The original Warcraft and Diablo are now available from Battle.net

4 months 3 weeks ago

Blizzard tend to do a good job maintaining even their oldest games, releasing patches sometimes decades after their original release. I therefore assumed that 1994's Warcraft: Orcs And Humans and 1997's Diablo were available via the studio's store and launcher, Battle.net.

Not so, it turns out, because Blizzard have just announced they've added them today, and with working multiplayer for both.

4 months 3 weeks ago

The Asus Prime AP201 Micro ATX case is down to $65 on Amazon US, a great price for a SFF case that's attracted warm reviews since launching in 2022.

The AP201 offers excellent compatibility with a wide range of cooling hardware and graphics cards, plus excellent thermals and easy buildability. It even has a classy, understated look that's the polar opposite of Asus' ROG designs. That's pretty much the full set when it comes to small form factor PC cases, so consider jumping on this one while you can!

Mass Effect is coming to Destiny 2 next month in new collaboration event

4 months 3 weeks ago

If your interests exist squarely within the Venn diagram of Mass Effect and Destiny 2, your day is almost here: Bungie has announced it's teaming up with EA and BioWare to bring Commander Shepard and company - or at least something vaguely inspired by them - to its free-to-play shooter as part of a new collaboration event.

As per Bungie's announcement, the 'Destiny 2 x BioWare' team-up will enable Destiny 2 players to "join the crew of the Normandy" from 13th February - which all sounds very exciting until it finishes its sentence, "with new cosmetics and in-game items".

On the premium cosmetics front, a new Normandy Crew Bundle will be available in the Eververse store once the event begins, containing a Commander Shepard-inspired N7 armour set for Titans, a Garrus-inspired Vakarian set for Hunters, and a Liara-inspired Shadow Broker set for Warlocks. An Omni Strike finisher and Flux Dance will also be purchasable with Silver.

PSA: You Can Move Items Without Being Encumbered in Palworld

4 months 3 weeks ago

Every Palworld player knows the struggle of the moving process, where they’ll often be anchored down by their inventory. I mean, I get that it’s supposed to be realistic, but standard items like wood and stone shouldn’t be the bane of my existence when it comes to storage.

Fortunately, Twitter/X user makeUmove discovered a way to move items without being in that dreaded encumbered state. In their post, they could take an object and walk over to another storage location, all while not being weighed down.

Palworld Digimon Mods Already Starting to Appear

A handful of Palworld Digimon mods appeared on Nexus Mods courtesy of SV BOY and FrancisLouis. SV BOY created ones of Gabumon, Omegamon, and Tyrannomon over the past week, while FrancisLouis created a Garurumon one.

All of these Digimon Palworld mods are Pal replacement ones. This means an existing character in your PC version of the game will be replaced with the new model. Here’s the full list of what each one changes:

The installation method for all of them is the same. You need to go into the directors in Steam to find Palworld, then place the new .pak files in the Palworld\Pal\Content\Paks folder. FrancisLouis also mentions making a “mods” folder in the “Paks” one. The Nexus Mods file download page for each also has the manual and mod manager download options.

The Long Dark developer teases 'unannounced survival game' that might just be The Long Dark 2

4 months 3 weeks ago

Hinterland, the developer behind snowy survival game The Long Dark, has teased an 'unannounced survival game' currently in development at the studio, and the accompanying alpha footage certainly has the hallmarks of a potential The Long Dark 2.

Hinterland boss Raphael van Lierop (who confirmed he was stepping away from The Long Dark to start a new project at the studio back in 2022) shared the 22 seconds of "in-engine pre-alpha" footage on social media today, along with the caption, "Some good things happening in the Unannounced Survival Games space...".

The video itself is little more than a slow pan across a slightly ramshackle room - but a closer look might just offer some big clues as to the nature of Hinterland's new project. A running tally of "days" scrawled on the mirror and the general makeshift dilapidation of the room certainly suggest some kind of disaster has befallen the world outside, while the two roaring fires and the howling wind absolutely bring The Long Dark's big freeze to mind.

2.0 Honkai: Star Rail Trailblaze Mission "Long Day's Journey Into Night" Detailed

HoYoVerse shared the requirements to start the 2.0 Honkai: Star Rail Trailblaze Mission “Long Day’s Journey into Night.” It also listed the seven kinds of rewards people will earn for finishing it.

The requirements aren’t too restrictive for the first 2.0 Honkai: Star Rail Trailblaze Mission. You basically need to just be completely caught up with the campaign. That means you had to finish all of the Xianzhou Luofu Trailblaze Missions before you can “head” to the new world. If you already cleared the Karmic Clouds Faded, War Banners Folded “Obsequies Performed, A Long Road Ahead” mission, then you are good to go. You can immediately pick up “Long Day’s Journey into Night” and head to Penacony

As for the rewards, they’re the typical ones we tend to get for Trailblaze Missions in the game. You’ll get some of the both types of currency, so Credits and Stellar Jades will be doled out. You’ll earn experience for your level too. There will be music acquired for the Astral Express jukebox. Finally, Lost Crystal, Refined Aether and Traveler’s Guide experience materials for Relics, Light Cones, and characters will be doled out. No increments were noted in the announcement.

Weapons and playable characters alike undergo acute surges and declines based on several factors, with the most prevalent being player behavior. Years ago, Pathfinder reigned supreme across casual and competitive matches; his grapple hook-centric mobility and inconsistent hitbox made him an unrivaled duelist until his ability cooldowns and physique were tweaked. Similarly, the Prowler SMG once rivaled its light ammo counterparts before the Selectfire Receiver – a legendary hop-up that converted the weapon's burstfire to automatic – was removed from the loot pool. These changes, in addition to many others, morphed the meta in significant ways, but one particular update trumped the rest: Revenant's rework.

The nefarious simulacrum (robots based on humans) was first introduced in Season 4: Assimilation, and despite capturing the fascination of lore enthusiasts and aggression-focused players, his unremarkable pick rate left a lot to be desired.

Fans of the Mass Effect series have been clamoring for new content for years, and today, they finally got some good news – assuming they're fans of Destiny 2, that is. In a post on X, Bungie announced that Mass Effect cosmetics would be coming to their online shooter on February 13, just two weeks from now.

As mentioned in the X post above, the Alliance Requisition Bundle includes armor sets based on Garrus, Liara, and the protagonist, Commander Shepard. In addition to the bundle, which players will presumably have to purchase, three items will be available for free – the Enhanced Defense Ghost Shell, Alliance Scout Frigate Ship, and Alliance Drop Ship Sparrow.

I'm stoked for this immersive sim about escaping a town in the shadow of a colossal policeman

4 months 3 weeks ago

I was instantly taken with the idea of Militsioner when I first saw it in 2021. The upcoming "Kafkaesque" immersive sim gives you the simple goal of escaping a town within a few days, a task which is somewhat complicated by the fact that a Leviathan-sized Russian cop towers over the city, watching you. In a new dev blog, developers TallBoys explain more of how you might court the giant's approval (the term "fully fleshed dating-sim mechanic" features) or avoid it by sneaking about while he sleeps. You might even—gasp!—do crimes. This also drew my attention to a ten-minute gameplay video they released last month and oh, yes, please.

Cover Reveal – Apex Legends

4 months 3 weeks ago

Apex Legends is a game that has been growing and changing in continually exciting ways since its surprise launch in 2019. Featuring a fully released game on our cover is atypical for Game Informer, but Apex Legends continues to enamor players daily, which is why we jumped at the opportunity to visit Respawn's studio in Vancouver, Canada to dive deep into the game's history, and look ahead to what's coming next for the game on the horizon. As it readies to celebrate its five-year anniversary, Apex Legends is prepared to initiate some of its biggest changes yet, and we got a chance to speak with the team and play with its new modes and more.

To pull off this cover story, we decided to send in an expert: Jason Guisao. Jason is a former intern-turned-editor here at Game Informer, who also spent time at Bungie as a franchise editor, and is a devoted Apex Legends fan who has even played the game competitively at a Top 500 level. Jason, alongside video producer Alex Van Aken (a competitive Apex player and fan in his own right), visited Respawn in Vancouver to chat with the team, discuss its history, and go hands-on with what is changing for the game.

The English Fate/Stay Night Remaster Is a Dream Come True

4 months 3 weeks ago

The English Fate/Stay Night Remaster Is a Dream Come True

As good as the Fate/ series is, those of us outside of Japan always ended up a bit left out. We’d get all these spin-offs and other adaptations, but the original story eluded us. Like imagine you started with City Slickers 2 instead of the original City Slickers. (Okay, that’s not such a bad idea, since The Legend of Curly’s Gold is the superior film.) But now Type-Moon and Aniplex announced Fate/Stay Night Remastered, obviously a remaster of the original game, with an English language option. And frankly? We deserve this.

As a refresher for those wondering why we didn’t see Fate/Stay Night in English before now, well, it had adult content! Because it was a “mature” game, it didn’t show up 20 years ago when it debuted on PCs in Japan in 2004. Because the anime and manga removed that content, companies like Crunchyroll, Sentai Filmworks, and Tokyopop picked them up.

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster PC Games Patch Adds Classic Font Update

Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster PC Games Patch Adds Font Type Update

Square Enix announced the Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster PC games now each got a patch that includes Font Type and BGM (background music) update. Both options originated in the PS4 and Switch versions of the games and are part of the Steam versions’ 1.1.0 update.

While the patch notes for each title may have some additional variations and features, the three “major new features” are present in each one. This means that all six Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster PC games on Steam now have a patch that lets you switch between the “classic” or “modern” style font types, the original or arranged BGM soundtrack, and choose if you use cheats. The cheats are billed as “assistance features” that let you adjust increase (or eliminate) the amount of things like EXP and gil earned from battles. The company didn’t share screenshots or a trailer showing the changes, however.

Visions of Mana Isn’t an Xbox Game Pass Game

4 months 3 weeks ago

While Visions of Mana will be on the Xbox Series X and PC, it will not be among the Xbox Game Pass games at launch. Eurogamer learned from Microsoft will not be a part of the subscription service when it debuts in Summer 2024. [Thanks, Eurogamer!]

The question came up as it briefly appeared on the official Xbox site according to Karim Jovian and Idle Sloth. However, Microsoft then noted this is an error. Visions of Mana won’t be an Xbox Game Pass game for the console and PC at launch. However, the comment from Microsoft did note that it is only not part “at this time.” Due to the nature of the service, this could change.

It isn’t uncommon for Square Enix games like Visions of Mana to show up on the service. For example, all of the Final Fantasy games capable of running on Microsoft platforms were a part of the library at one point. NieR: Automatawas there too. However, as of time of writing there are no notable Square Enix RPGs currently part of Xbox Game Pass.

Palworld Pokémon mod returns with "legally-distinct pocket creatures" after Nintendo takedown

4 months 3 weeks ago

We all knew Nintendo would come after the Palworld Pokémon mod, but its modder has quickly struck back with a new download which replaces Palworld's friendly Pals with totally original "legally distinct" and "legit copyright free" pocket creatures.

Last week, YouTuber ToastedShoes took the Palworld's close Pokémon comparisons to the extreme, with an unlicensed Pokémon mod. Footage of the mod remained on the internet for about a day, before Nintendo got to work scrubbing it away.

The Pokémon Company itself soon responded, stating its intent to "investigate and take appropriate measures" regarding anything that could infringe on its copyright. Meanwhile, modding hub Nexus Mods released its own statement confirming it won't host Pokémon-themed Palworld mods thanks to the "headache of DMCA/legal threats from Nintendo".

Honkai: Star Rail Penacony Video Shows Behind the Scenes

Honkai: Star Rail Penacony Behind the Scenes

HoYoverse shared a new Honkai: Star Rail video, this time giving a look behind the scenes of design of the new Penacony world and the 2.0 update. While the trailer does give genuine insight to the developer's design ethos, there is also a humorous tone as the straight-faced interviewer asks increasingly irrelevent questions.

The video begins with a discussion with writer Shaoji about the origins of Penacony, which was originally a penal colony before it became a dream-powered hotel. Shaoji emphasises the contrast between the luxurious dreamscape and the rough past, and notes that the area was originally going to be based on Victorian England and steampunk aesthetics before they settled on Jazz-age theming. Later on, we see comments from concept artist Nio, game designer Dr. Orange, environment artist Baiyu, and gameplay designer Punk. The developers discuss everything from nausea induced by designing optical illusions to the team's obsession with trash cans.
