Evangelion Spear of Gaius Wedding Ring Costs Over $900

2 years 2 months ago

Evangelion Wedding Ring

An Evangelion wedding ring has appeared, and it will cost ¥110,000 (about $954). The ring's design is based on the Spear of Gaius from the Evangelion 3.0+1.0 film. Purchases are open via the U-Treasure website, with orders open until December 31, 2030. Shipping will take approximately 8 weeks.

The rings are made of platinum and come in a variety of sizes. It's important to note that sizing standards differ from country to country, so the size numbers listed on the U-Treasure website may not be the same in other countries. The width of the band itself ranges from 2.7mm to 6.1mm, and the thickness is between 1.5 to 2.7mm. You can also choose to add an engraving of your choice. As long as it's under eight symbols total, you can engrave anything from Japanese symbols to the alphabet, periods, and ampersands.

The Spear of Gaius is a new weapon that appeared in Evangelion 3.0+1.0. Fittingly, the spear represents the will of humankind, similar to how the Spear of Longinus represents "despair" and the Spear of Cassius represents "hope." The wedding ring incorporates the Spear of Gaius' three-pronged design. U-Treasure states that the ring can be used both as an engagement ring as well as a wedding band.

You can get a better look at the Evangelion wedding ring in the screenshots below:

Off-Topic: Wisdom from the wings of a theatre

2 years 2 months ago

"We're doing it for us." Those five words changed how I felt about acting in plays at theatres, and maybe about things in my wider life too. I overheard someone say them during rehearsals and to begin with, I didn't like what I heard. It sounded like someone saying, 'It doesn't really matter what the audience thinks because we're doing this for us, not them.' And it sounded like a cop-out.

To me, the whole point of a production had been pushing for the best possible outcome. It was a prestige thing. We gave up evenings and weekends so the audiences would be wowed by our creation and give us - potentially - ovations and wonderful reviews. Things we could feel validated about, things we could boast of. But what I heard flew in the face of that and seemed to suggest it was OK not to push so hard.

Resident Evil 3 Remake Has Sold Over 5 Million Copies Worldwide

2 years 2 months ago

After the success of the Resident Evil 2 remake, Capcom quickly capitalized on that and announced and released the Resident Evil 3 remake for PC and consoles. And since the game’s launch back in April 2020, Capcom has announced that it’s officially surpassed 5 million copies sold globally.

This figure comes from sales calculated across all three platforms: PS4, Xbox One, and PC, and it’s a pretty significant milestone especially when you consider that RE3 isn’t quite as popular as the more iconic Resident Evil 2.

Just like the RE2 remake, Resident Evil 3 also made use of Capcom’s proprietary RE Engine to achieve the stunning graphics and effects we see in that game. It fleshes out and changes some of the memorable sections from the original game, and while it still doesn’t quite reach the highs of its predecessor, it’s still a pretty respectable entry.

Resident Evil 3 is now available on PC and consoles.

Bandai Namco Announces Growing Financial Results; Tales of Arise Enjoys “Strong” Sales

2 years 2 months ago

Today Bandai Namco announced its financial results for the first nine months of the fiscal year, which ended on December 31, 2021.

The company reported results well ahead of the previous fiscal year, with net sales growing by 15.6% and operating profit growing by 26.4%

This also caused Bandai Namco to increase its full-year forecast for both parameters to 810 billion yen and 96 billion yen respectively.

Bandai Namco

In the digital content business, sales of Tales of Arise were “strong” and repeat sales of existing games were also solid. Unfortunately, the network contents business brought the segment down with performance that did not compare favorably with the previous fiscal year, resulting in overall sales for the business down 4.6% year-on-year, while income was down 20.6% year-on-year.

The NYT Crossword Asks Players To Choose Between Star Wars And Star Trek

2 years 2 months ago

The New York Times' iconic crossword seemed set to stoke nerd rivalries on Sunday when its central theme clue asked players to name "the better of two sci-fi franchises" with the first word "STAR." In a tricky bit of wordplay, however, the puzzle and its surrounding word clues work no matter whether you choose to insert "STAR WARS" or "STAR TREK."

The clever crossword was pointed out by Twitter user @matttomic, who posted a screenshot of the crossword's central theme set with both "WARS" and "TREK" filled in.

The clever wordplay didn't stop with the central grid. As another Twitter user pointed out, a number of other clues in the crossword relied on puzzlers knowing that the clue in 70-across referred to both Star Wars and Star Trek.

A number of matched puzzles elsewhere in the grid asked for answers from both franchises--for example "major role" at both 38-across and 99-across required players to know both "HAN SOLO" and "MR SPOCK." Other themed clues asked for the franchises' "good side," and a "memorable quote."

Fortnite Won't Be Supported Natively On The Steam Deck

2 years 2 months ago

Ahead of the Steam Deck's launch on February 25, Tim Sweeney has confirmed on Epic Games doesn't have plans to support Fortnite for Valve's handheld gaming device. In response to a question by another Twitter user, Sweeney explained that Epic is working hard to improve Easy Anti Cheat's compatibility for the Steam Deck--but just not for Fortnite.

Though Fortnite isn't available on Steam, the Steam Deck is designed as an open platform, meaning users can install games outside of Steam's storefront. Like other large, online multiplayer titles, Fortnite faces issues with its anti-cheat software on the Steam Deck's Linux-based OS.

In response to a question asking whether Epic would update Fortnite "to make Proton/Wine be compatible with EAC and BattlEye anti-cheat on Linux." In response, Sweeney answered that there were no plans to update Fortnite, but that there's "a big effort underway" to improve Easy Anti Cheat for other games on the Steam Deck.

When asked why Fortnite was excluded from that initiative, Sweeney explained that it was mainly a matter of scale, with anti-cheat requirements differing vastly depending how many regular players a game gets.

Latest Pokemon Legends: Arceus Commercial Is a Parody of a Soap Opera

2 years 2 months ago

Just a few days ago, the official Pokemon YouTube channel treated us to a commercial for Pokemon Legends: Arceus in the style of an Antiques Roadshow parody featuring Basculegion. Now, you can watch one that mimics classic Spanish soap operas. This time, it’s all about Hisuian Growlithe.

The commercial starts with a woman in a dramatic monologue speaking to an unseen lover, or at least that’s who we assume it is. She mentions how she needs someone who will travel the world with her, someone who will light the fire inside of her, and someone who will be her rock.

Of course, if you’re familiar with Pokemon Legends: Arceus, you might be able to guess that she isn’t talking about a lover after all. She’s describing Hisuian Growlithe, who we then see in the commercial as a giant plush.

These latest commercials are an amazing throwback to the quirky gaming advertisements of the past that don’t take themselves too seriously. They’re actually pretty funny and are certainly attention-grabbing, and of course, Hisuian Growlithe is a notable new regional variant of a popular Fire-type Pokemon.

It seems to be in a series of trailers for advertising the new game with the theme of “It’s Pokemon, but not as you know it!” The description for this one is appropriate: “Is it Hisuian Growlithe? Is Hisuian Growlithe the drama?” playing off of a viral video catchphrase.

You can watch the commercial in its entirety below.

Pokemon Legends: Arceus is out now for the Nintendo Switch.

Wordle Has Taken Over the Game Boy, Too

2 years 2 months ago

Created by Josh Wardle and recently acquired by the New York Times, Wordle is might very well be the most played game in the world right now. The fun little word game has taken the world by storm, allowing players to guess a five letter word each day, but with only six guesses.

Wordle clones have popped up all over the internet, but this little project is standing out from the rest of the pack. Twitter user stackmashing unveiled his project on the social media platform, showing off a port of Wordle running on the Game Boy.

Due to the Game Boy’s limited hardware, the port doesn’t contain the full Wordle list, and instead uses a bloom filter to check if an entered word is one of the 8,000 most common English words. Still, it looks pretty nifty on the handheld device, and you can download the ROM yourself and flash it on a cart, then play it on a Game Boy or Analogue Pocket if you’ve got one.

Dying Light 2 to Get Several Hotfixes Next Week, Fixing Crashes, Black Screen Issues, & More

2 years 2 months ago

Developed by Techland, Dying Light 2 has just been released for PC and consoles. While the melee action and parkour are still the biggest highlights of the game and help to carry the overall experience, it’s also been plagued by several bugs and crashes since launch.

For instance, players have reported issues like encountering black screens when loading into a new instance or not being able to sell items to vendors, as well as crashes that would cause the game to just stop running completely. In light of these issues, Techland has been working to push out fixes to improve the experience.

More hotfixes have been planned for the game over the next week or so, which they’ve outlined on their official Twitter account.

Several fixes are ready for implementation, but Techland is also working on other areas like support for custom mice on PC, more video and graphical settings, along with the addition of backup saves.

Dying Light 2: Stay Human is now available on PC and consoles.

Marvel Strike Force Epitomizes Why Players Are Wary Of Free-To-Play Games

2 years 2 months ago

When I played a pre-launch build of Marvel Strike Force at the 2018 Game Developers Conference, I was excited to dive into the multiversal battlefield the team at FoxNext created. The solid turn-based combat, an ever-growing roster of beloved Marvel heroes and villains, and compelling hero-collecting elements borrowed from games like Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes drew me in from the jump. I couldn't wait to get the launch version on my phone. When Marvel Strike Force arrived on iOS and Android in late March 2018, I was immediately hooked

Early on, the premium elements felt pricey yet largely unnecessary if you played the game a decent amount and completed all your daily objectives. Sure, dropping some cash accelerated your progress, but I was largely free-to-play for the first year of the game's life. However, once I did selectively begin spending money, the microtransactions I chose felt rewarding and valuable. Unfortunately, as the game's lifespan approaches the start of its fifth year, the transactions feel less "micro" as offers ranging from $50 to $100 a pop are more common in the game's marketplace, in addition to two simultaneous battle passes that set purchasing players back $20 each per month.

GTA Remastered Trilogy May Have Sold Up to 10 Million Units Despite Technical Issues

2 years 3 months ago

The GTA Trilogy Definitive Edition, which launched back in November, landed with a whole host of technical issues that earned plenty of criticism from fans (and us). But that doesn't seem to have stopped it from selling very, very well.

Take-Two just gave its quarterly earnings report, during which the company said the trilogy, "significantly exceed[ed] our commercial expectations." That's nice to hear, even if it doesn't really tell the whole story, as companies can essentially set whatever metrics they want internally and then say a game exceeded them.

But a bit of clever math on the part of VGC might have gotten at its actual sales metrics. Take-Two reported that the entire GTA series to date has sold over 370 million copies, while GTA V has sold over 160 million on its own as of the quarter's end in January. That's up from the numbers they reported last quarter of 355 million for the series, and 155 million for GTA V alone. If you look back at earnings reports from recent past quarters, it's fairly consistent that GTA V's sales line up exactly with overall series sales increases — but there's a 10 million unit discrepancy.

Dying Light 2 Infected Trophies: What Are They And Best Farming Strategy

2 years 3 months ago

In Dying Light 2, you'll need plenty of Infected Trophies on hand in order to craft some of the game's best mods. Really, Infected Trophies are so commonly used in crafting recipes that you'll need to have a bunch almost no matter the items you're trying to craft. Here's what you need to know about these "trophies" scattered across the world of Villedor.

Dying Light 2 Infected Trophies

Infected Trophies aren't the sort of hardware you'd hang on your mantle at home. They're much more grotesque than that. Though it's never quite clear precisely what they are, one gross clue is that they're only able to be scavenged from the dead bodies of special infected. Ears? Fingers? It's probably best we don't know for sure.

Anyway, you'll need plenty of these in order to upgrade items and blueprints, such as health kits, lockpicks, and throwables. Upgrading these items regularly allows Aiden's tools to improve as he does. Even if you have great gear and plenty of HP from finding Inhibitors, a lowly base-level health kit isn't going to save you when you're in a bind against some tough bosses and enemies later in the game.

GTA5 shifts another 5m copies in latest Take-Two financials, bringing total to 160m

2 years 3 months ago

Despite originally launching back in 2013, Grand Theft Auto 5 remains a force to be reckoned with; according to Take-Two's latest quarterly earnings report, Rockstar's irrepressible open-world opus has managed to shift another 5m copies since November, bringing its lifetime sales up to 160m - and the publisher also had a little more to say about NFTs.

Alongside Grand Theft Auto 5's quarterly rise, Take-Two's updated numbers show a continuing boost for the GTA series as a whole, which has now sold over 370 million units - an increase of 15m since November. However, as the publisher opted not to share sales data for its much-maligned GTA: The Trilogy - Definitive Edition, it's unclear how much the troubled remaster contributed to that remaining 10m figure - although CEO Strauss Zelnick did say the game had "significantly exceeded" the company's commercial expectations.

Tommy Tallarico Steps Down As Intellivision CEO

2 years 3 months ago

Intellivision Entertainment’s founder and CEO Tommy Tallarico is stepping down from his position, IGN reports. Tallarico, best known as a prolific video game composer, purchased and relaunched Intellivision in 2018 to manufacture the Amico, a new console aimed at attracting more casual players that has had a troubled production cycle since it was announced nearly four years ago.

Tallarico will remain with Intellivision, transitioning to the role of company president. He is also the company's largest shareholder. Chief revenue officer Phil Adam will replace him as CEO. A statement from Intellivision provided to IGN says the change was done “to better align its resources with those new challenges" regarding the Amico's development.

"As a 30+ year industry executive, I am excited to transition into the CEO role at Intellivision," Phil Adams says in the statement. "As a business closing in on the last phase before launch, Tommy felt it important to provide focused roles so he can continue to do the things he loves the most. As always, we will be working hand in hand to bring Amico to the market."

Epic's Tim Sweeney Says Fortnite Won't Be Updated To Run On Steam Deck

2 years 3 months ago

When Valve's Steam Deck releases later this month, it should be possible to play Fortnite on the new handheld. However, it won't be easy.

In series of tweets posted over the weekend, Epic CEO Tim Sweeney told fans that there no current plans to update Fortnite so that it works with Proton — the compatibility layer that allows Windows games to run on Steam Deck's default operating system. As a result, Fortnite fans will have to jump through a few additional hoops if they want to get the battle royale running on Valve's handheld.

The crux of the problem is Epic's Easy Anti-Cheat system, which is not currently compatible with Proton. With Linux being a more open-ended platform than Windows, Sweeney says he's not confident that it will be possible to combat cheating "at scale" on the platform.

"We don't have confidence that we’d be able to combat cheating at scale under a wide array of kernel configurations including custom ones," Sweeney said.

When another user accused of Sweeney of "not trust his own product," he pointed to Fortnite's sheer size as the issue.

"With regard to anti-cheat on the Linux platform supporting custom kernels and the threat model to a game of Fortnite's size, YES THAT'S EXACTLY RIGHT!" Sweeney replied.

Sony And Gran Turismo 7 Dev Tease Big AI News For This Week

2 years 3 months ago

Sony AI and Polyphony Digital released a teaser for a project between them which will be revealed on February 9. The announcement is related to the Gran Turismo franchise, which Polyphony Digital is known for.

The trailer shows the Gran Turismo logo towards the end, as well as images of car engines and players with steering wheels. Late last year, both Sony AI and Polyphony partnered on a paper that explored the possibility of teaching AI how to drive cars in Grain Turismo based on visual cues. The reveal on Wednesday might be the culmination of that research. The slogan "Race Together" appears in the teaser, indicating that the pair plan to showcase some sort of breakthrough in the game's racing AI.

Gran Turismo 7 is the latest project from Polyphony Digital and is set to launch on March 4 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5. Last week, Sony had a State of Play presentation featuring about 40 minutes of new gameplay and footage from Gran Turismo 7.

Dying Light 2 - The Office Easter Egg: Where To Find Dwight's Note

2 years 3 months ago

In Dying Light 2, Easter eggs can be found all over the city of Villedor, leading you to things like secret weapons or even a special hoverboard. The secrets go beyond new in-universe items too, like a fun nod to The Office (US version) and its stickler of an assistant (to the) regional manager, Dwight Schrute. Here's how to find the Dying Light 2 / The Office Easter egg, which will also help you find all of the game's 117 mementos.

Dying Light 2 - Dwight Schrute Easter egg

To find the Office Easter egg in Dying Light 2, you'll need to have unlocked the Central Loop region, which comes about 10 hours into the game and introduces fast travel. Once you can move freely through Central Loop, head to the northeast corner of the Garrison district to the Culvert Island landmark.

When you get there, look for the three-story shelter with pumpkins outside of it and approach the door on the ground floor. To the left of the door, you'll find a note stuck to the wall talking about someone needing a stapler. You can pick it up to add it to your collection of mementos. The note reads as follows:

"I'm looking for a stapler. Broken / defective? That's A-OK! As a former office manager, I amassed quite a stockpile of staples. I have a ton of them. Probably literally. If I can get my hands on a stapler, I could make life easier for a lot of people. Heck, could even open a business. I'm open to any mutually beneficial relationship that gets me... a STAPLER!"

A Growing Guide Of Easy Achievements For Xbox Series X/S And One

2 years 3 months ago

Rather than keeping all of my achievement-unlocking secrets to myself, I decided to put together a list of the games that deliver the easiest points in hardly any time at all. Should you find yourself obsessing over achievements as I do, I hope this guide serves you well. It'll be updated whenever I find a new game that you need to know about. As it stands now, this guide should boost your gamerscore well over 50,000 in no time flat.

6180 The Moon

  • 16 Achievements
  • 1,000 Points
  • Time Requirement: 3-4 Hours

If you're respectable at platformer games, 6180 The Moon is a fun little game to venture into. While the challenges are difficult, checkpoints are in great abundance, and progress is inevitable if you stick with it. For each planet that is unlocked, the player nets a nice 50- or 100-point achievement. There are only two challenging achievements:

Gravity Free: 40 Points
M2 is the easiest stage to unlock this achievement on. It may take a few tries, but you should be able to make it to end without hitting the jump button.

Faster Than Light: 40 Points
As the difficulty ramps up, light is needed to make progress easier. While this achievement can technically be unlocked on numerous levels, VR3 is the one most people have had success with. Run along the barriers and you should be able to make it without the light.

Take-Two CEO: More GTA 6 News Will Be Shared on Rockstar's Schedule

2 years 3 months ago

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been officially announced, but that doesn’t mean we’re going to start seeing a wave of new info just yet. Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick says that the decision to reveal more information lies firmly with Rockstar Games.

Speaking to IGN ahead of Take-Twos quarterly financials, Zelnick says that its labels “always decide when and how to announce their upcoming products,” including the recent GTA 6 confirmation. Zelnick adds, “Obviously people need to stay tuned, a lot more information to be shared and Rockstar will do so in time.”

Given the secret nature of the game, Zelnick would not divulge any specific details. However, as CEO the goal for the next Grand Theft Auto is to build on the success of Grand Theft Auto 5, which is one of the best-selling games of all time. This has set a high bar for Rockstar to clear.

“Each iteration for all of our successful franchises at this company, all of them, has always done better than the one before,” Zelnick says. “I’m not saying that’ll happen again, I’m not saying that’s guaranteed, but that’s certainly our goal.”

With 160 million worldwide sales, this is certainly a big lift for Rockstar. But at the same time, Grand Theft 5 has been out for nearly nine years, so there’s no telling how Grand Theft Auto 6 could do in the same timeframe.

Sifu: Kuroki (The Artist) Boss Fight Guide

2 years 3 months ago

Coming off the intense battle with Sean, Sifu players might be terrified to take on The Museum’s boss, Kuroki (The Artist). Thankfully, this fight is a little easier than the previous, giving you many opportunities to attack, thanks to the way Kuroki telegraphs her moves. Still, even the simplest Sifu fight is challenging, so you’ll want to come prepared to make it as easy as possible. Here’s how to defeat the Kuroki boss in Sifu.

How to defeat Kuroki

This fight is taken right out of Kill Bill. We won’t spoil the movie here, but if you’ve seen it, you know exactly what we’re talking about. You can come equipped with a weapon, which will serve you well, but doing so will require you to block and parry, which is risky in this fight. If you choose to use a weapon, make sure you keep up with your Structure bar so you don’t get caught off guard.

The best way to get through this fight is to run up to Kuroki, stop when you’re around five feet away from her to bait her into attacking, and then run away in a counterclockwise rotation using the R2 button. Wait for her to finish her combo, which usually consists of five or more consecutive attacks, and as soon as she stops for a second, run up to her side and get a few strikes in. Since her combos vary in length, you’ll want to bait her and run back multiple times so you can get a sense of her full moveset. Typically, it’s easy to tell when her combo is over, but it might take multiple tries to remember which is which.

Take-Two CEO Says Play-to-Earn Games Aren't Currently Entertaining; But They Could Be Someday

2 years 3 months ago

Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has historically voiced a healthy mixture of curiosity and caution whenever it comes to new trends in the games industry, and thus far, his stance on blockchain and NFTs has been no exception.

Previously, Zelnick has expressed interest in blockchain technology as technology, but thought its uses for cryptocurrency and NFTs are solidly in the camp of speculation. Only a financial quarter later, that view hasn't changed, even though his company's visible interest in the tech has grown.

Take-Two announced its intent to acquire Zynga back in January, and with it, its interest in NFTs and recently hired of a VP of blockchain gaming. Speaking to IGN to coincide with Take-Two's third-quarter earnings today, Zelnick affirms his lack of interest in speculation, saying it always ends badly for at least some.

But he does express optimism about the opportunities in the space. He says a lot of industry talent is moving into the blockchain space, and "where talent is, the market follows."
