Apex Legends Has Brought Back King’s Canyon and Mirage Voyage

3 years 3 months ago

As of today King’s Canyon is back in the map rotation for Apex Legends with one key difference– Mirage Voyage has arrived in the Canyon. Mirage’s ship has taken up residence in the hole where Skull Town used to be, right between Octane’s Gauntlet and Salvage.

There are no ziplines onto or off of the ship this time around, instead you will have to enter on your initial jump or by redeploying. In order to get off of the ship there are some conveniently placed redeploy pads near the front and back. While on the Voyage you can also find and listen to a message from Mirage’s mom on the ship.

There is another ship flying around King’s Canyon, in addition to Mirage Voyage, being on King’s Canyon there is also another ship flying around, though you cannot land on this one.

This large ship is advertising the news that Salvo is joining the Syndicate. This is not the first time that Salvo and the Syndicate have been mentioned together.

Those who have completed the comic collection for Season 7 may remember that both Salvo and the Syndicate were mentioned together in comic 5.

The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬ Game for PS4 & Switch Gets New Screenshots & Details

3 years 3 months ago

Today Mages released a new batch of screenshots and details from the upcoming The Quintessential Quintuplets ∬: Natsu Omoide Mo Go-Tobun game.

We learn that the player will be able to decide a schedule for the titular quintuplets juggling study, food gathering, free action, and rest.

If you run out of food (which is quite possible since the game is set on an island), you won’t be able to cook, while getting sick will cause academic ability to decline.

Cooking food from available ingredients will restore some parameters depending on the quality of the dish.

As parameters change, they can trigger a variety of events. At the end of the two weeks on the island, Futaro will host a test to make sure that the quintuplets’ academic skills haven’t declined. After that, character-dedicated routes will start.

There are seven character routes and 14 different endings.

Final Fantasy XIV 14-Hour Livestream in February Postponed Due to COVID; News Reveal Is Still Coming

3 years 3 months ago

Today Square Enix announced that the 14-hour livestream dedicated to Final Fantasy XIV planned for February 6 has been postponed.

The reason given is the state of emergency declared by the Japanese government due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Square Enix has opted to hold the livestream at a later date when everyone can enjoy it with peace of mind.

The 62nd Letter from the Producer Live broadcast which was scheduled to be included in the livestream will still happen.

It’s still going to be a big day for Final Fantasy XIV fans, as the news presentation planned for the same day will also be hosted regularly.

Easy speculation from the fans (and yours truly) indicates that we may hear about the new expansion that should come around the summer.

In the meanwhile, players are enjoying the completion of the Ishgardian Restoration and its rewards thanks to the latest 5.41 update.

If I was a betting man, my money would be on Ishgard’s housing wards being included in the rumored expansion mentioned above. It’d likely be an rather safe bet.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PlayStation 4 and PC and Square Enix recently announced that it has passed 20 million players.

A Way Out Has Sold Almost 3.5 Million Units, Says Josef Fares

3 years 3 months ago

Josef Fares is one of the games industry’s most colorful personalities, fondly remembered for his hilarious speech at The Game Awards 2018 in particular. But he’s also highly regarded as a talented filmmaker and video game director, having led the team’s behind Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out.

Today, in a candid interview with IGN, Fares spoke about the success of the latter, revealing its impressive sales figures.

According to Fares, A Way Out has sold almost 3.5 million units, which in turn could mean that around 7 million have played the game given that it requires two players to complete:

“When I believe in something, nothing can stop me. Obviously, no one believed in [A Way Out] – not even EA thought it would sell, but they still believed in me. I didn’t care. I was like, ‘This is going to happen.’ Now, we’ve sold almost 3.5 million units of that game. These numbers for a small team of 30, 35 people are madness, you know? And at 3.5 million units sold, that means that, I don’t know, almost seven million people played this game, which is crazy.”

That would mean A Way Out has sold nearly 1.5 million units since August of 2019 when we had our last official update.

Later in the interview, Fares discusses his vision for his next project, which he describes as being markedly different from A Way Out:

As is typical, The NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella was on hand to break down the results via Twitter, which kicked off with a look at the overall market.

“December 2020 consumer spending across video game hardware, content and accessories reached a December record $7.7B, 25 percent higher when compared to a year ago. Full-year spending also set a new record, totaling $56.9B, 27 percent higher than 2019.”

Persona 5 Strikers Brings the Gang Back Together in Musou Style (Hands-on Preview)

Enter Persona 5 Strikers, a spin-off title which blends the style, characters and story of the lengthy JRPG with the Musou gameplay framework.

Of course, this isn’t the first time a property has been given the Musou treatment, and while some have proven to be great fits for the gameplay style, others have proven middling at best.

Fortunately, we got the chance to check out this new title ahead of its release later this year, diving into the game’s first Jail; basically, its version of Persona 5’s Palaces. After this lengthy play session, we’re happy to report that Strikers is shaping up to be not only one of the better Musou games around but also a fitting sequel to its forebear.

Bungie’s Official Halo Site to Go Offline Permanently in February, Save Your Stats While You Can

3 years 3 months ago

As the original creators and developers of Halo, Bungie hasn’t been involved with the series since breaking off to do their own thing. The official Halo site has been kept online, though, and players could head there to view their stats and progress in the series through the years.

However, with the latest blog post from Bungie, the studio has announced that they will be taking the site down on Feb. 9.

“Almost nine years ago, stats and files from our previous franchise, Halo, stopped getting updated on Bungie.net. Since then, all stats, files, and other data from Halo 2, 3, ODST, and Reach have lived on in remembrance at halo.bungie.net
On February 9, the halo.bungie.net website will be taken offline permanently. Everyone is welcome to save their stats and files, however they can, if they’d like to save anything. Please keep in mind that our News articles, Forums, and Groups were imported into the current version of Bungie.net back in 2013.”

This Week at Bungie

This will certainly mark the studio’s official departure from the Halo series as a whole, as they continue to focus on supporting and updating Destiny 2 as a live service game.

The website will be up till Feb. 9, so players will have until then to record their stats and other achievements and progress listed there while they can.

You Can Now Mod Cyberpunk 2077 & Play Through With a Full Party of Companions

3 years 3 months ago

CD Projekt Red’s Cyberpunk 2077 is meant to be a single-play experience, but if you feel like V’s journey is just a little bit too lonely, or if you’d like a slightly easier romp through Night City, there’s now a mod for that.

Over on Nexus Mods, you can now download a mod and save file that comes with a level 50 male V, who also has the ability to have various companions follow him around while doing quests. The companions are Judy, River, Saul, and Takemura.

Of course, there are some glitches and hiccups that come with the mod. For instance, Saul will always follow you around even when you teleport, while the others won’t. Because of this, the modder recommends that you leave your companions at V’s apartment before teleporting elsewhere.

In addition to that, if you decide that you don’t want them to follow you around any longer, you can do their important side quests to get them to reset. The quests are as follows:

  • Judy: Ex-Factor
  • River: I Fought the Law
  • Saul: Riders on the Storm
  • Takemura: Room 303

Cyberpunk 2077 has a pretty rough launch when it released in December, but CD Projekt Red has since been working to push out patches and fixes to improve the game’s performance across all platforms.

Axiom Verge’s First Content Update Adds Randomizer Mode

3 years 3 months ago

Axiom Verge received its first post-launch content update today, six years after it originally launched for PC and PlayStation 4.

The free content update for the Metroidvania-styled game adds a “Randomizer Mode” used ideally for speedruns. The mode randomizes the ability upgrades the player receives, but will not give an item that will block the player from from progressing further.

“For example, the first item you get in the game really only needs to be able to shoot,” wrote developer Thomas Happ in the announcement blog post. “Without that, you wouldn’t be able to get through the barrier on the right. So the Randomizer knows not to give you, say, a health node.”

The Randomizer Mode will have three options: Beginner, Advanced, and Masochist. Beginner is for players who have at beaten the game and are familiar with the map, while Advanced is for speedrunners who can exploit glitches.

Masochist mode is similar to Advanced, but will assume the player is aiming for a low percent speedrun. According to the developer, “there are exactly four people in the world able to play this mode.”

Happ said his volunteer team of Pozzum, the original mod developer of the mode, and various speedrunners are planning other features for the new mode such as save states and using Twitch viewers to affect gameplay.

The Randomizer Mode is only available in beta for Steam and Epic Games Store on PC, but will be released for consoles for free when it is ready.

Latest Destiny 2 TWAB Details Reprised Dreaming City & Moon Gear, Stasis Nerfs, Updated Vendor Progression, & More

3 years 3 months ago

The first 2021 TWAB is a doozy as it wades right into some controversial waters, and hits on a few big topics in Destiny 2 right now.

The last few weeks since Bungie went dark for the holidays has seen lots of players discontent with aspects of Destiny 2, particularly when it comes to sunsetting and the lack of weapons as we approach another season where more weapons will be removed; but also the current dominance of Stasis in PvP.

This latest TWAB does begin to address a those issues and more. Let’s start with the reprisal of some equipment from the Moon and The Dreaming City.

The armor sets will be reprised and will drop with high stat rolls in both the Shattered Throne and Pit of Heresy respectively.

Also, four weapons from each of those destinations will be added to the drop pool:

  • Dreaming City: Waking Vigil, Sleepless, Vouchsafe, and Retold Tale.
  • Premonition (Pit of Heresy only), Heretic, Blasphemer, and Apostate.

These weapons can drop in Pit of Heresy and when they do, they can roll with perks that cannot be found anywhere else. Finally a reason to do Shattered Throne.

However, the masterworked Dreambane armor is out for Pit of Heresy and instead is being replaced with an armor piece that drops with 7 armor energy and is guaranteed to drop with at least a +16 in two different stats with higher stats overall. Shard farmers will be upset, but at least it’s a better chance at decent armor. Also: finally a reason to do Shattered Throne.

It’s a bit perplexing why Bungie stopped short with just four weapons each, but let’s move on.

Vendors are getting a big shake up. Each vendor will now have a season pass like system where ranks will earn you set rewards as you progress. Check out what it looks like below:

Valve released its 2020 report detailing the past year for its Steam platform, revealing figures such as player numbers, virtual reality game sales, and more.

Latest Xbox Free Play Days Includes Star Wars Squadrons, Dragon Ball FighterZ, & Yooka-Laylee

3 years 3 months ago

Occasionally Xbox will tee up a Free Play Days event where players can play a select set of games for free, while also occasionally having the option to buy them at a steep discount. Well, that’s going on starting (looks down at watch) actually right now.

The latest Xbox Free Play Days, as you can tell from the title, will include the flying action game Star Wars Squadrons, DBZ fighter Dragon Ball FighterZ, and 3D collect-a-thon Yooka Laylee.

Starting now and running until Sunday, Jan. 17 at 11:59 p.m. PST, you can play any of those games for free.

Personally I love collect-a-thons so if I didn’t already play through Yooka-Laylee I’d be all over that. But the other two games are great too. Although Star Wars Squadrons, if you have a PS4, is particularly great on VR as well.

While Dragon Ball FighterZ is currently still full price, Star Wars Squadrons is 40% off at $23.99 and Yooka-Laylee is 75% off at $9.99, not too shabby.

Each game should be playable on Xbox One, Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X. You can check them out here.

3 years 3 months ago

Today Xseed Games shared many screenshots and details of its upcoming farming game Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.

First of all, we hear about some of the features that we can expect in the game.

This includes character customization, outfits, pets, and even babies.

“Farmers can create a look of their own by visiting Olive Town’s beauty salon, changing up everything from their hairstyle to facial features or skin color. To accompany their new makeover, players can change their character’s outfit to fit the season, bundling up for the winter or donning a breezy hat for long summer days. This customization extends to players’ farms, giving them the ability to upgrade from a tent pitched in the wilderness to a grand house where they can relax in comfort at the end of a long day’s work.

Once players have established their home, they can start building a family. All players can raise pets such as dogs or cats, building a relationship of trust and even bringing them into Olive Town to participate in the annual Pet Derby. And getting to the derby is easier than ever with new transportation options including motorcycles and friendly wolf mounts! Players who find love in Olive Town can have their partner move in with them and eventually raise a child together.”

3 years 3 months ago

Today Muv-Luv publisher aNCHOR released a brand new bundle on Steam.

The bundle, simply titled “Megaverse” includes all four published games (some of which are compilations, so it’s actually more than four) on Steam saving 15% on the price of the titles purchased separately.

On top of that, those who already purchased some of them can still complete the bundle and access the permanent discount on the remaining purchases.

The bundle is an expanded version of the previous “Triple Threat” bundle with the addition of the recently-released and excellent Muv-Luv Photonmelodies.

Besides Photonmelodies, it includes Muv-Luv, Muv-Luv Alternative, and Muv-Luv Photonflowers.

It’s certainly a good way to get yourself up to speed before the release of Muv-Luv Unlimited The Day After, which should appear on Steam with full English localization by the end of the month.

10 Star Wars Games & the Developers That Should Make Them a Reality

3 years 3 months ago

Following the news earlier this week that Lucasfilm Games will be looking to work with developers across the industry to create new and exciting Star Wars games, it got me thinking: just how many Star Wars games will we see? And what will they look like?

My imagination started flowing and I was quickly left with a list of 10 Star Wars games I (and I imagine many other Star Wars fans) would love to see, and the developers that would be perfect to make them a reality. You’re welcome developers and Lucasfilm Games, you can drop me an email for the PayPal details!

I should probably point out now, some of these are far, far more realistic than others. But hey, it’s fun to dream, right?

Ubisoft’s Riders Republic Delayed Until “Later This Year”

3 years 3 months ago

Today, Ubisoft announced that their multiplayer extreme sports game, Riders Republic, has been delayed until later in 2021.

Initially revealed back in September as part of the publisher’s annual E3 conference (which actually had nothing to do with E3 this year), Riders Republic features mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, wingsuit flying, and rocket wingsuiting.

Up to 50 players will be able to race against one another in a variety of event types and explore the world together. However, everyone will now have to wait longer until they’re able to.

In the statement posted on Twitter, Ubisoft said “Today, we want to let you know that we have made the decision to move our release to later this year. This additional time will allow our passionate team to deliver the best fun filled experience to our players.” You can read the full statement down below.

New Zombies Map Announced Early for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War

3 years 3 months ago

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has had its fair share of criticism since its release last year, but the one thing that has been universally praised about the game is the outstanding Zombies mode.

Zombies modes have been a staple of Treyarch’s Call of Duty games since 2008’s World at War, and had their ups and downs in popularity.

Cold War has gone to great lengths to update the gameplay and add a slew of new features, massively expanding the fanbase for the mode. The only issue has been that players were stuck playing the same map since November.

Firebase Z Zombies Map

Treyarch had previously said there would be no new map until Season 2, but today they surprised the community by announcing that the long-rumored Firebase Z is coming in just two weeks. The details on the map are scarce at the moment, but here’s what we know straight from Treyarch:

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition – It’s Dangerous to Go Alone

3 years 3 months ago

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition Review on PlayStation 4

The world has changed a lot since the Scott Pilgrim vs. The World comic series first released, but it continues to hold a certain charm even today, flaws and all.

The same can be said of Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game – Complete Edition: While still rough in certain areas, it polishes up an enjoyable, retro-style title made all the better with some friends along for the ride.

Based on the events of the comics, the game is a straight-forward side-scrolling beat-em-up with RPG elements. Each level sees Scott and his friends tasked with taking down one of Ramona Flowers’ Seven Evil Ex’s, and the rag-tag group has to fight and scrape their way through hoards of eccentric enemies to do so.

The more enemies they defeat, the more experience they’ll gain, allowing them to level up and learn new techniques. These range from new attacks that allow players to damage enemies continuously or blast through mobs with ease, to skills like an aerial recovery which can make the combat infinitely less stressful.

The majority of the gameplay isn’t anything that’s overly complex, but that plays to the title’s favor.

Almost anyone can get the hang of punching, throwing and jumping within minutes, and so long as they have a friend along for the ride, they’ll be able to make their way through the game’s fast-paced story mode with ease. Which is an important point to touch on.
