Developer Blooper Team is dialing up the hype today for its anticipated Microsoft exclusive The Medium with a superb live-action trailer.

The suspenseful sequence alludes to the game’s mind-bending story, which details the tale of a young medium who travels to an abandoned communist resort in the hopes of uncovering its secrets using her unique psychic abilities.

If you haven’t heard of Blooper Team before, they’re the studio behind the excellent story-driven adventure game The Observer. The Medium is its next and highly anticipated game, which is played from a third-person perspective and features an inventive mechanic the studio has coined “dual reality gameplay.”

Today’s live-action trailer is the first we’ve seen for The Medium, created in cooperation with Platige Image and Oscar nominee Tomasz Bagiński.

The Medium is available for pre-order on Xbox Series X/S and PC via Steam. It’s set for a release on Jan. 28, 2021, which is a slight delay from the original launch date.

If you’re interested in checking out more on the game, a 14 minute gameplay sequence revealed toward the end of last year provides an excellent overview.

Finally, if you’re getting Silent Hill vibes from The Medium’s soundtrack then you’re spot on: the OST features a collaboration with Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka.
