The best gaming keyboard is nearly half price for Prime Day 2022... in the US

1 year 10 months ago

If there’s a US-only Prime Day 2022 deal I wouldn’t mind seeing over here, it’s the Roccat Vulcan 120 for $88. That’s nearly a full 50% off the $160 RRP (I believe you aluminium mispronouncers call it “MSRP”), for a full-size mechanical keyboard that’s sat atop our best gaming keyboard rankings for ages.

What’s more, you don’t even have to limit yourself to Amazon – Best Buy are currently matching that price in their own sale.

How to Play Co-Op in Skyrim (Skyrim Together Reborn Mod)

1 year 10 months ago

The mod scene is always the best way to get wishlist-level features in a beloved game. Skyrim, for instance, recently got a mod that allowed for co-op. You read that right, co-op in Skyrim. Here’s how to play co-op in Skyrim with the Skyrim Together Reborn Mod.

What Is the Skyrim Together Reborn Mod?

Skyrim Together Reborn is a new version of the original Skyrim Together mod that the Together Team stopped updating around 2019. This new version, Skyrim Reborn Together, has been rebuilt to work with the Special and Anniversary Editions of Skyrim.

The Together Team describes the mod as:

Skyrim Together Reborn is a passion project, created through the work of a small team of volunteers. The aim of the mod is to develop a true Skyrim multiplayer experience that brings online multiplayer into this otherwise strictly single player game. Our focus is to create a co-op like experience for about 2-8 players, not an MMO but we have tested with 30+ players. We only support the latest patches of Special Edition and Anniversary Edition, that is any version 1.6.x.

Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition Cuts Through to Steam

1 year 10 months ago

While it’s not the most recent release in the Warriors Orochi series, Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition (yes, that is a confusing title) has landed on Steam today. Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition gathers all of the content from the musou game’s pre-Ultimate original 2012 release. The Ultimate version of Warriors Orochi 3 came two years later in 2014, but this is the first time any of Orochi 3 has hit Steam.

Considering this is still a Warriors game, its place in the franchise is explained on Steam with:

Set in a parallel universe created by the suddenly appearing Serpent King Orochi, the Warriors Orochi series consists of tactical action games where heroes from both the Dynasty Warriors series and Samurai Warriors series join the action.

To get a sense of the massive content offered in the Warriors Orochi 3 Ultimate Definitive Edition, there are 145 characters as well as Dynasty Warriors and Samurai Warriors characters. Not only those, but characters from other Koei Tecmo published games such as Dead or Alive 5 and the Atelier series make an appearance.

Kirby has a delicious-looking new multiplayer title heading to Switch this summer. Kirby’s Dream Buffet pits friends against each other in a platforming, snack-devouring race.

One to four players roll their Kirby through four rounds of food-themed obstacle courses, and whoever collects the most strawberries by the end wins. As seen in the trailer, players can use new cuisine-inspired copy abilities to gain the upper hand. That includes morphing into a cupcake that vacuums multiple food items or turning into sentient chocolate bars to perform Kirby’s signature rock slam.

Kirby’s Dream Buffet supports local and online multiplayer and will be sold digitally and at retail for an unannounced price.

Nordisk Games Acquires Supermassive Games

1 year 10 months ago

Another day, another acquisition in the world of video games. Supermassive Games, the studio behind horror titles like The Quarry and the newly revealed The Dark Pictures Anthology: The Devil in Me, has now been acquired by Copenhagen-based Nordisk Games.

Part of Egmont, a Nordic media group, via entertainment company Nordisk Film, the new owners of Supermassive has steadily built their portfolio in the games industry. Supermassive Games joins the likes of Avalanche Studios Group, Star Stable Entertainment, Flashbulb Games, Nitro Games, and MercurySteam as part of that portfolio of both minority and majority-owned game studios.

According to Mikkel Weider, CEO of Nordisk Games:

In acquiring 100% of the studio we’ll be able to increase our support to the team, and most importantly, continue the great working relationship we have with them.”

This 100% acquisition of Supermassive Games, which is based in the UK, follows after an initial stake of 30.7% in 2021. Pete Samuels, CEO of Supermassive Games, shared this statement alongside the announcement:

Kirby's Dream Buffet is a Fall Guys-Style Party Game Coming to Switch

1 year 10 months ago

Nintendo has announced Kirby's Dream Buffet, a Fall Guys-style party gaming coming to Switch this summer.

A short trailer (below) shows snippets of gameplay as different Kirbys race through bright and colourful courses in an attempt to become the plumpest Kirby in town.

"Kirby's Dream Buffet sees a gang of Kirbys rolling through a variety of food-themed stages in four rounds of frantic multiplayer fun," the official synopsis reads.

Nintendo's website shared some further details, saying players can choose to race downhill against another player locally or online against other players (at least eight players were shown in one race).

It doesn't appear to just be a race to the finish, however, as players will need to eat as many strawberries as they can on the way down. The more Kirby eats, the bigger it gets, and the faster it can roll towards the finish line, with the heaviest Kirby taking the crown. Players can also grab boxes to turn into different food items and gain certain power-ups.

A Terrible Tom Cruise Box Office Bomb Is Dominating Amazon Prime Right Now

1 year 10 months ago

Few Tom Cruise movies have come out of nowhere to be met with such a resoundingly disappointing thud as 2017’s The Mummy. That’s right, it’s fair to say that Universal Pictures’ first foray into its Dark Universe series — which the company swiftly pumped the brakes on following the abysmal reception the first movie — was a mind-numbingly dreary slog.

Surprisingly, one of worst sci-fi horror movies from 2017 is making a comeback on streaming services right now. Specifically, The Mummy is dominating Amazon Prime, and is currently number one at the moment on the popular streaming service, according to Flix Patrol. We know — it beggars belief, right?

Directed by Alex Kurtzman, The Mummy had some pretty cool ideas up its sleeve. Indeed, on paper, the film sounds like a promising setup. A star-studded cast? Check. Some decent writers? You betcha. A studio poised to take a stab at creating its own darker MCU? You got it.

Unfortunately, things didn’t quite come together when it came to filming, and the end result is, well… a largely unentertaining sci-fi horror hybrid with Cruise doing his classic shtick.

Yes, The Mummy “boasts” a seriously awful 16% Rotten Tomatoes score as well as an eye-wateringly bad 34% aggregate score on Metacritic. Yikes!

But what say you, though? Are you in the mood to check out Tom Cruise’s epic sci-fi horror disaster? Or will you be giving it a wide berth? Let us know in the usual place down below.

Phoenix Buffed in Valorant Patch 5.01 Along With Kayo & Yoru; New Smurf Detection System Coming Soon

1 year 10 months ago

Phoenix has finally been buffed in Valorant’s latest Patch 5.01, the full notes of which were released today and reveal two other notable Agent changes that see both Kayo and Yoru also enjoy buffs. Elsewhere, there’s a new smurf detection system set to be trialed in North America later this month, which aims to reduce an issue that continues to plague the game.

In today’s patch notes, Riot Games’ comms strategist Jeff Landa explains that Riot believes Phoenix’s Curveball flash is the “cornerstone of his kit,” and that’s why improving its performance was the team’s main focus for this latest buff.

The changes don’t end there, though, with his re-equip time decreased after using Blazewall, and his shield now restored after using the Run it Back ultimate. These changes were both tested in Valorant’s PBE over the past few weeks, something we noted in an update of a recent article that discussed the need for Phoenix to be buffed.

We view Phoenix as an aggressive entry Agent, so the additional Run It Back and Blaze changes are intended to support his proactive intentions when taking space or fights early on into rounds.

New Series Featuring Pokémon Trading Card Game Planned

1 year 10 months ago

Pokemon Trading Card Game

The Pokémon Company is gearing up to produce a new series based on the Pokémon Trading Card Game. But rather than a narrative adaptation or a work of fiction, the series will apparently be unscripted. That means it could be non-fiction, such as a documentary, or more like a "reality" show. The company opened a casting call seeking candidates in the Los Angeles, California, U.S.A. area and its surroundings [Thanks, ANN!].

Casting for the Pokémon Trading Card Game show (its actual title is currently unknown) is managed through the company Casting Crane. The casting call seeks "energetic, personable candidates of all ages and their families." The call focuses on the candidates' experiences with the Pokémon TCG. Scenarios described include trying to learn the game to connect with loved ones, honing their TCG skills, or life as a competitive player. Casting Crane particularly wanted to hear "how a Pokémon TCG expert can help you". This could mean that the show may focus or feature where candidates are assisted by high-level Pokémon Trading Card Game players.

Nintendo Warns Switch Owners About Heatwave

1 year 10 months ago

Switch Heat

With temperatures rising in certain parts of the world and summer heat still going strong in North America, Nintendo issued a heatwave warning to Switch players, suggesting the console can only be used in temperatures up to 35 degrees Celsius or 95 degrees Fahrenheit. While that heat cap is pretty impressive, we'd recommend not testing it.

By way of Nintendo Life, Eurogamer referenced Nintendo Japan's Customer Service Twitter account, which advised Switch owners to avoid staggeringly high temperatures and keep the intake and exhaust ports unblocked.  The good news is that if the console gets too hot, it’ll automatically sleep. And for those who like to play using the Switch port, keep the setup in a cool spot. You can see the tweet below with a translation:

Kirby’s Dream Buffet Announced for Nintendo Switch

1 year 10 months ago

Fans of the Kirby franchise are in for a treat: Nintendo has just announced a brand new Kirby game that will be launching on the Nintendo Switch this summer. Kirby’s Dream Buffet, a 4-player multiplayer party game, will be a digital only title to be released on the Nintendo eShop.

The trailer for Kirby’s Dream Buffet shows the loveable Kirby and friends shrinking down in size onto a delicious looking cake where they roll around racing each other through obstacle courses.

Kirby’s Dream Buffet will support four players as they race through four rounds each, collecting strawberries to make Kirby grow. Then, a final battle will determine the ultimate winner.

Not much else is known about the game just yet, but this will be the second Kirby game to release this year after the ambitious Kirby and the Forgotten Land launched earlier in March. Of course, this year is Kirby’s 30th anniversary, so it’s no surprise that the franchise is getting plenty of love lately.

You can learn more about Kirby’s Dream Buffet on Nintendo’s official website right here. Here’s the description of the game via Nintendo:

Roll through a smorgasbord of food-themed stages in 4 rounds of 4-player* fun as Kirby…who seems rounder than usual? Race through delicious obstacle courses to collect strawberries as Kirby grows. Then, turn the tides in the final round—a fruity fight atop a floating platform.

F:NEX Spy x Family Anya and Loid Figures Can Be Displayed Together

1 year 10 months ago

Spy x Family Loid Anya Figure

F:NEX opened pre-orders for two figures of Anya and Loid from Spy x Family. The figures, both of which include a brick-style figure stand, can be connected and displayed together. The Anya figure will cost ¥14,300 (about $104), while the Loid figure will cost ¥17,600 (about $128). Pre-orders are available until September 15, 2022. [Thanks, Famitsu!]

The two 1/7 scale figures are based on each character's appearance in the Spy x Family anime adaptation. Loid Forger, an undercover spy by the name of "Twilight", wears his signature turquoise suit with black gloves. He also holds a silenced pistol in his right hand. The figure features finer details such as creases in Loid's three-piece suit, black dress shoes polished to a shine, as well as buttons and his bronze pin.

Anya Forger, a telepathic girl whom Loid adopted for his mission, is wearing her Eden Academy uniform. Her uniform features gold trim. Furthermore, Anya is also pointing her toy gun in front of her with a stern expression. In her left hand, she is holding her Chimera doll aka "Director Chimera". While the two figures can be displayed together, F:NEX does not appear to sell a third figure of Yor Forger as of writing.

Halo Infinite's Samurai 'Spartan Chonmage' Armor Recreated as Incredible Figurine

1 year 10 months ago

Halo Infinite's multiplayer mode recently introduced one of the most memorable Spartan armors in the franchise's history, and now that armor is being immortalized as a statue from Dark Horse Direct.

Check out the slideshow gallery below for an exclusive first look at the Halo Infinite Spartan Chonmage PVC statue:

This statue is based on the Fracture: Tenrai multiplayer event. In the Halo universe, the Chonmage helmet symbolizes ancient samurai generals who harmonized with their fellow warriors, while the Yokai helmet represents those who were consumed by bloodlust and the thrill of battle. This statue includes an alternate Yokai helmet piece for those who prefer that look.

The Spartan Chonmage statue measures 10 inches tall. This piece is priced at $99.99 and limited to 2500 units worldwide. It will be sold exclusively through Dark Horse Direct's website and the Microsoft Gear Store.

There's good news if you miss out on that limited run, however, Dark Horse will also release a variant edition of this statue based on the red Spartan Yoroi armor. That release isn't limited and will be available at various mass-market retailers, including through the IGN Store.

PowerWash Simulator review: a first-person soother built to relieve pressure

1 year 10 months ago

If the word "simulator" in PowerWash Simulator puts you off, please don't let it. Where other simulators double down on the minutiae surrounding the thing you're meant to be doing, that they put you off the thing you're meant to be doing, PowerWash Sim understands that you just want to rid surfaces of grime in the most satisfying way possible. You do not need to prize open your powerwasher with a tri-wing screwdriver or manage your finances via a convoluted banking app or determine whether a kitchen sink delivers enough pressure. Instead, you wash things with power: you power wash. You wash, powerfully.

After a year in early access, the game's launching in full with a variety of modes and I cannot stress enough how stress-less the experience is. This is a first-person soother you'll either think is an absolute bore or the best kind of meditative chore.

Marvel Snap Is a Celebration of Every Deep-Cut Character From the Comics You Can Think Of

1 year 10 months ago

As a longtime MCU-hating hipster, it seems fitting that out of all the possible things that Marvel could drop on us, it was a mobile card game that ultimately converted me. I kid you not, Marvel Snap is just that good.

Developed by Second Dinner, a studio headed up by Ben Brode of Hearthstone fame, Marvel Snap is a digital card game that’s extremely easy to pick up and learn. And unlike Hearthstone or Riot’s Legends of Runeterra, Marvel Snap‘s matches are, well, snappy. They’re fast, they’re over in six (sometimes seven) turns, and every game feels different.

The premise is simple. There are three locations in each match, and whoever has the most points on at least two out of the three locations by the end of turn six wins. The catch is that the locations are random, and they all come with different variables that can absolutely throw a wrench into your plans if you’re unlucky.

Kamar-Taj, for instance, doubles your On Reveal effects. So if you were to play Ironheart there, she would be able to increase the stats of your other cards twice. Or maybe you’ll hit Murderworld, where all cards there are destroyed after turn three, and get completely screwed because you placed a bunch of cards there before the location was revealed.

Locations are revealed on turns one, two, and three, so it’s always a bit of a risk to play a card at an unknown location. But hey, every once in a while, you might get lucky by sneaking a card into Sanctum Sanctorum, which comes with the condition that cards cannot be played there, though they can be moved over.

Phoenix Is the Next Valorant Agent Who Desperately Needs Attention [UPDATE]

1 year 10 months ago

Valorant’s meta is in a pretty good spot right now. Following a rebalance of its controllers, the arrival of a new initiator, and a nerf to Chamber that has been controversial but undeniably effective at reintroducing trap-heavy sentinels to the game, the meta supports a huge variety of different Agent compositions. Even Yoru is enjoying a renaissance these days!

But there’s one Agent who’s fallen so far from grace and been neglected for so long that he’s taken over the mantle as Valorant’s biggest meme: poor old Phoenix, the flash-heavy duelist with a kit of utility that isn’t just useless to his teammates but less effective than his own support Agents for fragging out.

Update 06/25/2022: Riot Games has confirmed it is trialing a number of buffs to Phoenix on Valorant’s Public Beta Environment server (PBE). These include a stronger and faster flash, reduced weapon re-equip time after using Blaze, and Run it Back ceasing to remove shields after use.

Update 07/12/2022: It appears as though the Phoenix buffs that were being trialed in the PBE server are now official and are live in Valorant as of Patch 5.01 (Credit ValorLeaks). These are as follows:

Nintendo Posts Tips to Prevent Switch Overheating in Summer

1 year 10 months ago

It's summertime in many parts of the world, including Japan. The country experiences notoriously hot and humid summers. For example, Tokyo's average temperature during summertime averages at 27°C (80°F). Nintendo Support of Japan kept people, and their Nintendo Switches, in mind, though. The official Twitter account spread some public reminders to help customers avoid Switch overheating issues.

Check out the tweets here.

https://twitter.com/nintendo_cs/status/1546333844109832194

Nintendo Support's tips for preventing Switch overheating focused on reminders of the Switch hardware's temperature tolerances. Nintendo Switches are best used in locations with a  temperature of 5°C to 35°C (41°F to 95°F). The advisory also warned customers to avoid blocking the Switch console's exhaust and intake ports, located on the top and rear of the main housing.

The advisory also linked the following FAQ on the Japanese Nintendo Support website. Check out the equivalent English-language page at this link, which lists the same information about Switch overheating prevention.

Helpfully, the Japanese page includes diagrams indicating the vents on the Nintendo Switch Lite and the Nintendo Switch OLED model. Check out the pictures of all three below. The labels are "排気口" for "Exhaust" and "吸気口" for intake. The official docks for the original Switch and Switch OLED have holes to prevent the intake valves from being blocked while the console is docked, preventing a docked Switch from overheating.

Here's for the original Switch.
