3 years 3 months ago

After months of anticipation third-party add-on developer DC Designs released its F-15 Eagle package for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

The add-on includes four variants of the aircraft, the F-15C, the F-15D, the F-15E Strike Eagle, and the Israeli F-15I.

Price of Xbox Live Gold Going Up; New Games With Gold Revealed (Update: Prices Not Going Up)

3 years 3 months ago

Update: Late on Friday, Microsoft reversed course after receiving overwhelming negative feedback. Here is their response in full. The original post will follow the response.

We messed up today and you were right to let us know. Connecting and playing with friends is a vital part of gaming and we failed to meet the expectations of players who count on it every day. As a result, we have decided not to change Xbox Live Gold pricing.

We’re turning this moment into an opportunity to bring Xbox Live more in line with how we see the player at the center of their experience. For free-to-play games, you will no longer need an Xbox Live Gold membership to play those games on Xbox. We are working hard to deliver this change as soon as possible in the coming months.

If you are an Xbox Live Gold member already, you stay at your current price for renewal. New and existing members can continue to enjoy Xbox Live Gold for the same prices they pay today. In the US, $9.99 for 1-month, $24.99 for 3-months, $39.99 for 6-months and $59.99 for retail 12-months.

Microsoft has today unveiled its next line-up of free games for Xbox Live Gold subscribers, which is headlined by some excellent games that include Resident Evil Remake and Gears 5.

The full line-up throughout February and the dates each is available is as follows:

Genshin Impact’s Version 1.3 Story Content Sparkles in New Trailer

3 years 3 months ago

Developer miHoYo has today showcased the first footage of Genshin Impact’s Version 1.3. The update is set to introduce new storylines, characters, and gear to grind for.

As you’ll see below, the storyline seems to center around a Liyue festival called the Lantern Rite, and it’s there, toward the end of the trailer, that we see a fleeting glimpse of The Traveler’s sibling. It seems the two are almost re-united before once again being pulled apart.

Notably, there’s also a first look at the new playable character, Xiao, who is known as the Vigilant Yaksha. Those who have been playing Genshin Impact since the beta will remember him from those early days, but he has, of course, since been removed from the game. He’s set to make a big return in Update 1.3.

Here’s the trailer:

For those who still can’t get over the beauty of the Dragonspine region which was added to the game in Update 1.2, do make sure you check out the excellent mini-documentary from miHoYo that sheds light on its development.

Hitman 3 Has Recorded the Biggest Digital Launch in the Franchise’s History

3 years 3 months ago

IO Interactive’s latest iteration of its beloved Hitman series has been an overwhelming success. Today, the developer confirmed that Hitman 3 has recorded the biggest digital launch in the franchise’s history.

The news comes by way of a Tweet from IO’s Twitter channel, which includes a graphic celebrating the game’s equally impressive critical reception.

Given global COVID-19 stay-at-home measures, it’s perhaps no surprise that Hitman 3’s digital sales have been stronger than usual. Although, it’s still a clear indication that the franchise has a substantial following either way.

Twinfinite’s own review of Hitman 3 was certainly full of praise for what we considered yet another masterstroke from IO. Albeit, one that does play things a little safe. Our review concluded:

“Without straying far from the successful sandbox formula, it’s an excellent final part of IO’s trilogy. While the increased freedom and level variety won’t be for everyone, Hitman 3 boasts some of the best locations and stories the series has ever seen, and there’s so much to uncover in each and every one of them.”

Breath of the Wild Mod Makes Link’s House Look Even Comfier

3 years 3 months ago

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild features a massive open-world for players to explore. With such a huge world to play around in, it can be a little intimidating. The good news is, there’s actually a house you can buy in the game, and there’s a mod that makes it look even comfier and more welcoming.

Created by Waikuteru, not only does the house look nicer, it also offers quite a few extra conveniences and quality-of-life improvements. For instance, you’d be able to fast travel straight to the house instead of having to warp to the village shrine. There’s also a fire in the house itself where you can cook and prepare meals before venturing out again.

You can check out the house tour video down below:

Aesthetically, the mod adds a few new lamps and light sources to make the house look warmer. Link will also get a new pet chicken that will drop you eggs if you keep poking it. But of course, you’ll need to be careful of antagonizing the chicken and get ready to make a run for it if you anger it too much.

Resident Evil Village Gets New Trailer, Gameplay Details, Release Date & More

3 years 4 months ago

Resident Evil Village has received a slew of new info, ranging from new details about the gameplay to a firm release date for most every platform.

During the Resident Evil Showcase held on Jan. 21, information on a variety of elements related to Resident Evil Village was revealed. These included a firm release dat of May 7, 2021; an expanded availability to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One; a new trailer hinting at more of the game’s story and characters; and a gameplay demo showing off how the game’s combat, exploration and puzzle solving will work.

In terms of the trailer, it’s more of what fans of the series have become accustomed to. Starting with a cryptic conversation between Ethan and Mia, it quickly cuts to scenes of some of the game’s villains and monsters. These range from sword-wielding wretches in sewer-ways to a long and tall vampire; who, during her time on screen, speaks with an unseen adversary known as Mother Miranda.

Immortals Fenyx Rising Adds Blood of Zeus Bonus Quest via Limited Time Crossover

3 years 4 months ago

Today Ubisoft announced that a new crossover between Immortals Fenyx Rising, and Netflix animated series Blood of Zeus, would take place.

The crossover between the two franchises based around Greek mythology begins right now apparently and only runs for one week ending on Jan. 28. So if this is something that intrigues you and you’re playing Immortals Fenyx Rising I’d hop to it.

Players will gain access to a new Blood of Zeus-themed quest called A Tribute to Family that will appear on the game map after completing the quest “Gods and Monsters.”

Here are the details of the crossover quest via Ubisoft:

The quest will first take you to the Hall of the Gods where you’ll find a lone ghost to interact with. Completing the quest will earn players the Eagle pendant and new “Blood of Zeus”-inspired customization options.

You’ll also be able to purchase a new weapon pack containing themed skins for Fenyx’s sword, axe, and bow, as well as a character pack to customize your armor, helmet, wings, mount, and Phosphor with a unique “Blood of Zeus” flair. Both the weapon and character pack can still be purchased after the conclusion of the crossover event.

So while the quest itself might only be around for a limited time, it does appear that the purchasable customization options will still be available, so there’s that at least I suppose if that’s something you’re into.

Between Immortals Fenyx Rising, Hades, Blood of Zeus, Smite still being alive in 2021, and probably other stuff I’m forgetting, Greek Mythology is so hot right now.

Codemasters’ Board of Directors Agree to Terms of EA Takeover; Acquisition Inches Closer

3 years 4 months ago

The board of directors of Codemasters, the developers behind popular racing game franchises such as F1 and Dirt, have voted in favor of accepting EA’s proposed acquisition terms.

While the directors are on board with EA’s proposal there are still a few other hoops that need to be jumped through before everything is official and Codemasters is formally acquired by EA as outlined by VGC.

First, the shareholders of Codemasters need to vote and agree to the terms. As VGC notes, the directors are recommending to shareholders that they do vote to move forward with the acquisition. And the after that, a court hearing will be held to approve the deal.

All the while EA still has the ability to rescind their offer or allow it to lapse without finalizing should they change their mind hypothetically for whatever reason. In other words, nothing is locked in just yet, but it is rapidly heading in the direction of acquisition.

Last year, Take-Two made a move to acquire Codemasters but EA was able to swoop in with a deal that the Codemasters board apparently found more favorable, and Take-Two’s offer lapsed as a result.

Naughty Dog Artist Debunks False Speculation About Unannounced Fantasy Game

3 years 4 months ago

A couple of days ago, fantasy-themed artwork by Naughty Dog Senior Concept artist Hyoung Taek Nam surfaced, triggering the usual charade of misleading speculation from various media outlets.

The art posted two months ago on the Artist’s official Artstation page featured a series of female characters in a fantasy setting with the mention “Inspire from new game. You know what I’m talking about…”

This was interpreted by many as some sort of tease or leak of a new game by Naughty Dog, despite the fact that it was fairly obvious that Hyoung Taek Nam meant that the art was simply inspired by a new game, which at the moment he opted not to name.

Apparently, the media hubbub prompted the artist to clarify and the text has been edited, revealing that this is indeed not art related to a new game by Naughty Dog, but inspired by Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, which was “new” when the art was posted.

Destruction AllStars was initially supposed to launch in November 2020, but like many other games that year, its release was delayed. Its release is now right around the corner, so a new Destruction AllStars trailer has just been released introducing the game’s characters.

The car combat game is now launching on PS Plus in February, as stated in a PlayStation Blog post last October. It’s a PS5 exclusive that could possibly scratch that Twisted Metal itch that longtime PlayStation fans have had for years now.

New Conor McGregor Update Coming to UFC 4 Ahead of This Weekend’s Big Rematch

3 years 4 months ago

UFC fighter Conor McGregor is grabbing all the headlines ahead of his anticipated rematch with top lightweight contender Dustin “The Diamond” Poirier, including, now, the games industry as EA prepares to launch its next UFC 4 update focused on the former double champion.

In a trailer today called “Local Lad,” a new in-game skin for McGregor is showcased within a montage that recaps his career. The new skin changes his look to the very same appearance as when he and Poirier faced off back in 2014.

McGregor was, at the time, an up and coming featherweight who was quickly capturing the world’s attention with his larger-than-life personality and impressive knockout victories. During his bout with Poirier, he donned white tudo shorts and had his hair braided in a ponytail.

The update also includes the addition UFC light heavyweight Jiri Prochazka also makes his way into the Octagon as a new playable fighter. He is set to face-off with former title-contender Dominic Reyes later this year, which perhaps explains his inclusion.

Elsewhere, Andre Bishop and Isaac Frost, have also been unlocked for immediate play. Both have been added to the heavyweight roster.

Also, world heavyweight boxing champions Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury as free fighters until Feb. 8 via Microsoft and Sony digital stores.

Playdead’s Next Game Is Third Person & Open-World, New Job Listing & Concept Art Reveals

3 years 4 months ago

Playdead’s anticipated next game will feature a markedly different design from the critically acclaimed puzzle-platformers it’s best known for. This is according to a job listing over on the developer’s website, which was spotlighted today by enthusiast video game analyst @mauroNL.

The page lists several different full-time opportunities, from programming opportunities to technical director and systems administrator positions. But it’s actually the updated blurb that is the most interesting takeaway, which now reads in part

“Our current project is a 3rd-person science fiction adventure set in a remote corner of the universe.”

While we’ve long known that Playdead’s next project was a science fiction game following some tidbits from an older version of this particular job listing page and a brief teaser, it’s only now that we’ve discovered its design.

Speaking of concept art, there’s more on that front today, too, with two new and interesting images:

First Borderlands 3 Arms Race Mini-Event Starts Today & Other Changes

3 years 4 months ago

That’s right folks, today kicks off the Clear Skies event for Arms Race in Borderlands 3. Clear Skies will last until January 28. Today’s changes to the game are in an actual update, so you will need to do some downloading as opposed to the usual wait at the main menu for the hotfixes to apply.

For those unfamiliar with Arms Race, it is a game mode new to the Borderlands series that drops the player into a large map with zero gear or player skills and they must work within the confines of the encroaching Murdercane (pretty much the same way circles work in every Battle Royale). The player must scrounge up enough loot to guarantee survival (shields are required) while working to collect the best loot they can to then beat the mode’s boss and win.

The first mini-event, Clear Skies, begins with today’s hotfixes. During the Clear Skies mini-event, all enemies will have a chance to drop better loot and the Murdercane’s circle will take longer to close in so you have precious extra time to scavenge and explore.

Available on Aerosoft’s own store for about €18 including VAT, it comes with its own installer as is the publisher’s standard, which means that installation is relatively painless. The package even includes a complement of relevant charts.

If you’d like to see what the airport looks like in detail in Microsoft Flight Simulator, you can check out the in-depth flyover video below, showing the airfield from every angle, every weather condition, and at night.

On the other hand, the second video below showcases an ILS approach to runway 29.

Apex Legends Season 8 Launch Trailer Teases New King’s Canyon in Explosive Cinematic

3 years 4 months ago

A Stories From the Outlands video was released earlier this week to introduce Fuse — the newest Legend that’ll be joining the Apex Games on Feb. 2. Today’s launch trailer teases his abilities while giving a quick preview of what to expect in Apex Legends Season 8, Mayhem.

Walter “Fuse” Fitzroy makes his cinematic debut in front of the other Legends in this trailer when everything goes wrong. The ship he descends on starts to fire cannon in every direction, threatening the surrounding spectators.

Thanks to some quick thinking, Fuse is able to bring it down with the help of his golden grenade from his Story From the Outlands, which seemed to have an EMP effect.

Soon after, multiple sections of King’s Canyon start to literally explode, changing the terrain in preparation for Season 8 of Apex Legends.

Check out the chaotic Season 8 launch trailer below for yourself below to get a quick look at what’s to come next month:

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 Gets New Screenshots Revealing God of Destruction Toppo DLC

3 years 4 months ago

Today Bandai Namco revealed a new gallery of screenshots showcasing the upcoming Legendary Pack 1 DLC.

We get to see another new character included in the DLC on top of Paikuhan/Pikkon, and it’s God of Destruction Toppo.

At the same time as the DLC (which is now slated for a Spring 2021 release), a free update will bring Janemba’s CC mascot and five new Hero Colosseum figurines as follows:

  • Toppo (God of Destruction)
  • Pikkon
  • Janemba
  • Gogeta (Super Saiyan 1)
  • Vegeta (SSGSS)

You can find the screenshots below. Incidentally yes, the DLC is titled “Legendary Pack 1” which likely means that it’s not the last. That’s pretty impressive for a game that is over four years old.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC. If you want to read more about the game, you can check out our review.

The Bigger Game – Metal Gear Survive

Xbox Games with Gold Predictions

For the current month of January, Microsoft has offered four games for free on Games with Gold including Little Nightmares, Dead Rising, The King of Fighters XIII, and Breakdown. While the offical list for the upcoming month of February 2021 has yet to be released, we have some Xbox Games with Gold predictions in the meantime to tide us over.

Usually a larger AAA title headlines the list, and for next month we suspect Metal Gear Survive would be a perfect choice.

Metal Gear Survive didn’t sell the best when it first released back in 2018, with 2013’s Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance reporting selling twice the rate when it first released. Survive also was placed only 65th in the player count data on Steam in the first few months that it came out.
