Xbox's brilliant live quiz game 1 vs. 100 "definitely" making a comeback says report

2 years 5 months ago

Those of a certain age will remember the pure delights of Microsoft's brilliant (but distressingly short-lived) 1 vs. 100, a mass-participation, gameshow-style live trivia quiz which launched on Xbox 360 back in 2009. It was fab and much-missed, and if a new report is to be believed, now "definitely" set to make a comeback.

That's according to journalist (and reliable rumour-smith) Jeff Grubb, who discussed a new in-development take on 1 vs. 100 as part of his Giant Bomb show. As reported by VGC, Grubb claimed the new project will be developed by Altspace VR - part of Microsoft's Mixed Reality division - and will utilise the 3D avatars recently revealed for Microsoft Teams.

Fortnite Dark Phoenix Skin Brings X-Men Hero Jean Grey To Battle Royale

2 years 5 months ago

The new Fortnite Dark Phoenix (aka Jean Grey) skin is the latest in the ongoing Marvel series that routinely brings the titans of comics and gaming together. The X-Men hero known as Dark Phoenix arrives in Fortnite as a surprise release today. Typically Marvel skins launch as part of some cross-promotion, but sometimes, like in this case, it's just Fortnite being Fortnite.

Fortnite Dark Phoenix (Jean Grey) Skin

The new Jean Grey outfit in Fortnite is now available, meaning you don't have to wait to grab her and her complete cosmetic set. Included in the Dark Phoenix set are the following cosmetics:

  • Dark Phoenix (Jean Grey) skin
  • Phoenix Force back bling
  • Rising Phoenix emote
  • Wrath of the Phoenix loading screen
Rising from the ashes is Jean Grey, the latest Fortnite-Marvel crossover.

Both the back bling and the loading screen are sold in a bundle with the character skin, while the emote is sold separately. As for the likeness, this version of Dark Phoenix is not based on the hero as recently depicted in the X-Men movie series.

Instead, it seems Epic and Marvel worked together to create a new version of the hero, based in part on her comic book look but still unique to Fortnite, much like Thor, Iron-Man, and others before her. Occasionally, the Marvel skins do go for the Hollywood likeness though--just ask Eddie Brock.

2 years 5 months ago

It's been a long time coming, but Spider-Man is finally set to make his Marvel's Avengers debut - exclusively on PlayStation consoles, of course - at the end of this month, and developer Crystal Dynamics has offered a first proper look at the beleaguered live service game's take on the character in a new cinematic trailer.

Spider-Man, who arrives somewhat later than his initially announced "early" 2021 release date, will make his Marvel's Avenger's debut alongside a new hero event, titled With Great Power, which sees Spidey joining forces with Black Widow and Ms. Marvel to stop a new AIM plan.

Japan’s Aerobatic Team Blue Impulse Paints the Sky of Tokyo in Glorious Dragon Quest X Trailer

2 years 5 months ago

Today Square Enix released the newest expansion of Dragon Quest X, titled “Heroes of the Sky” and they’re celebrating in a very special way.

A trailer has been released showcasing Blue Impulse, the aerobatic demonstration team of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, pretty literally painting the sky of Tokyo with iconic Dragon Quest monsters.

We get to see the team’s Kawasaki T-4 jet trainers as they draw slimes, drackys, and more on the blue canvas over the skyscrapers of the Japanese capital, which is quite appropriate considering the heavenly theme of the expansion.

You can watch the trailer for yourself below.

Dragon Quest X is currently available for PS5, PS4, Switch, 3DS, Wii U, and PC, unfortunately only in Japanese.

An offline version, Dragon Quest X Offline will launch in Japan for PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on February 26, 2022.

Skyrim Anniversary Edition Celebrates Release By Offering Free Horse Armor

2 years 5 months ago

Oh, how things have changed. Fifteen years after gamers raised heck about horse armor in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Bethesda is discounting the infamous DLC in Skyrim Anniversary Edition, as first reported by PC Gamer.

Skyrim%20Anniversary%20Edition%20horse%20armor%20seen%20in%20the%20Creation%20Club.

The horse armor DLC can be found in Skyrim's Creation Club menu. You should see both versions (steel and elven) pop up in the Featured tab for download. From there, restart your game and head to any stable in the region. Find the NPC who sells you horses and there will be new dialogue to acquire armor for your valiant steed. Choose which version you want, pay the kind stableman 500 Septim, and you've officially pimped out your ride.

Halo Infinite Doesn't Have an Official Collector's Edition

2 years 5 months ago

One of the biggest games of the year, Halo Infinite, is not receiving an official Collector's Edition from 343 Industries.

Last week, a Halo Infinite Collector's Edition listing popped up at Walmart. It was limited to 10,000 copies and sold out soon after. It has not yet appeared on any other retailer such as Amazon or Best Buy.

Brian Jarrard, 343's community director, chimed in on Twitter to clarify the situation, writing, "Since a few folks have been asking about this--I can confirm that while various retailers around the world are expected to offer their own custom bundles, there is not an 'official' Collectors/Ultimate edition for Halo Infinite. Check your favorite retailer for options!"

So it looks like different retailers are throwing together a bunch of related Halo Infinite merchandise and goodies to make their own "Collector's Edition" packages. As of right now, Walmart is the only retailer that is offering such a bundle. It comes with items like a replica Energy Sword lamp, steel book, and mini-artbook, all put together in a neat "Halo Infinite" branded outer box. It certainly looks "official," if nothing else!

Genshin Impact Weapons: Types, Rarities, How To Obtain And Level Them

2 years 5 months ago

Like other RPGs, weapons are an important part of building your characters in Genshin Impact. Not only do they provide the bulk of your attack power, but the weapon's passive ability provides an opportunity to create synergy with the rest of a character's build. Whether you are looking to put together a character that focuses on pure DPS, healing, or tanking, picking the right weapon is an important part of the build. Here's everything you need to know about weapons in Genshin Impact.

Different Weapon Types And Rarities

Aloy from Horizon Zero Dawn with her Bow weapon

In Genshin Impact, there are five different types of weapons: swords, claymores, bows, polearms, and catalysts. Every character is limited to a single type of weapon that they can equip and only one weapon can be equipped at a time. In addition to the five main categories, weapons also have rarities, ranging from a one-star to a five-star ranking. Weapons with a higher rarity have better stat scaling, so a level 20 three-star sword will typically have a lower ATK stat than a level 20 five-star sword.

Call Of Duty: Vanguard Update Adjusts Spawns And Fixes Broken FOV Slider

2 years 5 months ago

Call of Duty: Vanguard's November 11 update addresses spawn issues and several bugged challenges, which are mentioned in the patch notes provided in the in-game menus. Additionally, Sledgehammer Games has provided some of the update highlights on Twitter.

This new update adjusts some spawns for the multiplayer maps Numa Numa and Desert Siege, but also works to address a few of Vanguard's bugged challenges. Many players have voiced frustration about in-game challenges that won't properly track, and while many weapon camo challenges still seem to be bugged, the November 11 patch notes confirm the developer has implemented a fix for the reticle challenges that were not tracking past the first challenge tier. The update also corrects the Field of View setting bug, which locked some players' Field of View slider and prevented them from adjusting their view.

Playdate Orders Delayed Until Early 2022 Due to Battery Issues

2 years 5 months ago

Today, Panic announced that the first installment of their upcoming handheld device, Playdate, has been pushed back from its 2021 shipping schedule due to a critical battery issue. Since this issue wasn’t caught until late in the process, it result in the team having to replace the batteries of all Playdates currently in production.

As such, they’ve decided to delay the release until some point in 2022. When addressing the issue, Panic’s Cabel Sasser sent the following to all pre-order holders via a newsletter update.

“This quickly turned into a months-long, all-hands-on-deck research stress-ball, and we halted production at the factory,” said Sasser.“We made the difficult, expensive call to replace all of our existing batteries with new ones from a totally different battery supplier.”

You can find the full summary of what the newsletter entailed bulleted below:

  • The new needed batteries also mean much better battery life for Playdate
  • Future manufactured Playdates will have new CPU chips and re-designed boards (won’t change anything to the end product, a needed change due to the ongoing worldwide chip shortage)
  • The Playdate Pulp Public Beta will launch in January; you will not need a Playdate in order to participate in the Beta.
  • The full Playdate SDK should be arriving in February.
  • Season 1 update: Playdate Season One begins when you set up your Playdate for the first time. You’ll get two games immediately, then every Monday you’ll get two brand new games, for three months.

For more information, head on over to the official website. We will also be sure to keep you updated here at Twinfinite if any more news becomes available.

What Next Board Game Review

2 years 5 months ago

Most popular tabletop role-playing systems favor dice to determine whether or not the player’s actions succeed or fail. It was frustration with their arbitrary nature that lead the designer of What Next to create this, his very first game. It's a cooperative family adventure in which success is determined by a variety of dexterity challenges instead of dice.

There are three adventures of increasing difficulty to choose from: a wilderness rescue, a superhero yarn and a sci-fi escape tale.

What’s in the Box

The box of What Next is noteworthy in itself. Rather than a slide-off lid, it has a gatefold opening with a magnetic clasp. There’s an archway cut into the outer flap with a cartoon mural beneath that introduces your adventure. These kinds of boxes are common for smaller games, but this is a full-sized box and the effect is charming, like you’re being welcomed into a favorite novel.

Within there’s such an eclectic set of components that you could be forgiven in thinking you’d bought a design kit rather than a game. There are three boxes of cards, one for each adventure, each holding three decks of different sizes for locations, events and items. A paper bag holds a variety of blue plastic shapes, another holds irregular purple blocks made of sturdy foam. A drawstring bag holds an even more irregular set of yellow plastic pieces.

In terms of cardboard, you have to assemble three dials, one for each adventure, to track time. There’s also a long cardboard wedge, marked into areas, which goes with a wooden puck piece. It’s an intriguing collection that’ll pique your curiosity to see them in play.

PSA: WoW Classic Season Of Mastery Name And Server Reservations Start Today

2 years 5 months ago

World of Warcraft Classic's Season of Mastery begins November 16, but players with an active subscription or game time on their account can reserve their character name and server of choice starting today.

To reserve a name, you need to have installed the WoW Classic game client and then navigate to whichever Season of Mastery server you wish to make a character on. Season of Mastery servers will be noted in the server list. Name reservations for North American servers will begin at 6 PM PST.

Only a certain number of names can be reserved per server before that server becomes closed for character reservations, so if you have your mind set on one, be sure to get in early. There are a total of eight servers available for North American players to choose from, and servers will open up to more characters once Season of Mastery officially launches.

Players will be able to have a grand total of 50 WoW Classic characters shared across Season of Mastery and original WoW Classic servers. Players can have an additional 50 characters for both Burning Crusade Classic and the current Shadowlands expansion.
