Lost Epic Gets Epic Trailer to Celebrate Early Access Release

2 years 11 months ago

The 2D Hack & Slash Action Game Lost Epic has started its Early Access phase on Steam, and its creators at Team Earth Wars have released a trailer to celebrate.

If the name of the developer doesn’t ring a bell, perhaps their previous game will, as they created Earth’s Dawn in 2015.

The new game looks especially good even thanks to the contribution of artist Namie, whose work you may have seen on games like Fate/Grand Order, Arknights, and Azur Lane.

You can check out Lost Epic on Steam and watch the trailer below, alongside a few screenshots and an official description.

Mass Effect Legendary Edition Guide: Suicide Mission Mass Effect 2

2 years 11 months ago

The Suicide Mission, as you've probably guessed from the name, is an important story step in Mass Effect 2. Commander Shepard spends all of their time throughout the game to prep for this mission, including the upgrades we talked about in our general mistakes to avoid piece from earlier last month. That's only the first part. The second part requires some critical thinking because you'll need to allocate roles to your squadmates before rushing the Collector Base. Failure to pick the right person will result in key characters dying. Mass Effect doesn't play around with consequences. Luckily for you, I've played this game well over 30 times, so I've got your back.

Demon Slayer for PS5, Xbox Series X, & More Reveals the Characters of Kimetsu Academy With New Trailer & Screenshots

2 years 11 months ago

Today Aniplex released a new trailer of Kimetsu no Yaiba: Hinokami Keppu Tan or Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles, as it’s known in English.

The trailer introduces a rather peculiar band of characters, and precisely the version of Tanjiro Kamado, Nezuko Kamado, and Giyu Tomioka from the Demon Slayer Academy (Kimetsu Gakuen) spin off.

The Kamado siblings are students, while Giyu Tomioka is a super-stern physical education teacher.

Unfortunately, the original trailer is region-locked to Japan, but you can check out a reuploaded version below alongside a few screenshots and art from the press release.

Far Cry 6 Will Transition to Third-Person Perspectives All Throughout the Game

2 years 11 months ago

The Far Cry series has always been experienced through the first-person perspective, but in recent trailers and gameplay footage of the upcoming Far Cry 6, we got to see protagonist Dani Rojas through a third-person perspective as well. In an interview with Gamespot, Ubisoft confirmed that they’ll be using this perspective all throughout the game to give players a chance to appreciate Dani better as a character, and also enjoy any cosmetic changes they may have applied.

Ubisoft stated that the camera will shift to third-person mode during certain points in combat, and when Dani enters guerrilla camps to talk and interact with other NPCs.

“In cinematics, [third-person] is something the team tried early on, and it felt surprisingly seamless. It instantly felt like there was more of a connection to Dani’s journey in the world, more of a connection to this epic story in Yara.
Players will also be able to see their character customizations in these highly-realized story beats. In Guerrilla Camps, this is also an opportunity for players to be able to see their fully customized character, everything from their backpack to their clothes.”

The idea here is to make it so that Dani feels like an actual part of the camp and a member of the community.

Far Cry 6 is set to be released for PC and consoles on Oct. 7.

The Medium Gets Rated for PS5 on ESRB Website

2 years 11 months ago

Developed by Bloober Team, The Medium is an Xbox exclusive psychological horror game that got released earlier this year. However, it’s looking a lot like the game will be making its way to PS5 at some point as well.

As spotted by Gematsu, The Medium has gotten a listing on the ESRB website for the PS5, which is a pretty strong indicator that the game will be coming to Sony’s console in the near future. Of course, it’s always possible that the listing could be a mistake –that’s certainly happened before– but it’s not a stretch to imagine that it’ll be coming to PS5, and could likely be announced during Summer Game Fest or E3 later this month.

We’ll keep you updated as more info comes our way. The Medium is now available on Xbox and PC.

Have You Played... The Bunker

2 years 11 months ago

FMV is a curious beast. Whenever you see someone doing a game with FMV bits in it you assume it's kind of a retro oddity and they're almost doing it as a joke. Like, when they were a kid they really liked that weird 70s animated version of The Lord Of The Rings that had some FMV, and it stuck with them, or something like that. But FMV games are much like vegetables in smoothies, or venereal disease in Floridian pensioners: there's a lot more about than you might expect.

"I want things a bit more cosy" - the humble origins of Hokko Life

2 years 11 months ago

Packing up your bags and travelling across oceans to a new town, to embark on a new adventure with friends old and new; it's sorely tempting to draw parallels between the story of solo developer Robert Tatnell and the game series his project most frequently draws comparisons to. Listening to the Stockholm-based British designer tell his tale, it's almost as if he's elected to live a real-life Animal Crossing these past few years.

"Around 12 years ago I worked at Lionhead in Guildford. Around that time, there was almost like a mini Swedish invasion. Then they all found the other Swedes who were living in Guilford, it was summertime and everyone's partying. I made some of the best friends that I have in my life.

"The projects that we were on got finished up, and over time everyone moved back to Stockholm. I came and visited pretty much any chance that I had. And then over time, I realised that I'd actually much rather be here - that sounds harsh, and I have some very, very happy memories from Guildford! I went not exactly for love but for friendship - which I guess is a form of love."

Dorfromantik review: German engineering to calm your mind

2 years 11 months ago

I’ve been yearning to talk about turning lately. This might be because it’s a big part of Dorfromantik, the top-down, early access puzzle game from Berlin based studio Toukana Interactive. Turning tiles, turning the camera, turning my life into that of a full-time city planner. Maybe the cogs in my brain have been turning too much. Dorfromantik has a steady grasp on my life and I’ll tell you a secret – I absolutely love it.

Explore a pretty doodle world as a space jellyfish in Ynglet, out now

2 years 11 months ago

In Ynglet, you play as a spindly, floaty jellyfish, zooming around a gorgeous doodle-filled world searching for your pals. Developed by Nifflas, the creator of Knytt and NightSky, you'll be platforming without platforms, and jumping about like "a space dolphin". It almost seems like playing through someone's sketch book, all filled with pretty drawings and bursts of colour. And if you fancy a go, it's out right now.

Cyberpunk 2077 Leak Shows Off Internal Bug Montage, Footage Of Third-Person Mode

2 years 11 months ago

Cyberpunk 2077 launched to a plethora of bugs and failed to deliver on the promises made pre-release. The launch was such a surprise that Sony even delisted the game shortly after its release from the PlayStation Store. Since then, numerous patches have gone live to correct the state of the game and make it more in line with the expectations put forth by CD Projekt RED, but a lot of those frustrations early on are coming roaring back following a leaked internal video montaging all of the glitches that this game offers. It also shows off running footage of the game's protagonist taking to the streets of Night City in third-person, a perspective that the community was very sad to see left on the cutting room floor.

Far Cry 5 Player Completely Recreates GoldenEye 007 Using Arcade Mode

2 years 11 months ago

Following the confirmation that Far Cry 6 would not offer an Arcade Mode, which means no more map editor, fans of the Ubisoft franchise are diving back into this creative feature with older titles. One Far Cry 5 player got in touch with their nostalgia by faithfully recreating GoldenEye 007 and to say it's impressive would be a massive understatement.

The dedicated recreation of GoldenEye007 comes by way of YouTuber 'Krollywood'. They took their love of the 1997 shooter and made it tangible using Far Cry 5's map editor, completely rebuilding the N64 classic from the ground up. The YouTuber told Kotaku that this was no easy endeavor. This recreation took almost three years to make and over 1,400 to see this project come to fruition. That's impressive in its own right, doubly so for me because I give up after an hour of trying to make a dinky house in Minecraft. So. There's that.

Artist Alleges Resident Evil And Devil May Cry Devs Stole Her Photos, Evidence Revealed

2 years 11 months ago

Not long after a horror movie creator brought forth evidence that Capcom stole his designs for Resident Evil Village (which is also referenced in the lawsuit detailed below), another artist is coming forward saying that the studio stole her properties for the Resident Evil and Devil May Cry franchises.

In a new lawsuit filed last week, artist Judy A. Juracek alleges that Capcom stole many of her copyrighted photos to use in both franchises, including environments and the Resident Evil 4 logo. The lawsuit has been filed citing stolen use of her copyrighted photography that can be seen in her book called Surfaces. In this book, Juracek shared over 1,000 photos of various textures. The purpose of Surfaces, released back in 1996, is to provide "visual research" for architectural designers for educational purposes. While designers can use images for her book, there is a process that requires anyone that uses her property to contact her before doing so. In her lawsuit, she states that Capcom never made contact with her regarding her photographs.

With Guilty Gear Strive, Daisuke Ishiwatari aims to make one of the most complex fighting games around finally accessible

2 years 11 months ago

Guilty Gear Strive is nearly upon us. Developer Arc System Works has held a number of beta tests, each with its own set of issues pounced upon by the anime fighting game series' fans. But the bigger picture is this: with Strive, chief creator Daisuke Ishiwatari aims to do the seemingly impossible - make Guilty Gear accessible.

Guilty Gear's reputation precedes itself. Perhaps it would be better to say Guilty Gear's reputation hangs around its neck like a cowbell. Bong! Here comes another Guilty Gear. Head for the hills! This one's even harder than the last! Long combos, brutal timing, multiple complex mechanics and tricky characters - Guilty Gear has it all and then some. Play online as a newcomer against the series' modest but seriously properly into it fanbase and, well, you can imagine how hard things can get.

With Strive, Arc System Works hopes to finally "open up" Guilty Gear, 23 years after it made its debut on PSone. That's what Daisuke Ishiwatari told me in a recent interview over Zoom. Over the course of 45 minutes, I chatted with Ishiwatari about the development of Strive, what it sets out to achieve, and tried to get some insight into the various design decisions the team made along the way. We discuss everything from tweaks to Guilty Gear's famous Gatling combos, the addition of wall breaks, modes that failed to make launch because of the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, Strive's already controversial 2D lobbies, new characters and the seemingly overpowered poster boy Sol Badguy - who, by the way, Ishiwatari voices himself.

Insurmountable review: a clever roguelike about mountaineering

2 years 11 months ago

Everything I know about mountain climbing came from a corporate team-building day where management hired a banker who’d scaled Everest to tell us how he left most of his group to die in order to reach the summit. This wasn’t a guilty confession. Apparently there comes an altitude where halting becomes so dangerous that it dooms any dawdlers. You carry on going or expire on the spot. As the then editor of a failing games magazine I couldn’t see any reading of the metaphor where I wasn’t the struggler and my website peers weren’t being told to leave me. Hilariously, this was not the bleakest moment of the day (that was some nervous guy from IT bellowing “Show me the money!” to win book tokens or similar bullshit).

What stuck with me is how all or nothing a climb could be, something you commit to until you either get a killer anecdote or end as another speck of colourful polyester in Rainbow Valley. In this sense, Insurmountable’s decision to equate mountaineering with a survival roguelike is astute: one life, one run, all the while coping with the random luck or misfortune dealt by an unpredictable landscape. This is not a polite hobby where you bank your progress for another day, and in this sense the do or die of a roguelike run feels more honest than the hilly simulations of Death Stranding or myriad VR climbing walls currently available. Just as a concept, I want to celebrate the cleverness of it all.

Palworld looks like Pokémon until you see the guns and sweatshop

2 years 11 months ago

When Palworld's trailer starts, it looks a whole lot like a fancy 3D Pokémon. This lasts nine seconds, until you see someone hanging from the talons of their bird Pokémon Pal while spraying bullets with an assault rifle. Soon, you're seeing Pals made to work in fields, then in a sweatshop assembling new rifles. Then someone picks up their sheepy Pal to use as a shield in a gunfight. Then... it is a trailer of endless surprises, a marvel you must watch.
