Play Assassin's Creed Valhalla for only £5 with 60% off a month of Ubisoft Plus

2 years 11 months ago

If you've been hankering to get involved in some Viking-era assassination shenanigans then here's a way to play Ubisoft's gigantic open-world adventure on PC for less than a stein of ale.

New subscribers can now get their first month's membership to Ubisoft Plus for just £5.20. After that, it'll jump up to the usual price of £12.99 per month, so be sure to cancel beforehand if you want to avoid being charged. Assassin's Creed Valhalla is a massive game, but 30 days should be just about enough to see it to the conclusion.

Of course, that's not the only game on the service. In total, there are over 100 Ubisoft titles to choose from, including all recent and major releases. Handily, all expansion and season pass content is included too. If you want to dip into the back catalogue of the Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six or Far Cry series (perhaps ahead of Far Cry 6 and Rainbow Six Quarantine) then that's all possible.

Previously, new players of the free-to-play competitive first-person shooter had access to drops, ranks, skill groups, and a free path to Prime (paid) matchmaking.

Valve said that over time, these benefits had become "an incentive for bad actors to hurt the experience of both new and existing players".

Far Cry 6 Will Offer A Third-Person Mode Throughout The Game

2 years 11 months ago

In our most recent look at Far Cry 6, Ubisoft showed a few instances where it looked like the player could shift from first-person to third-person regarding perspective. Some fans wondered if that was an actual gameplay feature or something specific to just cutscenes. Luckily, Ubisoft has confirmed that a third-person mode won't be limited to just a small portion of the game because the team wants to be able to fully explore the Dani experience without limitations.

In a recent interview with GameSpotnarrative director Navid Khavari told the site that there were a few different reasons that factored into the decision to offer a third-person option. Among the chief reasons was that the team wanted players to be able to experience Dani as fully as possible. "In cinematics, [third-person] is something the team tried early on, and it felt surprisingly seamless," Khavari told the site. "It instantly felt like there was more of a connection to Dani's journey in the world, more of a connection to this epic story in Yara."

Marvel Multiverse Tabletop RPG Announced With Official Rulebook Coming Next Year

2 years 11 months ago

Are you a Marvel fan and tabletop RPG aficionado that would love to experience your favorite comic universe by slinging dice with friends around a table? The Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game could be just for you. The newly-announced board game will allow players to step into the boots of Marvel’s greatest champions, or to create their own heroes, to battle the biggest and baddest villains in comics.

While the game itself won’t be on shelves until 2023, the official rulebook, dubbed the Marvel Multiverse Role-Playing Game: Playtest Rulebook, will be sold first beginning March 2022. The book is written and co-designed by Matt Forbeck, author of The Marvel Encyclopedia and Dungeons & Dragons: Endless Quest, and will introduce players to the game’s D616 System (named after Earth-616, naturally). The press release doesn’t explain what the system is exactly, only describing it as a "natural evolution" to existing tabletop rules that will be “simple and easy-to-learn” for newcomers to the genre.

Riot Says Valorant Lore Is “Just Getting Started” With “A Lot More Mapped Out”

2 years 11 months ago

While Riot Games’ support of Valorant has kept a regular cadence of updates since its launch last year, one aspect of the game which hasn’t received much attention has been the expansion of its lore and backstory. Who are the Agents and what are their origin stories, for example; what motivates The Kingdom to steal radianite, and why are people fighting over it? All valid questions that really haven’t been answered satisfactorily.

We’ve had drips and drabs, certainly, but there’s not been the concerted effort to explain the weird and wonderful world of Valorant to the same extent we’ve seen in other “hero shooters” and MOBA games. The issue has once again become a topic of discussion amongst Valorant’s community following the recent reveal of the Duality cinematic.

Thankfully for those desperate for more lore and backstory content, Riot has reiterated its commitment to expanding the Valorant universe’s story in a Reddit AMA session this week:

Yesterday, creative director David Nottingham and narrative writer Joe Killeen answered community questions about the future of Valorant’s lore, revealing some interesting details and painting a generally bright future for its expansion moving forward.

David Nottingham explained in one answer that the team has plenty planned:

“We have a lot of lore mapped out. Including core conflict, tech, plotlines, and where the arc of the universe is going. Also agent backstories. We will definitely reveal more and more over time. Just getting started :)”

Square Enix E3 2021 Predictions: What to Expect

2 years 11 months ago

It’s 2021 and E3 is finally back. It’s been tough for years for the iconic gaming show between the show leaking out personal information of attendees, combating COVID-19 in 2020, and publishers starting to pull out and do their own thing. Still, in spite of all that, E3 2021 is trucking along and aiming to continue to be a major event for video game news. With most of the big publishers attending, including Square Enix, E3 2021 looks to be in decent shape as we stand today. So there’s no reason not to keep the tradition going here and dive into some predictions for Square Enix’s E3 2021 conference.

There’s a lot of directions Square Enix could go this year. They have a lot of burners going on their stove. Will they just show us everything they are working on such as Final Fantasy XVI, Forspoken, Project Triangle Strategy, and even Final Fantasy VII Remake Part 2? Or will they keep it relatively conservative; just show us some new gameplay footage of Final Fantasy XVI, a new Endwalker trailer, a random mobile game, and then call it a show?

Let’s dive into some possibilities.

505 Games confirms Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night sequel is in "very early planning stages"

2 years 11 months ago

Following its surprise appearance during a fiscal year financial presentation last week, publisher 505 Games has confirmed that Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, the acclaimed 2019 Castlevania spiritual successor from Koji Igarashi and developer ArtPlay, is getting a sequel.

Word of a sequel originally surfaced after keen-eyed internet sorts spotted a bullet point inserted into 505 Games' latest fiscal year financial results, stating a "second version" of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was in development.

Although the term "second version" left a certain ambiguity as to whether this was referring to a sequel or something else, 505 has now offered clarity in a development update on Reddit. "Regarding recent reports," it wrote, "[505 Games and Artplay] are in very early planning stages for a Bloodstained sequel".

This year's Summer Games Done Quick unveils full charity speedrun schedule

2 years 11 months ago

This year's Summer Games Done Quick, which will once again be an online-only event due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, starts in exactly one month's time, on 4th July, and in preparation, organisers have shared the full charity speedrun schedule.

2021 marks the second year running that Summer Games Done Quick is going online-only - traditionally, shows have been ticketed real-world events, with all speedrunning showcases being streamed online - and the precautions established last year will remain in place to "ensure the continued safety of our attendees, runners, volunteers, and staff", according to organisers.

Even without the live-event element, there's still plenty to look forward to, with this year's show offering a full seven days of speedrunning, from Sunday, 4th July, to 11th July.

CD Projekt's stolen source code, console SDKs and internal dev videos reportedly being shared online

2 years 11 months ago

Earlier this year, CD Projekt confirmed it had been hit by a "targeted cyber attack" that saw its internal systems compromised and sensitive information held to ransom. After CD Projekt said it would not comply with the group's demands, the hackers announced that source code for Cyberpunk 2077, Gwent and an unreleased version of The Witcher 3 would be auctioned to the highest bidder, and source code for Gwent was publicly leaked.

At the time, the hackers claimed they had received a satisfying offer for the information, and the auction was then closed with a condition of "no further distribution" agreed with the buyer. But that stolen data now appears to have resurfaced, with source code, assets and software development kits for platforms including the PlayStation 5 seemingly being shared online. Eurogamer has also seen internal development videos showing work-in-progress builds of Cyberpunk 2077.

Senran Kagura X Hyperdimension Neptunia Crossover Gets New Screenshots, Trailer, & Gameplay Details

2 years 11 months ago

Today Compile Heart released a new trailer, new screenshots, and details the Senran Kagura X Hyperdimension Neptunia crossover Senran Nin Nin Ninja Taisen Neptunia: Shojo-Tachi no Kyoen.

The trailer provides a look at the goddesses from Hyperdimension Neptunia in action, while we get the introducition of a few characters. These include the human forms of Neptune, Noir, Blanc, and Vert, on top of another look at the guest character Goh “The Crow” from Aquire’s 2005 ninja game Shinobido: Way of the Ninja and the leaders of the Steam Legion, You=Geima and Tekko. Among those only Goh is marked as playable.

We also take a look at gameplay and we learn about the game’s mechanics.

Ninjutsu skills can be activated by using the power gauge and the screen slows down, letting you select your skill calmly. You can assign different skills to the face buttons. If you chain Ninjutsu skills you can cause a “Ninjutsu Trigger” that will amplify their effects. You can connect up to four skills.

When the EX gauge is full you can activate the Shinobi Extreme skills triggering a flashy cutscene and a lot of damage.

You can activate “Furinkazan Drive” at any time and its effect will have a certain duration and will be associated to the elements (Fire, Water, Earth, and Wind). You can use it only a limited times per dungeon.

Ninjas can use shuriken and kunai to attack at long range and they can be chained into combos. Shuriken specialize in damage, while kunai specialize in causing abnormal status effects.

For each dungeon you can select a leader and a partner for a total of two characters. If you switch between them during a combo, the newcomer will attack right away.

Victoria 3 won't sugar-coat colonialism, but it'll give you the chance to resist it

2 years 11 months ago

There’s an inherent awkwardness in historical strategy games as entertainment, which is just how much of history is made up of stacked atrocities. Abstraction can do a lot to sidestep this, of course: many games feature real historical cultures, but pit them against each other in virtual petri dishes which might as well be fantasy worlds. Time, also, has a strange capacity to dilute grimness - whether rightly or wrongly, the more ancient a game’s setting, the more carefree we tend to be about burning farming settlements to the ground for the sake of expansion.

But if developers want to make games about real history, especially stuff which has happened within a generation or two of living memory, things become a lot more stark. Victoria 3, the next grand strategy project from Paradox, will see players take the reins of nations on the global stage of the 19th century. That means industrialisation, massive social upheaval, and a thousand other fascinations. But it also means rapacious national expansion, colonialism, and slavery - issues on which the public conversation has advanced a lot since Victoria 2 came out in 2010.

Horizon Forbidden West Composer Joris De Man Introduced in New Spotlight Video

2 years 11 months ago

One of Horizon Zero Dawn’s most memorable features was its brilliant soundtrack, and the sequel title promises to deliver yet another inspiring list of tracks to immerse players in Aloy’s next adventure. Today, Guerrilla Games is introducing its composer, Joris De Man, in a new trailer in which he explains some of the creative processes behind its tone and style.

Joris De Man was also the composer of the original game’s OST, so you can expect to hear a continuity of that same style in the sequel. De Man mentions that the music is unique for an element of sadness or danger that was interesting for him to weave in.

Today’s video follows one from yesterday that also introduced several other members of the team behind the game’s music.

Dying Light – Replay

In the early 2010s, you couldn't browse a game shelf without seeing an avalanche of zombie titles. From Plants Vs. Zombies to Call of Duty to The Last of Us and more, the industry was flooded with the undead like never before. While some tired of the trend, there were a few standouts, Dying Light among them.

Developer Techland captivated its players by not just rehashing the mechanics of zombie-slayers such as Left 4 Dead but instead took inspiration from another kind of first-person shooter. Dying Light melds the fun of parkour action from titles such as Mirrors Edge and sets its speedrunning hero in a terrifyingly beautiful open-world. Fans are able to bounce from roof to roof to evade the undead in a high-energy fashion that still sticks with players today.

Dying Light is definitely a fan favorite, and with the sequel confirmed for this year, hype levels have never been higher for Techland's zombie series. In light of that, we at Game Informer want to join in on the fun with this week's episode of Replay. Join Andrew Reiner, Marcus Stewart, Brian Shea, and Alex Stadnik as they bounce their way through Harran and stylishly slash Dying Light's dastardly denizens.
