How to Get Beehives in Dinkum

1 year 8 months ago

Dinkum features various activities, quests, chores, and structures to craft. There’s a quiet comfort to the game as you gather the necessary materials for the next big project, like a bridge. And as you wander about, you’ll likely come across beehives. No, they aren’t decorative and do serve a purpose, so it’s absolutely worth knowing how to get beehives in Dinkum.

How to Get Beehives in Dinkum

Beehives in Dinkum will always be stuck high up in trees. If you’re hoping to retrieve beehives, the trees have to come down. That means wielding your trusty axe, standing firm, and chopping away. Of course, Dinkum’s license system may prevent progress before you can get one.

To make any progress in Dinkum, you need licenses to perform specific tasks. Want to use shovels and dig holes? There’s a license for that. Want to go treasure hunting? You’ll need the Metal Detecting License. In this case of felling trees, you’ll need the Logging License.

  1. Obtain Permit Points.

In order to purchase the Logging License, you need Permit Points. You can acquire some by completing Milestones. One example is catching bugs.

  2. Purchase the Logging License and an Axe from Fletch and John, respectively.

The Logging License costs 250 Permit Points; an Axe costs 1,200 Dinks.

South of the Circle has some of the best performances in games I've ever seen

1 year 8 months ago

Doug Cockle said something to me once that always stayed with me. He said when he recorded his lines for The Witcher games - he played the English Geralt of Rivia - he did them alone. He never recorded with any of the other actors - he barely met them. And I found that so strange - I still do. But I get it. I understand that in order to give meaningful dialogue choice, you need to cut performances up so you can stick them back together again in the way the player wants. And the greater the interactivity, the more you need to do it.

The problem with this is disjointedness: pauses in conversations where there would normally be none, mismatched tone where there wouldn't normally be any. Sometimes it's obvious, sometimes it's not. And however good the performer - and direction and sticking back together - the result is never quite what it's aiming to be: natural. Because it's not.

South of the Circle got me thinking about this again. It's a smallish game that came out on Apple Arcade a couple of years ago and resurfaced on PC and Switch this week, and I'm very glad it did, because it has some of the best performances in a game I have ever witnessed.

That Rare Moment When Critics & Audiences See Perfectly Eye to Eye on an MCU Movie

1 year 8 months ago

We’ve had a spate of critically derided movies and TV shows make their way into the upper echelons of the streaming charts as of late. From lousy Mark Wahlberg sci-fi thrillers to awful survival shows to dreadful Gina Carano action capers. But it seems that one specific MCU film has done the seemingly impossible and placated both fans and critics alike.

That’s right, we’re talking about Thor: Love and Thunder which has managed to nab a 7.2 IMDB rating (which is a score based on the website’s own user votes) and a 72 percent Critical Rating over on Rotten Tomatoes (H/T, FlixPatrol). From the looks of things, the fourth Thor movie has resonated well with both general audiences and film critics which is a very rare thing, indeed.

Written and directed by the award-winning Taika Waititi, who cut his teeth crafting quirky drama-comedy pics like 2007’s Eagle vs. Shark and 2014’s What We Do in the Shadows before transitioning into more Hollywood-centric movies, Thor: Love and Thunder is the second Thor project that the New Zealand-based filmmaker has helmed.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 images leak following NFL event, DMZ all but confirmed

NFL team the LA Rams may be feeling a little sheepish this morning.

Following an event that allowed the team early access to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, several images and snippets from the game have made their way onto the internet. You could say, these leaks are ram-pant.

The first image shows off the game's upcoming multiplayer lobby, which you can see in the tweet below. This image was originally shared by NFL player Cameron Dicker, although they clearly realised the error of their ways and swiftly removed the shot from their socials. This is the internet, however, and of course once it was out there, the Call of Duty community got wind of it and saved it for posterity.

Nintendo blames component shortages as Switch sales slow

Nintendo has blamed component shortages for a further slowing of Switch hardware sales, which have impacted the company's overall sales and profit for the past financial quarter.

It's not all bad news, however. Switch game sales remain brisk, with more games sold to consumers year-on-year and a solid start for Nintendo Switch Sports (which has now notched up 4.84m copies).

Forager: How to Get Dino Egg

1 year 8 months ago

How to Get Dino Egg in Forager

Forager is a deep survival game that sees you explore the world, finding items, completing quests, and building structures. To complete a lot of the quests in the game, you’ll need to get your hands on specific items. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get a Dino Egg in Forager.

What a Dino Egg Does & Why You Need One

In Forager, the Dino Egg item is a rare artifact item that you can find in the world and is used in certain quests. To be precise, you will need one to finish the Druid’s Tree House 3 quest in the Grass Biome. Without one of them, you will not be able to progress past that quest.

Where You Get Them in Forager

In the game, each of the biomes has a particular rare artifact that can be found by digging. The Dino Egg is that rare item in the fire biome.

You will need a shovel and to use a digging spot, which is unlocked by getting the Farming skill. The spots appear randomly around the world in each biome but you can use the Excavator Shrine buff to spawn more spots for a short amount of time.

When digging in the fire biome, you’ve simply got to hope that the Dino Egg drops instead of Bone, Sand, or Coal Gems. You could also consume a Liquid Luck potion which increases the drop rate of rare items for a short period of time. They’re crafted at a Cauldron and require the following ingredients:

  • 1x Amethyst
  • 5x Nightshade
  • 5x Bone
  • 5x Bottled Beetle

You can also increase the amount of Dino Eggs you get at any given time, you’ll want to upgrade your shovel or put some lighthouses down nearby.

Switch: Shortages Hurt Sales, But Nintendo Expects to Recover By the Holidays

1 year 8 months ago

Nintendo Switch shortages should get better by the end of the year, after supply constraints hurt Nintendo's hardware sales in the last quarter.

The latest earnings report from Nintendo confirms that the ongoing chip shortage has been having an impact on sales, but the company reassured investors that it should be easier for fans to get their hands on a Switch by the holidays.

“Due to delays in the procurement of components such as semiconductors this year, we have not been able to conduct production as planned,” confirmed Nintendo. “However, we expect procurement to gradually improve from late summer towards autumn, giving us a clearer outlook regarding production for the remaining calendar year.”

According to the report, Nintendo's Q1 (April-June) Switch sales fell by 22.9% year-on-year, selling 3.43 million units. “Production was impacted by factors such as the global shortage of semiconductor components, resulting in a decrease in hardware shipments and subsequent decline in overall sales,” the company said.

Thankfully, Nintendo promises it’s getting on top of things to sort out supply issues by the holidays. “In preparation for the holiday season, we will leverage appropriate means of shipment, and work to deliver as many Nintendo Switch systems as possible to consumers in every region.”

As a result, Nintendo has made no changes to its financial forecast for this fiscal year.

EA Says Single Player Games Are a 'Really, Really Important' Part Of Its Portfolio After Controversy

1 year 8 months ago

It looks as though EA is still trying to make amends for that joke about single-player games, with CEO Andrew Wilson calling them "really, really important."

During a recent earnings call, EA CEO Andrew Wilson reassured investors that single-player games are still a major part of the company's output… despite what it may say on Twitter.

“As we think about single-player games, we think it's a really, really important part of the overall portfolio that we deliver in fulfillment of those core motivations.”

EA recently came under fire after making a controversial tweet that mocked single-player games. The tweet itself was a poorly-executed response to a recent meme, but soon had gamers and industry figureheads alike wondering why EA had posted it. After all, the company has published plenty of critically-acclaimed single player games including Mass Effect: Legendary Edition, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and The Sims 4.

Earlier today during the Pokemon Presents stream, it was announced that four Ultra Beasts will become more widely available to Pokemon GO trainers. Each Pokemon GO Fest event this Summer has focused on a different Ultra Beast, and it looks like the Finale will bring together all four that have been released so far.

The Pokemon Go Fest Finale event will take place on August 27 from 6 AM until 10 PM local time and will feature wild Pokemon that aren’t usually seen out in the wild. The details were a bit sparse as far as which Pokemon will appear, but like past events, it’s expected to be revealed before the big day arrives.

Additionally, Shaymin’s Sky Forme will be coming to the game during the GO Fest Finale as a part of the Special Research for the event. The Land Forme was previously released as a part of the other Go Fest events.

As for the main event, the Ultra Beasts that debuted in Pokemon GO during the global GO Fest and the creatures from the other events in Seattle, Berlin, and Sapporo, will become available to players around the world who take part in the Finale.

The four Ultra Beasts included here are Nihilego, Pherosma, Buzzswole, and Xurkitree. This will be the first time that all of these Pokemon (besides Nihilego) will be available globally instead of just locally for trainers at the in-person GO Fest events.

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet Introduces Terastal Phenomenon, Riding Legendaries, and Much More

1 year 8 months ago

A massive trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was featured at the end of today’s Pokemon Presents showcase. In this video, we learned a ton of new information about the upcoming games.

The region we’ll be traveling in is known as the Paldea region, which has abundant nature and rich culture. The game is entirely open world, and we’ll be able to ride on legendary Pokemon Koraidon (in Scarlet) or Miraidon (in Violet) across the region like a motorcycle, boat, or plane.

Since the game is open world, this means we’ll be able to challenge the eight gyms in no set order, charting our very own path across Victory Road. The gym challenge is just one of two assignments we’ll receive at the academy during our journey.

The trailer showed off some new characters we’ll meet along the way, such as Clavell, the director of the academy, and Jacq, our homeroom biology teacher. We’ll also have friends on our adventure, such as Nemona, the battle-loving friend, Arven, the upperclassman cook, and Penny, the shy student.

Some new Pokemon were introduced, such as Paldean Wooper, a ground/poison-type regional; Fidough, the dessert dog; and Cititan, an ice-type Pokemon.

Yet Another Valorant Mobile Clone Launched in Beta Last Week, & It Has Big Potential

1 year 8 months ago

Riot Games sure is taking its time with Valorant Mobile, the spin-off title which was officially announced over a year ago but of which precious little has been said ever since. In that time, Hyperfront has run a successful beta and nears a full global launch, and now there’s another Valorant clone called Project Rush B that’s just started its own testing period.

It’s made by Press Fire Games, the talented developers behind Battle Prime, which is one of the App Store’s highest-rated shooters not associated with a mainstream franchise like PUBG or CoD. And the two share a lineage that is likely to be obvious to anybody who has played Battle Prime, with similar graphics, UI, and even voice acting.

So far, the beta is only available in Canada and Brazil, but it’s likely to be rolled out to other regions over the coming months. Early impressions are fairly positive, even if there are some pretty glaring bugs and glitches that are to be expected at such an early stage of testing.

One interesting point of difference between Project Rush B and Hyperfront is the lack of aim-assist and stricter accuracy penalties for shooting while moving. It appears to be designed as a much more hardcore experience, and one designed to feel closer to the PC gameplay loop it’s adapting for mobile.

Spyro Reignited Trilogy: Where to Learn to Climb in Spyro 2

1 year 8 months ago

Where to Learn to Climb in Spyro 2 (Spyro Reignited Trilogy)

The Spyro Reignited Trilogy is a gorgeous re-imagination of the original series, complete with stunning new graphics and some tweaks to its gameplay. If you’re either a first-time Spyro player or don’t remember from way back when, here’s where to learn to climb in Spyro 2.

Like most new abilities in Spyro 2, climbing is obtained by speaking with Moneybags and paying him a certain amount of Gems. But you won’t be able to purchase the skill at any old time; you’ll need to visit Moneybags at the Autumn Plains.

However, before you can think about finding him, you’ll need to have completed Crush’s Dungeon first. In order to get to Crush’s Dungeon, Spyro has to collect the first six Talismans of Avalar: Magic Pick, Jade Idol, Gold Statue, Gear of Power, Turtle Medallion, and The Enchanted Shell.

The location of Crush’s Dungeon is hidden behind the door Elora is standing beside in the Summer Forest World.

Once you have beaten the dungeon, head back to Autumn Plains and you’ll find Moneybags standing beside a ladder (just beside the jump location to Summer Forest). Now you can finally speak with him about learning how to climb in Spyro 2.

Do note, as usual, old Moneybags lives up to his name and will ask you for the sum of 500 gems to unlock the ability to teach you how to climb.

How to Climb in Spyro 2

Climbing in Spyro 2 can only be performed on walls that have a ladder mark imprinted on them. Once you have learned the climbing ability, to actually climb you simply need to approach a marked wall and then jump onto it. Spyro will then naturally dig their claws in and you’ll be able to traverse up or down the ladder. You can actually jump between ladders, too.

Square Enix on bringing characters to life and ditching episodes for Life Is Strange: True Colors

While it wasn’t their first Life Is Strange - the Colorado studio released the spin-off game Before The Storm in 2017 - it was the first time they were tasked with creating their own world and characters, instead of inheriting Dontnod’s creations.

Fortunately Deck Nine successfully managed the tightrope walk of honouring the series’ existing DNA, while still taking the Life Is Strange world in new directions. To find out more about how it was done, I sat down with Philip Lawrence and Sarah Van Rompeay, respectively the Senior Narrative Designer and Senior Producer at Square Enix External Studios.
