3 years 3 months ago

Capcom is gearing up to lift the lid on its plans for the Resident Evil franchise moving forward with a new showcase presentation due to air next week, Jan. 21, at 5 PM EST.

The news comes by way of a post from Capcom’s official social media channels, which includes a brief teaser of what’s to come:

Clearly, Village is going to be the focus of the presentation, with its first full gameplay reveal of special interest.

Notably, though, there’s also mention of news pertaining to the wider franchise itself, which might even include something about the much-rumored Resident Evil 4 Remake, which would mark a continuation of the remade classics that started with Resident Evil 2 back in 2019.

If you haven’t yet seen the most recent trailer for Village, which was shown during the Tokyo Game Show 2020, you can check it out here. It showcases some in-engine footage with supporting commentary from the development team.

5 Video Games That Take Place in an Alternate 2021

3 years 3 months ago

So far, 2021 has been… interesting to say the least. It doesn’t feel that much different than last year as we are still living in the hustle and bustle –or lack thereof– of the COVID-19 pandemic in most parts of the world.

While we still don’t know how the rest of the year is going to play out, we have an idea of what the world looks like today in general. This may not be what any of us expected 2021 to look like a few years ago, but what did we expect? More specifically, what did game developers expect 2021 to look like? Well, here are five video games that take place in 2021.

Today Arc System Works released a gallery of new screenshots and information about the upcoming fighting game Guilty Gear – Strive-.

We get to take at the single-player and offline modes starting with the tutorial, which provides the player with the appropriate advice depending on their level while witnessing the interaction between Sol and Ky.

Super Nintendo World Grand Opening Delayed Again Due to COVID-19 Emergency in Japan

3 years 3 months ago

Today Universal Studios Japan announced that it’s delaying the grand opening of Super Nintendo World once again.

The delay is due to the new state of emergency recently declared by the Japanese government to counter the COVID-19 pandemic.

The park was due to open on Thursday, February 4 and there is no new date for when the gates will open to the public.

According to the announcement, the new opening date will be decided and announced after the state of emergency is lifted.

Of course, we’ll keep you posted when further announcements are made.

Super Nintendo World was announced all the way back in 2016 and was supposed to open in time for the 2020 Olympics. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic hindered Nintendo and Universal Studios Japan’s plans causing a considerable delay.

That being said, they could make that deadline, considering that the Tokyo Olympic games have also been delayed to the summer of 2021.

Universal Studios Japan is located in Osaka, the capital city of the Japanese region of Kansai. It can be reached from Tokyo via plane, train, and overnight buses are pretty popular since they’re cheaper (but I wouldn’t personally recommend that grueling experience)

Pokemon GO’s Roselia Community Day Announced for February

3 years 3 months ago

Earlier today, Niantic revealed the featured Pokemon for the February Community Day will be the Grass/Poison-type Roselia. This is the first time since April of last year that a Pokemon from the Hoenn region (Seedot) will be featured on Community Day.

On Feb. 7 from 11 AM to 5 PM local time, Roselia will be appearing more often in the wild along with its shiny variant. Unlike other Community Day events, this will not be the debut of the featured Pokemon’s shiny version.

Also unlike most other Community Day events, this is the first time that the fully evolved form of the featured Pokemon will learn two event-exclusive moves. When you evolve Roselia into Roserade, it will learn the Fast Attack Bullet Seed and the Fire-type Weather Ball as a Charged Attack.

It’s hard to tell exactly what this will do for Roserade in the GO Battle League, but PvPoke simulations seem to show that it’ll stand a chance against three major players in the Ultra League. Swampert, Escavalier, and Melmetal will all now lose to Roserade with the new attacks. The one exception is against Escavalier when both Pokemon have no shields. But Roserade still just barely loses that matchup.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night Gets Classic Mode and Kingdom: Two Crowns Update Tomorrow

3 years 3 months ago

One of the most successful Kickstarter projects in Kickstarter history, Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is getting a major update tomorrow, on Jan. 14. This update is, of course, free and will include the much anticipated Classic Mode, as well as the crossover event with Kingdom: Two Crowns.

Classic Mode should be a thrill for fans of Castlevania, as it adds a retro-looking UI to the game, along with five new bosses for players to try to take down. It’s a clear callback to older games like Symphony of the Night, and should be a treat for series fans.

In addition to that, the update will also include the crossover event with Kingdom: Two Crowns, which will add a new area to Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night itself, and players will have to search for the crown to gain access to it.

HuniePop 2: Double Date Gets Updated Trailer, New Screenshots, & Steam Page

3 years 3 months ago

Fans of the puzzle dating simulator HuniePop have been eagerly waiting for its sequel, HuniePop 2: Double Date, and one more step has been made toward release.

The developer has opened the official Steam page for the game, which is still on track for a release before Valentine’s Day.

If you’re unfamiliar with the HuniePop franchise, the first game launched on Steam back in 2015 as a hybrid between a puzzle game, a visual novel, and a dating sim. Despite its rather alluring nature, it drew a lot of attention for its solid puzzle mechanics and the beautiful artwork.

As a result, it still has “overwhelmingly positive” user reviews on Steam.

You can check out the updated trailer (with the addition of voice-overs and more compared to the previous gameplay trailer) and the screenshots below, alongside an official feature list.

Gran Saga Celebrates Release Date With Catchy Music Video as Pre-Registrations Approach 5 Million

3 years 3 months ago

Today Npixel released another trailer of its upcoming MMORPG Gran Saga.

This time around we get a catchy music video focusing on the upcoming release date, which is January 26 for PC and mobile platforms, for now only in South Korea.

In the meanwhile the game is speeding toward the goal of achieving five million pre-registrations, which is a rather clear indication of the anticipation surrounding it. At the moment, we are at 4.83 million.

The 5,000,000 pre-registration reward should be in reach, offering a Grand Weapon SSR ticket. This should also tell you that gacha is most definitely involved.

If you’re unfamiliar with the game, it’s a cross-platform MMORPG that will launch on both PC and mobile.

The development team includes staff that previously worked on Seven Knights. There is a lot more than fighting to the game, including plenty of minigames, as showcased by the videos.

Incidentally, Npixel isn’t working just on Gran Saga, as they also recently announced the equally-impressive Chrono Odyssey, even if the visual style is entirely different.

Incredible Twitter Thread Mashes Up Katy Perry Outfits With Pokemon Ahead of Collaboration

3 years 3 months ago

Pokemon’s 25th anniversary occurs this year and The Pokemon Company has plans… we don’t really know what those plans are exactly yet other than releasing a really cute video, but other cool announcements related to games will probably go down at some point this year.

One thing we do know about, though, is that there’s going to be a Pokemon-Katy Perry collaboration where she will participate in creating music to celebrate the anniversary. If you like Katy Perry then it’s probably pretty sweet news!

Personally I’m not a pop guy so it doesn’t really do much for me, but, it doesn’t mean I can’t appreciate Katy Perry’s wild outfits over the years and Twitter user ELA’s (streamer & UX designer at Ubisoft) fantastic attempt to match her outfits with Pokemon.

The mashups are so great that it honestly has me questioning if Katy Perry intended them to be inspired by Pokemon.

Like I don’t know much about her, is this a thing that she did to pay homage to Pokemon? Either way I love it, check out the whole Twitter thread by clicking here or into Twitter down below.

Ranked Play Is Still Coming to CoD: Black Ops Cold War

3 years 3 months ago

Treyarch has confirmed that Ranked Play will still be coming to Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, although the studio is not prepared to say when quite yet.

In a question on Reddit, user u/The_Wxly7 posted a tweet conversation alongside the question: “So is ranked mode still going to be a thing? After completing camos I would like something meaningful to grind now.”

Treyarch employee FoxhoundFPS replied, saying, “Yes. Ranked Play will be a thing. I currently don’t have a timetable to share with you, however.”

While this doesn’t tell us much that we didn’t already know, it allows hardcore Black Ops Cold War fans to continue to be excited about the ranked mode, safe in the knowledge that it’s still coming.

Now that the game has been out for a few months, a lot of players will have completed most of the challenges and unlocked a lot of the camo options, as the Reddit user above has, and they’ll be looking for another way to test themselves.

Just as it is in other multiplayer focused games, it’ll have the same effect in Cold War, once it’s released. Hopefully it’ll be released in the coming weeks or months, and not too close to the inevitable new Call of Duty game later in the year.

As soon as we get updates from Treyarch, we’ll be sure to update you about the situation.

New Warzone Update Released to Fix Infinite Stim Glitch & Further Nerf DMR

3 years 3 months ago

Raven has finally revealed that a settings update has been released in Warzone today that aims to fix two issues that have made the battle royale almost unplayable this week.

First of all, the infamous infinite stim glitch has been fixed once more, so players won’t be able to sit in the gas forever to get free wins. As the patch notes read: “player no longer gets infinite tactical equipment (Stim) when dropping their weapons while cooking a grenade.”

The Warzone update will also introduce some further weapon balance changes, following those that proved ineffective last week. The DMR is the main focus of the changes, seeing its “bullet penetration reduced from sniper to AR,” it range damage reduced, and its recoil increased. Below you can see all of the changes that have been made to the DMR.

  • Bullet penetration reduced from sniper to AR.
  • Damage falloff ranges decreased (55 damage before / 48 damage after 750 units (down 70% from 2500 units))
  • Recoil increased: Increased moderately for second and third bullet, increased slightly for subsequent bullets.
  • Locational damage multipliers adjusted – Headshot now does less than 100 damage after 750 units. Lower torso reduced from 1.1 to 1.01 (~8%).
  • Front Grip: Vertical recoil reduction removed & horizontal recoil reduction increased from 20% to 30%
  • Field Agent Foregrip: Vertical recoil reduction decreased from 35% to 25% & horizontal recoil reduction increased from 35% to 30%

The Type 63 tactical rifle, which wasn’t used as frequently but suffered from the same issues, has received identical changes.

EA Comments on Star Wars After Reveal of Ubisoft Open-World Game: “We’re Making More Star Wars Games”

3 years 3 months ago

Today it was confirmed that Ubisoft is working on a new open-world game set in the Star Wars game universe. If you’re wondering how that can be possible, it’s because the ten year exclusive partnership between EA and Disney/LucasArts for Star Wars games is coming to a close.

EA, clearly not oblivious to the discussion surrounding this transition, made a comment today on Twitter stressing that they are still fans of Star Wars and that just because the exclusivity has ended, it doesn’t mean they are done with the franchise.

EA has had an up and down history with the IP while it was exclusive to their studios.

The low points were without a doubt the cancellation of the promising-looking Star Wars 1313 and the loot box controversy that soured the launch of Star Wars Battlefront 2.

Pokemon Company Is Reprinting Classic TCG Cards to Celebrate 25th Anniversary

3 years 3 months ago

As part of the first round of 25th anniversary teases, the Pokemon Company revealed that reprints of various classic TCG cards will be released throughout 2021.

The reprint, which will focus on the starter Pokemon for each region and generation, will feature 25 cards and will be released one region at a time.

As for the cards themselves, they will be ‘oversized’ replicas of the original cards, each with the 25th anniversary symbol on them.

Unlike the likes of Evolutions, which reprinted the 1999 base set a few years ago, the new cards will feature the same artwork as the originals, aside from the promo symbol. The only difference will be the removal of the original Wizards of the Coast copyright information, since they no longer print Pokemon TCG products.

Little Nightmares 2’s Cinematic Gameplay Looks Terrifying in New Trailer

3 years 3 months ago

Little Nightmares 2’s latest trailer is a reminder that it’s absolutely one of the year’s early prospects. Boasting an even sharper level of production than its predecessor, the cinematic presentation of its gameplay and some all-new mechanics looks thoroughly.

That’s a sentiment we’ve held here for a while at Twinfinite ever since our preview of the game back in November of last year. Staff writer Andrew McMahon had plenty of positive things to say about its inventive new gameplay features:

“There were at least three different instances of true shock in the demo alone that happened to me while playing. The game is more than jump scares, using its gameplay, setting, and situations to instill a feeling of genuine fear amidst its puzzle-solving elements.”

If you’re curious to check out Little Nightmare 2 ahead of its launch then you can already download the very same demo as we played for our preview on PS4 and Xbox One.

Otherwise, be sure to keep an eye out for the upcoming puzzle-platformer horror adventure game when it releases in just a month’s time on current and next-gen consoles and PC on Feb. 11, 2021.

Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Overview Trailer Details New Features & Amiibo Figures

3 years 3 months ago

After a brief trailer and the announcement of a Mario-themed Switch yesterday, Nintendo has today shone an even brighter spotlight on its upcoming remaster Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury, which features both the original Wii U game and an entirely new one rolled into a single package.

The overview trailer runs through all the new features set to be included in the game, such as an online multiplayer mode to supplement the local co-op of the original. Indeed, not only is there now the option to play with friends online as a team, but there’s a competitive mode as well. You’ll need a Switch Online membership to take advantage, of course.

Elsewhere, the creatives out there can look forward to a photo mode called Snapshot Mode, which actually looks pretty robust with all sorts of filters and stickers to enhance your pictures.

As for Bowser’s Fury, we learn that it’s a cat-tastic new adventure in which Mario travels to feline-inspired Lake Lapcat as he takes on the nefarious Fury Bowser. Helping his mission is a new mechanic that allows Mario to turn into a cat himself thanks to the mysterious Gigabell. Check it out below.

Pokemon Teams up With Katy Perry To Tease 25th Anniversary Announcements

3 years 3 months ago

The Pokemon Company kicked off the franchise’s anniversary this morning with a “25 years of memories” video and a surprise collaboration with pop singer Katy Perry.

The celebration video walks us down memory lane in the style of a Rube Goldberg Machine. A Poke Ball travels through many contraptions, showing us how the franchise has grown over the past quarter of a century.

We see the Poke Ball roll by every aspect of the franchise: video games, TCG, anime, merchandise, Pokemon GO, and more. There are several appearances from popular Pokemon, especially Pikachu, with every generation represented.

The end of the video reveals the collaboration with Katy Perry, who will be creating music to celebrate Pokemon’s 25th anniversary.

Other collaborations with Pokemon this year will include Build-a-Bear, Levi’s, McDonalds, General Mills, Jawards, Scholastic, Mattel, Funko, PowerA and The Wand Company (thank you to Serebii for this information).

The Pokemon 25th Anniversary celebration website teases that there will be plenty to look forward to throughout the year when it comes to the video games, anime, and merchandise. They tease that big announcements are to come.

The celebrations begin by revisiting Pokemon regions of the past, starting with the most recent region, Galar. The Pokemon Twitter invites trainers to share their memories from this region.

As for specific announcements regarding upcoming games and more, we’ll have to stay tuned.

You can watch the “25 years of memories” video below, and be sure to check back with Twinfinite when more is announced.

Lucasfilms Announces Open-World Star Wars Game To Be Developed by Ubisoft

3 years 3 months ago

Following yesterday’s news that LucasFilms is partnering with Bethesda to make an Indiana Jones, the production company has today told Wired it will also join forces with Ubisoft to create an open-world Star Wars game.

The deal marks an end to EA Games’ exclusive rights to Star Wars as a video game IP, which has seen just four Star Wars games released in over eight years and several canceled.

Sean Shoptaw, senior vice president of Global Games and Interactive Experiences at Disney, said in a statement:

“EA has been and will continue to be a very strategic and important partner for us now and going forward… But we did feel like there’s room for others.”

Still, it’s likely we won’t see Ubisoft’s first effort for quite some time. The project is still in the very early stages of development. Indeed, Ubisoft Massive, the studio charged with its production, is still recruiting its team.

Details are thin in terms of what we can expect from a gameplay standpoint, but we do know that Julian Gerighty, director of The Division 2 and The Crew, is heading the new project. Also, that it will use Massive’s Snowdrop Engine, which powers The Division games, as well other titles like Starlink: Battle for Atlas.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot weighed in with his own statement:

Here’s How Big Cyberpunk 2077’s Map Is (Measured)

3 years 3 months ago

In Cyberpunk 2077, Night City is CD Projekt Red’s harrowing vision of a dystopian city ruled by corporate overlords. Gangs, thugs, and corrupt police walk its dingy streets, while the rich travel to and from luxury sky-high apartments in flying cars. As a place to live, it’s frightening, but as a sandbox for video game players to explore, it’s a bizarre but breathtaking spectacle.

In fact, it’s arguably the star of the show (when it’s working properly, that is), impressing us with its multi-layered design and honeycomb of streets and overhead walkways.

But just how big is this dense urban area compared with other open-world games? And how much more playable area does the surrounding badlands offer for players to race across in search of goons and side gigs to earn eddies?

Well, as has become standard practice at Twinfinite whenever a big open-world game launches, I’ve spent a bit of time measuring the map as best I can to offer a size estimation.

Fortnite Season 5’s Secret Battle Pass Skin Is Predator

3 years 3 months ago

Following today’s v15.20 update to Fortnite, dataminers have been able to confirm that the secret Battle Pass skin to follow in the footsteps of past seasons’ Deadpool and Wolverine will be Predator.

The rather terrifying, dreadlock-donning alien will be the secret, unlockable battle pass skin for the current season, and players will have to complete a series of challenges to unlock it. Before unlocking the actual skin, however, players will unlock a variety of different Predator-themed cosmetics, which can now be unlocked following today’s update, and can be viewed in the game’s ‘Mystery Rewards’ tab on the Battle Pass screen.

The ‘Jungle Hunter’ quests will initially see players unlock a Predator Banner Icon, Plasma Caster Reticle, and ‘Heat Vision Hunter’ Spray which can all be seen in the tweet from iFireMonkey below.

Fortnite 15.20 Update Adds Hop Rock Dualies, Lever Action Shotgun & New Cosmetics

3 years 3 months ago

Fortnite’s 15.20 update is currently being rolled out, with the game’s servers going down for maintenance in the meantime. Thanks to the usual bunch of dataminers on Twitter, though, we know the patch will introduce a couple of new weapons and a whole host of new cosmetics.

The most notable additions are the Hop Rock Dualies. Courtesy of GuilleGAG over on Twitter, we already know the pistols will deal 43 damage to players and use the medium-size ammo type. Reload time will come in at 2.7 seconds and they’ll have a combined clip size of 18 rounds.

In addition to these, Fortnite’s 15.20 update will also introduce the Lever Action Shotgun. This is a pump-action shotgun that deals high damage at a moderate fire rate. It’s only really effective at short range, however, and has a limited magazine size. It’ll come in all five rarity types in the game from Common to Legendary.

Treyarch’s Teasing a New Black Ops Cold War Zombies Map

3 years 3 months ago

Treyarch appears to be teasing the first DLC drop for Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War’s Zombies mode with a mysterious message and image on Twitter.

The tweet, found below, states “Projekt Endstation was only the beginning.” and is accompanied by an image seemingly showcasing an aerial view of ‘Omega Outpost 25.’

Scrawled on the image reads “M. This is the place I spoke of, Omega Outpost 25,” and “Omega Portal Chamber. This is where the portal is maintained to the Dark Aether.”

Currently, that’s all we know about the map, but according to the final bit of handwriting on the image, we’ll find out “more soon.” Chances are we’ll get a handful more teasers before we get an official release date for the new Cold War Zombies map.
