for The One magazine, before leaving editorial and side-stepping into consulting and ultimately, producing games. And it's then that he would cross paths with the most famous game series of all: Grand Theft Auto. Except, it wasn't called GTA at the time and it wasn't very good. In fact, Race n' Chase as it was known then, was "awful", according to Penn. But fate - and Penn - ensured the game wouldn't be cancelled and GTA would be released, paving the way for the series to become the cultural phenomenon it is today.

But by the time GTA3 was in development, Penn had had enough. He had severely burnt out and didn't want to work around the clock any more. So, along with some other DMA Design people, he would make a new studio called Denki to create very different kinds of games. Hundreds of these would be interactive TV games, but as time moved on, the studio ditched those in favour of games like Quarrel, which we loved on Eurogamer in 2011/2012 - a mash up of Risk and Scrabble.

How to Watch the Ice Age Movies in Chronological Order

1 year 9 months ago

Ice Age is a children’s animated film featuring prehistoric animals. The original cast of characters include a mammoth, sabertooth tiger, a ground sloth, and a human child, all of whom learn to work together to return the young child to their family. It’s a heartwarming and surprisingly funny franchise that has held up over the years, despite many sequels and the growing list of characters. If you’ve never watched one before or have kids you’re sharing them with, here’s how to watch the Ice Age movies in chronological order.

How to Watch the Ice Age Movies in Chronological Order

Every Ice Age Movie in Order, Excluding Short Films

In total, there are six Ice Age movies. It may sound daunting and possibly confusing to keep track of, but the good news is that Blue Sky Studios didn’t release prequels. That means the order you watch them in is the same order in which they were released.

  1. Ice Age (2002)
  2. Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006)
  3. Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs (2009)
  4. Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012)
  5. Ice Age: Collision Course (2016)
  6. The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild (2022)

The other good news is that if you have a Disney+ subscription, you can watch all six films in quick succession. So, warm up some popcorn, grab some candy, and enjoy the movies.

How to Fix No Location Found on iPhone

1 year 9 months ago

Being able to find your iPhone’s location is crucial if it gets lost, misplaced, or stolen. In that case, using Apple’s Find My app can be incredibly helpful. It not only locates your device, but also the devices of friends and family who share their location with you. However, the service relies on having a connection, which also means it doesn’t always work and an error may appear. Here’s what you can do to fix No Location Found on iPhones.

How to Fix No Location Found on iPhone

Check “Find My” App System Status

The first move you should make is to double-check that the Find My app service is currently available. Every now and then, Apple disables the service to make updates or fixes.

  1. Visit Apple’s official System Status page.
  2. The service you’re looking for is “Find My.”

If the Find My service is available, there will be a green dot next to the left. Unfortunately, there’s nothing you can do to change the status. When Apple is finished making changes, the service will be available once again. You would do the same if you’re getting an SSL error with Apple Music.

Update Your iPhone’s OS

If you checked the status for Apple’s services and the Find My service is up and running, then the next step is to update the operating system for your iPhone. This is especially true if the Find My app was working previously and no changes were made to the in-app settings.

  1. Open Settings and select the General tab.
  2. In General, choose Software Update.

Try using the Find My app again after the updates are downloaded and installed.

Xbox Series X|S Remain Xbox's Fastest-Selling Consoles Ever

1 year 9 months ago

Last year, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced at the company's full year earnings call that the Xbox Series X and S were the fastest-selling consoles in Xbox history. Now, a year later and nearly two years into the consoles' life cycles, he's affirmed this continues to be true.

While this sounds a bit obvious, what Nadella's really saying here is that sales of the newest Xbox consoles haven't really slowed down significantly since they launched, at least not compared to past Xbox consoles.

His exact words were that Microsoft has "sold more consoles life-to-date than any previous generation of Xbox." So almost two years in, none of the other Xboxes had sold as many units as the current generation.

That's a lot of Xboxes, especially given the many challenges the ongoing chip shortage has presented in getting the dang things on the shelves in the first place.

Nadella also mentioned a few other numbers. He reminded us that Xbox consoles have been the next-gen console market leader for three quarters in a row now (basically, they've been outselling PS5 for the last three quarters). And, hardware aside, Xbox's xCloud seems to be doing all right too — over four million people have streamed Fortnite to date on xCloud, Nadella said, including over one million people who were brand new to the xCloud ecosystem.

New Apex Legends Glitch or Cheat Creates a Squad Wiping Thunder Storm

1 year 9 months ago

Just like any game, Apex Legends is subject to the will of players discovering new glitches and hacks in order to get the upper hand. The newest glitch that’s been making the rounds in the community’s Reddit forum is an interesting one that only Thor the God of Thunder could make happen.

As shown in the above video, the team who suffered at the hands of the glitch were wiped by what appears to be a multitude of Ash’s Arc Snares trapping them in a violent thunder bubble. The exact cause or method on how to perform this is unknown, although some fans are saying it’s because of Rampart’s Amped Cover ability. However, it’s insanely powerful as the team was wiped as soon as they saw it.

While it’s currently being discussed as a potential glitch, many are quick to point out that it could be a new cheat. Earlier this year, a video of a dual-wielding R99 hacker surfaced which likely points to this new technique being a cheat. Hopefully, Apex Legends anti-cheat can pick this up before entire lobbies are swarmed with Ash Arc Snares or before some fans turn to boycotting the game.

4 Million Users Played Fortnite on Xbox Cloud Gaming as Microsoft Boasts Next-Gen Leadership in North America

1 year 9 months ago

Microsoft is hosting its quarterly financial conference call for investors and analysts and chief executive officer Satya Nadella and chief financial officer Amy Hood talked about the Xbox business.

Nadella claimed leadership in North America among next-gen (actually current-gen) consoles for three quarters in a row, mentioning that Microsoft sold more consoles life-to-date than any previous generation of Xbox.

He also revealed that 4 million people have streamed Fortnite on Xbox Cloud Gaming, and 1 million among them were new to the Xbox ecosystem.

“We offer the best value in the gaming industry. Our Xbox Game Pass Subscription Service includes access to hundreds of games and Xbox Series S is the most affordable next-generation console. We sold more consoles life to date than any previous generation of Xbox, and have been the market leader in North America for three quarters in a row amongst next-gen consoles.

And with Xbox Cloud Gaming, we are bringing games to new ene points. Players now can stream Xbox games on Samsung Smart TVs.

And we partnered with epic games to make Fortnite available for free via the browser. Over 4 million. People have streamed, the game to date, including over 1 million who were new to our ecosystem.”

Hood prefaced the reveal of the outlook by mentioning that it does not include the impact of the acquisition of Activision, which Microsoft still expects to close by the end of this fiscal year (March 2023).

Gaming revenue for the current quarter (between July and September 2022) is expected to decline in the low-to-mid single digits driven by decline in first-party content partly offset by the growth of Game Pass subscribers and consoles.

Urbek City Builder demands efficient use of natural resources, not money

Urbek City Builder looks like a traditional entry to the genre: you place buildings, cars and little people begin to scurry about, and you gradually expand your urban sprawl. Instead, your city flourishes or not based on your ability to fulfil each building's resource requirements, which quickly turns progress into more of a puzzle than a management game.

Hard West 2 is so much more than supernatural cowboy XCOM

1 year 9 months ago

Bank robberies are classic cowboy fare. Whether you're up to no good in Red Dead Redemption 2 or stealing from the rich to (sort of) give to the poor in the original Desperados, these temples of cash have long been the scenes of messy shootouts, upturned tables, and big, golden pay-outs. At least when your heist strategy's going according to plan, that is. In an exclusive demo for one of the later levels in Hard West 2, the upcoming sequel to the 2015 turn-based tactics original, Ice Code Games' chief technology officer Mateusz Pilski is starting to feel the heat a bit. The bank is well guarded, with at least half a dozen gunslingers staking out the doors at the front, and untold numbers waiting in hidden nooks and crannies further back. He takes a moment to consider his approach, but he begins his assault with confidence.

"In any XCOM-like, when you see that many enemies and that much firepower, in that good a position, you think, okay, I'm fucked up," he tells me. "In just a second, I will show you how you can use Bravado to totally overturn the situation."

Uh, Did I Just Hear Paul Rudd in FX/Hulu’s The Bear Episode 8?

1 year 9 months ago

Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past month, there’s a good chance you’ve heard talk about FX/Hulu’s most recent breakout television series, The Bear. Starring Shameless’ Jeremy Allen White, the show takes a look at the story of what happens when a gifted young chef from the world of fine dining comes home to Chicago to run his family’s Italian beef sandwich shop.

A black comedy, The Bear deals with the behind-the-scenes chaos of running a kitchen and owning a restaurant, as well as the grief and coping that comes with losing a loved one. It’s arguably one of the best shows on television in 2022 and is filled with plenty of great references and inside jokes for anyone that’s ever worked in a restaurant.

What’s even more interesting than all of the back-of-house stuff that goes on is an interesting, possibly uncredited, voice you can hear during Episode 8, Braciole. If you listen closely while Neil Fak (Matty Matheson) talks to the Ball Breaker machine, you’ll hear a familiar voice: Paul Rudd.

In the conversation, Rudd plays a video game character that Fak is talking to (in a made-up conversation in his head, taking place at the 31: 34 mark), where he asks him if he ever feels sad. His character says, “Of course I do, but I don’t talk about it. I keep it all inside. It helps me beat the shit out of people.”

While there hasn’t been anything to confirm regarding the cameo, it seems pretty hard to deny that Paul Rudd was the voice of the video game character Fak is talking to in the Machine. Considering the star power The Bear was already able to pull in, including fellow Marvel actor Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), the idea doesn’t seem too far-fetched.

What do you think? Was that really Paul Rudd in The Bear’s final episode of Season 1? Be sure to let us know in the comment section below.
