GTA V’s Lamar Roasts Franklin Scene Hits Peak Meme as Actors Reprise their Roles in Real Life

3 years 3 months ago

GTA V has been around for years at this point, and it looks like it’ll continue to stick around for a bit more, especially as the game is about to receive new life and updates with the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S versions. One of the best and most meme-worthy parts of the game occurs early on, when Lamar insults Franklin before walking off.

The entire scene is hilarious from start to finish, from the lyrical way Lamar throws out his insults, to Franklin going, “What?” at the end, raising his arms indignantly. The scene has been recreated multiple times with iconic characters like Spongebob, but we might have hit peak meme this time.

GTA V actors Slink Johnson and Shawn Fonteno reprise their roles as Lamar and Franklin, and completely reenact the scene in its entirety. It’s incredibly accurate to the in-game scene as well, from the way Lamar looks off in the wrong direction at the end of one shot, and is immediately back to facing Franklin in the next cut, all within one sentence.

GTA V was a fantastic open-world game, and continues to be incredibly fun to play even today. It’s now available on PC and consoles.

The free-for-all map also contains “contextual storytelling” and “some Easter eggs and some payoff that’s going to come in Overwatch 2,” according to game director Jeff Kaplan in a developer’s update video last month.

The Kanezaka Challenge event is now live in Overwatch until Jan. 25 for PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.

Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation Offers First Free Chance to Unlock Tsukushi

3 years 3 months ago

Today Koei Tecmo updated Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation with the first chance to unlock Twukushi without spending real money.

While the recently-added and rather geeky young lady joined the cast a few months ago, the free-to-play game relegates new girls to paid-only gachas for several months.

Today fans fan finally enjoy a gacha that doesn’t require paid V-stones and offers the ability to unlock Tsukushi.

That being said, don’t get too enthused by the 3.3% mention you’ll see on the banner if you can’t read Japanese.

The gacha has the usual 1.1% chance to give you one of three SSR outfits (for Tsukushi, Honoka, and Leifang). You’ll unlock the 3.3% chance only every three rolls. If after the third roll you use paid V-stones, you can keep the 3.3%, while using free V-stones, you’ll reset the chance to 1.1%. I guess we should look at the glass half full here.

In the meanwhile, you can check out the new outfits in the trailer below.

Valorant Episode 2 Gameplay Trailer Shows All the New Content in Action

3 years 3 months ago

Valorant’s Episode 2 has just gone live on North American servers, and to celebrate, developer Riot Games has just released a new trailer providing a full overview of everything new.

As we’ve run through already in our feature article earlier this week, it’s the sneaky new Duelist Agent Yoru that has everybody most excited. You’ll see him in action below, but he’s already had the spotlight in a dedicated trailer previously.

Elsewhere, new balancing changes to Agents Omen and Brimstone should make an interesting impact on the game’s meta. It’s also worth mentioning that the update’s patch notes released earlier today also allude to future changes coming for Viper, though nothing has been set in stone.

Other major changes include a complete overhaul to Valorant’s competitive matchmaking, which will now revolve around an all-new points-based system that replaces the confusing arrows of Episode 1. There’s also a leader board coming that’ll be of note to the top 500 players.

Finally, there is, of course, a brand new season of the battle pass that kicks off today, bringing with it three new skin lines among other cool cosmetics. Keep an eye out as you watch the below trailer and you’ll see a number of them showcased.

The Indiana Jones Teaser Suggests We Might Be Exploring Europe’s Ancient Stone Circles

3 years 3 months ago

Today, Bethesda Softworks released a teaser for MachineGames and LucasFilm Games’ upcoming, collaborative project — a new Indiana Jones game.

Revealed on Twitter, the teaser trailer was accompanied by the following :

“A new Indian Jones game with an original story is in development from our studio, MachineGames, and will be executive produced by Todd Howard, in collaboration with LucasFilm Games. It’ll be some time before we have more to reveal, but we’re very excited to share today’s news.”

While Bethesda yet isn’t ready to detail this all-new entry in Indy’s esteemed archaeological career, I’ve spent the past 45 minutes since the trailer dropped pouring over it, trying to piece together exactly what the story will look like.

First things first, it looks like Indiana’s upcoming adventure will take place sometime in 1937, as the date on the plane ticket to Rome suggests.

New Indiana Jones Game Coming from Wolfenstein Developer, Produced by Todd Howard

3 years 3 months ago

Today Lucasfilm Games and Bethesda Softworks announced that a brand new Indiana Jones game is coming.

The game will be developed by MachineGames, which you may know for the Wolfenstein series. On top of that, Todd Howard of The Elder Scrolls fame will act as executive producer.

According to the announcement, the game will tell an original story, which will also be “standalone,” likely meaning that it isn’t linked to any specific movie and won’t require having watched or played the previous installment of the series.

You can find a short teaser in the tweet below and see if it gets you excited for this new Indiana Jones game.

At the moment, no further details have been announced, and we can only hope that the tease won’t be as far away from the actual release (or any more revels) as other Bethesda games like Starfield or The Elder Scrolls VI.

Bungie & Riot Collaborate In Legal Case Against Cheating Software Distributor GatorCheats

3 years 3 months ago

Developers Bungie and Riot Games are taking legal action against a cheating software creators called GatorCheat, whom they believe have made “tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars” selling cheats.

The news comes by way of a report from Polygon earlier this week, which notes that the malicious software for both Destiny 2 and Valorant is being sold at $90USD a month, $250 for three months, or $500 USD for lifetime access.

The lawsuit is actually visible to the public and can be viewed here. A section reads in part:

“The Cheating Software enables players to manipulate Valorant and Destiny 2 to their personal advantage, such as by automatically aiming weapons, revealing the locations of opponents, and allowing the player to see a vast array of information that otherwise would be obscured”.

This isn’t the first time a developer has gone after GatorCheats. Polygon notes that Bungie has previously issued a cease and desist notice to the company, which prompted GatorCheats to vow it would stop selling the software and only support those who had already purchased it.

However, Bungie’s lawyers believe GatorCheats has continued to sell the product through a hidden section of its website.

January 2021 Final Fantasy XI Version Update Adds New Odyssey Battle Content & Equipment

3 years 3 months ago

The latest version update for Final Fantasy XI has arrived and it’s quite significant in comparison to the last few that have dropped.

The update adds a new area to Odyssey called Sheol: Gaol. We’ve known content to Odyssey was on the way, but with the patch notes now revealed and the update out in the wild we have a better idea of what the event will look like.

First, you’ll have to have completed the Records of Eminience objectives for the other three Odyssey areas added thus far: Sheol A, B, and C before you can even enter.

Then, you’ll want to group up with a party of up to six people max, none of which can be on duplicate jobs, which is an interesting requirement. You’ll be fighting a boss NM when entering Sheol: Gaol, and defeating it will unlock the ability to purchase equipment from the ??? Moogle in Rabao using in-event currency. The difficulty can be raised to presumably increase the rewards.

These items can augmented and as you defeat more NMs, you’ll unlock more items to purchase. What’s interesting is that depending on how popular the item is on your server, the price will change. Presumably it will go up if it’s popular and possibly down if it’s not as popular.

That’s the general idea, but feel free to give the January 2021 Final Fantasy XI version update’s patch notes a read if you’re interested in learning more.

Warzone Infinite Stim Glitch Is Back & It’s Worse Than Ever

3 years 3 months ago

Warzone isn’t a stranger to a glitch or exploit. Being able to duplicate Juggernaut suits, fly helicopters under the map, or become completely invisible are all things that have cropped up over the 10 months since the mode launched. None of those are as infamous as the Infinite Stim Glitch however, which has returned once more this week, and it’s more widespread than ever.

The glitch has reared its ugly head a few times already. It first infiltrated Modern Warfare’s multiplayer last July, before appearing in Warzone in early October and mid-November, only to be patched a few days later each time.

The stim glitch lets you sit in the gas anywhere on the map, healing yourself with the Medical Syringe tactical item over and over again, presumably for ever, or until Activision turns the server off at least.

Anyone not doing that will then be killed as the gas closes in, resigned to being cheated out of a win, leaving the exploiting player(s) alive somewhere else on the map for the free Warzone victory. You can see below exactly how it works.

Riot Has Made Big Changes to Valorant’s Matchmaking For Episode 2

3 years 3 months ago

While almost all the new content coming in Valorant’s Episode 2 had already been revealed, the anticipated changes to its matchmaking system were still being kept tight-lipped by Riot Games. That is until a live stream aired last night detailing a major overhaul that should hopefully improve its competitive gameplay experience across the board.

At its center is a new point-based system that replaces the notoriously unclear arrow system previously. Riot hopes the numbers better communicate to players how much XP they should expect to gain and why they’re moving either up or down the ranks in the first place. you’re moving in the first place. There’s also a new progress bar to help further clear up the picture.

Here’s a breakdown of how MMR is determined via Riot’s overview:

5 Black Ops Cold War Issues the Mid-Season Update Needs to Address

3 years 3 months ago

Weapon Balancing

cold war mid-season update

Weapon balancing is arguably the most problematic part of Black Ops Cold War’s multiplayer right now, much as it’s also the case in Warzone. A lot of this centers around the DMR, a semi-automatic rifle with little to no recoil and enough firepower to drop an enemy in just a few shots. It should be right at the top of the list for a nerf in Cold War’s mid-season update, but it shouldn’t stop there.

The more I’ve played multiplayer, the more it’s become clear that weapon classes don’t really mean anything anymore. In past titles, each weapon class — Assault Rifles, SMGs, LMGs, Shotguns, Tactical Rifles etc. — have felt like they had a distinct purpose in the meta. Strengths and weaknesses that meant one weapon couldn’t just be your go-to for every map and game type. In Cold War, that’s not the case.

Special Edition Switch Revealed Alongside Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury Trailer

3 years 3 months ago

This morning, Nintendo shared a brand new trailer for the upcoming game Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury. In addition, they announced an event for Super Mario Bros. 35 and a special edition Switch console.

The trailer for the game was approximately two minutes in length and mostly featured gameplay from the Super Mario 3D world part of the game. The second half of the trailer, called “A Bigger Badder Bowser,” finally gave us a glimpse of what we can expect from the Bowser’s Fury portion.

We see Bowser grow to a gigantic size and turn dark in color, looking totally evil and quite epic. It looks like it’s impossible for Mario to battle him until we see Mario use his cat costume to also grow just as massive.

It seems like a substantial amount of new content that adds value to Super Mario 3D World, which originally released on the Wii U.

The trailer isn’t the only bit of news Nintendo shared this morning. They also revealed a brand new special edition Switch console with a Mario theme.

It’s called Nintendo Switch – Mario Red & Blue Edition, which features a color scheme to honor Mario’s outfit. It will launch at the same time as Super Mario 3D World and Bowser’s Fury in a bundle with a carrying case and screen protector.

This special edition is the first time the Switch system itself will be available in a new color beyond the standard black.

One last bit of news that Nintendo shared today: Super Mario Bros. 35, which is available free for Switch Online subscribers, will be receiving three events from January to March. Players can work together to complete goals during a set period of time.

The first event will run from Jan. 18 to Jan. 25, and players will work together to defeat 3.5 million Bowsers during this time, with platinum points awarded to players for succeeding.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War Offers Free Zombies For Limited Time

3 years 3 months ago

Activision announced it will be offering a free trial week of Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War’s Zombies modes across PC and consoles.

New players on Battle.net for PC, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles can download and play the game containing only the Zombies modes from Thursday, Jan. 14 to Thursday, Jan. 21.

Players will need to buy the full game after the free access week ends to continue playing with progress carrying over, similar to when the publisher offered free access to just the game’s competitive multiplayer for a limited time last month.

The free trial week will offer two to three Zombies modes depending on platform. Players will have access to Die Maschine, the regular Zombies mode where up to four players survive against waves of zombies with power ups and secrets to uncover, and Cranked which requires players to continually defeat zombies on a timer or die when it runs out.

The Onslaught mode will also be available for PlayStation players only, since the mode is a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 exclusive until November 2021. The mode offers two players to kill waves of zombies in specific areas on the Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War multiplayer maps for rewards.

You Can Now Play Pokemon Red on a Twitter Avatar

3 years 3 months ago

Remember when Twitch Plays Pokemon was a whole thing? Well, if you thought that was a mess, you’ll be glad to know that it’s now possible to play the entirety of Pokemon Red through someone’s Twitter profile picture.

This project was developed by Constantin Lietard and pushed out to Twitter over the weekend. How it works is that you can reply to the tweet embedded below with a button input command, and the game will automatically upload a screenshot to update the Twitter avatar to show progress.

It’s a little bit silly, especially since progress is so slow and can be hard to track with so many people trying to play, but it’s still an entertaining endeavor nonetheless. The program will pull a command from the replies every 15 seconds and apply it to the game.

In addition to that, there is also a new Discord server set up to help organize the efforts to try to beat Pokemon Red on Twitter, which you can check out here.

New Phasmophobia Update Lets Ghosts Listen Out for Player Voices

3 years 3 months ago

Phasmophobia released on Steam early access last year and it ended up being a pretty big hit. The game felt truly horrifying because of how players were forced to interact with various ghosts in different ways, including using their mics to talk to them and wait for a response. The overall atmosphere of Phasmophobia was eerie and excellent, and it hasn’t even been fully released yet.

Kinetic Games sent out a couple of tweets today stating that the new beta build for the game includes a change where ghosts can now listen out for player voices through in-game chat. Whenever the ghost hears player voices, they’ll actively move to that location and start searching there.

Today Bandai Namco released a new trailer of the upcoming Tales of Festival 2020 dedicated to the popular JRPG series.

The year may sound confusing, as the event was supposed to happen last summer in Yokohama. It has been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and it’s now happening between March 6 and March 7.

A rich cast of voice actors from past games of the series will be in attendance.

At the moment, we don’t know if we can expect relevant news about Tales of Arise, which has been delayed to 2021, but we did recently hear from producer Yusuke Tomizawa that the publisher is preparing to release more information, so we’ll have to wait and see.

It is worth mentioning that the previous Tales of Festival, hosted in June 2019, did include a trailer and assets showcasing the upcoming game, so there certainly is hope.

In the meanwhile, you can enjoy the trailer below.

While EA is probably synonymous with the Star Wars game releases at this point, it looks like fans of the franchise can look forward to a new era with the establishment of Lucasfilm Games, which is meant to be a new identity “developed in collaboration with the finest studios across the industry.”

What this means is that while developing studios like EA will likely continue to produce Star Wars games, all titles related to the franchise going forward will also bear the Lucasfilm Games name as well.

‘Lucasfilm’s legacy in gaming stretches back decades. And with Lucasfilm and the galaxy far, far away entering a new and unprecedented phase of creativity, so will the world of Lucasfilm Games — developed in collaboration with the finest studios across the industry.
StarWars.com is thrilled to reveal that Lucasfilm Games is now the official identity for all gaming titles from Lucasfilm, a name that encompasses the company’s rich catalog of video games and its eye toward the future. To mark this new era, Lucasfilm Games has launched social channels on Twitter (@LucasfilmGames) and Facebook (@LucasfilmGames), which will deliver breaking news and more directly to fans.’
