8 Best Romance Anime to Watch With Your Partner

2 years 10 months ago

Anime series are easy to binge in just a few sittings, but there’s nothing more enjoyable than watching one with your partner or significant other. Here are our picks for the best romance anime you can watch with your partner.

Toradora!

Best Romance Anime

romance anime

Toradora! is one of the most popular romance anime series around, and for good reason too. Taiga Aisaka is one of the most popular tsundere female characters in the genre, and she’s balanced out pretty well by the main protagonist Ryuji Takasu, a mild-mannered boy who helps keep her grounded.

Both Ryuki and Taiga develop crushes on each other’s best friends, and they work together to help each other out by setting them up in romantic situations. Over time, they grow closer together and find that they don’t really hate each other’s company after all.

It’s a cheesy and somewhat cliched premise, but it’s cute nonetheless and will definitely be a good time for anyone looking to enjoy a series with their partners.

We learn that during the “Youth Drama” part of the game, protagonist Takayuki Yagami is looking for a pretext to investigate reports of bullying at Seiryo High School, which is at the foundation of the current case.

He learns from a student named Kyoko Amasawa that her Mystery Research Club is about to be closed because its advisor left and takes advantage of a school rule that allows even outsiders to apply as club advisors.

After being tested by Amasawa herself, he becomes the club’s advisor and hears about an urban legend told among the students about “The Professor,” a mysterious man who runs a shady website where students can post their wishes and have them granted, leading them to become delinquents.

To uncover the truth, Yagami will try to infiltrate various communities within the school that are rumored to include delinquents under the spell of “The Professor.”

The Mystery Research Club is dedicated to reading and critiquing mystery novels from all over the world. Its founder, Kyoko Amasawa, is driven by her extreme curiosity for mystery that leads her to go beyond reading, She often investigates incidents within and beyond the school’s borders disregarding possible dangers and often getting in trouble with the teachers. Of course, her encounter with Yagami, a real detective, adds fuel to the fire of her curiosity.

Persona Anniversary Site Teases Announcements; First Reveal in September

2 years 10 months ago

Today Atlus opened the official website of the 25th-anniversary celebrations of the Persona series. Apparently, there is a lot to look forward to.

The website teases seven reveals including commemorative merchandise, events, collaborations, and games. Of course, this doesn’t mean that we can expect the reveal of seven games.

The first reveal has been teased for September. On the other hand, the rest doesn’t have a date, besides the fact that they’ll come between 2021 and the fall of 2022.

It’s possible that the first reveal will happen on September 20, which is specifically the 25th anniversary of the release of Revelations: Persona in Japan on September 20, 1996.

The website confirms that shipments of the Persona series have passed 15 million in 2021. It also expresses gratitude for the fan’s supports over the years and explains that Atlus has prepared a series of fun events between September 2021 and fall 2022.

The latest Persona game released is Persona 5 Strikers, but it wasn’t developed by Atlus. If we consider only mainline games, Persona 5 was launched all the way back in 2016, while its improved version Persona 5 Royal came in 2019.

You could certainly argue that it’s pretty much time to hear about what’s next for the series.

Alligator Loki Gets Hilarious Subtitles in This Fan-Made Video

2 years 10 months ago

Warning: The following article dives into spoilers for Disney’s Loki up until episode 5. If you haven’t seen the show up until this point and don’t want anything spoiled, come back when you’ve caught up. Otherwise, enjoy!

Disney’s Loki has been a strange and wild ride so far, as the show follows the variant Loki that escaped during the events of Avenger’s Endgame. That crazy events include everything from time travel to items that can rewind a person to their last location.

Easily the most interesting part of the show comes about when the show’s main Loki begins to meet other variant versions of himself. These include versions that are considerably old, a female, a president, and even a child version that killed Thor. All of these pale in comparison to the might that is Alligator Loki.

This variant is introduced alongside a few others, though there isn’t exactly evidence to discern that he actually is a Loki outside of the helm he wears. It also doesn’t help matters that he can’t talk. Luckily, Youtuber Supercuts Delight has fixed that issue, adding in some helpful subtitles, as you can see in the video below.

I Am Once Again Asking Level-5 & Sony To Make a Dark Cloud 3

2 years 10 months ago

Last week, developer Level-5 further hinted at their upcoming new JRPG game. They opened up a developer recruitment page and shared a new piece of concept art. It’s likely the same new game that they teased late last year. Level-5 will often refer to unannounced projects, getting fans speculating as to what their new game will be. For fans of Level-5 going back to the PS2-era, there’s perhaps no other series that comes up more whenever Level-5 is brought up than a hypothetical Dark Cloud 3.

Dark Cloud released way back in 2000 for the PS2 in conjunction with Sony and it instantly put Level-5 on the map as a legitimate JRPG developer. Their debut game was a creative mix of Zelda-like action RPG combat, with deep weapon customization that saw you level up and “evolve” your weapons into new ones using materials, and a unique world-building mechanic that tasked players with rebuilding towns and attending to the needs of its denizens.

The game was incredibly popular and it was followed up with a second game, Dark Chronicle (Dark Cloud 2 in North America), which was also well-received.

Rather than continue in the Dark Cloud series after two successful games, Level-5 moved on and never looked back. Level-5 has released dozens of games in Japan and worldwide since Dark Cloud 2 in 2002 but all were new games not within the beloved action RPG series.

Every time a new game is teased, there are hordes of fans like myself hoping and praying that this will be the time that Dark Cloud 3 gets its chance. Each and every time, though, all of those people are left disappointed.

Minecraft Dungeons Echoing Void DLC, Ultimate Edition, & Free Update Set to Release Later This Month

2 years 10 months ago

Mojang Studios has today announced some exciting news for fans of its RPG spin-off Minecraft Dungeons in the form of a premium new DLC expansion, free new content, and an Ultimate Edition containing the entire Dungeons experience in one package. All three will launch later this month, July 28.

The premium DLC expansion is called Echoing Void, in which you’ll “ace bold new enemies, collect legendary gear, and make your way through challenging missions to put a stop to the untold threats that lurk in the dark dimension in which Endermen reside.”

The free content update, meanwhile, is called The Gauntlet of Gales, “a unique maze-like mission that puts your skills to the test through tricky trials and perplexing puzzles! This gauntlet can be accessed through your mission map and contains challenges that require everything from wit and cunning to endurance and determination.”

Finally, a Minecraft Dungeons: Ultimate Edition will also launch on July 28, containing all six DLCs –Jungle Awakens, Creeping Winter, Howling Peaks, Flames of the Nether, Hidden Depths, and Echoing Void – at a lower price than if purchased separately. Although, there’s no word yet on what the Ultimate Edition will actually cost.

Minecraft Dungeons celebrated 10 million players back in February. Twinfinite reviewed the game at launch and enjoyed the game but ultimately felt it was lacking in content. Of course, Mojang has added plenty since then.

Microsoft Flight Simulator – New Airbus A320 Announced; CRJ 900 & 1000 Get Final Livery List; Adelaide Airport Released

2 years 10 months ago

Today third-party developers had new reveals and releases in store for Microsoft Flight Simulator, including a brand new airliner.

New developer Fenix Simulation (I say new, but that simply indicates the company, as it includes veteran developers) announced its Airbus A320.

The aircraft, featuring the CFM engines, is already in a quite advanced state of development and it’s being currently alpha tested.

The developers have talked about the level of fidelity and features that we can expect. You can read a lot more on their website.

“We believe this to be the most comprehensive and complete A320 simulator available to desktop consumers. Not just for MSFS, but across any platform. We have all the usual suspects you’d find in a full-fidelity simulation; 100% custom ground-up code, a bespoke (and complete) autoflight suite, ARINC424 rendering, full “physical simulation” of fluids and pneumatics (the air-mass simulation is a lot of fun, can’t wait for the update post specifically covering the pneumatic systems!), and a completely custom navigation environment that ensures reliable operation for the autoflight system (more on this later).

Our MCDU also has everything you know and love from A320 representations in the past, but with so much more; lateral offsets, ETPs, RTAs, and step climbs – features as yet unavailable in even the most complex X-Plane or ESP-based Airbus add-ons to date. “

We also hear that there are already over 200 livery variations ready and the navigation suite is completely independent of the default one in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

4 Anime Character Deaths That Were Completely Pointless

2 years 10 months ago

Spoiler warning: The following article contains heavy spoilers for Akame ga Kill, Seven Deadly Sins, Naruto, Naruto Shippuden, and the entire Dragon Ball series. If you don’t want any character deaths in these anime to be spoiled for you, stop reading now

Whether it be of natural causes or in a fight, character death is a staple storytelling device in anime. Regardless of if they are a good or bad guy, killing someone off is usually an easy way to help push a compelling narrative.

Just because death is usually inevitable in a lot of anime, doesn’t mean it needs to be pointless. In fact, a meaningful death in these shows, while painful, usually serves to make them that much better, as they add stakes and drama to the conflict.

Unfortunately, the following four anime deaths did exactly the opposite of that. Not only were these deaths not meaningful, but they were also in fact detrimental, as every single one of them could be avoided with common sense or better writing.

So without further delay, these are four anime character deaths that were completely pointless.

Legend of Mana Interview – Producer Discusses the Remaster, Its Development, & The Future

2 years 10 months ago

Legend of Mana has been brought back to modern platforms by Square Enix thanks to the recent remaster.

This is just the latest of many initiatives to give a new lease on life to several classic games in the publisher’s beloved lineup.

To learn more about the choices behind its development and catch a glimpse of what the future holds for the series, we interviewed producer Masaru Oyamada.

Giuseppe: Remastering or remaking games that have been a relevant part of many fans’ youth is certainly a huge responsibility. How do you approach this task, and is it more pressure than making a completely new game?

Masaru Oyamada: After Koichi Ishii, the creator of the Mana series, left SQUARE ENIX, the Mana series took a break for a while. I took over the role of series producer from 2014 and onwards. I had always been a fan who loved the Mana series, so I’ve been working on remaking/remastering with hopes of making titles that I’ve loved since long ago, become playable on current consoles all around the world.

The Witcher 3 Getting Gorgeous Yennefer Kunoichi Figure

2 years 10 months ago

CD Projekt RED has revealed a beautiful figure dedicated to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt heroine Yennefer of Vengerberg.

This figure is rather special as it translates Yennefer in a Japanese-like setting, dressing her up as a Kunoichi (basically a female ninja).

She can be pre-ordered at CD Projekt’s own gear store for $380 plus shipping fees. The estimate shipping window is December 2021.

The figure designed directly by CD Projekt RED is made of polystone and she’s 17”-tall.

“Few can master the shadow arts of ninjutsu; to even come close, one must hold near-unattainable levels of fortitude, skill, and inner strength. Here, with this 12-inch hand-painted figure, we envision Yennefer as a powerful kunoichi from ancient Japan — finely tuned to the demands of a life shrouded in such deadly darkness.

Whether a magic-wielding sorceress or stealthy warrior of the night, Yennefer is always prepared for a battle.
Guided by her two-tailed nekomata familiar, Yennefer finds herself adrift atop a ruined temple roof, submerged in the waters of a long-abandoned battlefield marked by a Wolf School nobori banner.

With a ninjatō blade on her back, anchored to her lilac-toned shinobi-shōzoku, and tekkō-kagi hand claws at the ready, she plans her next move — keeping her target always in sight…”

You can check out what she looks like in the video and images below.

2 years 10 months ago

Today Netflix announced the debut date of the upcoming The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf animated film.

The film will be available on the popular streaming service on August 23, 2021.

It focuses on the origin story of Geralt of Rivia’s mentor and friend Vesemir.

It’s directed by Kwang Il Han, produced by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, and written by Beau DeMayo. The animation is by South Korean studio Mir, known for The Legend of Korra, Voltron: Legendary Defender, Dota: Dragon’s Blood, and more.

Below you can read a brief official description from Netflix itself.

“The world of “The Witcher” expands in this 2D anime film that explores a powerful new threat facing the Continent.”

Do keep in mind that despite the text above, this is actually not an “anime” film, there’s no Japanese involvement in it. Netflix has simply semi-recently taken to use the well-known term “anime” as a catchword to popularize cartoons from other parts of the world.

Final Fantasy XIV Is Getting Its Own Fried Chicken (Again) and Daruma Dolls

2 years 10 months ago

Square Enix is hosting a 14-hour-long livestream to celebrate Final Fantasy XIV, and a couple of interesting collaborations have been announced.

First of all, Japanese convenience store chain Lawson will get another chance at creating the game’s official Karaage Kun fried chicken.

The delicious (I’m assuming, but the original flavor was good) nuggets will come in a special “Light and Dark Crystal Flavor.” It’ll actually include two flavored layers, one will taste like dark petter, and the second will be flavored with light tartar sauce.

Of course, the flavor has been better by the Final Fantasy XIV team.

For something a bit more traditional, the game is also getting a duo of traditional-like Daruma Dolls crafted by the prestigious Yoshida Daruma Company that has been creating them for over a century.

Pre-orders in Japan will be limited, as the daruma will be hand-painted. No info was promised about an (unlikely) western release. The price will be 3,500 yen (approximately $32).

The product will be delivered with blank eyes, as you’re traditionally supposed to paint your own.

You can check out both products in the gallery.

Final Fantasy XVI Gets Small Dev Update; Yoko Taro’s Mysterious New Game Won’t Be for Smartphones

2 years 10 months ago

NieR creator Yoko Taro and producer Yosuke Saito have been teasing a new game for quite a while, providing small bits of information from time to time.

Today, during a livestream hosted by Square Enix, they announced another, and this one may make quite a few people happy. The new game won’t be for smartphones.

Apparently, the next announcement will be about the game’s art director, but we’ll have to wait to know more.

Earlier this year we learned that the new game will feel “a bit indie” and it will be download only (but it might get a special package). It will feel somewhat nostalgic but also new, and it’s difficult to explain.

Back in May Yoko Taro and Saito-san announced that the music will be composed by Keiichi Okabe and other composers from his music production studio Monaca. Okabe-san has been a regular in Yoko Taro’s games, including Nier, Nier Automata, and Drakengard 3.

At the moment, nothing else is known about this mysterious game, nor we know when the next announcement will be made.

Incidentally, speaking of Yoko Taro and Yosuke Saito, earlier today we learned from Final Fantasy XIV director and producer Naoki Yoshida that there is interest in possibly continuing the story of Yorha: Dark Apocalypse. As long as the budget for it can be secured, something like that could be done.
