Dr. Mario World Will Be Ending Its Services Later This Year

2 years 8 months ago

Dr. Mario World, one of Nintendo’s numerous mobile games, will, unfortunately, be shutting down on Nov. 1 of this year. The mobile game originally launched on July 10 all the way back in 2019 and has reached 70,000 downloads worldwide. For players who attempt to open the app after the service ends, they will be greeted by an end-of-service notification and will not be able to play the game at all.

The Dr. Mario World official site states that players will be able to access a website to look at their play history via a new website titled Dr. Mario World Memories that has yet to launch. The website also encourages players to take a look at the in-game notices for further details on what will be taking place in their service termination.

Last year, we wrote an article detailing the overall player spending across all of Nintendo’s most popular mobile apps at the time. Taking a look at the chart provided, Dr. Mario World ranked the lowest in terms of revenue. It wasn’t even close to the second to the last game, Super Mario Run, that was estimated to have made around $78 million. Nintendo may have decided that it was appropriate to pull the plug on Dr. Mario World since it wasn’t doing so hot compared to the rest of their mobile apps.

The Simpsons Arcade Game Classic Cabinet Will Be Available for Pre-Order in August

2 years 8 months ago

The Simpsons Arcade Game is one of the most beloved classic arcade cabinets, and finally players will be able to have this iconic Konami game at their homes thanks to Arcade1Up. The company announced pre-orders for their version of the cabinet with four-player support, online co-op, and an included stool will open on Aug. 16. You can put a notification alert to be reminded of it on their official site.

Right now there’s no price confirmed for The Simpsons cabinet, but similar four-player cabinets by Arcade1Up like X-Men: The Arcade Game and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles in Time, both also from Konami, range in price between $649.99 to $699.99.

The Simpsons, as the game was called back in 1991 when it launched, is a simple beat’em up game developed by Konami based on the Simpsons TV Show, which only had 2 seasons at that time. Players can choose between Homer, Marge, Bart, and Lisa to go around Springfield and punch thugs while they try to rescue Maggie from the hands of Mr. Burns and Smithers. Characters could also join forces, unleashing special moves that differed depending on whom each one was playing as.

Microsoft “All-In” On Games as Xbox Series X|S Are Fastest-Selling MS Consoles Ever

2 years 8 months ago

Microsoft hosted its quarterly financial conference call for investors and analysts and Chief executive officer Satya Nadella and chief financial officer Amy Hood talked about the Xbox business.

Nadella declared that Microsoft is “all-in” on games, boasted the “rapid” growth of game pass, and leadership in cloud gaming.

He also mentioned that Xbox series X and S are Microsoft’s fastest-selling consoles ever, while content creators in games like Microsoft Flight Simulator and Minecraft are earning twice as much this year compared to the previous year.

“Gaming is the largest category of the entertainment category and we’re expanding our opportunity to reach the world’s 3 billion gamers wherever and whenever they play.

We’re all-in on games. At E3 last month we unveiled our biggest games lineup ever announcing 27 new titles which will all be available to game pass subscribers.

Game pass is growing rapidly and it’s transforming how people discover, connect, and play games. Subscribers play approximately 40% more games and spend 50% more than non-members.

We continue to lead in the fast-growing cloud gaming market. Just last month we made Xbox cloud gaming on PC as well as Apple phones and tablets via the browser in 22 countries, with more to come.

Millions already stream games to their desktops, tablets, and phones, and the Xbox Series S and X are our fastest-selling consoles ever with more consoles sold life-to-date than any previous generation.

Finally, we continue to grow our opportunity in the creator economy adding new ways for players to build and monetize their creations in many of our most popular games including Flight Simulator and Minecraft. Creators earn more than double what they did a year ago across our titles.

Gardevoir Is Coming to Pokemon Unite on July 28

2 years 9 months ago

Earlier today, the official Pokemon Unite Twitter account announced that the Embrace Pokemon, Gardevoir, will be coming to Pokemon Unite tomorrow (July 28). Gardevoir will be the first Pokemon added to the game since it launched on the Switch just one week ago.

The announcement didn’t say too much about Gardevoir itself, but it was revealed that they’ll be a Ranged Attacked. If you’ve played Pokemon games in the past, then that was to be expected from this creature that mainly uses special Psychic and Fairy attacks.

A short 34-second-long trailer was also released alongside the brief announcement. This short video showed off Gardevoir’s standard attacks as well as two moves. The standard attack is ranged and appears to spawn purple stones above the target and slam them down to the ground. If your opponent is fast enough, they may be able to dodge part of the attack. In the trailer, Pikachu can be seen moving out of the way before the attack lands.

Next, a move is showcased which has many different moving parts. First, Gardevoir fires an orb of energy in a straight line. Then it’s shown that if the attack doesn’t KO an opponent, it will instead temporarily stun them. And the biggest boon of all is that when the move lands, a temporary shield is put around Gardevoir that blocks special attacks. There’s no indication of what happens if the move misses or if the shield will block physical attacks.

The last move shown forms a circle in front of Gardevoir with a ball of energy in the middle. It covers a wide area, but it’s unclear how much damage it deals. It’s also unclear if this is just another one of this creature’s moves or if it’s a Unite move.

BioWare Shares Stats On What Choices Players Have Made in Mass Effect Legendary Edition

2 years 9 months ago

Mass Effect Legendary Edition has been out for a couple of months now and presumably, thousands (millions?) of major choices have been made. It’s 2021 and this is data that can be easily recorded by BioWare and today, through Mass Effect’s official Facebook and Twitter pages, they have decided to share some of the choices made by players so far.

You can check them out via the links above, or by opening up the Twitter post below. Keep in mind that this is not comprehensive of every single major choice; it’s too bad because I was curious about a lot of others, but oh well, there are still some good nuggets there.

Baldo: The Guardian Owls Release Date Set For August

2 years 9 months ago

Baldo: The Guardian Owls finally has a release date. The action/adventure game from indie Italian studio NAPS Team, which was revealed way back in 2019 and impressed with its gorgeous Studio-Ghibli-meets-Zelda aesthetic, is set to launch next month, Aug. 27.

The news comes by way of a trailer from IGN, which features a montage of gameplay and cutscenes that anybody who has been following the game’s development will recognize from previous trailer and preview coverage. Still, with an art style this good-looking it’s worth checking out:

For those not up to speed with Baldo, it’s an action/adventure title heavily inspired by classic Zelda games. Art director Fabio Capone has previously said of the game’s concept that the team “wanted a game that would be a journey to a magical world full of fantastic characters, complex dungeons to face and puzzles to solve.”

Players can look forward to Anime-inspired visuals, a large open-world environment to explore, and plenty of weird and colorful characters to interact with as they take on a myriad of quests and puzzles.

Youtuber Who Fixed Luke Skywalker Mandalorian VFX Lands Job at Lucasfilm

2 years 9 months ago

Ever since deepfake videos appeared on the scene, the idea of using them has been very polarizing. While many like the idea of being able to use this visual effects method for the sake of convenience, it also blurs the line of reality. Still, we’ve already seen them be implemented plenty in modern entertainment, including in Disney’s Mandalorian.

For those that haven’t seen it, the season 2 finale of the Mandalorian sees the return of Mark Hammil’s Luke Skywalker. The catch is that his character looks exactly like he did when the film first debuted back in 1977, as Disney used de-aging technology to line up the character’s appearance in the timeline.

Despite the fact that it did look pretty amazing, there was still an uncanny valley effect to Luke’s appearance in Mandalorian, making it pretty clear it was fake. That was until a Youtuber by the name of Shamook got their hands on it.

Street Fighter: Duel Mobile Game Teases Worldwide Release Date

2 years 9 months ago

Street Fighter: Duel is a team-building RPG for mobile devices that has only been available in China so far, but Capcom has announced it will get a worldwide release soon according to Destructoid. No specific date has been confirmed for the game on Android or iOS.

The announcement was made during a Capcom Pro Tour event where some of the best Street Fighter V: Champion Edition players from the North America East bracket were fighting to see who gets to keep going in the tournament.

If you’re not familiar with Street Fighter: Duel, It’s a mobile game very similar to The King of Fighters All-star. In these types of games, you can choose a couple of characters from a franchise and build a three-person team to fight hordes of enemies. You can get offensive characters like Ken or Ryu to lead the attack and have other support characters like Sakura shooting projectiles from the back.

There’s a fair share of story elements and cutscenes to go along with the gameplay. Players who tried to get in the Chinese version with an external Street Fighter: Duel APK without speaking the language were probably missing out on a lot of it. There are also some original characters never seen before in the franchise that make an appearance in the story and can even be recruited.

The game is developed by Capcom in a partnership with TopJoy and Tencent Games, bot companies that have a good track record on mobile games. It was originally released in November 2020 in China, and now we might be able to finally play it over here.

New Ghostbusters: Afterlife Trailer Teases Slimy Horror, Nostalgic Comedy & Spook Bustin’ Action

2 years 9 months ago

Rejoice, all you Ghostbusters fans out there! That’s right, a freshly cut trailer for the much anticipated Ghostbusters: Afterlife has officially just dropped, and it’s a real doozie. Feel free to check it out in all its slimy and nostalgic glory down below:

As you can see, Ghostbusters: Afterlife will be a follow-up to Ivan Reitman’s critically-underrated Ghosbusters II, and will be set 30 years after the events of the beloved 1989 sequel. In other words, this will be an official threequel in the paranormal action-comedy franchise.

Of course, that’s not including the critical and commercial failure of the 2016 female-led reboot, which has clearly been sidestepped in favor of connecting with the first duo of classic films. Personally, the less said about the 2016 reboot, the better, but I digress.

The good news for long-time fans is that it appears that Bill Murray, Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, Sigourney Weaver and Annie Potts will be reprising their iconic roles once again. You can even hear some familiar voices and see some familiar faces in this new trailer. (Who’s that last voice, I wonder?)

Okami’s Amaterasu Is Coming to Monster Hunter Rise Next Week as a Free DLC

2 years 9 months ago

There’s a special Okami franchise cameo coming to Monster Hunter Rise; a free DLC launching next week, July 30, adds an Amaterasu costume/armor for your Palamute companion.

The armor, called Ammy Costume, changes your companion’s appearance to that of the classic white wolf, which represents the god of the Sun in Okami. Capcom released a trailer with Amaterasu showcasing the character in action attacking other monsters and serving as a mount for the player.

Since Okami used a cel-shaded art style that resembled a painting or a cartoon, it’s pretty cool to see details like Amaterasu’s fire in realistic style on Monster Hunter Rise. It has also been confirmed a Capcom Collab 3 in August and Collabs 4 and 5 by Fall.

If you have been playing Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin on Switch you also get a Rider armor set if you have save game data on the same console. If you missed the first Capcom Collab, it was just a Palico costume of the Tsukino Felyne from Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin and you can still get it.

Despite Flaws, Cris Tales Is a Charming “Love Letter to Classic JRPGs”

2 years 9 months ago

From the moment it was announced, it became immediately apparent that Cris Tales was not going to be just another indie RPG that would inevitably get lost in the annals of time when it released. Developed by SYCK and Dreams Uncorporated, the game boasted a stunning and striking art style, complete with beautiful animations and a turn-based combat system that made use of time travel.

It was billed as a “love letter to JRPGs” and it’s not surprising to see so many draw parallels between Cris Tales and Chrono Trigger, the other much beloved turn-based JRPG that also uses time travel as its central mechanic.

Unfortunately, though, as much as Cris Tales tries to emulate the charm and simplicity of the JRPGs of yesteryear, its mechanical and technical flaws hold it back in a big way.

Time travel is the central conceit of Cris Tales; it’s baked into the story and its mechanics to varying degrees of success. Crisbell’s ability to see possible futures is what makes the game’s side quests so engaging, as you’re able to alter the course of fate for various NPCs, and immediately peek into the future to see how they’ve turned out. It’s rewarding, and genuinely makes you feel like your actions in this world do matter.

Just like in Chrono Trigger, the ability to change the future by doing things differently in the past or present is what makes this game so compelling. However, Cris Tales also peaks very early on in the game, as it’s not long at all before the player starts to feel like they’ve seen every trick up the game’s sleeve.

The Forgotten City Review – No Arrows to the Knee Here

2 years 9 months ago

The Forgotten City for PC

Before I get too far into this, let’s make one thing clear: The Forgotten City is not Skyrim. Yes, certain aspects of the game clearly look and play like the beloved action RPG, but that is simply due to the foundation it built itself upon when it was created as a mod in the game.

So, since it isn’t Skyrim, does that mean The Forgotten City is a bad game? By no means. In fact, it’s the complete opposite, as the game’s narrative-focused mystery is a breath of fresh air.

The Forgotten City begins its journey in the modern-day, placing you in the shoes of a man or woman that finds themselves on a riverside with very little idea of who they are or how they got there. Right as they awaken, your character is greeted by a mysterious stranger that seeks your help.

This brief conversation not only helps set up the exciting mystery that is to come but also serves as the basis of your character’s traits. Picking between a handful of the backstory options presented opens up new opportunities, dialogue options, and abilities that are helpful in specific situations later on in the game.

For example, the Fugitive comes with the perk of being 25 percent faster when sprinting, which comes in handy when you run into a situation that occurs quite a bit when first learning the rules of The Forgotten City. As someone who is always dialogue first, I ended up going with the Archaeologist’s perk, which grants insight into the ancient world.

More Free Content Is in Development for Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Says Nintendo

2 years 9 months ago

It’s been a slow second year in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The regular free content updates throughout 2020 added new features and events to the game, but as for 2021 so far, the only updates have been small modifications to last year’s events.

Nintendo must have heard that fans are hungry for more Animal Crossing content because today they announced that more is on the way. In a tweet, Nintendo shared two pieces of news: first, the fireworks display event from last year will be re-added to the game in an update this week, and second, more free content is currently in development for later this year.

Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s second expansion, The Siege of Paris, will release on 12th August. A press release sent to Twinfinite explains that in this song, she wanted to evoke a sense of spirituality and depth in the music, and vocals felt like the right avenue to explore. The lyrics are in Old Norse, with “Hásæti” translating to “Seat of Honor.” Check it out below:

New Information About Forza Horizon 5 Biomes Detailed Alongside Stunning Screenshots

2 years 9 months ago

Earlier today, the Xbox Wire Editor in Chief, Will Tuttle, dropped some brand-new information about the many different biomes players will be able to find in Forza Horizon 5. Many of these locations were shown off over multiple livestreams back in June, but they never discussed the finer details about these places.

A few places were talked about during their E3 programming surrounding this game, but we now know the specific names of all 11 biomes along with a few other facts. The biggest being that season will be returning in Forza Horizon 5. Tuttle went into detail on how this returning feature will have an impact on the new game.

“…each of the 11 unique biomes will transition though the seasons differently. As an example, spring means the rainy season in the jungles and farmland of Mexico, while summer could bring intense tropical thunderstorms along the coasts.”

After introducing the return of season and how they’ll interact with biomes, the names of the 11 different areas were detailed. While exploring Mexico in Forza Horizon 5, players will be able to explore the Canyon, Tropical Coast, Farmland, Arid Hills, Jungle, Living Desert, Rocky Coast, Sand Desert, Swamp, Urban City of Guanajuato, and Volcano biomes.

Along with the new details about the biomes in Forza Horizon 5, Tuttle also shared a unique fact about each one. The list below summarizes the key details of each location as described by Tuttle.

A New Live-Action Pokemon Series is Reportedly in Production at Netflix

2 years 9 months ago

According to Variety, a new live-action Pokemon series is reportedly in the early stages of development over at Netflix.

The Variety report mentions nothing in the way of plot, and has very few details to share at this moment, but does tie Joe Henderson as a writer and executive producer. Henderson is the co-showrunner and executive producer of Lucifer, a show that originally ran on Fox and was eventually picked up by Netflix for more seasons.

Variety attempted to get an official confirmation from Henderson and Netflix, but neither responded yet as of the time of this writing. While readers should always take these kinds of rumors with a grain of salt, Variety has been fairly reliable in the entertainment sphere.

As Variety points out, Netflix has been the home to other Pokemon content in the past such as Indigo League, so it’s certainly within the realm of possibility for sure.

Kids that started with the original Red and Blue games are now well into their thirties. A show that is live-action, and potentially a little bit more mature than the long-running animated series, or at the very least at the same level as Detective Pikachu, could definitely be well-received by people in their late 20s, 30s and beyond, so it’s definitely not a crazy idea if true.

My Hero Academia Battles Demon Slayer in This Sick Bakugou vs Inosuke Fan Animation

2 years 9 months ago

My Hero Academia and Demon Slayer are two of the most popular anime in the medium right now, thanks in part to a roster of amazing and diverse characters. And while we may love our positive, go-getter protagonists from each show, it’s the resident hotheads, Bakugo and Inosuke, that keep us coming back for more.

As a way of celebrating each of these firey characters, one fan decided to animate what a brawl between the two might look like. Spoiler alert, it is pretty damn amazing.

As you can see in the post above, animator Dan Mark Lazaga created an epic fight between the two characters, titled Boar vs Sparks. While brief, only lasting 18 seconds, the clip boasts some pretty intense sakuga that sees Bakugo get the upper hand over Inosuke.

NEO: The World Ends With You Review – A Looped Beat

NEO: The World Ends With You Review on PS4

NEO: The World Ends With You is a sequel that fans have been waiting 14 years for, and this continuation won’t disappoint with its introduction of cool new concepts and characters along with a great soundtrack. Despite these strengths, however, its repetitive gameplay tends to miss the mark at times.

In this sequel, you’re brought back into the Reapers’ Game — a week-long competition in which the dead can compete in order to get a second chance at life. And this time, you play as Rindo Kanade. He’s a bit antisocial, living life with his face in his phone unless he’s talking to his close friend Tosai “Fret” Furesawa.

The prologue brings you into the Reapers’ Game suddenly, as Rindo and Fret are hanging out in Shibuya when they witness a number of Players fighting dangerous creatures known as Noise in the street. Once they become Players themselves, their journey begins as they need to use powers called psychs to complete missions given to them through the Reaper Networking Service (RNS) app that’s been recently installed on their phones.

The setup in NEO: The World Ends With You is quick and wastes no time before throwing you into a parallel version of Shibuya called the Underground (or UG for short) where the Reapers’ Game takes place. Eventually, Rindo and Fret join up with a girl named Nagi Usui and a familiar face from the first game, Sho Minamimoto, to form a team called the Wicked Twisters as they compete in the Reapers’ Game against other squads.

Apex Legends Emergence Gameplay Trailer Shows New Rampage LMG

2 years 9 months ago

Apex Legends Season 10, Emergence, is on its way, and Respawn is getting ready for its Aug. 3 launch with new trailers. Today’s video is a gameplay trailer that shows off the new Rampage LMG, new Legend, World’s Edge map changes, and more.

The Rampage LMG is one of the most notable additions to Apex Legends in Emergence, outside of the new Legend, Seer. The LMG was invented by Rampart, and it can turn Thermite Grenades into objects that can be fired at enemies. We see this in the trailer as the gun seems to shoot down a door, which isn’t usually possible.

We also get a quick look at Seer’s abilities in-game. Just like what was stated at EA Play, Seer can track enemies using his little drones and special eyes (hence the name). He can track their footsteps and use a heartbeat sensor while aiming down the sights on any gun.

The trailer also gives us a look at some major changes that have come to World’s Edge, along with a few Battle Pass cosmetics that’ll be coming next season as well.

You can have a look at all of the upcoming additions to the game in the gameplay trailer below:

This Awesome Mario’s Fury Bowser Clay Sculpture Glows in the Dark

2 years 9 months ago

Super Mario 3D World was a standout Nintendo Switch titled when it was released earlier this year, as it brought an updated flavor to the beloved version of the game that debuted on the Wii U back in 2013. Alongside touching up the original, the addition of Bower’s Fury to this beloved Mario game also helped propel it to critical acclaim.

The Bowser-focused expansion saw players fight a giant, mutated version of the well-known Mario villain, tasking them with working together with Bowser Jr in order to revert the even more evil form of King Koopa to his original size. To commemorate this epic addition to the series, Redditor Willo150 posted the following images of their clay sculpture of Fury Bowser from Super Mario 3D World on the NintendoSwitch subreddit.
