Heroes of the Storm development winds down

1 year 9 months ago

Blizzard is celebrating the recent seventh anniversary of its MOBA Heroes of the Storm by trimming development in order to focus only "on client sustainability and bug fixing".

In a brief update posted yesterday on the official website, Blizzard said it would now treat the MOBA in a "manner similar to our other longstanding games, StarCraft and StarCraft II" by continuing seasonal rolls and hero rotations, but with no plans for new "for-purchase content to be added".

As a thank you to all who've stuck with the game, Blizzard is offering the "incredibly rare" Epic Arcane Lizard mount to all players with next week’s patch.

Genshin Impact Sumeru Trailer Shows Off Dendro Element

1 year 9 months ago

genshin impact sumeru

HoYoVerse released a short trailer for the upcoming Sumeru region and Dendro element in Genshin Impact. Sumeru will be part of Version 3.0, which will go live after the next update, Version 2.8. While Dendro is an existing element in the game, Sumeru will be the first time players will be able to use it. As well, Dendro will react with elements other than Pyro.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DjVUfy_Lng

The Sumeru trailer features the Genshin Impact development team discussing how it implemented and chose to design Dendro in the game. According to the trailer, the concepts ‘catalysis, wisdom, and life’ were key in how the team designed the elemental reactions, level designs, and environmental puzzles. An example of a Sumeru environmental mechanic seems to be a mushroom that the Traveler can jump on like a trampoline.

Version 3.0 will introduce the Bloom and Catalyze reactions. Bloom is Hydro and Dendro, while Catalyze is Electro and Dendro. The video does not explain what the reactions do. However, it does mention that you will be able to use elements to alter states of Dendro objects and monsters. Depending on the state, Dendro monsters will have different attacks, as well as drop different items.

Genshin Impact is readily available on PS4, PS5, Windows PC, and mobile devices. A Nintendo Switch version is in the work. Version 2.8 will launch on July 13, 2022, with Sumeru appearing in Genshin Impact 3.0. There is no confirmed release date as of yet for Version 3.0.

FGO Summer 2022

The English edition of Fate/Grand Order will soon host its annual summer event, and this year's theme is a summer camp. The FGO Summer 2022 event is formally titled "Servant Summer Camp ~Chaldea's Thriller Night~".

Players will investigate a new singularity located in Japan. But it's not beach hijinks, this time. Instead, the Masters of Chaldea and their Servants will retreat to an idyllic lakeside cabin resort. Of course, there's more to the FGO Summer 2022 event than meets the eye. For with mountain vacationing comes the prospect of ghost stories.

Check out a trailer for the event below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AaD6Nkt62As

Key to the FGO Summer 2022 event is Yu Mei-ren, star of Lostbelt No. 3. She's this year's free event Servant. She'll join the roster as a 4-Star Lancer-class character. As a former Chaldea master herself and the players' "Senpai", she'll assist during the event story. As for the event itself, it'll use a day-night cycle in its quest structure. Consequently, certain quests will be limited to certain times of the day, which is advanced alongside progress. Finally, objective-based missions can also be accomplished to further quest progress and unlock rewards.

Made In Abyss Binary Star System Trailer Shows Us the Ropes

1 year 9 months ago

Made in Abyss Binary Star

With the approach of Made in Abyss: Binary Star Falling into Darkness' English release date, Spike Chunsoft is revealing in more detail what the game's actually about. A new system trailer for Made in Abyss Binary Star debuted on the Spike Chunsoft official channel on July 7, 2022.

Check it out below.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PTCae4rAfo

The Made in Abyss Binary Star system trailer lays out the game's structure in more detail. In particular, its two playable narrative modes are explained. "Hello Abyss" mode follows the plot of the anime, and stars Riko. Meanwhile "Deep in Abyss" mode stars a player-created character. Their name is "Aki", though players can customize this novice "Bell" Cave Raider. Deep in Abyss follows an original story written by Made in Abyss creator Akihito Tsukushi. It'll involve known characters from the series, though.

The trailer also laid out how players will progress the story in Made in Abyss Binary Star Falling into Darkness. First, they'll complete quests, which involve exploring the Abyss. Jiruo and the Cave Raider Guild issue most quests.

In keeping with the themes of the series, the Abyss is a dark, dangerous place. Even with adequate supplies, players will suffer from the Curse of the Abyss as they return to base. The curse intensifies the further they descend, and symptoms include vomiting, statistical penalties or bleeding from their orifices. This renders them vulnerable to environmental hazards and monster attacks.

Lord Dunsany's chess variant is grim and kind of brilliant

1 year 9 months ago

I first read about Lord Dunsany - I am happy to report his full name was Edward John Moreton Drax Plunkett - in a collection of Arthur C. Clarke's non-fiction. In an early essay, Clarke describes going to see Dunsany, a beloved fantasy and science fiction author, when Clarke was young and Dunsany, who was born in 1878, was already getting on a bit. There is a moment in this essay that has stuck with me.

Clarke is getting one of his books signed. "I took with me a copy of his fantasy The Charwoman's Shadow...which he duly autographed with a sweeping DUNSANY running right across the page; it was the only time I ever saw anyone use a quill pen and then sprinkle the result with fine sand to dry the ink." That is wonderful, but re-reading the piece this morning I am delighted to see that Dunsany also corrected a mistake in the text. "'The Country Towards Moon's Rising' was transformed into 'The Country Beyond Moon's Rising.'"

I tried to get into Dunsany shortly after reading that. His books were hard to come by at the time and the only printings I could find were cheap and unpleasant - if Dunsany had tried to sign these, his autograph would have bled through from the first page to the last. But also this: Dunsany is a writer of serious whimsy - more on this in a bit - and serious whimsy is something you have to be in a certain mood to enjoy.

Logan Paul’s Most Expensive Pokemon Card Is Getting Turned Into an NFT

1 year 9 months ago

If you didn’t already know, YouTuber and new professional wrestler Logan Paul had bought himself the world’s most expensive Pokemon card in the form of the extremely rare Pikachu Illustrator. Based on the PSA authentication and grading company’s rating, it stands at the highest rating of 10, which is also why it cost the YouTuber an eyewatering $5,275,000. Now, in a move that will make even more waves, Paul is turning that precious card into a non-fungible token (NFT).

According to Paul’s latest video, the Pikachu Illustrator card will be minted and listed as an NFT on Liquid Marketplace on July 9 at 3 p.m. EST. If you are planning to purchase the NFT, it will cost a cool $5 million, or 50 million tokens that are going for $0.10 each, which is still cheap compared to The Merge NFT which was sold for $91.8 million. Even then, Paul will retain 49% minority ownership of the card, with it being stored in a yet-to-be-decided community vault.

Depending on the leanings of the majority NFT holders, Paul technically can still do whatever he wants with the physical card.

The Liquid Marketplace platform is also coincidentally co-founded by the YouTuber, with no readily available information about its functionality and uses. However, it does have a mission to “offer collectors the opportunity to co-own physical and digital assets through the power of tokenization,” so make of that what you will.

Genshin Impact Gets New Trailer Teasing Version 3.0, New Sumeru Area, & the Dendro Element

1 year 9 months ago

Today Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse released a new trailer focusing on the upcoming version 3.0 of the popular online RPG.

The trailer is particularly juicy as it showcases the new Sumeru region that will come with 3.0 (and that was teased just a few days ago with another video) and a brand new element that will be introduced in the gameplay, Dendro.

It appears that Dendro comes with some interesting gimmicks, and in Sumeru, we’ll also find some new gameplay elements like elements of the environment or even monsters that will react differently to different elements.

The video is labeled “Sumeru Preview Teaser 01” which seems to indicate that more will be coming in the future, introducing more elements that we can expect in the new area.

You can see what awaits us in the future of Genshin Impact below.

Microsoft Flight Simulator M-346 Master, Harrier, Tornado, PMDG Boeing 737-600, & More Get Development Updates; Palmaseca Airport & Paris Heliports Released

1 year 9 months ago

The third-party industry bound to Microsoft Flight Simulator never stops, and developers shared news about upcoming and released add-ons today.

We start with IndiaFoxtEcho, which provided news about its Aermacchi M-346 Master, Tornado, TA-4J and (possibly) A-4 Skyhawk, and Aermacchi MB-326, on top of their stance on Xbox support.

The developers also teased “a couple of surprises” which should make their fans happy.

EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON
See separate post from few days ago

TORNADO
We were not happy on the level of detail of the models we have used for the images we have previously posted… so we are remodelling most of the aircraft with a much better level of detail.

TA-4J SKYHAWK
We have finished reworking the nose section, so that it is now much closer to the real deal. We will completely remodel the cockpit (as opposed to using our P3D geometry). Looking good but will take a while to complete.

A-4 SKYHAWK (NOT CONFIRMED)
We are, of course, evaluating to port over our single seater Skyhawks… but again, we will have to remodel many parts to achieve a good level of detail, so at the moment the project is not green lighted yet.

AERMACCHI MB-326
We have not stopped working on this… but it has lower priority than other projects.
All of the projects above are “done when they will be done”. No rush, no cash-cowing. We will try our best to make decent products we’ll take the time we need.

Iron Banter: This Week In Destiny 2 - Season Of The Haunted Story Review

1 year 9 months ago

Just about every week brings something new to Destiny 2, whether it's story beats, new activities, or interesting new combinations of elements that let players devastate each other in the Crucible. Iron Banter is our weekly look at what's going on in the world of Destiny and a rundown of what's drawing our attention across the solar system.

After weeks of plumbing the secrets of the Leviathan for answers about Calus' intentions, we've reached the end of Season of the Haunted's story. The season has spent a lot of time building and exploring the personalities and traumas of characters we've been dealing with in the game for some time--in a few cases, for years--while also giving us something of a direction for where Destiny 2's story is headed in the future.

As far as seasonal storytelling goes, I'd log Season of the Haunted as one of Destiny 2's stronger outings. Though it was a bit shorter than some of the more recent episodic stories, it used its time to hit a lot of emotional beats while also expanding on the greater world in a lot of important ways. We've learned a shocking amount of backstory from Season of the Haunted, while seeing a ton of character development--not only in members of the main cast and current villain Calus, but also in Destiny characters who've long since passed on.

Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak - How To Beat Espinas

1 year 9 months ago

Figuring out how to beat Espinas in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak can be challenging, especially since most players won't be familiar with it. Though it's technically a returning monster, the only game it's been in before was the Japan-exclusive Monster Hunter Frontier. So for everyone outside that country, facing it is an entirely new experience. If you’re having difficulty figuring out how best to approach Espinas, we’ve given a rundown of everything you need to know to tackle what can be a difficult hunt, from your prey’s weaknesses and strengths to the best strategies to take it down.

What is Espinas in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak?

Espinas is a Flying Wyvern monster in Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak. You'll first find it during the Urgent Hunting Hub Quest named "A Slumbering Jungle Espinas." Espinas is resistant to Thunder and completely immune to Fire. It's not without its weaknesses, though. You'll be able to fell it using Blast- and Ice-type moves. You'll have to watch out for its tendency to use Fireblight, however.

This is the first appearance Espinas has made in the main Monster Hunter series, aside from Monster Hunter Frontier, where it was originally introduced. It also made appearances in Monster Hunter Online as well as the crossover title Teppen. This is the first time most players will have had a chance to get up close and personal with the monster.

The Mobius team is tasked with finding Sirius and can use their abilities to knock out the opposing team.

Although the Mobius players are outnumbered, they'll have unique traits and abilities that give them advantages when working together. Blanc Is an Empathetic Co-op Adventure Story Told Without a Single Word

1 year 9 months ago

If any It Takes Two fans didn’t watch the recent Nintendo Direct Mini late last month, then they may have slept on the wrong presentation. Tucked cozily into the show was Blanc, a visually striking story about a lost fawn and wolf cub that is, gloriously, a rare cooperative adventure.

Games that focus on couch or online co-op (Blanc has both) as a key gameplay element rather than just an optional addendum to an otherwise single-player experience are scarce despite the popularity of It Takes Two and its Hazelight predecessors, Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons and A Way Out.

So it’s perhaps understandable that Blanc didn’t originate from a known games studio or even from a studio committed explicitly to making games at all. Instead, it’s the work of French agency Casus Ludi, a small company that explicitly designs interactive experiences, including interactive documentaries, board games, and other types of media.

Prior to Blanc, Casus Ludi had never made a large video game before, though several of its members had worked on small games. Its CEO, Florent de Grissac, had been a part of organizing multiple game jams in France when he was invited to participate in a 2018 jam in Québec City. De Grissac assembled a team of six, which included designer Rémi Gourrierec and artist Raphaël Beuchot, and headed to Québec City only to find themselves making a game while a massive snow storm raged outside.

The theme of the game jam? Perfect storm.

Marvel Future Revolution Players Must Rescue Thor For Its New Love And Thunder Content

1 year 9 months ago

Netmarble has launched a new update for their RPG mobile game Marvel Future Revolution, inspired by the newly released Marvel Studios movie Thor: Love and Thunder. Players will be able to participate in a new Epic Invasion called The God Butcher and recruit Mighty Thor as a companion.

For the Epic Invasion: The God Butcher, players will partner up with Thor: Love and Thunder characters and attempt to rescue Thor from Gorr, the villain of the film. After completing each phase of the fight, Thor will regain his power and join in on the fight against Gorr alongside Miek, Korg, and Valkyrie. Upon completion of the fight, players will be rewarded with a new Gorr-themed Special Battle Badge.

In addition to the Epic Invasion, players can now recruit the Mighty Thor, who can charge lighting energy. She can also use lighting to pierce enemies and increase damage as it travels from one enemy to another. While an enemy is electrocuted, they'll do less damage, so players can effectively target multiple enemies.

A special mighty event is also coming to celebrate the new update. Players can spin the wheel for a chance to recruit the new Mighty Thor. The "Thunder Fragment Craft" will also be available, allowing players to partake in the Invasion: The God Butcher to earn a three-star Thor.

Valhalla in the MCU Explained: Who Is There, How to Get There, and More

1 year 9 months ago

Curious as to what Valhalla is and how it works in the MCU? Want to know who can get there and why? Well, we have got the answers for you. The rules of the afterlife can be a bit confusing in the MCU, but luckily, thanks to other MCU entries, we are starting to get a pretty good idea of what the afterlife looks like and how it works.

***Warning: There are major spoilers for the ending of Thor: Love and Thunder and Moon Knight below. Read at our own risk.***

What Is Valhalla in the MCU?

Valhalla is the afterlife that is reserved for Asgardians who die in battle. It is often seen as a place where warriors wish to go, as it is supposed to be a beautiful place where people can drink endless mead and experience many great pleasures.

As for how the place looks, it is indeed shown to be beautiful and seemingly peaceful in Thor: Love and Thunder’s post-credit scene. We don’t get too much of a look at it, so we will have to wait and see just how true this is.

Valhalla seems to be one of the many afterlives that exist in the Astral Dimension, including the Ancestral Plane from Black Panther and The Duat from Moon Knight. In Moon Knight, it is revealed that all of these afterlives exist in the same dimension, but it depends on the person who’s died’s beliefs and culture when it comes to which kind of afterlife they will be welcomed in.

Thor Love & Thunder Necrosword Explained: What It Does, Who Wields It, & More

1 year 9 months ago

In Thor: Love and Thunder, a brand-new mystical weapon was introduced to the MCU. The Necrosword is a pure black blade that seems to have a mind of its own at some times. Here’s everything you need to know about who wields the Necrosword in Thor: Love and Thunder and what it does.

***SPOILER WARNING: All of the content down below contains important story spoilers about Thor: Love and Thunder.***

Who Created the Necrosword?

As of right now, we don’t know who created this weapon. Even though there’s no apparent connection between the Symbiotes and the Necrosword in the MCU, it’s still entirely possible that the existence of this weapon could be hinting at the introduction of Knull.

In fact, there has been a connection to Knull in the MCU for a long time now. The decapitated Celestial head known as Knowhere was severed by none other than Knull. It’s very possible that he lost the Necrosword and has just been sitting back and waiting until the time was right.

And if that’s the case, then it’s possible we may even be getting some Symbiotes (currently owned by Sony) in the MCU like Venom and Grendel. But that’s something that’s likely years down the line if it’s going to happen at all.

Shroud Joins Sentinels Valorant Team In Sensational Return to Esports

Michael “shroud” Grzesiek, the former Cloud 9 CS:GO player and incredibly popular Twitch streamer, is making a sensational return to Valorant. North American esports organization, Sentinels, has unveiled he will join the roster ahead of the upcoming LCQ tournament over on Twitter earlier this afternoon.

The move comes after Hunter “SicK” Mims opted to temporarily withdraw from competitive Valorant due to an ongoing situation with his family. His departure naturally prompted speculation as to who might replace him, with many believing that coach Shane “Rawkus” Flaherty would be the obvious option.

Of course, we now know that Sentinels had something much more dramatic in its plans, as the signing of shroud is likely to send intrigue in the team’s success skyrocketing.

Madison Elevator Mausoleum Puzzle Guide

1 year 9 months ago

Get ready for a dose of backstory. In Madison, after you cut the power in search of the red lightbulb your possessed self drew in your notebook, the front door will open. It isn’t freedom you’ll find behind it, however; it’s an elevator and mausoleum for the victims of Madison’s titular serial killer. Each floor introduces you to one of her victims, revealing the path of her killing spree. On the fifth floor is a mirror that reflects a chair and a noose. But what does it all mean? Let us help you through one of Madison’s most poorly explained puzzles, the elevator in the mausoleum puzzle.

Note: Madison features changing puzzles for different playthroughs, so the specifics of solving this puzzle may change, but the method will be the same.

Assembling the clues

To solve this puzzle, you’re going to need your hammer. If you put that in storage previously, you’re going to want to pull it out beforehand, since it’s a long walk back to the item locker.

Each floor of the mausoleum is plus-shaped, with the elevator on one point, and a burial chamber on all the others. A loudspeaker will explain to you what happened to the victim on each floor. In the middle of each floor is a column with a ring of numbers on it. On the top floor is another column, but this one only has circular holes dotting its sides. The column has four rings on it and bears a resemblance to the ones beneath it.

Skyrim Together Reborn Mod Finally Promises Reliable Co-Op Multiplayer In The Elder Scrolls V

1 year 9 months ago

Playing The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim in multiplayer has always been a dream for many fans of Bethesda’s ultra-longevous game, and today, that dream has become a reality, at least on PC.

A small team of fans has launched Skyrim Together Reborn, a mod designed to let player enjoy the game on a multiplayer server.

This is not the first mod of this nature (hence the “Reborn” in the title) but previous solutions have always been glitchy, unstable, and unreliable.

The folks at The Together Team have revamped the mod radically in order to create a reasonably stable and reliable experience that has finally the potential to be enjoyed beyond the odd evening.

At the moment, only Skyrim Special Edition for Steam version 1.6 (the latest, also included in the Anniversary Edition) is officially supported and the team clearly states that the console versions, the Game Pass version, and Skyrim VR will never be supported.

The aim of the mod is to provide a good experience for 2-8 players, but it has been tested successfully with 30+.

You can download it here, and take a look at an official guide on how to get started below.

A wiki is also available alongside a Discord server to find more information and support.

Baldur's Gate 3 Hotfix Stops Summons From Turning Into Zombies

1 year 9 months ago

A day after releasing Patch 8, Larian Studios has implemented a small hotfix for Baldur's Gate 3. The quick patch addresses a peculiar issue that had recently sprung up in the game, which was causing the corpses of dead characters to go about their business as if they hadn't just been murdered in cold blood.

"Some folks just like to hang around long after they've overstayed their welcome, and we had a pesky issue where some summons and characters were really making their presence felt on your portrait bar," Larian Studios writes in a Steam blog post. "This has now been rectified."

The issue in question was affecting both summons and NPC characters, causing their in-game portraits to multiply uncontrollably within the UI. And in a creepy turn, their corpses would remain active even after they were unsummoned or killed.

Beyond that fix, the hotfix addresses several issues that were causing Baldur's Gate 3 to crash. The full patch notes can be found below.

Is Loki In Thor: Love & Thunder? Answered

1 year 9 months ago

Loki is the god of mischief, brother of Thor, adopted son of Odin, faker of deaths, and a trickster through and through. His place in the MCU has always been a bit of a mystery. Is he dead? Is he alive? Is he really working with Thor or is this just another trick to help him gain power and become ruler over the nine realms? The latest question is whether or not Loki is In Thor: Love and Thunder.

Does Loki Appear In Thor: Love & Thunder?

Thanos Kills Loki

The quick answer is, yes, he does appear in Thor: Love and Thunder, but only in flashbacks and by mention. The longer answer is a bit more complicated.

In the current MCU, Loki is fittingly in two places at once. Technically, this depends on the Loki you are referring to, but the Loki we know from the original series is indeed dead.

Amazon Prime Members Can Get A Fire TV Stick For Super Cheap Ahead Of Prime Day

1 year 9 months ago

If you're an Amazon Prime subscriber looking for a deal on the company's Fire TV Stick, you don't need to wait for Prime Day to kick off next week. It's already on sale now--and at a deep discount, too. The Fire Stick normally sells for $40, but right now you can get it for nearly 60% off.

Amazon Prime Day 2022 kicks off next week, but both Amazon and its competitors like to start early and get people hitting the Add to Cart button as soon as possible. We're already seeing a ton of discounts on stuff like gaming monitors, video games, new TVs, and more from brands like Apple. Amazon Prime members can also grab 25 free games with their subscription, while Target is hoping to take its own cut of the shopping holiday with Anti-Prime Day deals of its own.
