Echoes of The Atlas Revealed as Path of Exile’s Most Ambitious Expansion

3 years 3 months ago

Grinding Gear Games went all out today, with a livestream unveil of the previously delayed expansion to their flagship game. Echoes of The Atlas is an absolutely massive addition to an already incredibly deep title.

The Atlas is the map for Path of Exile’s endgame, and as the title implies, Echoes of The Atlas will be heavily focused on that. All too often, loot-based games like these tend to center their new content around attracting new players (much to the dismay of the veterans in the community) it’s great to see Grinding Gear Games focus their efforts directly on the longtime players.

Echoes of the Atlas will launch with a myriad of new features, including incredibly difficult multi-boss encounters, 11 new maps, and a full rebalancing of every Ascendancy class in the game.

5 New Year’s Resolutions for Microsoft to Keep in 2021

3 years 3 months ago

Microsoft found itself in a strange place during the Xbox One generation. Who could forget the disastrous reveal which led to its slow start? Since then, Xbox has gone through transitions, first-party studio shakeups, and journeys into new endeavors.

Despite a strong turnaround near the end of the generation, there are still understandable concerns with the first-party output. In 2019, Xbox released only two first-party titles. 2020 saw a considerable increase, but the high-quality AAA gaming experiences that people have come to expect from Sony and Nintendo was sorely lacking on the Xbox One.

That said, Xbox has made tremendous milestones in several areas outside of the first-party lineup. Namely, Game Pass has become a cornerstone in the Xbox ecosystem.

With a brand-new console, a move into the PC arena, and its reputation making a strong comeback, Microsoft is poised to make a big splash this year. To really keep the momentum snowballing, though, here are five New Year’s resolutions we think Microsoft should make a priority.

Remedy Entertainment Shows Fun Control Infographic of 2020 Stats

3 years 3 months ago

Remedy Entertainment, developer behind the 2019 hit Control has tweeted out an infographic listing off stats of how the game was played in 2020. These stats appear to be across all platforms the game is available on which are PS4, Xbox One, and PC.

Perhaps the most important stat is that Control was beaten in 2020 552,634 times. On top of that, Jesse was taken down by the Hiss 58,910,239 times. Considering this is with the new update that added customizable difficulty options, players still weren’t careful enough or were playing Jesse as a reckless superhero. Full respect for the latter.

As for hiss defeated? A number isn’t given but 59,598,849 Hiss were seized to be temporary allies. We can just chalk that number up as revenge for all the Jesse deaths, plus an extra 600,000 for good measure.

Rip and Tear it up With Fall Guys’ Doom Costumes Next Week

3 years 3 months ago

The costumes available to Fall Guys‘ players continues to grow, and the next batch of outfits are perfect for those who want to rip and tear up the competition.

In a trailer posted to publisher Devolver Digital’s YouTube account on Jan. 7, it was revealed that players would be able to select costumes based on characters from the Doom franchise starting Jan. 12. The costumes currently include series protagonist Doom Guy, the Cyber Demon and the Cacodemon.

The reveal came in the form of a cinematic trailer. In it, the game’s contestants can be seen attempting to make their way through obstacle courses, only for the majority to fall into pits and hazards. One such contestant falls into a pit and leaves the event’s crown behind, only for a contestant dressed in the Doom Guy costume to step into the crown with their foot to a heavy metal riff.

They then turn around to see two other Fall Guys contestants dressed as Doom’s demons, ready for a battle fitting of their costumes’ source material. Unfortunately, it never comes: The Doom Guy contestant trips while trying to get the crown off their foot, stumbling into the other players and taking them all down into a nearby pit.

It’s a fittingly silly blend of the two games, and fans of either series will get a chuckle out of the full teaser trailer. It can be viewed in its entirety down below.

Star Wars Battlefront II Is the Next Free Monthly Game Over on The Epic Game Store

3 years 3 months ago

Epic Games has long offered a free monthly game to entice PC players over to the client, but they’re not typically major AAA titles. January, though, is set to offer a big step up in the form of Star Wars Battlefront II, the popular 2017 multiplayer title from EA Dice.

Star Wars Battlefront II didn’t actually enjoy the best critical reception at launch, mainly because the high-requested story campaign component of the game wasn’t all that robust. It’s a series of disparate stories rather than a big, interconnected plot.

Still, the multiplayer aspect of the game is absolutely terrific. Not only does it expand on everything that was already great in the previous game, but it’s been added two several times over the past three years. The final package is plush with all manner of interesting maps and characters from across the Star Wars universe.

You don’t need to do anything special in order to redeem the game; just log in and add it to your library from this link. Battlefront II isn’t available until Jan. 14. The tactical rogue-lite Crying Suns is available until then if you haven’t yet nabbed it.

Support for Star Wars Battlefront II is now winding down, but there’s a huge amount to dig into if you’ve not played the game before, and the community still thrives. The last major update was The Battle on Scarif update in April of 2020.

For those interested in checking out the mod scene, Twinfinite has listed its favorite here.

Granblue Fantasy Relink’s Next Major Reveal Will Be at The End of 2021; Versus’ Next Character Reveal in March

3 years 3 months ago

Today Granblue Fantasy developer Cygames provided new information about what fans can expect in terms of reveals for Granblue Fantasy Relink and Versus.

The info was shared by director Tetsuya Fukuhara on the official site.

Fukuhara-san mentions that the team working on Granblue Fantasy Relink will focus on development on 2021 ahead of the recently-announced release in 2022.

There will be almost no reveals about the game through the year and the next detailed info disclosure will come at the end of 2021 alongside the beginning of the promotional campaign before the launch.

While this is mostly personal speculation, this tells me that the next big reveal will be at Granblue Fantasy Fes, which is likely to be in December 2021.

On the Granblue Fantasy Versus side, Uno will be released later this month. The next trailer is scheduled to come approximately around January 22.

The part 2 of the battle pass will come in early February, while chapters 46-50 of the main quest will come in late February. The music track for the final boss in episode 50 has been especially composed for the game by Tsutomu Narita. It’ll be an actual song with vocals.

Last, but not least, the fifth character of the second character pass will be revealed during Granblue Fantasy’s 7th-anniversary livestream in early March.

Incidentally, Fukuhara-san expressed satisfaction for the success of the game, also mentioning that thanks to the ongoing nature of fighting game, there are still many shipments.

Top 10 Best Roguelikes of 2020

3 years 3 months ago

The roguelike/roguelite genre has been booming in recent years, and last year was no exception. There were a lot of fantastic roguelike titles released last year and while we would love to showcase them all, this list would be twice as long if we did.

Specifically, we will be leaving out any title released in early access as the full game isn’t fully finished –despite how great it may be in its current state. For the sake of clarity, we will not be distinguishing between the roguelike and roguelite genres as the two have many similarities and overlapping features.

Microsoft Flight Simulator FlyByWire Interview: Modding the A320neo To Achieve Realistic Simulation

3 years 3 months ago

Microsoft Flight Simulator is a great platform, but its default aircraft are unsurprisingly built to be accessible rather than fully realistic.

Flying effectively a completely realistic airliner like the Airbus A320neo would require much more study and experience than in-game tutorials can easily provide, so it’s not surprising that in the default aircraft, many systems are inactive and inoperable in the name of accessibility. This is pretty much an industry standard for flight simulators.

Usually, flight simulator developers rely on third-party add-on developers to provide ultra-realistic (and rather pricey) aircraft geared to fulfill the needs of hardcore simulation enthusiasts, and Microsoft Flight Simulator is no exception.

Luckily, a group of modders dubbed “FlyByWire” founded by Will — also known as “Iceman” — have taken upon themselves the massive task of turning the default Airbus A320neo into a realistic aircraft capable of satisfying dedicated simmers, massively increasing the level of realism. This is how the “A32NX” Mod was born.

Hitman VR Looks Impressive in First Gameplay Showcase

3 years 3 months ago

Developer IO Interactive has today showcased the first gameplay of its upcoming Hitman VR mode, which makes playable the entire trilogy via Sony’s PSVR headset.

The montage highlights a number of iconic levels from the modern Hitman trilogy, as well as one or two of the sandboxes set to be introduced in the upcoming Hitman 3.

While experiencing the action from first-person isn’t strictly new to Hitman given that it was an intricate part of classics like Blood Money, the level of immersion in VR already looks dialled up a notch from today’s footage.

One sequence, for example, highlights the ability to tap on the shoulder of a guard before side-stepping to the other side as he turns around and knocking him out with a punch. Now that’s what I call classic deadly hitman tactics, am I right?

From the brief glimpse we’ve seen today, it certainly looks like VR has the potential to take familiar Hitman mechanics and breathe fresh life into them. And for a series that’s been around for a long time, I suspect the new functionality could very well prove a big incentive for lapsed fans to get involved all over again.

New A-Train Game for Nintendo Switch Gets a Release Date; Will Support English Language

3 years 3 months ago

Artdink announced today that the newest game of the long-running A-Train series has a release date.

The game, titled “A-Ressha Deikou Hajimaru Kankou Keikaku” will launch in Japan on March 12, 2021.

While there is no mention of a western release, it will support English language on top of Japanese, Chinese (traditional and simplified) and Korean.

The price will be 6.980 yen plus taxes.

This game is the celebration of the 35th anniversary of the first A-Train, even if it’s slightly late. The original game was released in December 1985.

For those unfamiliar with the franchise, it’s basically a railway-focused urban development game in which the player focuses on developing public transportation lines.

This new game adds a sightseeing element with a strong focus on tourism. You can fully customize trains, buses, and trucks with colors, lights, pantographs, stickers, and more.

Company management is an important factor, and you both have a scenario mode and a free sandbox mode.

Last, but not least, the character design in this new A-Train is handled by Yuji Himukai, known for the Etrian Odyssey series.

Cyberpunk 2077’s Judy Was Never Planned as a Romance Option for Male V, CDPR Confirms

3 years 3 months ago

Now that Cyberpunk 2077 has been available on PC for a while, modders and dataminers have wasted no time in combing the game’s code for any sort of cut content that might not have made it into the final product. One discovery that YouTuber FredrickFlower has made is that players can apparently romance Judy as V with a male body type and voice tone.

In the base game, Judy is only available as a romance option for female V, but it would appear that the game contains the same voice lines spoken by male V in the romantic scenarios with Judy as well. By modding the game, players would be able to romance her even with a male body type, as demonstrated in the video below.

However, CD Projekt Red has since clarified the situation when speaking with Eurogamer, and stated that they had simply recorded the voice lines in the game with both male and female voice actors to prevent situations where they might miss out on something by mistake.

Nintendo Netflix App Shutting Down on Wii U and 3DS

3 years 3 months ago

There’s some bad news for those enjoying the Nintendo Netflix app on their devices. As Netflix has yet to be introduced to the Nintendo Switch, there will soon be no way to watch the streaming service on any device in the Nintendo family.

While every device is affected by the end of the Nintendo Netflix app, the full list for those curious is: New Nintendo 3DS, New Nintendo 3DS XL, New Nintendo 2DS XL, Nintendo 3DS, Nintendo 3DS XL, Nintendo 2DS, Wii U Deluxe, Wii U Basic.

There is a slight, albeit temporary, silver lining for those who still have the app installed. While the app might have been removed from the eShop at the end of December, the service itself isn’t being shut off until the end of June. It also sounds like anyone with a current Nintendo account can download it, but no new users.

The full statement (located here) regarding closing down the Nintendo Netflix app reads:

The Netflix app was removed from Nintendo eShop on Wii U and Nintendo 3DS Family systems on Dec 31st, 2020. They are no longer available for new users to download. It is possible for existing users to re-download these applications at this time. Service for both applications will be discontinued on June 30th, 2021. Thank you for your support of these applications over the years.

If you’re planning on continuing to use the Nintendo Netflix app until the eventual shutdown, why not start with Twinfinite’s best choices for horror on Netflix?

CDPR Denies “Insider” Allegations Pertaining to Cyberpunk 2077’s Development, Launch, & Future Support

3 years 3 months ago

Developer CD Projet Red has dismissed a lengthy allegation posted on the GameFAQs board last week by an individual claiming to be an employee of the company.

The thread, which has since made its way onto Reddit, makes some very bold claims about the various strategic decision’s made by the studio’s upper management ahead of Cyberpunk 2077’s launch:

“CDPR hurt themselves to keep investors safe and sound. Now devs are hearing plans of a “No Man’s Sky” style comeback due to late June. The first two patches should come out mid-March, despite what’s been said by top execs.

There will be major departures from the studio in the coming months. Dev morale is on an all time down and Sony is roasting our asses due to the gigantic volume of refund requests. There will be a meeting today with Sony execs to figure out a way to compensate players threatening with legal action. Sony Japan is especially furious.”

It goes on to suggest that large areas of the game were cut during development, too, in addition to rambling about other features of the game supposedly missing from the final product.

In all honesty, it reads more like a giant rant from a disgruntled fan as opposed to anything to be taken at all seriously. Still, the thread has gained traction to such an extent that CDPR issued the following response on Twitter:

Outriders’ Free Demo Is a Breath of Fresh Air After the Cyberpunk Fiasco

3 years 3 months ago

Today, developer People Can Fly shared the news that its upcoming third-person looter shooter Outriders would be delayed a couple of months from its Feb. 2 release date to April 1. And before you ask, no, it already confirmed that this was no April fools!

The good news for fans is that they won’t have to wait too much longer to get their hands on at least a small slither of Outriders for themselves. As part of the delay announcement, the developer announced that a free demo would be released on Feb. 25. It offers the chance to “play the first few hours of the game with all four classes — in both single-player and co-op — along with seamless migration of your character and progress to the full game.”

Microsoft Flight Simulator Singapore Airport in The Works by Imaginesim; More Coming Down the Line

3 years 3 months ago

Third-party add-on developer Imaginesim recently released Atlanta airport (KATL) for Microsoft Flight Simulator, but they aren’t stopping there.

A representative of the studio responded today to an inquiry from Twinfinite, confirming that Singapore (WSSS) is already in the works and tentatively slated for a February release.

More airports that Imaginesim has already released for older simulators are also planned, including Barbados (TBPB), Austin (KAUS), New York LaGuardia (KLGA) and Shanghai (ZSPD).

“We are currently working on bringing WSSS Singapore to MSFS, probably for release in February. We’ll also be releasing MSFS versions of our other popular airports – TBPB Barbados, KAUS Austin, KLGA LaGuardia and ZSPD Shanghai.”

Incidentally, keep in mind that the picture above is from the real airport, as no images of the Microsoft Flight Simulator version have been shared yet.

That being said, considering the quality of Atlanta, there are good reasons to be excited about future releases.

Outriders Delayed Until April, But There’s a Free Demo Coming Soon to Hold You Over

3 years 3 months ago

People Can Fly’s upcoming looter-shooter Outriders looks like one of 2021’s early stars, but those looking forward to it will have to wait a little longer for its release. In a social media post today, the developer announced Outriders’ launch date is moving by two months, from its original Feb. 2 to April 1.

Thankfully, as you’ll read in the full message below, there’s a free demo available from late February. Best of all, the demo features save migration, meaning that any progress you make will carry over to the final product — a mechanic we see precious few games implementing these days.

For those not up to speed, Outriders is a 1-3 player co-op shooter set in a dark sci-fi universe. Its story tells the tale of making struggling to survive on the hostile planet Enoch, with players tasked with creating their own “Outrider” to conquer the obstacles standing in their way.

Twinfinite has already played a couple of hours of Outriders during a hands-on preview event last year, and we were thoroughly impressed with the early build.

In fact, our editor in chief, Ed McGlone, concluded:

I Bought a Rare Pokemon Online and I Feel No Shame

3 years 3 months ago

Being a Pokemon Master sure is an exhausting endeavor.

The games and merchandise may be marketed to kids, but make no mistake, this is a lifestyle for grown-ass men and women. Between the competitive battling, unexplained in-game mysteries, and Garbodor just being a tool in general, there’s a myriad of stressors that will make you pull your hair out, and/or pull the hair out of an unfortunate passerby.

Of all of the pressure points, however, none stand quite as tall as the concept of completionism. For more than twenty years, we were instructed to ‘catch ‘em all’ — at least up until Sword and Shield jettisoned the unworthy excess, tasking us instead with the far less marketable ‘catch ‘em some, I guess. Just buy the DLC and go away’.

Hundreds of hours sunk into seeking out that elusive Goomy on a rainy day, or gently coaxing your Golbat to evolve through sheer love (to be boxed thereafter for all eternity). Then, just when you think it couldn’t get any tenser, those damned mythical Pokemon resurface and the fandom is whipped into a frenzy.

Ever since the days of the humble Mew, mythical Pokemon have always been a cut above the rest. The fact that they can’t be obtained through conventional means renders them finite, and if you miss out the first go around, you can never be too sure if and when they’ll ever appear again.

For a few weeks now, Warzone players far and wide have been asking for the weapons in question, the DMR more so than any other, to be nerfed after they took over the battle royale’s weapon meta when they were introduced to the game as part of Cold War Season One in mid-December.

The DMR is capable of downing and enemy in a little as two bullets, resulting in the time-to-kill being significantly lower than it is for any other assault rifle. Just check out the video below to see just how unbeatable it is.

Wingspan’s Switch Port Is Gorgeous to Look at But Tough to Learn

3 years 3 months ago

2020 wasn’t a great year to get into board games — a fact I quickly learned as soon as countries all over the world started going into lockdown. Before I started cooping myself up at home, though, I’d finally experienced the joy of playing board games with friends. One in particular stood out to me: Photosynthesis was a game about planting trees on a board and attempting to get as much sunlight as possible. It was also one of the prettiest and most vibrant tabletop games I’d ever seen.

Koei Tecmo Cracks Down on Sale of Illegal Videos Made With Modded Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation

3 years 3 months ago

The release of Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation on PC opened all sorts of modding opportunities, but Koei Tecmo isn’t too happy about certain uses of its intellectual property.

Today the company published a press release announcing that it has taken notice of the sale of DVD made by shooting videos of Dead or Alive Games. As such, it has started legal action against an individual via the Kanagawa Prefectural Police department.

Specifically, the suspect has recorded footage from Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation with modifications like the removal of the (already scarce) clothes, then they sold the footage on DVD on auction sites.

The case has been reported to the Kanagawa Prefectural Police as it was determined that, even if the content is modified, this is copyright infringement.

In addition, since Koei Tecmo judges this as a particularly malicious act, the company is also filing a civil lawsuit for damages on top of the criminal case.

Koei Tecmo argues that the reproductions (including modifications), distribution, and sale of its copyrighted work is prohibited and illegal.

The company is determined to take legal action against such acts. In the future, Koei Tecmo pledges to rigorously respond to copyright infringement while providing games that can satisfy its users at the same time.

This AGDQ 2021 Hades Speedrun Made Me Feel Inadequate All Over Again

3 years 3 months ago

AGDQ 2021 might be an online-only event yet again this year, but that certainly hasn’t stopped viewers from donating massive amounts of money to hit bonus game and donation incentives to keep the event running for longer. Easily one of the most popular incentives for this year’s event was the Hades three-weapon speedrun.

Hades finally got its full release late last year, and as you might expect from a Supergiant game, it’s extremely stylish and polished, featuring an engaging narrative and characters that you can’t help but love. On top of that, it also features fun rogue-lite elements and an incredibly tight combat system. The Hades incentive was met pretty quickly, and speedrunner Vorime presented a hypnotic showcase of just how fast you can blaze through the game with the right setup.

The three-weapon category tasks the runner with beating the game three times in succession, using a different weapon each run. In this case, we got to see the shield, the bow, and the railgun. All of them were equipped with different Aspects to help optimize the run, and Vorime also activated certain modifiers from the Pact of Punishment to help make it go faster.

For instance, the hydra arena was made to be smaller so that Vorime would be able to destroy the heads quicker, and Forced Overtime was also activate to make enemies spawn faster.

With the right setup, you can melt these bosses insanely quickly, and nowhere is that clearer than in the fights against Asterius and Theseus –the major ‘wall’ of the game that stumps new players whenever they first get there. You can check out the run for yourself down below.
