How to Get Name Tags in Minecraft

1 year 9 months ago

Welcome to another guide as we help you figure out some of the more vague items in Minecraft. There is an item that will let you name creatures like you would a pet. Here’s how to get Name Tags in Minecraft.

Finding Name Tags in Minecraft

If you’re trying to find these naturally, we are sorry to say that Name Tags cannot be crafted from a recipe or found in the wild without some RNG. Thankfully, there are a few different ways you can get your hands on them.

Fishing

Name Tags are among the treasure loot pool that can be found through fishing. While this definitely a fight against the RNG, it’s something you can just keep doing as long as you have a rod. Finding treasure through fishing is about a 5% chance per cast.

Chest Looting

This one is probably the most lucrative in general if you are the explorer type, but Name Tags have a chance to come out of looted chests. These statistics are off of the wiki and tell the chances to find a Name Tag depending on the location the chest was found:

  • Dungeon – 28.3%
  • Mineshaft – 42.3%
  • Ancient City – 16.1%
  • Buried Treasure – 34.3%
  • Woodland Mansion – 29.7%

Buying From Villagers

This is probably the worst chance of all, considering the large pool of possible items that villagers could sell you. However, it’s still a way to get a Name Tag.

SWTOR Shadow Syndicate Vendor Location

1 year 9 months ago

Despite SWTOR being a lovingly crafted Star Wars experience—and is arguably one of the best examples of it—the game occasionally explains certain mechanics rather poorly. For example, farming Shadow Syndicate reputation is very straightforward. But where in the world is the SWTOR Shadow Syndicate vendor?

Technically speaking, you were the Shadow Syndicate vendor all along.

How to Find the Shadow Syndicate Vendor Location in SWTOR

SWTOR has players running around thinking there must be a Shadow Syndicate vendor somewhere, right? Well, no. Instead, the Shadow Syndicate vendor is tied to the Galactic Seasons. It’s a separate tab from the Login Rewards you can earn.

To check out your progress for the current Galactic Season:

  1. Hover your mouse over the Character Icon.
  2. In the drop-down menu, choose Login & Season Rewards.
  3. From the two tabs available, select Galactic Seasons.

This is where the confusion is caused. If there isn’t a vendor for the Shadow Syndicate, then why bother with reputation? The Galactic Season is essentially a battle pass, something you’d see in Apex Legends. By earning levels for the Galactic Season, you can claim rewards along the way, such as cosmetic items, mounts, and even titles.

And many of the tasks you have to complete are related to earning reputation with the Shadow Syndicate. It’s a kind of symbiotic relationship.

The Oregon Trail Game Gets Apple Watch Integration

1 year 9 months ago

The Oregon Trail was released on Apple Arcade in 2021, and it's getting a sister app on the Apple Watch called The Oregon Trail: Steptracker. It will compare your daily steps to the daily steps taken by voyagers on The Oregon Trail--in essence, a fancy way of counting your steps, with some additional features thrown in.

Users will be able to see The Oregon Trail's changing landscapes, different towns, and statistical summaries. According to The Oregon Trail developer Gameloft, if you walked 10,000 steps per day, it'd take you over a year to complete the journey.

The mobile version of The Oregon Trail is pretty faithful to the original game, though Gameloft did hire consultants to better depict the Native American experience and perspective. You can build your party from 10 different classes, deal with random events, and take care of your caravan--else dysentery will take your group before the end of the journey.

Apple Arcade is a game subscription service for Apple devices that costs $5 per month. Classic mobile titles like Temple Run and Angry Birds (Reloaded) headline the offerings, along with sport games like NBA 2K22 Arcade Edition. There's a one-month free trial for any users who'd like to test the service out before committing.

Live A Live Hands-On Preview – Stories Through Time

1 year 9 months ago

It’s no secret that Square dominated the 1990s when it game to JRPGs. So many beloved classics from that decade were born at the hands of their creative direction: Final Fantasy III, Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana, Super Mario RPG—the list goes on and on.

A lesser-known JRPG to add to this list of the finest games of the 90s is Live A Live, and the reason why it probably hasn’t been heralded alongside these other greats is because it never left Japan to be officially localized in the west.

As a fan of Square’s early masterpieces, I was surprised that I had never even heard of Live A Live before this year’s remake of the 1994 game was announced. After spending some time with the revival, I feel as though Square Enix is treating us to what is essentially a brand new experience for the western audience while capturing the same magic of those 90s JRPGs we hold close to our hearts.

Live A Live is quite unlike any game I’ve played before. Instead of one cohesive storyline with a single playable protagonist and recruitable party members, the game is sectioned off into distinct scenarios that can be played in any order. Each scenario features a different protagonist in various eras and locations throughout time: Prehistory, Imperial China, Edo Japan, Wild West, Present Day, Near Future, and the Distant Future.

In Metal: Hellsinger, Death Is Your Instrument

1 year 9 months ago

First-person shooter combat can often be said to have a sort of "rhythm," with the explosive bassy blasts of rounds leaving firearms and the weighty ka-chunk of reloading adding its own percussion to action movie-like experiences. Metal: Hellsinger makes that idea its central tenet, specifically building a fast-paced arena shooter around rhythm game sensibilities. But while it might seem like shooters naturally lend themselves to a rhythm game concept, making Metal: Hellsinger work as one, while ensuring it's still a satisfying shooter, meant that developer The Outsiders had to allow the music to permeate every facet of the game's design.

Just ahead of Summer Game Fest, The Outsiders released a free demo for Metal: Hellsinger on Steam that offers a look at one level of the game, as well as a boss fight. Playing as a demon called The Unknown, you shoot your way through the hordes of hell with a variety of weapons; the demo includes a shotgun and a pair of revolvers, as well as a sword and a flaming skull that spits fireballs. The better you keep the beat with your attacks, the higher your score multiplier rises; with it, the music playing in the game's level becomes fuller and more intense, and even the environment reacts to your slayage. Maintaining the beat keeps your multiplier up, while certain actions, such as reloading, reward you for your syncopation by getting you back to the battle faster. And at least one action, a brutal execution move that rewards you with a spray of health items, can only be performed if you activate it on-beat.

NBA 2K23 On PC Is Still the Previous-Gen Version

1 year 9 months ago

In recent years, players have been asking for the next generation upgrades from the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S versions of NBA 2K to be added to PC as well.

Despite these requests, however, it looks like NBA 2K23's PC version will still be based on the previous-gen console version.

According to an answer in the FAQs section of the 2K Games website, the PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the next NBA 2K game won't receive the graphical and technical upgrades that the game's next-gen console versions will have.

"This is something the team is passionate about and will continue to investigate what is possible for the franchise in the future," the answer reads. "For now, the focus was on assuring NBA 2K23 was optimized for the new consoles (PlayStation®5, Xbox Series X|S), while also making sure the experience remains fresh and innovative for players on other platforms."

This will be a disappointment to PC fans of the NBA 2K series, as the developers continue to prioritize the console experience.

NBA 2K is a long-running basketball sim. While little else is known about the upcoming addition to the 2K series, 2K Games recently announced that Michael Jordan will be on the cover of the appropriately named Michael Jordan Edition and the limited Championship Edition.

Killing Floor 2 is free to keep on the Epic Games Store (again)

Head on over to the Epic Games Store this week and you'll find two free games and a feeling of deja vu. The games are Ancient Enemy and Killing Floor 2, and it's the latter that triggered the memory trip for me - because it was also free on Epic this week two years ago. But hey, if you missed it, the zombie shooter still one of the best co-op games, so grab it while you can.

Disgaea 6 Complete on PS4 Still Feels Like a Handheld Game

1 year 9 months ago

disgaea 6 header

About a year after its original release on the Nintendo Switch, the localized version of Disgaea 6 Complete is now on the PS4, PS5, and Windows PC worldwide. I had the opportunity to play the PS4 version and, while this is almost everywhere now, it still feels like a handheld game.

disgaea 6 graphics

The first thing I noticed about Disgaea 6 on the PS4 was that it felt very much like a Switch game. The 3D effect looked rather rough. Also, something about the font made it look quite retro. This combination made the game look a lot older than one released in 2021. At first, I actually thought that it was from the Nintendo 3DS! The 3D animations in combat when you use special attacks are rather lackluster when compared with other native Switch games that came out around the same time.

Madison Concrete Block Puzzle Guide

1 year 9 months ago

Wow, your father had some colorful decor in his childhood room. When you finally unlock the door to your dad, John’s, room in Madison, you find it primed for puzzles. That's definitely not something unusual for the horror puzzler, but nor is it the most wholesome family environment. The puzzle here is deceptively simple, but there are some things you need to prepare and some small facets you might overlook. If you’re stumped, we’ve got you covered. Here's how to solve the Madison concrete block puzzle in John's room.

Note: Madison features changing puzzles for different playthroughs, so the specifics of solving this puzzle may change, but the method will be the same.

Finding The Weights

First, in order to enter dad’s room, you’re going to need the key. It’s found in the red safe in your grandfather’s office. You’re given the combination to it after solving the clock puzzle, but it takes a little interpretation itself. It seems self-explanatory, as you’re given directional arrows with notches in them, but only the notches colored red count, and that includes the arrow at the end. The combination is seven left, four right, and three left.

The puzzle in dad’s room features a series of weights that need to be placed on their proper hook. Two of the weights are already in the room; the biggest is hanging on a hook, while the second-largest is sitting on the floor. The other two are out in the wilds of the house, but there’s a good chance you’ve found them already.

NBA 2K23 For PC, Switch Is Not The Current-Gen Version

1 year 9 months ago

NBA 2K23 is coming this September, but once again, Nintendo Switch and PC players are not getting the most up-to-date version of the professional basketball game.

A FAQ posted on the NBA 2K site said the studio is "passionate about" bringing a bonafide current-gen version of NBA 2K to Switch and PC. However, it's not happening this year. But 2K said it will "continue to investigate what is possible for the franchise in the future."

"For now, the focus was on assuring NBA 2K23 was optimized for the new consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S), while also making sure the experience remains fresh and innovative for players on other platforms," 2K said.

NBA 2K23 features Devin Booker on its main cover, with Michael Jordan getting his own cover as well. There is a GameStop-exclusive WNBA Edition of the game, too, featuring Diana Taurasi and Sue Bird on the cover.

2K has yet to reveal any gameplay footage or reveal much about what to expect in terms of upgrades and updates from last year's game. We do know, however, that Jordan Challenges are coming back this year.

All Gods in Thor: Love and Thunder Explained

1 year 9 months ago

Thor: Love and Thunder has the God of Thunder go up against the God Butcher. So, with all the talk of gods, there must be more gods for our heroes and villains to meet.

***Major spoilers for Thor: Love and Thunder follow, so if you haven’t checked the latest MCU entry out, expect to be spoiled.***

All Gods in Thor: Love and Thunder Explained

Thor: Love and Thunder not only looks at gods from the Norse Realm, as the Thor movies have previously focused on, but now the MCU is bringing a focus on gods from other mythologies, Greek being the notable one here.

Before going into exact details of the gods, I think it’s important to briefly go over how gods and the mythologies and religion that revolve around them works in the MCU. As the franchise brings in more and more cultures, such as in Black Panther, Moon Knight, and Ms. Marvel, we are getting a better understanding as the MCU tries to piece in the different beliefs from all these cultures.

First of all, all religion is seemingly based on fact in the MCU. People come across different powerful otherworldly beings, and thus texts are written, which results in the worship of these beings.

Then comes the way that the afterlife works in the MCU. As far as we have been told thus far, afterlives, whether it be the Ancestral Plane, the Duat, or Valhalla, are all in the same dimension. What type of afterlife a person will interact with depends on the culture and beliefs that a person comes from, along with the people that that person interacts with.

With this all being said, now let’s take a look at the gods of Thor: Love and Thunder.

Resident Evil Village Getting Massive $1500 Lady Dimitrescu Statue

1 year 9 months ago

If you’re among the many fans of Resident Evil Village‘s super-tall villainess Lady Dimitrescu figure manufacturer PureArts and Capcom have a treat in store for you.

A new statue portraying Lady Dimitrescu in all her majesty has been made available for pre-order today.

The state is massive due to her 1/4 scale, which means she is nearly three feet tall. To be precise, she stands at 35 inches or 89 cm depending on your measuring system of choice.

While we shouldn’t question a lady’s weight, for the sake of the resilience of your favorite cabinet, you may want to know that she weighs a whopping 13 pounds (6kg).

Depending on how menacing you want her to be, you can display her with her cigarette holder or her extended claws.

She comes with a custom-tailored dress, synthetic hair, a removable hat, and a classy base in faux wood and marble.

The price is certainly as impressive as the statue itself, as the standard edition (limited to 666 units) will cost you $1,500. On the manufacturer’s own store you can get one of the 100 units of the “Exclusive Edition” which includes a replica of the key to Castle Dimitrescu.

Below you can check out a trailer, a bunch of screenshots, and a summary of what you’ll be getting should you decide to add Lady Dimitrescu to your figure collection.

My LiveJournal turned 18 this week, and man alive, baby Katharine had some terrible video game opinions

1 year 9 months ago

Earlier this week, I had a real blast from the past moment. Apparently, my ancient LiveJournal turned 18 on Tuesday, a thing I haven't posted in or given a single thought to for at least ten years. Naturally, curiosity got the better of me, so I dipped my toe back in to see what teenage Katharine had been blogging about in the mid to late 00s. Aside from all my custom images having been eaten, probably with the closure of whatever photo upload service I used back in the day, everything else was pretty much in tact.

But man alive. Those OPINIONS. Just terrible. Bad, awful, narrow-minded. In some ways it's quite funny looking back at how angry I was about Nintendo putting trains in a Zelda game, for example (joke's on me, Spirit Tracks would go on to become one of my fav Zelda games of all time), but in many ways I'm just quite glad I've (hopefully) moved on as a person, if only because recent weeks have reminded me there are still plenty of people out there like late 00s Katharine who are in all likelihood the same age I am now. Yes, I'm talking about the backlash to Return Of Monkey Island.

Lost Nova is the low intensity gathering game you might need

1 year 9 months ago

I thought I wanted a gardening game. The few I tried were fussy, though, and too much like the kind of cold scientific procedure that turns growing things into industry. With Lost Nova on my back burner I shrugged, and gave that a go, having frankly forgotten what it was.

It's a gathering game, so almost the reverse of gardening, or perhaps the end point of it. But its relaxed pace, warm tone, and fun dialogue were, it turns out, exactly what I needed. There's no pressure, and not too much to worry about. You can just wander about enjoying the vibe and digging things up with your gentle laser as you go.

Developers Shed Light on FFVII Remake Chapter 4 Adventure

1 year 9 months ago

FFVII Remake Chapter 4

The Square Enix blog is continuing its series of retrospectives on the development of Final Fantasy VII Remake. The latest installment covers FFVII Remake Chapter 4. While FFVII Remake is in large part a retelling of the original FFVII, it takes extra time to expand on Cloud and the party's adventure in Midgar. As a result, the game does feature a significant amount of new content that expands on moments in the first iteration of the story.

The blog delivers insights and comments on the chapter's development from Scenario Design Co-Director Motomu Toriyama, Game Design Co-Director Naoki Hamaguchi, Facial Directo Akira Iwasawa, Music Superviso Keiji Kawamori, Sound Director Makoto Ise, Battle Director Teruki Endo, and Senior Assistant Producer Yuma Watanabe.

Note: The blog entry contains spoilers for Chapter 4 of Final Fantasy VII Remake.

FFVII Remake Chapter 4 is titled "Mad Dash" and is notably all-original to Final Fantasy VII's story. It takes place the night before Avalanche is to destroy Shinra Mako Reactor 5. While Tifa and Barrett rest Cloud is approached by Jessie, who proposes a secret midnight outing to Jessie's parents' house in Midgar proper. Tagging along are Biggs and Wedge. The party gets into a running battle with Shinra's bike soldiers, as well as with Roche, a SOLDIER member.

What Is the Name of the First God Gorr Kills in Thor: Love and Thunder

1 year 9 months ago

Want to know what the name of the first god Gorr kills in Thor: Love and Thunder is? Well, considering he’s a god, you think that wouldn’t be too hard of a task. However, it seems to be lesser known knowledge. Luckily, we’ve got their name and everything you need to know about them right here.

What God Does Gorr Worship in Thor: Love and Thunder?

The name of the god that Gorr worships in Thor: Love and Thunder is Rapu, played by actor Jonny Brugh. The two characters meet at the start of the film after the God Butcher stumbles upon an oasis in the middle of the desert.

Gorr asks Rapu why his god had abandoned his people. The god then replies that he doesn’t care about humans, and that there will always be more to come along and worship him.

Gorr insults Rapu, which angers the god, who then picks the human up by the throat, intending to squeeze the life out of him. Before he can, the Necrosword chooses Gorr, corrupting him and letting him stab the god right in the throat.

According to Zeus, Rapu is a lower-level god of little consequence, so the fact that he was egotistical and arrogant makes sense. Outside of that, there isn’t really much known about the God, as he doesn’t seem to be a character in the comics, meaning he was likely just made up for this movie.

Like that smiling face with a tear running down one cheek emoji, I've watched friends discuss the trials and tribulations of a great Tigrex hunt and watched YouTube videos breaking down all the cool things you can do with the Insect Glaive.

So, with Monster Hunter Rise netting itself a bestest best badge and its Sunbreak expansion getting some serious praise in our review, I thought it was time to pull up my regular socks in the hopes that I could replace them with a pair woven from a big lizard's gooch. And I think I'm enjoying it? I think those socks could be mine? I just need to stop my brain from short-circuiting first.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake: Leviathan Summon Was Included as a Reference to the Original Game's Demo

1 year 9 months ago

The Leviathan summon in Final Fantasy 7 Remake was included specifically as a reference to the original game's demo.

In a Square Enix blog post, Remake's co-director Naoki Hamaguchi explained the logic behind why each specific summon made an appearance in the game.

"At an early stage of development we looked over the line-up of summons in the original FFVII and decided to go with Ifrit, Chocobo and Moogle, Shiva, Fat Chocobo, Leviathan and Bahamut, for a roster of six," Hamaguchi said. "The reason Leviathan was included is because he was featured in the original FFVII demo, so I personally wanted him in the first Remake too."

Hamaguchi went on to explain that the developers had to be pretty certain before development began which summons they were going to include, as it takes a lot of work to even create one.

"It costs a lot of development resources to create a summon, so there weren't any that we planned for but discarded. We strived to be as accurate as possible in the planning and then stuck to that plan until the final version," he said.

All Tattoos on Thor’s Back in Thor: Love and Thunder

During the scene where Thor asks Zeus for aid, he is tied up with golden ropes and stripped of his clothes. When this happens we briefly see his back, which has a number of new and interesting tattoos.

While some of them are just general ones, like a broken heart and a rose – with the second one possibly being for Hemsworth’s real-life daughter, India Rose Hemsworth, who actually plays Gorr’s daughter in the film.
