Wadjet Eye shows off point-and-click folk horror The Excavation of Hob's Barrow

1 year 9 months ago

Point-and-click specialist Wadjet Eye Games - the studio behind the acclaimed likes of Unavowed and the celebrated Blackwell series - is teaming up with indie studio Cloak and Dagger Games to publish its forthcoming folk horror adventure The Excavation of Hob's Barrow on PC, Mac, and Linux later this year.

While the name might not be familiar, Cloak and Dagger Games has been steadily making a name for itself in the point-and-click genre over the last half-decade with a series of idiosyncratic short-form adventures, primarily within the realm of horror. A few of them, including deliciously creepy early title A Date in the Park, with its expert ratcheting of unease, can be played for free.

The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is Cloak and Dagger's first new title since 2019's Lovecraft-inspired freebie The Terrible Old Man, and follows the Victorian-era adventure of antiquarian and author Thomasina Bateman as she arrives in the remote village of Bewlay after receiving a mysterious summons concerning its ancient barrows.

NieR Automata Secret Church Potentially Discovered

1 year 9 months ago

NieR Automata Secret Church

Five years after the release of NieR Automata, it seems the game may still hide some secrets. An anonymous player may have discovered a secret church in NieR Automata, hidden in the game's Copied City area. That is, of course, if the claim can be verified and it doesn't turn out to be an elaborate hoax or prank.

One complicating factor is that only a single anonymous player has been able to access the NieR Automata secret church. The area is supposedly hidden behind a wall in the Copied City. A player named "sadfutago" posted to the NieR Subreddit board asking about the requirements to access the area, which were unclear. Most respondents did not believe that any Copied City buildings were accessible. Sadfutago posted video of the area, which revealed a previously-unknown hidden door. Commenters were divided between calling the video a fake and investigating the claim.

MultiVersus Confirms No More Progress Resets Amid Big Open Beta Release

1 year 9 months ago

During the testing phase for MultiVersus, the new platform fighter from Warner Bros., players were subject to regular progress resets. However, alongside yesterday's open beta release, the game won’t have any more resets, allowing players to keep their progress forever.

As pointed out by PC Gamer, in an announcement on the MultiVersus Discord server, Warner Bros. social and community director Nikki Grantham explained how progression will work going forward. “If you played during the Early Access period, all of your progression to ALL of the characters you played during 7/19 - 7/25 is saved (yay!),” Grantham said.

“So, no worries if you can't unlock all of the characters you played before, you'll keep and resume your progress once they're in the free rotation or if you unlock 'em," Grantham added.

Alongside this announcement, Grantham also discussed the game’s new character rotation system, which gives players a small roster of free characters that swap out every two weeks.

“Character progression you earn with these characters beginning from Early Access this timeframe will be SAVED so when they're back in rotation (or if you unlock them with in-game Gold) you'll be able to continue right where you left off,” Grantham said.

Speaking of Genshin Impact, the incredibly popular open-world adventure RPG from HoYoverse revealed a revamped worldview perspective that will be available to play soon.

As for CAPTAIN TSUBASA: ACE, Mario Kart Tour and Pokemon Masters EX’s developer DeNA will be bringing the immersive soccer simulation game based on the anime of the same name to mobile devices. Alongside recreating scenes from the anime, fans will be able to play “high octane matches” wherever they may be.

Totally Accurate Battle Simulator (TABS), the battle sim game that took Steam by storm in 2019 and lets players unofficially predict Game of Thrones battles and whether Steam was better than the Epic Games Store, will soon be getting the mobile treatment from developer XD Inc.

XD Inc. had a huge presence at TapTap Presents and came to the showcase with four other world premieres besides TABS Mobile, including a turn-based card RPG set in a metaphysic world called Etheria: Restart, a game development tool that is designed to be as easy to use as possible called Project SCE, a fantasy idle RPG called Go Go! How To Fix Dev Error 6036 in Warzone

1 year 9 months ago

Error codes are one of the worst things in gaming. Especially when it is something reoccurring, and then you have the fight the game just to be able to play. Warzone is especially guilty of more than one error you might get at any point that seems to happen on any platform. Here’s how to fix Dev Error 6036 in Call of Duty: Warzone.

Fixing Warzone Dev Error 6036

The fact is this one could hit whether you are playing Call of Duty: Warzone on PC or Consoles makes giving out fixes a little more tricky. However, it could be a common issue between either of needing to update the game.

If you are playing on PC, open your BattleNet launcher and find Warzone. Click the settings icon and select the check for updates option. If you want to be safe, you can also click Scan and Repair, but that’s not fully necessary unless you have a bit of time to let the scan go.

There have also been reports that disabling both the Cache Spot and Cache Sun Shadows in the graphics settings for PC players has had some positive effects when it comes to this error.

Dev Error 6036 on Console

For console players, while you don’t have the scan option to check your game files, you can still check and see if a missing update is your problem.

For PlayStation players (same process for both PS4 and PS5) simply hit the PS button to be brought back to the home screen. Hit the Options button and select Check for Update. Just to be safe, also close and restart the game after checking.

Is Tower of Fantasy Free To Play?

1 year 9 months ago

Since it was announced, a big question on MMORPG fans’ minds has been is Tower of Fantasy free to play? As the game feels like a more futuristic, sci-fi version of Genshin Impact, it’s a very valid question. Here is everything you need to know about whether it is one or not.

Is Tower of Fantasy Free To Play?

Yes, Tower of Fantasy is a free-to-play game. Anyone interested in the title can pre-register on the iOS and the Google Play store now. The game can also be wishlisted on Steam and the Epic Games Store for PC before it arrives in August 2022.

As with any free-to-play title, the first question you’ll always end up asking with this one is: does Tower of Fantasy have microtransactions?

Does Tower of Fantasy Have Microtransactions?

The answer is, yes, Tower of Fantasy does have microtransactions. You can purchase these in the store, and it’ll grant you different characters, weapons, and numerous outfits that you would have to get on random loot drops or rolls or by buying them with in-game currency.

Since all these items are also available to unlock in-game, microtransactions are only optional when playing Tower of Fantasy. If you’re short on time and have the cash, though, microtransactions may be something that interests you.

That just about does it for everything you need to know on is Tower of Fantasy free-to-play. If you’re still on the hunt for more info about the series, be sure to check out the rest of Twinfinite to see the rest of our guides, which have plenty of tips, tricks, and FAQs.

What Does BOH Mean in The Bear? Answered

1 year 9 months ago

The FX/Hulu series has achieved critical acclaim and won viewers over with its unfiltered depiction of working in restaurants and hospitality, but you may be left in the dark when it comes to some of the lingo. One aspect of the series that has received attention from industry veterans is its BOH depiction of restaurants. But what does that mean exactly? Here’s everything we know about what BOH means in The Bear.

What Does BOH Mean In The Bear?

BOH is an acronym for Back of House and is typically considered to be the sections of a restaurant that are closed off to the public and diners. Back of house is the beating heart of any restaurant and is typically where most of the behind-the-scenes action takes place.

The Kitchen typically acts as the center of the back of the house and is managed by the head chef, who supervises kitchen staff, develops menus, orders ingredients, and handles administrative responsibilities. Fans who have worked in the back of the house of restaurants have noted how well the series conveys the chaotic nature of working in the kitchen as well as the tension and toxic behavior which can often be there.

PSVR 2 User Experience Showcased by Sony

1 year 9 months ago

PSVR 2 user experience

Sony's ready to show interested fans what it's like to use a PSVR 2. A special post on the PlayStation Blog detailed more about the PSVR 2 User Experience. Written by Senior Staff Product Manager Yasuo Takahashi, the post detailed some of the new features of the headset and controllers. These features bring the PSVR 2's capabilities more in line with contemporary high-end VR setups.

For starters, the PSVR 2 user experience now allows for viewing one's surroundings without removing the headset. This "See-Through View" mode is enabled by external cameras mounted on the headset itself. Thus, players can check for their controllers or see if there are obstacles in their way without removing the hardware. Gameplay recording  also does not function when using see-through view. This adds an unlisted benefit: You won't accidentally show audiences the inside of your house if you record a gameplay clip and use the mode to check something.

PSVR 2 users can also record an external view of themselves for broadcast if they have a PS5 HD Camera handy. This allows stream audiences to see you wearing the hardware while still seeing through your viewpoint as you broadcast.

MultiVersus Review

1 year 9 months ago

Few companies have the wealth of recognizable and exciting characters required to create a platform fighter that could rival the likes of Nintendo’s Super Smash Bros. series. With the help of developer Player First Games, Warner Bros. is trying to use the seemingly endless list of movie and TV studios it owns to do just that, bringing together an eclectic roster of fan-favorite characters that somehow includes Harley Quinn, Bugs Bunny, and Shaggy all at once. While the result makes for some gleeful multiplayer chaos, MultiVersus is ambitious in its laser focus on competitive multiplayer too. That’s left some of the more casual aspects undercooked, but its prioritization of 2v2 online matches still makes for a fresh take on an increasingly crowded genre.

Elden Ring, Monster Hunter, and the end of my affair with health bars

1 year 9 months ago

Think FromSoftware and your mind instantly flits to a skeleton doing a forward roll doesn't it? Or an electrified goat that rolls. Or a bald man cackling as he kicks you down a hole. And, of course, the tricky boss fights with deformed dragons and Fell Omens from the West Country.

Since I've been playing Monster Hunter Rise, which is largely a succession of ever escalating boss fights with big lizards, I've begun comparing these scuffles with Elden Ring's boss battles. And I reckon much of their differences come down to the simple health bar, or lack of it.

Report: Grand Theft Auto 6 Co-Stars A Female Protagonist, Rockstar Adopts More Progressive Studio Culture

1 year 9 months ago

Bloomberg posted a new report about Grand Theft Auto 6's development, based on sources close to or within Rockstar Games. The details discuss how a revamped and improved studio culture has influenced the game's design, including its playable protagonists, writing, and tone.

GTA 6, which Rockstar confirmed was in active development in February, will reportedly star two playable bank robbers in a Bonnie and Clyde-inspired tale, and the female protagonist, a first for the series, will be Latina. The game is set in a modern-day, fictionalized Miami and its surrounding areas, which signals a return to Vice City. Despite being set in a single city, the game is said to already have more interior locations than any GTA game. Still, the studio plans to regularly update GTA 6 over time to add more missions and even cities. Bloomberg reports that GTA 6 may arrive sometime before March 2024. However, sources tell the publication that some developers within Rockstar are skeptical that the game will hit that timeframe.

PlayStation Plus Games for August 2022 Announced

1 year 9 months ago

Sony has revealed the PlayStation Plus games for August 2022 are Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2, and Little Nightmares. Revealed on the PlayStation Blog, all three games will be made available at no extra cost to all PlayStation Plus subscribers on August 2.

Yakuza: Like a Dragon is another entry in the increasingly wacky, action-heavy Yakuza series in which protagonist Ichiban Kasuga attempts to rise through his crime organisation from zero to hero. Like a Dragon marked the entry of a new era for the franchise as it introduced turn-based combat for the first time, a mechanic that will be continued in recently confirmed sequel Yakuza 8.

In our 7/10 review, IGN said: "Yakuza: Like a Dragon takes some bold steps in a new direction for the series but neglects to maintain its balance."

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2 is the remaster of the original (and arguably the best) Tony Hawk skateboarding games, featuring all the fast-paced, high-scoring sports action that fans expected from a remake.

Despite not appearing on the left side, the press release also mentioned Sinnoh's mythical Pokemon Shaymin.

It also provided Pokemon designs for Air Do's flights in the northernmost Hokkaido prefecture and Skymark's flights to Okinawa and Fukuoka in southern Japan. On the Flying Pikachu website, the company also teased plans to bring Pokemon jets to more countries and regions around the world.

Scathe Hands-On Preview: DOOM-ing the Forces of Hell

1 year 9 months ago

Hey, have you heard of a game where you play a super soldier that goes to Hell to kill everything that moves? One that involves swapping exotic weapons to deal with the ever-changing challenges that a persistent horde of twisted fleshy mutant hellions provide? Well, Scathe isn’t Doom exactly. It tries its best, but very much lacks the hand-crafted gun puzzle arenas and air-tight weapon balancing that turned first-person demon-slaying on its head for at least the past seven-ish years. But what it lacks in polish, momentum, and wit it replaces with some interesting but obtuse dungeon crawling and maybe its biggest standout feature - co-op.

It may not be completely fair to compare Scathe so directly to Doom. From a distance, the similarities are obvious, but a couple of minutes with Scathe and it was clear that I was playing a game with an entirely different approach to the more famous first-person Hell shooter. Whereas id’s signature game is designed around you being an unstoppable force in perpetual forward motion, Damage State’s take requires a more staid hand, as it’s the enemies that were running me down. They spawn aggressively, with ranged attackers filling the zone with projectiles akin to a bullet hell shooter like Ikaruga or Cuphead, and melee troops charging directly at me or ambushing me from behind or around corners.

Dave Gilbert on branching out to gothic horror, and why voice-acting is his "favourite thing in the world"

1 year 9 months ago

When I sat down to talk to Wadjet Eye founder Dave Gilbert last week, he was in the middle of trying to sum up The Excavation Of Hob's Barrow, a new point and click adventure from Cloak And Dagger Games that his studio will be publishing later this year. "Usually, by the time a game comes out, I've compressed it to one sexy sound bite. I haven't done that with Hob's Barrow yet," he says. "Basically, Victorian gothic horror story. That's the best way to describe it."

Originally announced as Incantamentum (Gilbert jokes that one of the reasons behind the name change is because he could never pronounce "Incantamentum" correctly), Wadjet Eye got involved after Gilbert played the Steam demo last year and emailed the developer. "I said, 'Hey, I played the demo. I really liked it. Please tell me you're going to be adding voice acting to this because it's screaming for it'," Gilbert tells me. "And he said, 'Well, we will if we can find a publisher who'll do it for us.'" So now Wadjet Eye are publishing, and Gilbert is overseeing the voice recording.

Tower of Fantasy Global Release Date Set for Early August

1 year 9 months ago

Developed by Hotta Games and Level Infinite, Tower of Fantasy is a new shared open-world game that will be free-to-play, with gacha elements. We got to check out the beta earlier this year, and while it does have its rough edges, there’s definitely potential there. The game also finally has an official release date for the global launch, and it’s set for Aug. 11.

Earlier this week, keen-eyed fans noticed that there was some Morse code hidden in a tweet sent out from the game’s official Twitter account, which hinted towards the Aug. 11 release date. The developers have since confirmed via press release that that is the case, which means we only have less than two weeks to go before we’ll finally get to check out the official release.

Tower of Fantasy bears quite a few similarities to Genshin Impact at first glance, but there are many key differences in some of its systems, such as a bigger focus on multiplayer activities (this is basically an MMO, after all) and even a more lenient gacha system. The game has also smashed its pre-registration goals, so there will be plenty of goodies to look forward to when it launches.

Tower of Fantasy is set to be released for PC and mobile devices on Aug. 11, 2022.
