2 years 11 months ago

Marvel is expanding the franchise to a tabletop role-playing game called Marvel Multiverse, which is set to launch in 2022 in the form of a playtest rulebook designed to allow players to test the all-new D616 game system as they take on the roles of Marvel’s most famous Super Heroes and villains.

Packed with illustrations from Marvel’s amazing comic book artists, the rulebook will include full profiles for fans to become their favorite Avengers, mutants, and other heroes, including:

  • Spider-Man
  • Black Panther
  • Captain America
  • Thor
  • Captain Marvel
  • Ms. Marvel
  • Wolverine
  • Storm

The rulebook is written and co-designed by award-winning and New York Times best-selling author Matt Forbeck (The Marvel Encyclopedia, Dungeons & Dragons: Endless Quest). As mentioned previously, it uses the D616 System, an accessible and easy-to-learn system for newcomers to tabletop RPGs and a natural evolution for those familiar with the most popular tabletop role-playing games on the market.

“As a lifelong Marvel fan and gamer, this project is a dream come true,” said Forbeck in today’s press release. “Fortunately, after writing a couple editions of The Marvel Encyclopedia and designing tabletop games professionally for over 30 years, I feel ready to help make this the best Marvel TTRPG experience ever. I can’t wait for everyone to have the chance to play it!”

Below is an early look at an image that will presumably feature in the rulebook:

The Waylanders Delayed to Fall 2021 as New Early Access Update Launches

2 years 11 months ago

Developer Gato Salvaje has today announced that its Celtic action-RPG The Waylanders, which has been in Early Access for over a year, has been delayed until later this year. No specific release date has been disclosed, but a Fall release window is being targeted.

Gato Salvaje co-founder Fernando Prieto explained the delay in a statement included in a press release sent to Twinfintie:

“We got a little quiet during development over the Spring and I’d like to apologize to the community for that. We’ve been hard at work improving The Waylanders content that players have access to using community feedback and building the next portion of the story. You’ll be hearing more from us on social media and in our Discord in the coming months.”

“Development during Covid has been very challenging, an issue many indie developers have been experiencing over the past year. We’ve had to revamp many of our processes and change up how we work with people outside of the studio, such as our voice actors. We’ve solved many of these challenges and we feel confident that RPG fans will see the full version of The Waylanders released this Fall.”

In other more positive news, Early Access players will benefit from a brand new update this month that brings full controller support, difficulty options, improvements to combat and UI, as well as a selection of new NPC combat barks and lighting improvements throughout many scenarios and cutscenes.

Additionally, Gato has pledged to an update content roadmap that it plans to deliver over the coming months ahead of the game’s full launch. Here’s a snapshot:

2 years 11 months ago

Today Microsoft and Mojang released a new video about the Caves & Cliffs update for the massively popular sandbox game Minecraft.

In the video, the game’s developers explain what we can expect from the split into a Part 1 (which will come on June 8 for all platforms) and part 2, which will be released in the Holiday season.

We also hear that there are already plans in places about what will come beyond Caves & Cliffs, and those will be shared at Minecraft Live 2021.

If you’re unfamiliar with the update, you can check out an official description of what you can expect from Part 1 below.

“The update will be available for Minecraft: Bedrock Edition on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, iOS, Android, and Windows 10 – as well as Java Edition on Windows, macOS, and Linux. Clearly, nobody is safe from those dreaded creatures. The good news is that the update also includes the lovely and totally-harmless-unless-you’re-a-drowned axolotls! Unfortunately, they’re confined to either water or a bucket, so they won’t be able to join my anti-goat crusade.

Earlier this week, Lionsgate offered a few character teasers for the upcoming Borderlands movie. Each cast member was shrouded in darkness, and it looks like that trend is continuing with the latest reveal. We've got a full Borderlands movie cast photo with small details of color, but it looks like this ramp-up could be teasing a full reveal during E3 2021. Possibly a trailer during Gearbox's showcase? We don't know, but it's looking more and more likely with each tease.

The below photo sees the silhouettes of Krieg, Lilith, Tannis, Tiny Tina, Claptrap, and Roland once more. This time, however, they're together with small hints of color:

Lionsgate also shot us over a revamped synopsis for the new film, saying:

Deep Silver have helpfully popped up to name four things that you don't need to get your hopes up for during any of the upcoming summer showcases. Saint's Row, TimeSplitters, Metro, and Dead Island are going to be keeping their collective heads down, they say.

No More Heroes 1 and 2 heading to PC next week

2 years 11 months ago

Marvelous and Grasshopper Manufacture's cult-hack-and-slash adventures No More Heroes and No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle are heading to Steam next Wednesday, 9th June.

First released on Wii in 2007, No More Heroes follows the stylish, frequently ludicrous, and dependably ultra-violent adventures of Travis Touchdown, an ordinary game and anime geek who inadvertently becomes embroiled with the United Assassins Association.

What follows is a third-person hack-and-slash romp, replete with a phenomenal soundtrack, that sees Travis - lightsaber-like beam Katana in hand - murdering his way through the Association's top-ranked assassins in order to stay alive. If you've never played the game before, expect geysers of blood, a winningly weird sense of humour, and (rather barren) bike-based open-world interludes in amongst the spirited and largely entertaining action.

Scarlet Nexus Explainer Video Shows Players The Ropes Before Launch

2 years 11 months ago

Scarlet Nexus finally arrives later this month. To get players primed and ready, Bandai Namco released a new explainer video that serves as an in-game synopsis of the game’s dual protagonists, the monstrous creatures known as the Other, the super-powered OSF, and more.

The eight-minute trailer dives into the history and abilities of Psionics, humans born with special powers. The world is being invaded by plant-like aliens called the Other, and the only ones that can stop them are the OSF, an elite military unit consisting entirely of Psionic individuals. Two of its members are Scarlet Nexus’ leads: Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall. Both OSF soldiers share the spotlight but you can only play as one of them at a time. That means you’ll need to play Scarlet Nexus twice to get the full story. Check out the video below for a breakdown of each character’s combat styles in what’s likely the final big primer before the game releases.

Get 60% off the first month of Ubisoft's game subscription service

2 years 11 months ago

You might not know that Ubisoft, like EA and Microsoft, has its own game subscription service called Ubisoft+. The idea here is that you get full access to the ultimate editions of Ubi games as soon as they're released, as well as the 100+ games in the publisher's back catalogue - including Assassin's Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six and many more franchises and one-off games.

Normally this costs $15/£13 per month, but until June 22nd your first month of the service has been reduced by 60%. This makes it one of the cheapest ways to "rent" new Ubisoft games like Assassins Creed Valhalla and Immortals Fenyx Rising, letting you try these games for a month for just $6/£5.20.
