7 games with the best AI

1 year 10 months ago

No, not SHODAN or GLaDOS. I mean the other sort. The magic formulae of raw computer nonsense that runs under the cover of your favourite game and makes enemies flank you, or friendly NPCs toss a health kit just in time. Good AI is not an unbeatable genius. It is smartly stupid. It is both surprisingly clever and capable of wonderful carelessness. It can remind us of ourselves. Quick-witted on a good day, an absolute dunderhead on a bad one. Here's a list of the 7 best AI in PC games.

How to Get Allays to Help You Collect Items in Minecraft

1 year 10 months ago

Allays are one of the new mobs in Minecraft’s The Wild update, and are friendly little things that’ll do a little dance for you. Not only that, but Allays can be used to help you collect items in Minecraft, which can be particularly handy if you’re adventuring far away from your base.

How to Get Allays to Find & Collect Items in Minecraft

Before you can use an Allay to find items for you in your blocky world, you’ll need to know where to find and tame Allays in Minecraft. These can be found in both Pillager Outposts and Woodland Mansions, inside little jail cells.

Once you’ve freed the Allay from its prison, you can give it any item you want it to find and collect and it’ll fly off and start searching for it. To give an Allay an item, select it from your inventory/ quickbar and then right-click on PC or press L2/ LT/ L consoles to give it to them.

The Allay will then follow the player around from up to 64 blocks away and will search for more of the item you’ve given it up to 32 blocks away from the player.

It’s worth noting that an Allay only has one inventory slot, so it can only hold one stack of whichever item you give it. It also can’t search for multiple items at a time, so make sure you’re prioritizing the items you really need.

1 year 10 months ago

Staff who worked for Bethesda on post-apocalyptic multiplayer RPG Fallout 76 have come forward to share their stories from its development, and they don’t make for pleasant reading. Developers who spoke anonymously to Kotaku said they’d crunched in ten-hour shifts over six days a week prior to Fallout 76’s launch, with some saying they fantasised about being injured to avoid having to come into work the following day.

Here's what you get in The Last of Us Part 1's $69, $79 and $99 editions

1 year 10 months ago

Last night, Naughty Dog officially unveiled its The Last of Us Part 1 remake for the PS5, and confirmed it will also make its way to PC in the future. Ahead of this reveal, we also got our first look at the price - $70 - via a leak online. That in itself was enough to cause many to raise an eyebrow, as while the game certainly does look smoother thanks to its current gen make-over, it is also a game that has been released twice before.

Today, we now have even more information on this release, such as the three editions that will be released. And I am sorry to say this folks, but that £70/$70 will only get you the base game and its prequel Left Behind. If you want to get your hands on the The Last of Us Part 1's Digital Deluxe edition, you are going to have to part ways with £80/$80. Meanwhile, if you are looking to purchase The Last of Us Part I Firefly Edition, which is only available to buy as an exclusive directly from PlayStation in the US, you are looking at just shy of $100.

So, what exactly do you get with these editions to make them worth the money?

New Blue Lock Teaser Gives Us a Brief Glimpse of King Barou

1 year 10 months ago

The Blue Lock anime adaptation is set to premiere later this year, but before that, there are still plenty of characters to show off. We’ve already seen most of the main cast in Team Z, including Yoichi Isagi, Meguru Bachira, and Hyoma Chigiri, which means it’s time to take a look at some of the early antagonists.

You can check out the new teaser video down below showing off Shoei Barou:

Barou is initially revealed as a member of Team X, which goes up against Team Z in one of the early challenges. He’s often referred to as the King due to his selfish nature during soccer matches, where he refuses to pass the ball to his teammates and relies on his direct shots to score goals and carry his team to victory.

There are still plenty of other fan-favorite characters to look forward to like Rin Itoshi and Nagi Seishiro. Blue Lock is set to premiere this October.

Summer Game Fest aims to run physical show next year

1 year 10 months ago

Geoff Keighley's Summer Game Fest - which aired last night, in case you missed it - will return as both a digital and physical event next year, the host has announced.

This will, presumably, put the show in direct competition with E3 - which has also announced a plan to return next year digitally and in-person.

Keighley, of course, previously worked on programming at E3 before the two went separate ways. And while the physical E3 event has been cancelled the past two years, Summer Game Fest has been angled as something of a replacement.

Mario Strikers Battle League: How To Use Tackle & Charged Tackle

1 year 10 months ago

Defense can win championships, and in Mario Strikers: Battle League, that is definitely true as you go up against different teams of familiar Mario characters on your quest to bring home all of the cups. By keeping the opposition from your goal, you will have a much better chance to win the game by going up the other end and attacking. For players hoping to learn just how to use tackle and Charged Tackle in Mario Strikers: Battle League, you are in the right spot.

How To Use Tackle & Charged Tackle in Mario Strikers: Battle League

When the opponents have the ball in their possession, it is imperative for you to win it back as soon as possible. You can do this in Mario Strikers: Battle League in two ways – a normal tackle and a charged tackle.

Tackle

To tackle an opponent with a regular tackle, simply aim in their direction and press the Y button. This will cause your character to reach out and attempt to wrestle the ball away from your opponent. However, it is important to note that size and strength do matter, so if your character is small, like Toad, it will be impossible to get the ball off someone like Bowser. To do that, you will need a Charged Tackle.

Helltaker Justice Nendoroid

Good Smile Company opened pre-orders for the Helltaker Justice Nendoroid after an earlier reveal back in February 2022. The Nendoroid will cost $63.99 and ship sometime in February 2023. Pre-orders are already available and will close on July 20, 2022. Pre-order bonuses include a postcard featuring character design illustrations by Lukasz Piskorz.

Justice aka The Awesome Demon is one of the seven demons Helltaker meets in the game. She wears sunglasses that hide her blindness as well as red fingerless gloves and appears eating rolled-up pancakes. Last year, fans voted her to be the next Helltaker character to receive a Nendoroid figure, alongside Cerberus and Modeus.

https://twitter.com/GoodSmile_US/status/1535100471710519325?s=20&t=_d37dhnAKW6XLYCoJkFjtg

The Nendoroid will come with three faceplates, each bearing a different expression. One of the faceplates will have the demon munching on some pancakes, with visible crumbs on her face. Another will have her wearing a sly smile. Her sunglasses are removable. Additionally, the Nendoroid will come with a sparkle effect sheet to mimic her appearance in-game.

How to Free Jacob from the Cage in The Quarry (Spoilers)

1 year 10 months ago

During Chapter 8, as Laura and Ryan go exploring the old Hackett house and the mine underneath it, you’ll eventually come across Jacob in an electrified cage (if he hadn’t died before this). This guide will explain how to free Jacob from the cage in The Quarry so he can survive until the very end of the game.

This guide will dive into late-game spoilers, particularly regarding Chapter 8, the locals and the potential outcome of Jacob. If you’d like to enjoy the game spoiler-free, we recommend turning back now.

As Jacob rightfully points out, your goal here is to disarm and open his cage door, and the middle cage door, without opening the cage door of the monster on the other side. If you open the monster’s door and either of the other two, you can kill Jacob or Ryan and Laura, so be very careful.

How to Get Jacob Out of the Cage without Killing Him in The Quarry

To disarm the cage doors, you’ll need to use the circuit breakers on the wall across from the cages themselves. When Ryan has the choice to free Jacob or leave him, choose to free him and he’ll walk over to the circuit breaker.

When he turns around, you’ll see numbers above each of the cage doors. Jacob’s cage number is 3, the middle one is 5, and the monster’s cage is 7.

Now you need to pull two circuit breakers that add up to the cage number you want to disarm and open. So, for Jacob’s cage, you want to pull lever 1 and lever 2. Once you do this Jacob’s cage door will swing open.

Next, you need to flick circuit lever 1 and lever 4. These add up to five, and so when you do, the middle cage door will open.

What Officer Hackett’s Computer Code Is in The Quarry (Bizarre Yet Bonafide Trophy/ Achievement)

1 year 10 months ago

During Chapter 7 of The Quarry, you’ll be playing as Laura in a flashback scene at the police station. After Laura and Max were captured and arrested by Officer Hackett, events unfold that shed more light on why the police office was so insistent the two went to the motel. At one point, Laura will be able to explore the police station to search for clues on exactly what’s going on at Hackett Quarry. While you don’t have to in order to advance the story, players can get Officer Hackett’s computer password in The Quarry to get some more information on what’s happening at the camp.

Before we go any further, it’s worth noting that we’re diving into some spoiler territory for The Quarry, as this is pretty late on in the story. While we won’t give too much away about what the monster is or exactly what’s going on, there are some unavoidable spoilers here, so turn back if you want to enjoy this campy teen horror spoiler-free.

In order to access Officer Hackett’s computer, you actually need to go and find the passcode within the police station based on the hint the computer gives you, which is “Birthday.” You can’t just enter it in yourself.

How to Get Officer Hackett’s Computer Password in The Quarry

First, return to the main room of the police station and then use the stairs to reach the upper floor.

Head into the first door you come across and interact with the birthday card. This is on the notice board in this room, so walk over to it and interact with it and Laura will get the first of two clues she needs to crack Officer Hackett’s password.

Why Did Bobby the Local Shoot His Finger Off in The Quarry? (Spoilers)

1 year 10 months ago

Wondering why Bobby the local shoots his finger off after Nick bites it in Chapter 3 of The Quarry? This guide will explain everything you need to know, but be warned, we’re diving into some serious spoiler territory, so if you’re wanting to enjoy the game spoiler-free, turn back now.

During Chapter 3, Nick and Abi are the two counselors to have the first encounter with the monster that’ll be terrorizing the group for the remainder of the game. While Abi can avoid being attacked, Nick isn’t so lucky, and is mauled by the monster.

Depending on how fast you are reaching Kaitlyn and Ryan, and how well you do with the quick time events when you’re running to find Nick as Ryan, you may see Bobby the local dragging Nick away. If you’re not fast enough, they’ll have already disappeared by the time Ryan gets there.

If you do make it in time, Nick will bite the finger of Bobby the local and break free from his clutches, allowing him to get away with Ryan and back to the safety of the group.

After Nick has bitten Bobby’s finger, the local pulls out his pistol, aims at his finger and shoots it off at point blank range. But why does he do that?

One last final spoiler warning here. If you don’t want major plot points of The Quarry spoiling, turn back now.

Why Does Bobby Shoot His Finger Off After Nick Bites It?

Because Nick has been bitten by the monster, he is now infected and carries the virus. He can now pass this onto other people by biting them, and will eventually succumb to the virus himself, but that doesn’t necessarily mean he’s dead.

How to Unlock Galactic Mode in Mario Strikers Battle League

1 year 10 months ago

Mario Strikers: Battle League sees the return of everyone’s favorite characters from the Mushroom Kingdom as they engage in a few friendly soccer matches. Except, Bowser can straight up grab the ball and toss it, and no one has any qualms about breaking the rules as you rise through the ranks. Here’s how to unlock Galactic Mode in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

Unlocking Galactic Mode in Mario Strikers Battle League

In order to unlock Galactic Mode, players will first need to clear every cup in Mario Strikers: Battle League. Listed below are all of the cups you can take on in the campaign:

  • Cannon Cup
  • Chain Cup
  • Turbo Cup
  • Muscle Cup
  • Trick Cup
  • Championship Cup

These modes will unlock as you slowly progress through the PvE content, and once you’ve cleared the Championship Cup, Galactic Mode will become available to you in the menus. While six cups might sound like a lot, it shouldn’t take you more than a week to blast through them if you’re playing consistently on a daily basis. Before you know it, you’ll be at the endgame of Battle League, taking on the hardest PvE content in the game.

What Is Galactic Mode?

Do be warned, however, that Galactic Mode is not for the faint of heart. This is essentially a hard mode for the Cup Battles game mode, which means that you can expect your opponents to be much more aggressive in trying to intercept the ball and scoring.

You’ll need to make sure that your passes are on point and that you’re aware of your opponents’ positions at all times.

Should You Go Down Mr Hackett’s Office Trap Door in The Quarry? (Spoilers)

1 year 10 months ago

Right towards the beginning of your time in The Quarry, Ryan and Dylan will be charging their phones in Chris Hackett’s office. While you’re waiting for them to charge up, you’ll be free to poke around the camp leader’s belongings, and upon doing so, you’ll find a creepy trap door in the floor. When you do, you’ll be given the option to go down it, or leave it. Here’s whether you should go down Mr. Hackett’s office trap door in The Quarry.

Before we proceed any further, it’s worth noting that as we’re discussing a decision you need to make, we are roaming into spoiler territory, as the consequence of this action only happens later on in the game. If you’d like to enjoy the game spoiler-free, we recommend you turn back now.

Should You Go Down the Trap Door in Mr. Hackett’s Office?

If you choose to go down when playing as Dylan towards the beginning of the game, he’ll go down, make a comment about it smelling weird and being dark and creepy, before heading back up. Nothing bad actually happens to Dylan, but as he’s climbing the ladder to get back out into Mr. Hackett’s office, he loosens one of the rungs of the ladder.

In our playthrough, this didn’t have any future consequences. While Abigail did climb up the ladder towards the end of the game when her and Emma are hiding out there, only a short cutscene played out where she managed to hang on.

The game allows you to work together to score goals, or compete against each other to see who can come out on top. Here’s how to play local co-op or versus multiplayer in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

  1. From the menu, choose the Quick Battle option.

  2. Choose whether you want to play on a single console or via local wireless.

Playing on a single console allows up to eight players to enter a match together, provided you have enough Joy-Cons and controllers. The local wireless option, on the other hand, only allows for two players per console, so choose according to how many Switches and players you have with you.

  3. Once you’ve made your selection, make sure everyone’s controllers are connected, then begin the match.

Mario Strikers Battle League: How To Leave or Resign From a Club

1 year 10 months ago

Forming or joining a club is a big decision in Mario Strikers: Battle League. Even if the club is just a casual one set up with friends, it still gets ranked along with everyone else. But if a change of scenery is needed or if owning a club just isn’t everything that it seemed like it would be, here’s everything you need to know about how to leave or resign from a club in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

How To Leave or Resign From a Club in Mario Strikers Battle League

Before leaving a club, there are a few things you should keep in mind. After leaving a club, it’s still possible to rejoin. Just remember that an owner will have to allow rejoining if the club isn’t public.

As for resigning as an owner, there’s no going back from that. If there’s more than one person in the club, then one of the members will become the new owner. But if the club only consists of the owner, then it’ll fold once they leave. There’s no coming back after that.

Now that you know the possible consequences of leaving or resigning, here’s how to do it.

1. First, go to the Strikers Club screen from the main menu.

Mario Strikers: Battle League sees the return of various iconic faces from the Mushroom Kingdom as they engage in not-so-friendly games of soccer. To make sure you’re well-equipped to deal with whatever challenges come your way, here’s how to do a lob pass in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

Doing a Lob Pass in Mario Strikers Battle League

The lob pass is one of the most basic moves you can pull off in Battle League, but it’s crucial for getting the ball around on the field. To perform a lob pass, all you have to do is press the Y button while the ball is in your possession.

By pressing Y, your character will then pass the ball over to the nearest teammate you’re facing, and allow them to continue dribbling. Do be careful, though, as the ball can still get intercepted in the middle of the pass, and you’ll want to make sure that you’re not passing to a teammate that’s being surrounded by the opposing team.

Passing the ball around is key to making your way to the goal post, so make sure to lob it to a teammate whenever you’re in trouble, or if you feel like you might be about to lose it.

That’s all you need to know about how to do a lob pass in Mario Strikers Battle League. Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game, and check out our official review as well.

Mario Strikers Battle League: Can You Control Boom Boom? Answered

1 year 10 months ago

Back in the day, Kritter from the Donkey Kong series used to be the keeper in Mario soccer games. This time around, the longtime Mario villain, Boom Boom, will try his hand at keeping balls from reaching the back of the net. Down below, we’ll answer the question: can you control Boom Boom in Mario Strikers: Battle League?

Can You Control Boom Boom in Mario Strikers Battle League

The simple answer to this question is essentially no. Nobody can cycle through the players on their team and choose to play the keeper position as Boom Boom. But of course, the full answer is a little bit more complicated than a simple no. It’s more like mostly no but sometimes yes.

When You Can’t Control Boom Boom

Most of the time while playing a match in Mario Strikers: Battle League, there’s no way to control Boom Boom. He’ll dive to make saves and run out to possess a loose ball if there’s nobody in the area.

When Boom Boom makes a save, you can run close to him and press the pass button (B) to make the keeper toss the ball towards the selected player. But this isn’t really considered controlling the keeper since they won’t pass the ball unless the player you’re controlling is close enough. If nobody is close enough, then Boom Boom will just clear the ball downfield.

When You Can Control Boom Boom

There is one situation where you can control Boom Boom in Mario Strikers: Battle League. When an opposing player gets off a Hyper Strike and it isn’t a perfect shot, Boom Boom will have the opportunity to make a save.

This quick time event requires player input for Boom Boom to stop the ball from going into the net. Unlike the pass, player input is required for Boom Boom to block the shot.

Mario Strikers Battle League: How to Dodge & Perfect Dodge

1 year 10 months ago

Speed will get you a long way in soccer, but you won’t get too far without having a touch of finesse. Being able to dodge oncoming tackles can make the difference between scoring a winning goal or getting knocked out of a tournament right away. Here’s everything you need to know about how to dodge and perfect dodge in Mario Strikers: Battle League.

It’s best to start out with the basics. Perfect dodges aren’t the most difficult maneuver to pull off, but there’s nothing wrong with learning the fundamentals first.

Dodging in Mario Strikers Battle League

This dodge (and the perfect one) can be used at any time while playing. Simply press the R button to dodge in the direction you’re holding the left stick. If you’re not holding any direction, then the player will either dodge sideways or forwards.

It’s important to remember to not spam the dodge button (R). Dodging three times in a row in close succession will tire out the character and make it impossible for them to dodge for a short time.
