Session: Skate Sim Release Date Confirmed For September

1 year 10 months ago

Nacon has announced that Session: Skate Sim will release in full on September 22, three years after it launched in early access.

Announced by developer Crea-ture Studios at Nacon Connect 2022, the full 1.0 version of Session will be available on Xbox and PlayStation consoles, as well as PC. The reveal came accompanied by a short new trailer, which showed off some of Session's authentic moves, locations, and how it's captured the skateboarding culture of the 1990s.

Session currently has a 'very positive' player review score on Steam, with users complimenting its authentic sense of control and calling it somewhat of a spiritual successor to EA's beloved Skate series.

Talking of Skate, EA is asking for playtesters for Skate 4, which is currently in development. Developer Full Circle is "still working on it", and so a dose of good new skateboarding action in the near future is only going to come from Session.

RoboCop FPS Shows Off Gameplay, Coming in June 2023

1 year 10 months ago

Upcoming FPS RoboCop: Rogue City has shown off its first gameplay and revealed lead character Alex Murphy, with the full likeness of original actor Peter Weller. The game is now scheduled to arrive in June 2023.

Shown off at today's Nacon Connect showcase, we got a look at the game's dystopian Detroit from the first-person perspective of RoboCop himself, amid what seems to be gang violence across the city. Combat appears to be a mix of gunplay and melee, with Murphy's targeting systems used to take out hard-to-hit enemies. We even see an ED-209 robot join the fray.

Aiming for release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S, RoboCop: Rogue City will "combine first-person shooter gameplay with exploration of Detroit and multiple-choice dialogue," according to Nacon. The game was first announced last year, and is based on the original 1987 movie – but will tell a brand new story in that setting. It's being developed by Teyon, which previously created Terminator: Resistance.

RoboCop is an action classic, and one of the best-ever '80s action movies, and a typically Paul Verhoeven mixture of ultraviolence and dystopian satire. There's currently a prequel series in development for TV, based on the series' depiction of Detroit and Omni Consumer Products, the company that goes onto create RoboCop himself.

Open-World Terminator Survival Game In Development at Nacon

1 year 10 months ago

Nacon has announced that it is developing a survival game set in the post-apocalyptic world of The Terminator.

Announced as part of the Nacon Connect 2022 showcase, the as-yet-untitled Terminator survival game was revealed to be in the works at Nacon Studio Milan. It takes place in an open world, and is set between the events of Judgment Day (the Skynet nuclear strike that causes the apocalypse) and the formation of John Connor's resistance.

The game will feature an original story that draws upon the events portrayed in the movies. No gameplay has yet to be revealed, but we've seen a cinematic trailer shows off a T-800 hunting someone in a warehouse-like enviroment. It's not much, but the drumming of the original theme tune can be heard in the background, so there's that at least.

The Terminator series doesn't have the best history when it comes to video games (or, arguably, movies post 1991). I remember being burned by the dreadful Terminator 3: War of the Machines back in 2003, and our Terminator: Resistance review from 2019 suggests things haven't improved over the years.

Hopefully Nacon Studio Milan's survival take on James Cameron's enduring apocalypse will be a bit of a turning point for the series' video game ventures.

Red Dead Online Won't Get Major Themed Update As More Resources Shifted To GTA 6

1 year 10 months ago

Red Dead Redemption 2 developer Rockstar won't bring any more major themed updates to Red Dead Online as it's instead using resources on the development of Grand Theft Auto 6.

That's not to say Red Dead Online will have its support cut completely though as Rockstar said it still plans to update the game with seasonal special events, build upon existing modes, and add new Telegram missions to maintain a healthy online environment.

"Over the past few years, we have been steadily moving more development resources towards the next entry in the Grand Theft Auto series - understanding more than ever the need to exceed players’ expectations and for this next entry to be the best it can possibly be - and as a result, we are in the process of making some changes to how we support Red Dead Online," Rockstar said.

Rockstar cites existing content such as Specialist Roles and story-based co-op missions, as well as new Telegram Missions coming to RDO this year as things players can look forward to. But ultimately resources are needed for Grand Theft Auto 6.

"We are truly grateful for all the constructive feedback we’ve received up to this point and hope you keep it coming. This direct feedback from players has been instrumental to the ongoing success of both GTA Online and Red Dead Online — and an integral element of what helps us continue to evolve and improve as we push ahead towards the future."

Sony Reveals Inscryption, Sea Of Stars, And Other Indies Heading To PlayStation

1 year 10 months ago

The PlayStation Twitter account posted a small batch of announcements highlighting upcoming indie games headed to PlayStation. While Cult of the Lamb's impending August 11 release was already confirmed, a few noteworthy reveals and updates should have indie fans on PlayStation excited for the near future and beyond. Here's a quick rundown of the games making their way to PS5 and PS4.

Inscryption

One of the best and most surprising games of 2021 makes its way to consoles for the first time. The PS5/PS4 version of the horror deck builder features exclusive features, such as the talking Stoat card's audio coming through the controller speaker, haptic feedback support, and atmospheric lighting that, accordion to creator Daniel Mullens, "spills out from your controller." We're not sure what that means, but Inscryption shouldn't be missed by those who couldn't play it on PC last year. Unfortunately, the PS port has no release window, but here's hoping it arrives later this year.

Top 10 Rarest SNES Games That Are Worth a Fortune

1 year 10 months ago

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) arrived in North America over 30 years ago in 1991, capturing the hearts of many gamers young and old. Nearly 50 million units were sold worldwide with roughly 23 million of those being in the western hemisphere.

There were 717 different games that were officially released for the SNES in North America. Pack-in games like Super Mario World are of course pretty common to find being sold in retro game stores and online since so many were produced. However, not every title was popular, and some games are a lot harder to find copies of for sale.

We’ve put together a list of ten of the rarest SNES games that cost a pretty penny to buy nowadays.

This list will focus exclusively on NTSC (North American) game prices; since PAL (European/Japanese) games had entirely different releases, it is difficult to compare. Additionally, the list is focused only on official retail releases; “not for resale” carts or exclusive competition carts are not included here.

All of the estimated prices are taken from the PriceCharting website and reflect the loose cart prices of recently sold listings. Box art images are courtesy of MobyGames.

What Is No Apex August? Apex Legends Strike Explained

1 year 10 months ago

Protesting a game isn’t always an easy task, it’s hard to organize any sort of response on a wide scale considering it all stays online. We’re here to give you more information on No Apex August and explain the possible Apex Legends Strike.

No Apex August Explained

As with a good portion of online games (not specifically battle royales) a portion of the Apex Legends player base is upset at the game’s current state.

It’s no secret Apex Legends has issues, from hits not registering to character abilities being glitchy, and even server errors.

A couple days ago, Reddit users started proposing No Apex August. As you can probably guess, the idea is to simply boycott Apex Legends for the entire month of August, lowering the player count and dropping the possible revenue gained from cosmetics.

Going purely off of Steam Charts, Apex Legends sees roughly 300k players a day on the service. While there’s nothing that reliably tracks players over the other platforms (PlayStation, Xbox, Switch, and mobile), it’s a safe bet that Apex Legends gets at least a peak of one million players daily. A month of hitting half of that or less would certainly be noticeable, and that’s the apparent goal.

Meta Quest Headsets No Longer Require a Facebook Account Starting Next Month

1 year 10 months ago

Meta announced today that it is launching a new account system for its line of virtual reality headsets.

The move follows a pledge the company made last year that it would require most users to log into its VR headsets using a Facebook account. But beginning in August, Meta accounts will roll out to new and existing Quest users.

As noted in the latest blog post, if you have used a Facebook account with your Quest headset or you merged your Oculus and Facebook accounts, you will be required to create a Meta account and Meta Horizon profile to use the headset moving forward.

However, Meta notes that users that have been logging into its VR headsets using just an Oculus account will be allowed to continue to do so until January 1st, 2023.

The Rally Point: Symphony Of War makes everyone on the battlefield feel important

1 year 10 months ago

The first unusual thing about Symphony Of War Colon The Nephilim Saga is that it's a strategy game made in RPG Maker. That's not particularly unusual, but it leads into the second unusual thing: that it's also a good strategy game. The third unusual thing is one I didn't even appreciate until I was a fair bit in: it's not only a good strategy game "for an RPG Maker game", but one of the best games I've played this year.

Inscryption Announced for PlayStation Consoles

1 year 10 months ago

The previous PC-exclusive “inky black card-based odyssey” Inscryption will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 some time in the future. Inscryption released back in October 2021.

For those who might not be aware of exactly what Inscryption is, there is a an announcement trailer for this news. However, it certainly won’t give you the answers you are looking for.

You can watch the announcement trailer below, it’s the best kind of confusing.

The video’s description gives slightly more info, but is also just as vague as the trailer.

From the creator of Pony Island and The Hex comes the latest mind melting, self-destructing love letter to video games. Inscryption is an inky black card-based odyssey that blends the deckbuilding roguelike, escape-room style puzzles, and psychological horror into a blood-laced smoothie. Darker still are the secrets inscrybed upon the cards…

anya spy x family plush

Taito will release a big plush of Anya Forger from Spy x Family from July 8, 2022. There will be two versions – one with a normal smile and one with a more mischievous one. It will be around 30 centimeters tall, and she is wearing her school uniform. These plushes are prize ones, which means you will have to get them from a claw machine. [Thanks, Hobby Watch!]

Most stores around Japan will have the Anya Forger plush available for people to try and grab. Those who play the online version of Taito’s claw machine will also have the chance to get it. Anya’s mischievous expression is a signature look for her, and many pieces of merchandise use it for her. For example, it is one of the looks that the Anya Tamagotchi can make.

Spy x Family is available on Crunchyroll, and aired during the Spring 2022 anime season. It follows the story of Loid Forger and his fake family, which he assembled in order to complete a mission for the safety of his country. Anya, his fake daughter, is a mind reader who knows that Loid is a spy and fake wife Yor is actually an assassin. The show is a critical success and the second season will start airing in October 2022.

The Anya Forger plush will come out in Taito claw machines from July 8, 2022.

Inscryption, the Creepy Deckbuilding Hit, Is Coming to PlayStation

1 year 10 months ago

Daniel Mullins, creator of Inscryption, has announced that his creepy deckbuilding roguelite that featured on many game of the year lists last year is coming to PlayStation.

Announced on the PlaySation Blog as part of today’s PlayStation Indies reveals, Mullins explained that the PS version of the game will make use of the RGB lights and speaker on the controller. Stoat, the game’s talking card, will have its audio played out of the controller, and the atmospheric lighting of the cabin Inscryption is set in will be reflected by the light of the DualShock/DualSense.

“If you’re playing in the dark you’ll be one step closer to feeling like you’re inside Leshy’s cabin,” Mullins said of the lighting.

Otherwise, Inscryption on PlayStation is identical to the PC version. It’s part card game, party escape room, part horror. Starting out as a creepy roguelite card battler, the story soon twists its own rules as you gradually get closer to the truth.

Publisher Devolver will release the game on both PS4 and PS5, although no release date has yet to be announced. It’s worth holding on for that announcement though, and our 9/10 Inscryption review explains exactly why you should be interested. Unsurprisingly, we awarded it our best strategy game of 2021 award.

PlayStation Indies: All the Announcements From Today’s Updates

1 year 10 months ago

Sony has held another PlayStation Indies day over on the PlayStation Blog, revealing seven new updates for a variety of indie games headed to PS4 and PS5 over the next few months. Curious as to what smaller games are ones to watch out for? Here’s all seven of today’s reveals, all in one place.

Sea of Stars Coming to PS4 and PS5

First up, retro-inspired RPG Sea of Stars has been confirmed for release on PS4 and PS5. Alongside that confirmation, developer Sabotage Studio also offered a closer look at Sea of Stars’ turn-based battle system. Despite its obvious JRPG inspirations, Sea of Stars does not have random encounter battles, and is a ‘pure’ turn-based system, with no time bars. MP regens though fights to allow for regular magic casting, and enemy special abilities can be weakened or even eliminated entirely by breaking ‘locks’ with specific damage types. Party members can also attack together for combos, and characters can be hot swapped in and out of battle to rearrange your team for maximum efficiency.

Schim Will Release on PlayStation Consoles

Developer Extra Nice has announced that its recently-revealed game about a traveling shadow, Schim, will be released on PS4 and PS5. Playing as the shadow creature Schim, you’ll need to explore different Dutch-inspired locations as part of a hunt to find the human whose shadow you live in. Each location is a puzzle, as Schim can only move to other shadows, and so must carefully move from dark spot to dark spot across a map.
