Dragon's Dogma 2 Reveals Warfarer Vocation in New Trailer

Capcom showcased the Warfarer vocation in Dragon’s Dogma 2 with a new trailer during the January 2024 State of Play broadcast. The Warfarer is a class exclusive to the Arisen that can use every weapon and learn different skills from each vocation.

The Warfarer is a jack of all trades and will have lower base stats than the rest of the vocations. The lowered stats will require players to use the vocation’s weapon and skill versatility to their advantage to keep up with other specialized vocations.

In addition, the new trailer showed the Dragonsplague, a contagious condition that affects pawns as they travel between worlds. Instead of weakening pawns, Dragonsplage will enhance their performance and make them become bolder in their behavior.

Vocational maisters are one of the new features that will be included in Dragon’s Dogma 2. Players can encounter vocation maisters in the game who have fully mastered their vocation. By deepening their relationship with the maisters, players will unlock their vocations or grant special benefits.

Death Stranding 2 On The Beach gets a trailer and 2025 release window, still absolutely bonkers

4 months 3 weeks ago

Sony and Hideo Kojima have released a new Death Stranding 2 trailer alongside the game's full title - Death Stranding 2 On The Beach. It's out in 2025 on PS5, with a PC release date still to be revealed, and appears to be as free-wheeling and self-serious yet whimsical as you'd expect from a Kojima joint. I got as far as the pet anime dragon before my brain squirmed out through my ear.

Death Stranding 2 officially titled On the Beach, coming 2025

4 months 3 weeks ago

During this evening's State of Play, we were all treated to a brand new and rather surreal look at Death Stranding 2, officially now known as On the Beach (as suspected).

The sequel was first announced to be in development back in 2022 during the Game Awards, with a bamboozling trailer featuring Léa Seydoux and Norman Reedus.

Tonight's trailer has now given us another slice of Kojima-infused pie, and once again it is as perplexing as you would expect. It includes a rather epic looking battle that I won't spoil by trying to describe it here. We also got a brief look at Elle Fanning's Death Stranding 2 character. The actress was first confirmed to be part of the sequel a while ago, after a series of enigmatic teases from Kojima (although, we all guessed).

Rise of the Ronin at Sony State of Play

4 months 3 weeks ago

Rise of Ronin Trailer State of Play

Rise of the Ronin appeared at the 2024 Sony State of Play, with a new gameplay trailer showing off new weapon types and gameplay. The game was previously confirmed as releasing on March 22, 2024.

Rise of the Ronin is set during the Bakumatsu period of Japanese history when American gunboats forced a crisis that would result in the fall of the Shogunate and the return of political power to the Imperial family.

We also saw characters wearing the blue and white colors of the Shinsengumi, a political group active at the time. The trailer featured grappling hook and glider gameplay and stance-based combat with swords, spears, and guns. Later, a flamethrower, a saber, and a rifle with a bayonet were also shown.

V Rising Awakens On PlayStation 5 This Year

4 months 3 weeks ago

V Rising PlayStation

V Rising, the popular survival action RPG, is branching away from PC and making its way to PS5 sometime this year. The news was announced during today’s State of Play.

The game, which first entered Steam Early Access in May 2022, puts players in the immortal shoes of a weak vampire who awakens after slumbering for centuries. Players must regain their strength and rebuild their castle, which, among other things, involves enslaving humans to do their bidding. Whatever your method of rebuilding your might and fending off foes, you’ll have to plan around a day/night cycle since sunlight is a big no-no for your well being. V Rising can be played alone or alongside friends in multiplayer.

Interestingly, since Sony doesn't have an Early Access style program, one has to wonder if V Rising’s arrival will coincide with an impending 1.0 launch on PC. V Rising was a big hit when it first arrived on Steam and has garnered positive reviews, so here's hoping the experience translates well on console.

Dave the Diver Harpoons a Godzilla Collaboration & PlayStation Debut

4 months 3 weeks ago

Dave the Diver is the gift that keeps on giving, thanks to its quality-of-life updates and unique collaborations. But even with all of the game’s wacky features, I never expected it to see a crossover with the legendary reptilian monster Godzilla.

In the snippet shown during the PlayStation State of Play showcase, we see Godzilla emerging from the ocean next to the beloved Bancho’s restaurant. If you look closely, you’ll also notice another monster that looks similar to the Mantis Shrimp boss. That means we could see a similar face-off like Godzilla versus King Kong, which would certainly be a sight to behold.

Silent Hill: The Short Message stars a girl named Anita entering a crumbling apartment building, following messages from her friend Maya. She is searching for something, although what she's looking for is unclear.

Kojima Productions Is Working On A New 'Action Espionage' Game With Sony

4 months 3 weeks ago

Hot on the heels of the latest Death Stranding 2 trailer during Sony's most recent State of Play livestream, Hideo Kojima, the head of Kojima Productions, announced that alongside Sony, his company is making a brand new IP. Not only that, but it is, as Kojima put it, an "action espionage" game.

If that genre sounds vaguely familiar in relation to Kojima, that might be because the tagline of his global breakthrough, Metal Gear Solid, released in 1998, used the tagline "Tactical Espionage Action." In normal people's terms, that means a stealth game.

Kojima's return to the stealth genre, one he pioneered decades ago with the Metal Gear series, is still quite a ways off. As he tells it, development will begin in earnest after Death Stranding 2 is released sometime in 2025.

He then went on to say a bunch of stuff that didn't make a ton of sense, though maybe one day it will in retrospect. This new game will also apparently be a movie "in terms of look, story, theme, cast, acting, fashion, and sound," Kojima said, before adding that with this new game, Kojima Productions hopes to "transcend the barriers between film and video games."

FFVII Rebirth Getting Its Own State of Play Showcase in February

FFVII Rebirth Getting Its Own State of Play Showcase in February

At the end of the January 2024 State of Play, Sony announced a February 6, 2024 FFVII Rebirth State of Play showcase. That presentation will focus entirely on the RPG ahead of its debut later in the month.

Very few details came up regarding what this additional presentation could discuss. Additional gameplay footage will appear. There will also supposedly be detail and “exciting news.” This could be a reference to some sort of demo that will be released ahead of the game’s debut. As a reminder, Square Enix did release a Final Fantasy VII Remake demo back in March 2020 for the PS4. That showed up just ahead of its release.

The last bit of footage shared about the game was a brief clip on FFVII Day. It showed footage of Cloud playing the piano in FFVII Rebirth’s new free-play minigame and element. In it, it showed how someone could use the feature to play original songs, as the video has him playing “Happy Birthday.”

Kojima making new Metal Gear Solid-style game, and movie, for PlayStation

PlayStation has announced Physint, a major new project with Metal Gear Solid creator Hideo Kojima, to "reinvent" the genre he is most famous for.

This new "next-generation action espionage game" will be a fresh, original IP - as Metal Gear Solid remains owned by Konami - and will also be a movie as well.

"Preparations are udnerway, but production will begin in earnest at Kojima Productions after Death Stranding 2," Kojima said tonight during Sony's PlayStation State of Play - during which we also learned Death Stranding 2 is set to arrive in 2025.

Until Dawn PlayStation 5 and PC remaster official, out this year

4 months 3 weeks ago

UPDATE 1/2/24: As part of its post-PlayStation State of Play extended coverage, Sony has shared more on developer Ballistic Moon's Unreal Engine 5 take on Until Dawn, and it seems we're looking at a full-on remake - significantly overhauling some of the original's fundamental mechanics - rather than a simpler remaster spruce-up.

As detailed on the PlayStation Blog, this new version of Until Dawn ditches the fixed camera angles of the original in favour of a new third-person perspective - a perhaps surprisingly change given the whole point of the original was to replicate the classic slasher movie experience, complete with the genre's familiar cinematic language, albeit with an interactive twist - and it doesn't sound like Ballistic Moon was content with the first game's hokey horror vibes either. This new version is aiming to be "more nuanced and emotional", with a "broader cinematic tonal colour palette" compared to the original's wintery blue hues.

As well as expanding the original narrative with "unexplored emotional parts", Ballistic Moon says it's adding new locations, enhancing old ones, introducing new interactions (including new "contextual character movement animation"), and new collectables. That's in addition to a radical sound overhaul - there's talk of a "completely new soundscape" and Ballistic Moon is jettisoning original composer Jason Graves' score in favour of new music from Mark Korven.

PlayStation and developer Team Ninja have released a new trailer for Rise of the Ronin, and it features plenty of bloody gameplay and new details about the Bakumatsu period in Japan. In combat, various weapons can be used, including Japanese swords and spears. As you develop a connection with the inventor Igashichi, you'll gain more access to devices like the Fire Pipe, which is basically a long-range flamethrower. Dave The Diver Coming to PlayStation, Godzilla Crossover Announced

4 months 3 weeks ago

Today’s PlayStation stream brought some great news for players on Sony consoles. Dave the Diver is headed to Playstation in April, meaning that players who weren’t able to catch the game on Switch or PC will now have a chance to join Dave on his adventures.

As we highlighted in the game’s review, Dave the Diver was one of the welcome surprises of last year, offering a novel and amusing mix of gameplay experiences. Part of the game focuses on scuba diving and fishing, while another section of the game is about managing and growing a sushi restaurant, using the ingredients you gathered from the ocean. The game has a whimsical, lighthearted vibe and consistently entertaining gameplay, which together has garnered a lot of praise.

Alongside the release on PlayStation consoles, we also got a tease of a new crossover coming to Dave the Diver, in which Godzilla shows up in the strange waters of the Blue Hole. If we get to make sushi from a kaiju, it will be an awesome day, indeed. That new expansion to Dave’s adventure is set to arrive in May.

He tells Sam that it looks like he traded in rope for a stick this go 'round, recalling a major element of the original game which discussed how early humanity was faced with two tools in the beginning – one to create connection, and one to create conflict.

Konami Reveals Another New Silent Hill Game, Out Today

4 months 3 weeks ago

Today during Sony's most recent State of Play, Konami unveiled a brand new Silent Hill project. Silent Hill: The Short Message is a new free experience that'll be available later today.

Check out the trailer below to see it for yourself. Though as a quick heads-up, there are brief scenes of self-harm.

The Short Message trailer looks conspicuously like the alleged leaked images for a new Silent Hill game we saw back in February 2022 that Konami DMCA'd. As Polygon detailed at the time, the leaker "Dusk Golem offered some hints at its narrative, naming two characters (Anita and Maya) and hinting that SMS messages would factor into the game somehow." This lines up with much of what's in the trailer.

Despite the previous leak, The Short Message was still a bit of a surprise, as it's yet another new Silent Hill project but wasn't one of the many annoucned back in 2022, which revealed the upcoming Silent Hill 2 remake, the maligned Silent Hill: Ascension, as well as Silent Hill f and Silent Hill: Townfall. It appears the future of Silent Hill is as bright as it is foggy.

New Look At Judas Gameplay Reveals More BioShock Inspiration

4 months 3 weeks ago

Judas gameplay bioshock

Ghost Story Games, the studio led by BioShock creator Ken Levine, revealed its first game, Judas, during The Game Awards 2022 in a cinematic trailer. Now, more than a year since that announcement, Ghost Story Games has revealed a new look at Judas gameplay. And perhaps unsurprisingly, it reminds us of BioShock (and it looks great).

Revealed in a new trailer that aired during today's Sony State of Play, this look at Judas pulled back the curtains on what exactly is going on in this single-player, narrative-driven sci-fi game. Well, kinda. We got another look at the game's interesting world, which shows Judas stuck on a space station with various characters (perhaps enemies?) trying to fix something that she might have broken. As for what that entails, it remains a mystery, but this new trailer sheds a little light on her mission.

Check it out for yourself in the new Judas gameplay trailer below
