How One Player's Nier: Automata Gameplay Clip Has Sent the Community on a Wild Treasure Hunt

1 year 8 months ago

Early last month, a new Reddit user named u/sadfutago joined the Nier subreddit to ask what might seem to outsiders a fairly innocuous question: "How do you open the church?"

Their post was short and to the point, explaining that they were new to Reddit and wanted to know how to open the church in Nier: Automata, which they elaborated on in replies to mean "the place in the underground copied city where you fight the boss adam." They explained that while they can open the door, their friend who was at the same part of the game could not.

The problem? There is no such church in the Copied City. Or anywhere else in Nier: Automata, to anyone's knowledge. And now, thanks to this one user, the entire community is currently losing its mind trying to solve the mystery behind this location.

At first, community members replying to sadfutago's post thought they might just be confused, or inaccurately describing where they were trying to get to, and asked for screenshots or game clips to get a better idea of what was going on. But over the next month, as sadfutago returned to the subreddit sporadically to drop gameplay evidence of their predicament, it became clear that what they were showing was not a misunderstanding at all. Instead, it appeared to be an entire secret area complete with lore implications and easter eggs that no Nier: Automata player had accessed before.

1 year 8 months ago

The RTX 2060 is the most affordable RTX graphics card, making it your best shout for gaining the hardware to do real-time ray tracing and frame-rate-boosting DLSS without overpaying. This model debuted at £330, got more expensive over time as the worst of the GPU supply shortage hit, and was impossible to find below RRP even after its next-generation successor, the RTX 3060 launched two years later.

Now the RTX 2060 has finally dipped in price, making it an ideal time to pick up what is still a powerful and feature-complete graphics card for 1080p or even 1440p gaming. You can pick up a compact EVGA RTX 2060 SC model for just £212 on Amazon right now, a 52% drop from its peak price and a fair deal for the level of performance on offer.

1 year 8 months ago

It’s finally time to hop in the ring and duke it out as iconic Warner Bros. characters as the MultiVersus beta goes live. After almost two years on the market, Meta is officially increasing the price of its Quest 2 VR headset by $100.

Beginning August 1, the 128GB storage configuration for the Meta Quest 2 will cost $399.99 (previously $299), while the 256GB model will now retail for $499.99. For the time being, the Meta Quest 2 is still available at its current price at numerous retailers (see it at Amazon / Best Buy).

Meta cites inflation as one of the reasons for the price increase writing, "[T]he costs to make and ship our products have been on the rise," Meta said in a recent blog post. "By adjusting the price of Quest 2, we can continue to grow our investment in groundbreaking research and new product development that pushes the VR industry to new heights."

Rebirth of the Dead Brings Zombies to Rebirth Island in Warzone

1 year 8 months ago

A new undead announcement in Call of Duty: Warzone is that zombies will be coming to Rebirth Island. While this isn’t the first time that the shambling undead have entered the Battle Royale. However, the trailer for this announcement shows off that players will be able to play as zombies themselves, which is a fun change.

The trailer’s description hints at this heavily (though the trailer does give just about the whole story) with the fun line of: “What’s worse than being overcome by the horde? Becoming part of it…”

Rebirth of the Dead will be added into Call of Duty: Warzone Mercenaries of Fortune tomorrow, July 27.

You can see the terrifying announcement trailer below. It’s perfect if you’re in the Call of Duty Zombies mood.

In late 2021, Tanita released pedometers that featured 190 idols from The Idolmaster: Cinderella Girls. The title's roster is already larger than all other Idolmaster entries combined, but that still does not stop the company from expanding the product lineup to cover the whole Idolmaster series.

It will also add 19 characters who debuted in the console games, including the original 765 Production members, the 876 Production idols from the 2009 DS game Dearly Stars, and the 2021 PS4 and PC title Starlit Season. A Diablo: Immortal Bug Is Costing Players 'Millions' of XP [Update]

1 year 8 months ago

Update 7/27 12:02 pm PT: Diablo community lead Adam "PezRadar" Fletcher shared on Reddit that the XP issue has been addressed with a hotfix on Monday and that missing XP will be delivered to affected players through their inbox.

Original Story: Diablo: Immortal players have reportedly lost millions of XP through a Battle Pass bug that's persisted despite developer Blizzard issuing a hotfix for the issue.

As reported by PCGamesN, players earlier in July said they weren't receiving XP rewards for progressing the game's Battle Pass, which accumulated into millions of experience points being lost.

Reddit user mdkubit posted that, "after today's reset, I completed bounties and finished a Battle Pass rank. The XP animation played but the XP bar did not increase at all." Another user, Revorne-Rev, said they'd ranked up twice "on the Battle Pass and neither gave XP".

These are two of myriad reports, with players discussing varying degrees of the issue. The Battle Pass appears to be working fine for some, while others it works some of the time, but not at all for some.

Cover Reveal – Skull And Bones

1 year 8 months ago

Skull and Bones was first revealed in 2017. As a major fan of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, I was thrilled to see Ubisoft dive back into piracy, this time with a new IP. At that point, Skull and Bones was a 5v5 multiplayer arena battler where you played solely as the ship. It wasn't exactly the Black Flag follow-up many, including myself, had anticipated, but with Ubisoft Singapore, the studio behind the Assassin's Creed franchise's excellent naval combat, at the helm, I wanted to see more.

After another look at it in 2018, Skull and Bones went dark, and Ubisoft remained mostly silent on the title for years. Then, this month, the publisher announced that it would be re-revealing Skull and Bones on July 7. That return brought with it a brand new look at gameplay and new details about how Skull and Bones was no longer the 5v5 arena game it was when it debuted years ago. Now, it's an expansive live-service game set in an open-world Indian Ocean where your goal is to rise from pirate outcast to kingpin. While we learned a lot that day, I still had questions, and for this cover story, I was able to ask them all (and then some) to key developers such as game director Ryan Barnard and creative director Elisabeth Pellen.

"Do you do Strava?" people often ask upon learning I like cycling. This is not the question they wish to ask. Square Enix's Western studios were a "train wreck in slow motion"

1 year 8 months ago

On May 2, 2022, Stephane D'Astous began receiving emails and phone calls from former employees. The shared tone was a request for advice and perspective: What's happening? Is it a good sign, or should we be worried?

These messages, of course, referred to the shock news that Square Enix had sold Crystal Dynamics, Eidos Montreal and Square Enix Montreal, plus all the IP the trio of studios collectively held, to Embracer Group for a bewilderingly low $300 million.

Even though D'Astous was surprised by the price tag, the Eidos Montreal founder wasn't terribly surprised at how the studios' relationship with Square Enix turned out, saying the roots of its demise were evident even before he left the company in 2013.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3: how Monolith Soft pushes its Switch technology to the next level

1 year 8 months ago

Since its acquisition in 2007, Monolith Soft has become one of Nintendo's most prolific development partners thanks to both its assistance on first-party projects and, more importantly, its work on Xenoblade Chronicles. This large-scale RPG series has become one of Nintendo's key pillars in the RPG space and for good reason - its robust technical underpinnings, gorgeous vistas and strong storbytelling all work in tandem to create something unforgettable and Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is no exception.

With its fresh cast of characters, enhanced technology and outstanding soundtrack, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 builds on the experience the team has acquired since its inception and comprehensively addresses a key weakness of the last series entry: image quality. In targeting higher end visuals, something that to give, with resolution taking a big hit. Dynamic pixel counts that could hit 540p docked and 360p in mobile mode were mitigated via a relatively simple spatial upscaler, paired with intrusive sharpening. Xenoblade 3, however, represents a colossal leap forward in that respect. Monolith has both improved the overall visual quality while greatly boosting image quality, achieving this via what looks like a temporal super-resolution solution, taking those lower pixel counts up to a passable rendition of 1080p when docked and 720p in portable play.
