Garena Free Fire Becomes First Mobile BR Game to Hit 1 Billion Downloads

2 years 10 months ago

Garena Free Fire is celebrating a record-breaking milestone today as the developer/publisher has announced that it has become the first mobile battle royale title to achieve 1 billion lifetime downloads via the Google Play store.

The news comes by way of a message over on LinkedIn, which reads as follows:

Free Fire has been downloaded more than 1 billion times on the Google Play Store! Free Fire is the first mobile battle royale game to achieve this milestone, and joins a small group of mobile games who have done so.

This would not have been possible without the support of Free Fire’s global community of users. We will host a special in-game event in August – in conjunction with the game’s 4th anniversary – to celebrate this milestone with you.

To our Free Fire communities around the world – thank you!

Free Fire has long been one of the most popular mobile BR games, especially in east Asia where the lion’s share of its player base resides. This time last year, Garena stated that Free Fire hit a peak of 80 million concurrent players and that the game’s success had played a significant role in helping the company to achieve a near 58% year-on-year revenue increase to $913.9 million.

Rainbow Six Extraction Has Been Delayed to January 2022

2 years 10 months ago

Yet another major AAA video game has been pushed back to 2022, and this time it’s Ubisoft’s cooperative tactical shooter Rainbow Six Extraction. No particular reason for the delay was stated. The company simply explained today in an update over on its website that the development team is “embracing the opportunity to take additional time to bring this vision to life in the way it deserves in January 2022.”

The full message reads as follows:

“Our ambition with Rainbow Six Extraction is to deliver a full-fledged AAA experience that changes the way you play and think about cooperative games. With unique features like Missing In Action or The Sprawl, every mission is set to be a tense and challenging experience in which you’ll lead the elite operators of Rainbow Six in a fight against a lethal and evolving alien threat.

We are embracing the opportunity to take additional time to bring this vision to life in the way it deserves in January 2022. We are confident this will ensure Rainbow Six Extraction is the immersive, cooperative, and thrilling experience we set out to create, and the one you aspire to play.

We look forward to sharing more with you very soon!”

Extraction was originally slated to launch on Sept. 16.

For those who aren’t up to speed with Extraction, it mashes up the tactical FPS action of Siege with co-operative PvE alien-slaying. Players are able to team up in squads of up to three players or solo queue as they choose from one of Rainbow Six Siege’s 18 operators and take on various missions. The game is essentially a larger scale version of the “Outbreak” limited time mode that was featured in Siege back in 2018.

He may be an ordinary student, but his ability to visualize death has altered his very perception of it.
The aftereffects of his accident, combined with the toll his eyes take, has left him with chronic anemia.

Only True Fans Can Ace this Hunger Games Trivia Quiz

2 years 10 months ago

Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games series made quite a splash when YA novels like Twilight and Harry Potter were all the rage back in the early 2010s. It was followed up with even more YA novels like the Divergent series and various others that were considerably less successful, but The Hunger Games still stand the test of time as one of the best novels and movie adaptations of that era.

It features a rich world with complex lore and world-building, not to mention its diverse cast of characters all complete with their own motivations. It’s nuanced in its storytelling, which explains why the series has such a diehard fan base.

If you think you know everything there is to know about the series, test your knowledge in this trivia quiz we’ve put together. Do note that the quiz spans all three books and its four movie adaptations, and also requires you to have a good understanding of Panem’s history and dark past. If you think you have what it takes to ace it, give the quiz a whirl.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Brisbane, O.R. Tambo, Aysén, & Aarhus Airports Get New Screenshots; Sumburgh Released

2 years 10 months ago

Today Third-party developers released a lot of assets about airports coming for Microsoft Flight Simulator, while another has been released.

First of all, Orbx shared a first look at the brand new Brisbane Airport (YBBN) in Queensland, Australia.

As the third-busiest airport in the country, this is certainly a relevant addition to the sim, and another step in Orbx’s quest to improve the country where it’s based.

“Brisbane Airport is the work of our experienced team in Havant who have overhauled the airport with a considerable number of updates since our original 2010 release on the ESP platform, effectively rebuilding the airport from scratch. Built using current modelling techniques, Physically Based Rendering (PBR) complements our realistic models with highly detailed textures.

YBBN Brisbane Airport v2 brings the airport to today’s standard with an accurate layout of all taxiways and airport buildings. This includes the new parallel runway (01L/19R) that opened in one year ago.”

New for Honor Trailer Reveals Kyoshin as Next Playable Hero Type

2 years 10 months ago

Today on the Ubisoft YouTube channel, a reveal trailer was released featuring the brand-new Kyoshin hero coming to For Honor. Although this character appears to be another katana-wielder, much like the Samurai, there’s a bit more to the Kyoshin.

The first and most noticeable difference between Kyoshin and Samurai is the lack of ornate armor. The first few Kyoshin shown in the trailer has what appears to be pretty basic fabric clothing with different headgear like a headband, an oni mask, a thief’s mask, and more. Just like the clothing, the katanas of the Kyoshin are much less grandiose and even lack a guard.

Fairly early on in the trailer, there’s a short hand-drawn segment that talks about the duality of essentially every human having the capacity for good or evil within them. The trailer mentions that this is a crux while simultaneously being a gift. And this is where the For Honor trailer gets into the more mystical side of the Kyoshin that further separates them from the Samurai.

Besides the typical slashes and stabs of this katana-wielding hero, there’s also clearly some kind of mystical presence that powers their abilities. Part of the trailer features a Kyoshin slashing through the air while black streaks follow behind their attacks. A short segment that features a Kyoshin defeating a Samurai in a single attack also shows off a magical-looking wheel appear behind the Kyoshin.

It’s unclear what these abilities do or how they’ll be implemented in gameplay, but so far the Kyoshin looks like a pretty dangerous hero to meet in the field of battle.

New Aragami 2 Dev Diary Showcases New Stealth & Combat Mechanics

2 years 10 months ago

Since delaying the game earlier this year, developer Lince Works has been busily polishing its anticipated upcoming sequel Aragami 2, and today a new developer diary video offers a good look at the fruits of that labor. In particular, the new stealth and combat mechanics which expand the already excellent gameplay of the original.

As you’ll see, Aragami 2 is set to “push the boundaries of what players can do with movement, abilities, and use of powers,” as explained by Lince Work’s Gina Campoy. That is achieved with a completely new moveset that puts an onus on fast, slick movement to make you feel like a ninja as you swoop from rooftop to rooftop taking down unsuspecting enemies. Supernatural moves (Shadow Powers), such as the Shadow Leap, help players navigate Aragami 2’s larger maps faster and in a more responsive way than in the original.

There are eight Shadow Powers and 16 passive abilities in the full game, and you’ll get a decent look at a handful in the demonstration sequence below.

Aragami 2 will launch digitally on Sept. 17, 2021, for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, as well as on PC via Steam.

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide Release Delayed to Spring 2022

2 years 10 months ago

In the statement above, Fatshark CEO and Co-Founder Martin Wahlund stated that they wanted to deliver the best game they possibly could, and that they’d need more time to do so. While the news of a delay is unfortunate, fans of the series responded to the tweet showing their support, letting the team know that this is the right choice and that it is always better not to rush. In the meantime, you can check out the official Steam listing for the game right down below.

Gundam Evolution Announced for PC; It’s a Free to Play FPS With Mecha from Gundam Series

Today Bandai Namco had an interesting announcement to make for fans of the popular Mobile Suit Gundam franchise, Gundam Evolution.

The game is a free-to-play first-person shooter for PC (Windows 10 is required) that will let you choose a mecha from the franchise and wreak havoc on 6 vs. 6 battles.

There are three modes, point capture, domination, and destruction, and voice chat is supported.

The mecha announced so far are the RX-78-2 Gundam, the RX-80PR Pale Rider, the MS-06 ZAKUⅡ, the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos, the MSN-04 Sazabi, the MSA-005 Methuss, the RGM-79SP GM Sniper II, the NRX-044 Asshimar, the ZGMF-XX09T Dom Trooper, the WD-M01 ∀ Gundam, the RX-75 Guntank, and the RGM-79 GM.

Every mobile suit has its own abilities and powerful skills named G-Maneuvers. If you tell me this feels a lot like Valorant with Gundams (and slightly larger teams), I wouldn’t blame you.

New The Witcher: Monster Slayer Trailer Gives an Overview of its Gameplay Loop

2 years 10 months ago

As reported last week, developer CD Projekt Red’s upcoming location-based mobile spin-off game The Witcher: Monster Slayer is fast approaching its July 21 release date, and so to dial up the hype the studio has today released a new trailer that provides a dramatized glimpse of its gameplay loop in action.

As you’ll see in the clip below, it’s more or less a Pokemon GO-like affair, with players tasked with finding and slaying monsters that appear through your device overlaid against real-life scenery.

One aspect of the combat that is rather cool is that monster behavior is represented realistically in the game according to the franchise’s lore. For example, Striga’s only appear at night, which means you’ll have to wait until nightfall if you’re hunting one. So, expect your local parks to become full of wandering monster slayers with their phones out from the end of the month…

For those not up to speed with the game, here’s a synopsis:
