New Witcher Season 2 Trailer Teases The Coming War

2 years 5 months ago

Netflix has released a new trailer for the upcoming second season of The Witcher and as you might expect following the end of the first season, it teases the coming war.

That war will see Henry Cavill’s Geralt of Rivia aka The Witcher, Freya Allan’s Ciri, Anya Chalotra’s Yennefer, and more weaving their way through it, too, all while fighting monsters and magic, of course. As the trailer notes, “something has changed” and the world is acting strange – there’s a war, monsters roam freely when they should be hibernating, and for everyone that isn’t Geralt, it seems like the end of days. For Geralt, though, it’s just “horses**t,” as he’s already lived through “three supposed end of days.”

If one thing is clear from the trailer, it’s that there is a war coming, and as Geralt points out in it, it’s because The Continent belongs to nobody (despite basically everybody trying to make it theirs.) Monster by Kanye West featuring Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, and Bon Iver plays over the entire thing, too, and now we want to hear Jaskier's rendition of the song.

Carve pumpkins for a virtual pumpkin festival in this free indie game

2 years 5 months ago

Last Halloween, Alice Bee visited Ghost Town's 999th Annual Pumpkin Festival, carving a pumpkin of her own to place amongst the spooky virtual showcase. It was a lovely little indie game from Adam "Adamgryu" Robinson-Yu, creator of the much-adored A Short Hike. Well, Halloween is upon us again, and Mayor Bones has returned with another gourd-o-rama, putting servers back online and inviting us to contribute new pumpkins. It's still lovely.

Halo Infinite: 343 Industries Used Halo 3 Character And Enemy Designs For Inspiration

2 years 5 months ago

343 Industries has revealed in a new Inside Infinite blog post that it relied on character and enemy designs from the Halo 3/Halo: Reach era of the franchise for inspiration.

Microsoft and 343 Industries have been pretty open about their desire for Infinite to harken back to the days of classic Halo. It’s set on a single Halo ring – Zeta Halo – much in the same way Halo: Combat Evolved was set on a ring, and the designs retain the more streamlined look of Bungie’s Halo games. Now, we know it’s because Halo 3 and Halo: Reach were the inspiration.

Resident Evil Village Set To Receive Free DLC

2 years 5 months ago

Capcom has said that Resident Evil Village is set to receive free DLC sometime in the future.

News of the free DLC was published in the company's recent annual integrated report. As part of the lengthy document, which looks back on the studio's year as a whole and also outlines its plans for the future, Capcom's Director and Executive Officer, Yoichi Egawa, spoke briefly about the company's development strategy and how plans for Resident Evil Village would factor into that.

"We will drive our customer management to understand the playing trends and preferences of users while also building a business model for online operations," said Egawa. "Taking into account the situation of our free additional DLC for titles such as Monster Hunter Rise and Resident Evil Village."

Currently, it's unclear what this free DLC will be. During its E3 panel earlier this year, Capcom confirmed that due to "popular demand," the studio was working on additional DLC for the game. However, since then, little more has been said on the topic.

343 Industries Releases New Look At Glow-Up Of The Year Winner Craig The Brute

2 years 5 months ago

When Microsoft and 343 Industries revealed the first-ever Halo Infinite campaign gameplay last year, it was met with a lot of criticism, and Craig the Brute was at the center of it all.

Craig, at the time, was just a standard brute. The poor guy showed up to work that day thinking he'd just be standing around, guarding an outpost, just like every day before. Craig was earning money to put food on the table for his family, and then one fateful day, Spartan 117, aka Master Chief, came knocking, and the brute had to get absolutely wrecked by him. As if that's not a tough enough workday, Craig became the central point of criticism regarding that gameplay showcase: people thought he didn't look great.

Well, look who's laughing now: Glow-Up of the Year winner Craig the Brute.

Where are all the good Stephen King games?

2 years 5 months ago

Halloweekend is almost upon us and sitting on my coffee table is my battered old paperback copy of Skeleton Crew, a 1985 collection of short horror stories by Stephen King. Back in my wild teenage years I binged King's entire back-catalogue of published fiction, and now that it's been long enough for me to have forgotten most of the details, I'm treating myself to some selective re-reads. Fair to say some of his stuff hasn't aged brilliantly, but despite many rough edges he undeniably remains one of my all-time favourite authors. I am, after all, a self-confessed horror nerd.

The Rally Point: The Riftbreaker is light on strategy but carries a lot with it

2 years 5 months ago

I hesitated. Not to play The Riftbreaker, you understand. I'd played its demo last year, which was enough to sell me on playing the full game. But to cover it as a strategy game is another matter.

It does games in particular a disservice to get prescriptive with genre, but there's no question that Riftbreaker falls under 'action strategy', with an even greater emphasis on action than, say, Hostile Waters or Sacrifice. But then, it also has detailed base building, tower defence, and a tonne of resource management. I've given up trying to categorise it, and it will always be distinct from most strategy games, but I think its peers could still learn a few things from it.

Dead By Daylight Adds Iconic Resident Evil Skins To The Game

2 years 5 months ago

To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Resident Evil, Behaviour Interactive has added several character skins in Dead By Daylight for Jill Valentine, Leon S. Kennedy, and Nemesis.

The character skins, which can be purchased now from the in-game store, represent each of the Resident Evil character's most iconic designs from different games in the franchise. There are two classic looks for Jill and Leon, two inspired by Chris and Claire Redfield, as well as a new gruesome look for Nemesis.

The "Nemesis Blight Set", which is the only original skin in the DLC pack, features a new look for the Tyrant, with yellow cysts growing all over his body, his eyes hidden, and just a generally more terrifying look.

The two Leon skins include the "Persistent Investigator"--directly inspired by the character's look in Resident Evil 4 with his brown jacket--and "Chris Redfield", a skin that makes Leon look like the Raccoon City police officer.

As for Jill, an "Impervious Agent" skin was revealed and is inspired by her look in Resident Evil 3, fitted with a skirt and blue top. With the "Claire Redfield" skin, Jill will be transformed into the other Redfield sibling, equipped with her iconic red, leather jacket and character model inspired by the Resident Evil 2 Remake.

This time, all of the skins can be bought in a bundle with the Resident Evil Collection, whereas last time the characters were introduced, players could only purchase legendary skins for them individually.
