Civilization VI Reveals New DLC Civ Vietnam and New Leader Kublai Khan

3 years 4 months ago

Today Firaxis and 2K games revealed the content of the upcoming DLC package for Sid Meier’s Civilization VI.

First of all, we learn that the new DLC (which will be released on January 28) will include a new civilization, and it’s Vietnam. For now, all we know is that it’ll be based on culture and terrain.

A new video featuring it will be launched at a later time providing more information.

A new leader will also be added, and he will be an option for both China and Mongolia. If you’re interested in Chinese history, you’ll probably be able to guess that he’s Kublai Khan. Once more, additional information will be provided at a later time.

A new mode named Monopolies and Corporations Mode will also be included, letting players unleash their tycoon fantasies.

You can find plenty of details of how it’ll work in the video below.

Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Coming to Switch in March, Fatesworn Expansion Later in 2021

3 years 4 months ago

THQ Nordic has today announced that the Nintendo Switch version of Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning will launch on March 16 with all DLC included. The anticipated Fatesworm expansion, which is said to add around five hours of new gameplay, was also confirmed as still in the works and arriving later in the year.

Re-Reckoning is a remaster of Big Huge Games’ and 38 Studios’ 2012 action-RPG, which earned acclaim for its superb combat system and engaging progression mechanics. The lore of its intriguing world is also noteworthy, too, which is largely inspired by Celtic mythology and stands apart from the typical high fantasy aesthetic, even if Amalur’s graphical style is itself rather derivative.

The new and improved version features enhanced visuals and some quality of life improvements over the original. Although, it should be noted that critics were largely underwhelmed by the enhancements when playing the PS4 and Xbox One versions. It’s something Twinfinite’s own Ethan Anderson noted in his review last year.

For that reason, it’s actually Switch’s handheld functionality that is likely to prove the most appealing prospect to returning fans — the opportunity to play such a massive open-world PRG on the go is just such a boon.

You can check out today’s new trailer showcasing what is presumably footage of the Switch version in action:

Hitman 3 Review – Fiber Wires Out

3 years 4 months ago

Hitman 3 on Xbox Series X

Ever since IO Interactive broke away from Square Enix and gained “complete control over the Hitman IP,” as its CEO, Hakan Abrak, put it, the team has insisted that Hitman 3 would feature “the most important contracts of his (Agent 47’s) entire career” as the conclusion to the trilogy.

Not only does Agent 47 have more ways to take people out than ever before in Hitman 3, but the locations are more impressive, even if not all of them rank among the series’ best.

For the most part, and somewhat expectedly, Hitman 3’s structure remains largely the same — sticking to what has worked well previously. You’re plonked into a level with a fiber wire, some coins, a dashing disguise, and few details on who you’re there to kill, and you can do whatever you like. Between each of the six missions, there are then cinematic story cutscenes that set the tone for subsequent missions.

The sandboxes are generally pretty similar in size and design to those in previous games. There are restricted areas you need to change your outfit to sneak into, for example, as well as the typical window ledges to shimmy along, and often large crowds to blend into.

The locations themselves are Hitman 3’s truly new features, and IO has produced some of their best work yet. The opener, which has been shown off a lot in preview, is a spectacular and state of the art highrise in Dubai that’s pretty standard layout wise but highlights Hitman 3’s stunning art design.

New Fire Emblem Heroes Update Brings Back Tharja, Dorothea, & More

3 years 4 months ago

Fire Emblem Heroes is easily one of the biggest free-to-play gacha mobile games available right now. Released a few years back, it gave mobile users a way to play a watered down version of a Fire Emblem game, while also including microtransactions that allowed players to pay money for more opportunities to obtain powerful characters if they so choose.

Since its release, Nintendo has been supporting the game with consistent updates, keeping things fresh for longtime players. The latest update brings back four characters: Tharja from Awakening, Raphael and Dorothea from the recent Three Houses, Lene from Genealogy of the Holy War. You can check out the trailer down below.

The update also includes a new paralogue called Dark Desert Rituals, which all players can attempt once they’ve updated their game. Fire Emblem Heroes is now available on all mobile devices.

Netflix’s The Witcher Season 2 Resumes Filming, Will Continue Through March 2021

3 years 4 months ago

Back in November, it was reported that filming and production of Netflix’s The Witcher series had halted due to multiple positive COVID-19 tests on set. Thankfully, it looks like production has resumed, though the filming schedule will continue through March of this year, according to a report from Redanian Intelligence.

Actor Paul Bullion, who takes on the role of Lambert in the show, tweeted today to announce that he was back on set, which confirms that production has indeed resumed. While there’s still no word on when the second season will be released, it’s still a good sign that we’ll likely see it sooner rather than later.

The first season of Netflix’s The Witcher had a rather slow start, but picked up in a big way about three episodes in before ending with a bang. The show was so well-received that it quickly got greenlit for a second season after the first season had just aired. We’ll keep you updated as more info on the show comes our way.

You Can Now Play Skyrim at 60fps on PS5

3 years 4 months ago

Skyrim will never die. Since the release of Skyrim: Special Edition, console players have been able to make use of mods as well through Bethesda’s Creation Club. While the selection will never be quite as expansive or varied as what we have on PC, it’s still pretty damn good, and modders are making it even better.

A newly released mod on Bethesda’s Creation Club now allows PlayStation users to enjoy the game at 60 frames per second, which is pretty darn impressive. You can check out the mod in action for yourself down below.

It’s also worth noting that players on PS4 and PS4 Pro can also download the mod and use it, but it’s unclear whether the performance will be just as good on those machines. Even so, if you were looking for more ways to enjoy Bethesda’s open-world RPG, now’s a good time to jump back in.

There’s a Bot that Turns Reddit Arguments into Ace Attorney Debates

3 years 4 months ago

If you’ve ever spent any amount of time on Reddit, you’ll undoubtedly have come across at least some sort of argument or two between passionate commenters. These are sometimes fun to read, other times, not so much. But if you wanna have a good time reading lengthy arguments, this new bot from Micah Price turns them into Ace Attorney style debates, and it looks awesome.

Speaking with Mashable, Price said that he was a fan of Ace Attorney and was inspired by other meme videos he saw on YouTube. To activate the bot, you’ll simply have to add the command !objectionbot in a Reddit thread, which will allow the bot to scan the thread and automatically convert it into an Ace Attorney debate.

The bot only works with a selection of Reddit threads at the moment, but it does keep track of which comments have a negative score, and which ones have been rated more highly, and plug that into the video. The project was created with Python and is currently open source, so it may very well get developed and expanded upon even further going forward.

The Last of Us Part II Director Neil Druckmann Weighs in On What Established IP He’d Like to Make a Game For

3 years 4 months ago

Naughty Dog co-president and creative designer of The Last of Us Part II and Uncharted 4, Neil Druckmann revealed what established IPs he’d like to make a game for.

Asked by Kinda Funny Game’s Greg Miller, the question is purely hypothetical and shouldn’t be taken seriously at all as a hint as to what Naughty Dog is up to next.

That said, it’s still interesting to imagine what it would be like if Druckmann and the team at Naughty Dog decided to make a game set within the Punisher universe.

Here’s Druckmann’s top 5:

The Punisher is a really interesting one. I just wrapped up The Last of Us Part II myself and the violent gameplay seen in that title would certainly work well in a game set in the Punisher’s world.

That one seems like it could actually be plausible one day if Naughty Dog ever had the time, and could be given permission to work with the IP.

This Bloodborne PS1 Demake Looks Absolutely Brilliant

3 years 4 months ago

Bloodborne is perhaps the most beloved of all Souls games, lauded in particular for the eerie ambiance of its dreary gothic streets and the terrifying design of the creatures who lurk them.

Personally, it’s always reminded me of childhood days half hiding under my blanket playing Kalisto Entertainment’s creepy 1997 PSOne hack-and-slash Nightmare Creatures. So, imagine my delight today in seeing the efforts of one talented developer who’s been slowly putting together a demake of Bloodborne!

Lilith Walther is a UE4 Tech artist/engineer currently working on the indie JRPG Witch from Heartstrings Studios, but in her spare time, she’s been forging the amazing demake showcased on her Twitter today.

If you actually click into the Tweet above you’ll find a whole thread recapping her progress so far, which has been ongoing since 2017. Recent milestones include a character customization mechanic and save system.

By the sounds of it, the plan is to make something that’s actually playable, as opposed to it simply being a tech showcase.

Anything that isn’t a mainline series game with your standard catch, train, and battle experience is considered to be a spin-off for the sake of this list.

There will be no mainline games or remakes included. So for example, you may see a quest about the Mystery Dungeon series, but you will not see a question about Pokémon Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee as they are remakes of the generation one games.

Now, let’s see how well you remember these Pokémon spin-offs. Will you land some critical hits or end up flopping like a Magikarp?

Apex Legends Good As Gold Teases New Character Fuse

3 years 4 months ago

Respawn and EA are getting ready to introduce the next season of Apex Legends. Just like in the past, the teaser rollout is starting up as the current season is coming to a close. This Apex Legends Stories From the Outlands video focuses on new Legend, Fuse.

The story, titled “Good as Gold” brings us to Salvo, where we see Fuse grow up after he and a friend happen upon a golden grenade while exploring. Their story isn’t exactly the easiest to follow, but it ends with Fuse stating that he’s joining the Apex Games as a new Legend.

This short video doesn’t explicitly show any of his potential abilities, but the focus on the grenade, combined with his nickname, hints at Fuse having some sort of affinity for demolitions.

Check out the Stories From the Outlands trailer below to get a quick, but slightly confusing look at Fuse’s backstory before he becomes an Apex Legend on Feb. 2:

Hitman 3 Launch Trailer Sets the Stage for Murder & Adventure

3 years 4 months ago

Hitman 3 has received a new launch trailer ahead of its impending release, showing off all the places agent 47 will go in the name of murder.

Streamed through the official Hitman YouTube channel on Jan. 18, the trailer offers a glimpse at all the places players will travel to during the game, the people they’ll encounter and – of course – Agent 47 taking out a few targets in a variety of ways.

The locations shown include a night club, jam-packed with patrons absorbed in the music; remote stretches of wilderness, ranging from serene forests to scorching-hot deserts; remote estates that overlook an expansive valley; and technologically advanced facilities with unknown purposes.

Each of Hitman 3’s locales are stunningly beautiful, but for all their majesty, there’s an underlying danger. Most all of the areas are shown to contain weary persons of interest, guards preparing themselves for a showdown with would-be attackers or both.

Fortunately, Agent 47 won’t be alone in his missions. An ally can be seen with him in some of these locations, either standing beside him or dropping into the area to provide some form of assistance.

It’s all set to a haunting melody that’s as calming as it is foreboding, especially when one considers that the game has been touted as the epic conclusion to the series’ latest trilogy.

It’s a great trailer overall, and will give both long-time fans and newcomers a reason to be excited for the game’s imminent release. The full trailer can be viewed down below.

Microsoft Flight Simulator – Tweed New Haven Airport Review (Orbx)

3 years 4 months ago

Orbx recently released Tweed New Haven Airport (KHVN) in Connecticut, United States, for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

KHVN is an interesting choice for an add-on, as it’s far from a major hub. Yet, it does have scheduled airline services by American Eagle.

As a matter of fact, American Airlines canceled it at the end of last year and resumed it just a few days ago.

The airport is certainly more suitable for general aviation use because the simulator doesn’t yet have airliners of the type and size that regularly operate from New Haven.

As far as I know, the airport doesn’t usually see anything bigger than an Embraer E-175 (which is what flies there nowadays to and from Philadelphia) and has seen operations with CRJ and Dash-8 aircraft.

The Last of Us HBO TV Adaptation Now Has a Director

3 years 4 months ago

The Last of Us was confirmed for a TV adaptation of the popular game series on HBO a while back, and it looks like the project finally has a confirmed director. According to Hollywood Reporter, Russian filmmaker Kantemir Balagov will be heading the project.

Balagov is best known for directing the Russian films Closeness and Beanpole, the former making its debut at the Cannes festival back in 2017. Initially, it had been rumored that Chernobyl director Johan Renck would be heading the project instead, but has reportedly dropped out due to scheduling conflicts.

The Last of Us was developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony, and it tells the story of a smuggler named Joel and a 14 year-old girl named Ellie as they travel across America to find an organization called the Fireflies to hopefully help them find a cure for the infection that has ravaged the world. There are no further details on the TV adaptation itself, but we’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way.

Hitman 3 Will Make Use of Google Stadia’s State Share Feature

3 years 4 months ago

IO Interactive’s Hitman 3 is set to release on Jan. 20. While it will be available on PC and consoles, it’s also going to release on the Google Stadia. And if you’re planning on checking the game out on Stadia, you’ll be pleased to know that this is the first game that will make use of Stadia’s State Share feature.

For the uninitiated, the State Share feature allows players to share their save points online via a saved image or video clip. With this feature being implemented in Hitman 3, players will hypothetically be able to share their unique experiences in the game, allowing others to replay a specific way of beating a mission.

Over on the Google Stadia site, Product Manager Catherine Hsiao gave more insight into how it would work with Hitman 3:

In HITMAN 3, as well as in the first two games in the HITMAN – World of Assassination trilogy, you’ll be able to use State Share to save a game state within any campaign or custom mission, during the missions themselves or at the mission complete screen. IO Interactive has designed its use of State Share to allow all saved game states to include the following gameplay elements:

  • Mission starting location within the beginning of the level
  • Mission objectives
  • Player loadout (including weapon, gear, and clothing)
  • Mission difficulty

The incredible part of playing HITMAN 3 on Stadia is that with State Share, you’ll be able to play with weapons and items that you haven’t unlocked yet. Even if you haven’t unlocked certain weapons or items in HITMAN 3, you’ll be able to experience them with State Share at the click of a link, without affecting your own progression in-game.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Airbus A380 Add-On Gets WIP Screenshots Showing Cockpit & Landing Gear

3 years 4 months ago

Today the folks at FlyByWire Simulations showcased an interesting preview of the 3D work going on for their Airbus A380 add-on for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

We get to see the 3D models of the overhead console, the pedestal, and the nose landing gear.

Do keep in mind that the elements that appear in color don’t have an actual texture yet besides decals. A base color has simply been applied to the mesh and the screens are still images for now, so this is very much work-in progress.

You can find the screenshots below and the full video, which also includes information and a look to the progress of FlyByWire’s outstanding A320NX mod.

Incidentally, the work done by FlyByWire on the A380 is especially relevant considering that there really isn’t a good add-on portraying the massive airliner pretty much anywhere. If you’d like to hear more, you can read our recent interview with founder Iceman.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Goes North With Båtsfjord & Stockholm Skavsta Airport Add-Ons Release

3 years 4 months ago

Microsoft Flight Simulator just got two new airports for fans of flying over the Scandinavian peninsula.

The first is Båtsfjord Airport (ENBS) by Onfinal Studio, which can be purchased on SimMarket for Approximately $12.

It’s a small airport in Norway with an unmistakable look due to the terminal’s exterior covered in Russian Larch.

Widerøe is the only airline operating at the airport, connecting it with several regional destinations.

Next is Stockholm Skavsta Airport (ESKN) in Sweden by M’M Simulations. Despite the name, it’s actually near Nyköping, about 100 km from the Swedish capital.

As usual with airports that bear just the name of a large city but are nowhere near it, it’s a destination beloved by low-cost airlines, which can bait and switch by telling you you’re flying to Stockholm, and then dropping you over an hour by train and bus from the city.

In this case, Skavsta is host to several regular flights operated by Ryanair and Wizz Air.

This one is also on SimMarket for approximately $21.

Dead or Alive Creator Tomonobu Itagaki Wants To Make a New Game & Created a New Studio To Do It

3 years 4 months ago

Legendary developer Tomonobu Itagaki is well-known for creating Dead or Alive and for the Ninja Gaiden series, but as of late, he has been out of the spotlight. That may be about to change.

In a post of Facebook (as reported by Gamestalk), Itagaki-san relayed a Q&A chain that was supposed to be part of an Xbox-focused interview on Bloomberg but ultimately was not published.

Not only he talks about his relationship with Microsoft during the early years of the Xbox brand, but he also reveals that he’s ready to make a new game and he has formed a new studio named Itagaki Games for that purpose.

He also clarifies that the new studio is not related to either Tecmo or Valhalla Game Studios.

Below you can read the whole Q&A.

“Bloomberg: How did you meet with Microsoft first?
Itagaki: The timing was immediately after that prototype of Xbox was complete. I think it was about 13 months prior to the product launch, and that was when Microsoft began talking to Japanese studios, and Tecmo was one of them. Microsoft wanted to meet me, probably they believed I would be able to prepare a game that maximizes the machine’s full capabilities.

The video is still work-in-progress and focuses on the sound of the F-15’s engines, and they certainly feel impressive, esspecially if you crank your volume all the way up. I would advise against doing that if you’re in Europe and you live with other people who may already be sleeping.

You can check it out below.

The add-on will release on Jan. 20 or Jan. 21, and will be priced at $37 including four versions of the Eagle (C, D, E, and I).
