Flight Simulator Add-on Giants Aerosoft & Orbx Announce Distribution Deal

2 years 9 months ago

Germany-based Aerosoft and Australia-based Orbx are among the top dogs when it comes to developing and distributing add-ons for flight simulators, including the new Microsoft Flight simulator and older platforms.

Today they made an announcement via press release that will certainly send ripples through the add-on market.

Aerosoft and Orbx announced a distribution partnership that will see them sell each other’s products on the respective digital platforms.

Things will start relatively slowly with fifteen products from each company appearing in both Orbx Direct and Aerosoft’s own store, and more will be added with time.

Below you can read a comment from Orbx CEO Anna Cicognani, whom we interviewed quite recently.

“We are very excited to start this partnership with Aerosoft.

Orbx has been developing high-quality products for the major flight sim platforms for many years, and we are proud our two Companies – which share a lot of history – can offer flight simmers some of the best products from our respective catalogues.

We also got a comment from Aerosoft CEO Winfried Diekmann:

“A great partnership – both Aerosoft and Orbx are very well known brands in the flight simulation industry, and both care greatly about high quality and customer satisfaction. Together we can offer our respective customers a great variety of interesting products.”

At the moment, we don’t yet know which products from either developer will kick off the partnership.

Fallout 76 Is Getting Custom Private Servers in the Form of Fallout Worlds

2 years 9 months ago

Just a few days back, Bethesda teased the reopening of the Public Test Server for Fallout 76, and stated that they were working on a new major feature for the game. That new feature has just been revealed today, and it looks like players will soon get the chance to tweak custom settings in their own private servers.

Fallout Worlds will allow you to access public worlds, which are accessible to all players and crafted by Bethesda themselves. It will also allow you to create your own private custom world, where you can play around with the limits and parameters and tweak them to your liking.

“With Fallout Worlds, your imagination is the limit when under the sky of your own personal Appalachia. Utilizing a wide list of customizable settings, players can construct C.A.M.P.s in previously restricted areas or even remove the need for electricity to establish a builder’s paradise. Love Fallout 76’s survival mechanics? You can double down on braving Appalachia’s untamed wilds by changing the PVP rules and difficulty settings. And those are but two examples of what’s possible in Fallout Worlds.”

The feature is now available on the Public Test Server, and will be added to the game later this year.

Mini Motorways Interview: Dinosaur Polo Club Talks Aesthetics, Traffic, & Their Name

2 years 9 months ago

Mini Motorways is a minimalist strategy sim that has players plan out roadways in cities all across the world. You’ll take control of the traffic networks in places like Los Angeles, Tokyo, Moscow, and more as you try to create the smoothest commutes possible.

To learn more about the game and what went into it, Twinfinite interviewed developer Dinosaur Polo Club’s co-founder and designer Robert Curry, and community and engagement manager Casey Lucas-Quaid.

Ethan: I have to ask, what’s the story behind the name Dinosaur Polo Club?

Robert Curry: We just had to enter a name into the, you know, studio name thing. And so we just had to invent a thing. And my brother who I was working with on the game, he had a one-year-old son and he had some Dinosaur Club pajamas. They’re his favorite.

And then, well, he would always walk past the same bar on the way to my place, Bangalore Polo Club. So he just mashed them together and we had Dinosaur Polo Club. Um, and that’s that. There wasn’t anything fancy behind the name or anything (laughs). It just happened to be the two things that made some form of sense together.

Ethan: How did the idea of Mini Motorways come about? It seems like a natural progression from Mini Metro, so was it already an idea in the works back then?

Robert Curry: Yeah, so Mini Metro, that one, we have a much easier origin story for. I’d been to London and I liked the underground maps, and then we had an idea based on that. So we’d been thinking about how to follow on from that for a long time. We had a company-wide game jam for about three months long, just to try to find the next thing.

Ashes of Creation Shows Incredible Promise, Even in an Early State – Hands-on Preview

2 years 9 months ago

Ashes of Creation is one of the few in-development MMORPGs that has caught my eye and held onto my curiosity over a long development period. I’m an old-school MMORPG player. My first foray into the genre was Ultima Online and I would eventually transition to Final Fantasy XI as my primary game of choice for over a decade.

I’ve drifted into the more modern and popular MMOs like Final Fantasy XIV, and while that game’s fantastic visuals, writing, and story will always pull me in for a little while, it can never quite get its hooks fully into me.

In the case of Final Fantasy XIV at least, I drift in and out because the world, despite being massive, feels hollow. I rarely need to meaningfully interact with players, open areas are mostly just places you look at as you go from quest marker to quest marker, and my experience more or less is just waiting around in town for instanced content.

It doesn’t feel like an MMORPG in the classic sense. It’s more like a pretty hub world where I can do solo stuff to pass the time in between matchmade events. It doesn’t live and breathe the same way that classic MMORPGs do.

Ashes of Creation is the first MMORPG in years that really has me excited. It has the potential to marry old-school MMORPG player interaction and agency with modern improvements on the genre. And while many MMORPG developers have promised the moon and came up short, Intrepid seems like they are up to the task, and are beginning to prove it now with their Alpha-1 version of Ashes of Creation.

New Valorant ‘Sentinels of Light’ Skin Bundle Is Among the Best-Looking Yet

2 years 9 months ago

Few games do weapon skins quite like Valorant, and today Riot Games is readying itself to launch the game’s next premium bundle. Called Sentinels of Light, it follows on from Ruination as the second weapon bundle in Riot’s in-game crossover event of the same name.

The new skins have a distinct and absolutely beautiful fantasy aesthetic; as explained in a video over on Hitscan’s YouTube channel, which includes supporting commentary art lead Sean Marino and senior producer Preeti Khanolkar, The Sentinels are an established order of protectors who fight against darkness and push back evil. They originate from the Blessed Isles and are made up of champions scattered across the League universe, including Lucian, Senna, and Akshan.

As you may have noticed in the image above, the Sentinels of Light Bundle includes the Vandal, Ares, Operator, and Sheriff, with four different color options and the usual upgradeable levels of animation and finisher FX. You can get a flavor for its in-game appearance in the Tweet from Valorleaks below.

Faraday Protocol Is a Sci-Fi First-Person Puzzler Coming to Consoles & PC in August

2 years 9 months ago

It’s hard to believe that it’s been a whole ten years since Portal 2 launched, and despite a handful of excellent entries into the genre – like The Turing Test and The Talos Principle, for example – the amount of top-notch first-person puzzlers to come out since Valve’s critically acclaimed classic can probably be counted on just one hand. We may be about to add another one to the list, however, with Faraday Protocol.

That’s right, Italian developer Red Koi Box and German publisher Deck13 have just announced their own mind-bending first-person puzzler, Faraday Protocol, is coming out on August 12 for PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.

Specifically, Faraday Protocol is set to be a philosophical adventure set in an art déco-inspired sci-fi world where you are placed into the shoes of an alien archeologist. Go ahead and check out the official announcement trailer down below:

Final Fantasy XIV Producer Addresses Server Congestion Issues After Dramatic Population Boom

2 years 9 months ago

Square Enix has been finding itself in a bit of a pickle with Final Fantasy XIV in recent weeks, with the servers exploding due to a massive influx of new players.

While some would say that this isn’t a bad problem to have, this is causing issues for existing players, who often have to wait quite a bit in the queue to manage to log in, and this is months before the coming of the new expansion Endwalker, which will likely increase population even further.

To address the situation, Producer and Director Naoki Yoshida published an extensive message on the Lodestone website, both taking on responsibility for the issues, and explaining what Square Enix is doing to mitigate them.

Yoshida-san mentioned an increase in simultaneous login caps, the implementation of an automatic logout process, the creation of new servers, and more.

You can read the full message below.

Greetings FINAL FANTASY XIV players! This is your producer & director, Naoki Yoshida.

First and foremost, I would like to extend my thanks to all of you for your continued support!

Development on our latest expansion pack Endwalker continues as we focus on implementing content and transitioning to the check and polish phase. Expectations for 6.0 are high and have resulted in an increased interest in FINAL FANTASY XIV—especially in North America and Europe, where we are currently experiencing an extreme influx of new players.

Today, I would like to go into detail about the server congestion resulting from this influx and the steps we are taking to address it. The message is a long one, so please bear with me.

Doki Doki Literature Club Plus Surpasses 500k Copies Sold in 2 Weeks

2 years 9 months ago

Developed by Team Salvato, Doki Doki Literature Club was originally released for free on Steam and quickly became a huge hit in the horror game genre. Just last month, it was announced that the game would be re-released as Doki Doki Literature Club Plus, with redone HD visuals, as well as new story content in the form of side stories that fleshed out the four girls even further.

Announced via a press release today, DDLC Plus has been a pretty massive success for both Team Salvato and publisher Serenity Forge as the game has officially surpassed 500,000 copies sold. Serenity Forge co-founder Yang Zhenghua went on to express his gratitude to Team Salvato for entrusting the IP to them, and speaks briefly about the company’s strategy of entering the physical retail market.

“In addition to publishing on digital storefronts over the past few years, we’ve been targeting an expansion into physical distribution as we see a market opportunity in that realm. We’re very much still focused on digital as that’s where the majority of fans prefer to purchase their games, but the retail success of Doki Doki Literature Club Plus is a testament to our strategy entering the physical retail distribution space as well as a reflection of the love that fans have for this game. We’re truly grateful for Team Salvato trusting us with Monika and her friends, and humbled by the love the fans are showing for the new content.”

REPLACED Aims to Deliver a Cinematic But Thought-Provoking Cyberpunk Experience

2 years 9 months ago

It is, perhaps, indicative of Microsoft’s still-limited selection of upcoming Xbox and PC first-party titles that, for many, the most notable takeaway from its E3 2021 showcase was a side-scrolling platformer from a small Belorussian indie developer called Sad Cat Studios.

But then again, REPLACED is incredibly good-looking. It catches the eye with the same stylish 2.5D aesthetic that had folks excited about The Last Night back in 2017, and its cleverly directed trailer exudes a similarly engrossing cyberpunk ambiance — one that has seen me rewatch it time and time again over the past month or so.

The sheer number of views of REPLACED’s announcement trailers over on YouTube suggests I’m far from the only person equally as enthused; nearly 1 million views and an overwhelmingly positive like/dislike ratio is a reception that Yura Zhdanovich, game director at Sad Cat Studios, has been both delighted and slightly intimidated by.

“The trailer was deemed by a lot of people very high quality, and so we are now a bit stressed because we need to deliver everything according to this level of expectation. We can’t go and do a section of the game which looks subpar in terms of quality compared to what we’ve shown,” he told me over a Zoom call last week.

Valorant Update 3.02 Patch Notes Highlight Clipping Improvements

2 years 9 months ago

It’s patch day for Riot Games’ popular tactical FPS, Valorant, but today’s Patch 3.02 notes reveal yet another very minor update following the enormous amount of content and changes comprising Episode 3’s launch a month ago.

Riot explains that Patch 3.02 features “more bug fixes” while it continues to “evaluate those large Episode 3 changes—especially KAY/O’s overall impact.” Perhaps the most noticeable change is the reduction to clipping during gameplay, which should make for a smoother overall experience.

Here’s the full list of changes:

Game System Updates

  • Changes made to how clipping is calculated, which should result in less clipping overall in your gameplay
    • Yes, things are still going to clip, but you will see a noticeable lack of hands, melees, abilities, and general effects poking through thin walls.

Social Updates

  • Added a space between the Match Rank and Leaderboard Ranking for Immortal+ rankings in the Hover Card UI

Death’s Door Review – Absolutely CAWesome

2 years 9 months ago

Death’s Door on PC

At the beginning of 2021, I didn’t think a game about a sentient crow earning its wings as a reaper of souls would be one of my Game of the Year contenders, and yet, lo and behold here we are. Death’s Door has dropped in, delivered dollops of fast-paced, frenetic action, and left me hungry for more. Like the Outer Wilds in 2019, or the Hades in 2020, it’s this year’s indie underdog with its sights set on the big prize, and I’ll be backing it the whole way.

But let’s rewind a little bit. Death’s Door comes courtesy of the talented folk over at Acid Nerve, the team behind 2015’s boss gauntlet game, Titan Souls. This time, the developer has opted to broaden its scope, creating a sprawling hub world to explore with different bosses lying in wait in each direction. It feels more ambitious from the offset and it’s all the better for it, with its world oozing with a dark-humored charm all wrapped up in a cel-shaded art style that makes each scene appear as though it has been torn from a children’s storybook.

In all of its dry-humored dialogue and rather bleak source material, Death’s Door does manage to engage in some interesting commentary on mortality. Generally speaking, humankind’s reluctance to accept our time is finite and our desperation to leave our mark on the world before death’s call beckons us. The messaging is here but massaged under layers of dark humor, enchanted worlds, and a magical soundtrack of woodwind instruments, strings, and booming drums that perfectly capture the atmosphere of the world, complimenting the fairytale art style.

Mini Motorways Review – A Calming Commute

2 years 9 months ago

Mini Motorways Review on PC

Being stuck in traffic is never a good time. But what if you could control the traffic by placing and rearranging roads at will? Mini Motorways allows you to do just that, in the most relaxing way possible. It doesn’t have the most to offer when it comes to its length or replayability, but the game takes you on a ride that’s short and sweet.

Mini Motorways is a minimalist strategy sim that brings you to cities all around the world like Tokyo, Moscow, and Los Angeles, and puts you in direct control of their traffic networks on a much smaller scale. You’ll need to keep cars moving to their destinations for as long as you can, so avoiding traffic jams is the goal here.

Microsoft Flight Simulator – Tehran Imam Khomeini Airport Review (HomaSim)

2 years 9 months ago

Third-party developer HomaSim recently released Imam Khomeini International Airport (OIIE) in Tehran for Microsoft Flight Simulator, adding a relevant hub to a region that definitely doesn’t see many add-ons.

The airport itself is quite interesting as it shares airline traffic to and from the capital of Iran with its neighbor Mehrabad International Airport. OIIE handles all the international traffic, while Mehrabad is host to all the domestic traffic.

You could say that it’s a bit less scenic than Mehrabad, which is in the middle of the city and closer to the mountains, but it’s the perfect gateway to fly in this country that looks absolutely beautiful from above.

It’s currently available on SimMarket for approximately $18 and comes with its own installer.
