Claymation RPG Hylics 2 is out now

3 years 10 months ago

Today has brought the launch of Hylics 2, sequel to the 2015 RPG with the best spellcasting animations in the genre. Made with a mix of clay models and stop-motion animation, it is such a looker. Sounds great, too. I dig its whole surreal, psychedelic vibe. The first one was great fun and I am very much looking forward to clocking off today so I can jack into the sequel. Here, watch this trailer.

Amazing Joker and Dragon Quest’s “Hero” amiibo Coming Later This Year

3 years 10 months ago

Earlier this morning, Masahiro Sakurai hosted a 35-minute livestream for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate to reveal a new fighter. It was announced that Min Min from ARMS would be coming on June 29 as a downloadable character, alongside a new stage, new music, and a bunch of Mii Fighter Costumes.

Towards the end of the livestream, Sakurai also announced that a new amiibo for Persona 5’s Joker and Dragon Quest’s Hero will be coming sometime in the fall of 2020.

Sakurai also mentioned that Nintendo still plans to produce new amiibo figures for future DLC fighters however the company doesn’t know how many of them will be produced, which might lead to shortages upon release.

You can check out some images of the Joker and Hero amiibo down below. As we previously mentioned, these currently do not have a set release date but you can expect for them to cost about $15 USD:

Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time officially announced with debut trailer

3 years 10 months ago

Activision has announced (officially this time) Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time - the first brand new Crash game in a decade.

Developer Toys for Bob said Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time is set after the end of the original Naughty Dog-developed Crash trilogy, when Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy and Uka Uka were stranded on a distant planet, and features playable Crash, Coco and Neo Cortex, among others.

You can choose between playing as Crash and Coco at any time (both bandicoots share the same moveset). At some point you can play as Neo Cortex. The mad scientist uses inventions and a ray-gun, which has the ability to transmogrify hazards and enemies into platforms - a static, solid platform or a bouncy platform that gives him access to higher levels.

3 years 10 months ago

Today, during the Day of the Devs livestream by The Game Awards, Activision officially revealed Crash Bandicoot 4: it’s About Time.

Below you can enjoy the trailer that was showcased during the event.

Crash Bandicoot 4 Coming to PS4, Xbox One This Year

3 years 10 months ago
Activision has announced Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, a brand new, canonical sequel to Crash Bandicoot 3: Warped. Spyro Reignited Trilogy developer Toys for Bob is behind the brand new adventure, which is set to be released on October 2, 2020 for PS4 and Xbox One for $59.99. It’s About Time is built from the ground-up as a new experience in the spirit of the original three Crash games developed by Naughty Dog for the original PlayStation. Players can play either as Crash or Coco Bandicoot for the full adventure, with other playable characters thrown into the mix like Neo Cortex. Featuring a brand new art style, marking a departure from what Vicarious Visions created for the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy, It’s About Time will feature new platforming moves, new masks with special abilities, two major control schemes, and plenty more.

SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated Review

3 years 10 months ago
SpongeBob SquarePants: Battle for Bikini Bottom - Rehydrated marks the return of one of the most iconic licensed characters to enter the 3D platforming fray. Sadly, this flashy remake feels more like a skin-deep remaster in practice, doing little to fix the issues that plagued the original adventure. Its graphical update is accompanied by some imaginative improvements, but those few bright spots aren’t enough to bring Battle for Bikini Bottom’s passable but simplistic and collectathon-heavy gameplay up to the standard you’d expect from a platformer released in 2020 – especially with remakes like the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy showing how a revival like this should be done. In our October 2003 review of the original Battle for Bikini Bottom, reviewer Mary Jane Irwin said: “The love for the SpongeBob franchise really shines through in Battle for Bikini Bottom -- and if it weren't there this would be a very dreary title.” As I replay it nearly 17 years later, that feels extremely accurate – and what’s dreariest about Rehydrated’s 10-ish hour campaign is all the missed opportunities to truly modernize this adventure for first-timers and those of us who look back on it fondly alike. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/spongebob-battle-for-bikini-bottom-2003-vs-2020-graphics-comparison"] To its credit, Rehydrated runs cleanly on PlayStation 4 Pro, its remastered soundtrack’s cheery tunes have earwormed their way into my mind, and the actual feel of running, jumping, and bubble-blowing as SpongeBob is precise and responsive.

New domains point to a Suicide Squad game from Rocksteady and WB Montreal's Gotham Knights

3 years 10 months ago

It's been too long, Rocksteady. We're getting antsy over here!

Batman: Arkham Knight feels like a lifetime ago, and Batman: Arkham VR was so short-lived. When E3 2019 came and went with nothing to show, I finally accepted that we were stuck in a long, long wait.

The latest rumors concerning Rocksteady and Arkham Origins developer WB Games Montréal probably aren't the updates you were hoping to see this late into 2020, but they're worth bringing up. Over the weekend, ResetEra connected the dots on newly-registered domains with ties to Warner Bros.

Teases, rumors, and speculation – when will the cycle end? Not anytime soon.

For what it's worth, Eurogamer says these two games are bound for next-gen and "set to be teased" at the live-streamed DC FanDome event scheduled for August 22, 2020. The outlet believes Suicide Squad is "further off from launch," and also heard that a third domain – for "Suicide Squad Kill the Justice League" – "is a good summation of what you can expect Rocksteady's next big project to be about."

Crash Bandicoot 4 Is A Return To The Series' Glory Days

3 years 10 months ago

Click to watch embedded media

The success of 2017's Crash Bandicoot remaster created a whirlwind of excitement that is a little different than we normally see in games. It created excitement for the series, but people didn’t just want a new Crash Bandicoot game; they wanted a new Crash Bandicoot game that played like the old PlayStation 1 games. That’s exactly what developer Toys for Bob is delivering with Crash Bandicoot 4: It’s About Time, a sequel that will hopefully feel like it was made decades ago.

Crash Bandicoot 4's story wastes no time retconing the series' mistakes. Through the magic of time travel, most of the Crash Bandicoot sequels never happened. This followup picks up right after the events of Crash Bandcioot: Warped, the last entry developed by Naughty Dog for PlayStation 1, with Neo Cortex, Dr. N. Tropy, and Uka Uka trapped on a faraway planet. In a clever narrative twist, this trio worked for decades figure out a way to tear apart the fabric of space-time to return to the past.

Microsoft admits defeat and shuts down Mixer

3 years 10 months ago

Less than a year ago, Microsoft was wrapping up Twitch's biggest streamers to exclusive deals as it prepared to wage war against the world's biggest game streaming platform. Now, it's waving the white flag.

Microsoft has announced that it's shutting down Mixer effective today. Microsoft's streaming platform started was acquired as Beam in 2016 and rebranded as Mixer in 2017. The past three years have been mostly tough for Mixer, as it was never able to achieve the popularity it should've considered all the attention and money Microsoft threw its way. For instance, Twitch, YouTube Gaming, and Facebook Gaming all saw substantial upticks in traffic over the past three months because of stay-at-home restrictions; Mixer's traffic stayed nearly flat.

Now, Microsoft intends to transition Mixer's audience over to Facebook Gaming in a partnership that brings two major video game audiences together. Xbox's Project xCloud streaming service is the linchpin of this agreement, as Microsoft is seemingly enamored with Facebook's social media presence and the userbase it harbors for potential xCloud players. Microsoft says it envisions there being only a single click between watching someone stream on Facebook to that user playing the game for themselves.

Persona's Joker, Dragon Quest 11's Hero Announced as Amiibo

3 years 10 months ago
Joker from Persona 5 and the Hero from Dragon Quest 11 will be released as amiibo this Fall. Announced as part of today's DLC announcement for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, creator Masahiro Sakurai explained that the team still plans to make amiibo for every DLC fighter in the game, but that he's not sure how many will be made. Screenshot (92)The Joker figure appears to be a complete design, while the Hero figure is apparently still in development. If the remaining fighters are indeed developed as amiibo, that would mean we'll get figures of Banjo & Kazooie, Terry, Byleth, Min Min, and 5 unannounced fighters. Screenshot (94)The announcement comes alongside the reveal of Challenger Pack 6, which will bring Arms' Min Min, a Spring Man assist trophy, a Spring Stadium stage, and new Mii Fighter costumes (including Vault Boy from Fallout) to Smash Bros. Ultimate on June 29. Hylics 2 is out on Steam and I can't look away

3 years 10 months ago

After countless fever-dream gifs and a few strange trailers, it's finally out. Hylics 2 is a real video game and it's playable today for $13.49 on Steam and itch.io if you're in the mood for an otherworldly RPG.

I once called it "3:00 a.m. in video game form." I stand by that.

There's a lot to dig into. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, Hylics 2 makes great use of freaky clay models and stop-motion animation to create a world all its own, and that's mostly what I'm into.

Combat is turn-based, which is fine. It fits. When you aren't fighting, you'll explore 3D spaces – "air-dashing, rolling, and gliding to find hidden treasures or evade enemies" – and there's even a first-person dungeon-crawler segment. Early user reviews point to less-than-ideal platforming and drawn-out brawls, but if you can handle that sort of mechanical unevenness, it's overflowing with style.

Do you need to play the first game? According to creator Mason Lindroth, the sequel "uses motifs from its predecessor, but players unfamiliar with Hylics may still fully enjoy Hylics 2." That said, it's $3.

I don't want to play this so much as I want to study every frame.

A Total War Saga: Troy Gets New Trailer All About Menelaus

3 years 10 months ago

Today Creative Assembly released a new trailer of the upcoming Total War game A Total War Saga: Troy.

The trailer focuses on Menelaus, king of Sparta, who will join the war for Troy in order to protect the honor of the warlike city.

The trailer is quite cinematic, and we don’t get to see much gameplay, but the character models certainly have become pretty compared to older Total War games.

You can check out the trailer below.

The game was announced a while ago by Creative Assembly, and a few days ago we learned that it’ll be exclusive to the Epic Games Store for a year. This is a one-off, and the developer doesn’t plan to continue with the same initiative on further Total War games going forward. We also saw another video focusing on the famous Trojan Horse and one featuring Achilles.

Min Min From ARMS Coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Alongside New Mii Fighter Costumes

3 years 10 months ago

During a livestreamed presentation for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the series director, Masahiro Sakurai, announced that Min Min from ARMS will be coming to the game.

The 35-minute livestream aired this morning, with Sakurai showing off Min Min’s moveset and even talking about why Min Min was chosen for the game, instead of other high-profile characters such as Twintelle or Ribbon Girl.

According to Sakurai, the producer for ARMS insisted on Min Min being the character to come to Smash Bros. Ultimate when approached by Sakurai.

Min Min is an 18-year-old ramen lover and both of her arms are like springs, which lets her equip herself with a variety of weapons.

Min Min from Arms Announced as DLC Fighter for Smash Bros. Ultimate

3 years 10 months ago
Min Min from Arms will be the latest Smash Bros. Ultimate DLC fighter. She will become available on June 29 for $5.99 (and is included as part of a purchase of Fighters Pass Vol. 2). Announced by series creator Masahiro Sakurai from his own home, the spring-armed fighter will be able to use both of her extendable limbs for a variety of attacks. Unlike most characters, the A and B buttons are mapped to one each of Min Min's arms, rather than for regular and smash attacks. As in Arms itself, Min Min's arm attachments can be swapped, offering a variety of different effects. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/22/super-smash-bros-ultimate-min-min-official-trailer"] Arm attacks can be bent in mid-air to adjust your angle of attack but, as a downside, Min Min is built for longer range combat, with attacks easy to dodge from close range. Min Min's Final Smash move summons every member of the Arms cast to deliver a barrage of punches to any unlucky recipients. Arms' Spring Man will also join the game as an Assist Trophy and uses a similar (if less powerful) move when activated. Spring Stadium is the game's newest stage to fight across, and features bounce platforms on either side, as well as an arched ceiling that can ricochet flying characters back toward the arena. Arms drones will also periodically carry items across the stage, too. New Mii Fighter costumes include Ninjara from Arms, Heichachi from Tekken, Callie and Marie from Splatoon, and Vault Boy from Fallout(!). All of the costumes will also be available on June 29. [ignvideo url="https://www.ign.com/videos/2020/06/22/super-smash-bros-ultimate-mii-fighter-costumes-6-trailer"] Sakurai also announced that Persona 5's Joker and Dragon Quest 11's Hero will be released as amiibo this Fall.

That Dragon Age next-gen tease was only seconds long, but I'm still excited

3 years 10 months ago

I wasn’t scheduled to work during the EA Play Live stream, but I did anyway, because that meant I was in with a hot chance of seeing something Dragon Age related. Let me introduce myself: hello, I am a fool.

I do this whenever EA do any sort of live anything, and was rewarded with a still image with some moody voice over at E3 two years ago. My hope was that because the only real word since then had been worrisome stories about development hell, they’d show… something. As it happens they did show something! It was almost nothing, but I’ll take it! I honestly believe that almost all Dragon Age fans would rather a near infinite time was spent on development than any employees have suffer, including myself, and honestly what we saw last night proves that, because clearly they could release a trailer one frame at a time over literal years and we would still all freak out and spend ages sharing fan theories on Tumblr.

This is the galaxy brain way to use C4 in PUBG

3 years 10 months ago

PUBG got C4 added as a throwable explosive last week, and I called it "a frag grenade with a very long fuse." That's accurate, and that's the way most players are using it. C4 has a 25-meter blast radius and causes damage through walls, but it also takes 16 seconds to detonate. The obvious strategy is to throw it, flush opponents out of cover, and spray at them while they scramble.

The World's Smartest Strategy, however, is to turn it into a missile. That's what streamer (and incredible PUBG player) chocoTaco did. He strapped the C4 to the armored BRDM and ghostrode the whip straight into the building of someone who thought they had prime shelter with good circle position. Wrong because someone just drove a nuke at you.

Let's go over what this guy could've done. ChocoTaco came around the corner too fast and the BRDM has too much armor for him to have blown up the vehicle. And, the explosion is too big and too perfectly timed to run away. Short of predicting the future, this guy had no choice but to suck an explosion straight to the face.

This is the galaxy brain way to use C4 in PUBG screenshot
