Persona 3 Reload Character Designer Talks About Protagonist's Battle Outfit

Atlus character designer Azusa Shimada talked about the new battle outfit for the main character in Persona 3 Reload. The redesign was inspired by biker jackets and military uniforms.

Shimada said that he wanted to design the new battle outfit for Persona 3 Reload with the idea of equipment that would be best suited to support a group of young people facing their destiny on the battlefields of the Dark Hour.

Shimada also added that he wanted to increase the appearance of sturdiness and storage capacity while keeping a sense of ease of movement and not making it look bulky. The main inspiration for the new battle outfit was biker jackets and military clothing.

While creating the new design, they considered a version with the jacket closed but ultimately decided to keep the familiar version. At first, Shimada was worried that the new elements would detract from the charm of the original design, but he hoped they could enhance the sense of realism during combat.

In a wild world, Rockstar's playing it straight with GTA 6

5 months 1 week ago

As Chris Tapsell pointed out a while back, every GTA game is love wrapped in satire. The series seems edgy because the satire is very broad, and often fairly misdirected. But the series sells - and the individual games stick around for so long - because after thirty hours of playing, you're responding purely to the love. Love of the genre, certainly. Love of the excess, sure. But love of the characters too and, more than anything, love of place.

I expected love of place to be firmly in the foreground for the GTA 6 trailer, which leaked earlier tonight, causing Rockstar to just go ahead and publish the thing itself. I expected this because Rockstar's first trailers tend to be vibe affairs. These games take so long to make you're often getting glimpses of the team working on new hardware for the first time and that's always interesting, but also, Rockstar just likes place. It likes to capture the essence of a location - New York, LA, the south-west in the days of stagecoaches and whatnot - in a few key frames suffused with the kind of billowing bloomy light that you don't often see outside of Turner. And then it moves in close for the details that will sell the place: the oil wells scandalously close to the LA beach (they're there in real life), the exhausted realtor hammering in a sign, the people living under the bridge.

Honkai: Star Rail Hanya Attack, Skill, Technique, and Ultimate Revealed

5 months 1 week ago

Honkai: Star Rail Hanya Attack, Skill, Technique, and Ultimate Revealed

HoYoVerse offered an update on the moveset for Hanya in Honkai: Star Rail, going over her normal attack, Skill, Technique, and Ultimate. It also offered an “interview” with the character going over her tasks and sister Xueyi.

First, Hanya’s normal attack is Oracle Brush. That deals Physical damage to one enemy. If someone uses the Samsara Skill for Hanya in Honkai: Star Rail, then that deals Physical damage and temporarily puts Burden on one enemy. Any allies who attack the foe with that effect gets Skill Points back even if they use a Skill or Ultimate. Her Netherworld Judgment Technique also applies Burden to a random enemy when a fight begins.

Meanwhile, the Ultimate Hanya uses helps a member of the party. When you use Ten-Lords’ Decree, All Shall Obey, she’ll increase someone’s attack and speed stats for a limited amount of time.

As for the interview, it goes over the Ten-Lords Commission judge’s background. She handles interrogation for the commission, while her sister is in charge of detention. It noted that both of their names are “codenames.” As part of her job, Hanya reads peoples’ memories. It also notes that her sister is most important to her, to the point where she’s willing to do extra work for more “reanimation” days with Xueyi.

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Teaser Announces Full Reveal Next Summer

5 months 1 week ago

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf Dragon Age Day 2023

Dragon Age: Dreadwolf has been a long time coming, and a new teaser trailer – arriving on Dragon Age Day, appropriately – provides a glimpse of its continent, Thedas, while also announcing when Bioware will properly reveal the game.

The trailer provides a cinematic flyby of Thedas’ map and a few scenic shots of locales as out-of-context musings from several characters set the tone. It wraps up with a message announcing a full reveal coming next summer.

It’s a bittersweet announcement. It’s good to know when we’ll finally see what Dreadwolf actually is. We're just bummed to get a teaser for a trailer that's months away. There’s always the chance Dreadwolf launches a few months after its grand debut (it’s happened before with several other big games), though the game was announced as being in the middle of full production last year, and with Bioware’s recent restructuring resulting in layoffs, a 2024 launch may be optimistic.

Shadow Eliminators Manga Begins Its Shonen Jump Run

Yet another new manga debuted in Shonen Jump, and this time it is the series Shadow Eliminators (Ruirui Senki). The Kento Amemiya series’ first chapter is now available to read on MangaPlus and Viz Media.

When Shadow Eliminators begins, we see new student Aoba Kuromori leaping over the gate after arriving late and gaining the ire and attention of the Public Morals Committee Vice-Chairman Yayoi Asakaze. Because of this, Yayoi follows Aoba and happens through the Human Ward into an Otherworld Hollow. He watches as Aoba deals with the Shadow affecting another student with the help of his grandmother. These Shadows can infect and take over someone, turning them into a Kasane. As a result, Yayoi gets caught up in his world, and the two found the Shadow Eliminators.

Previously, Amemiya worked on the series Shikigami and Beast Children. Viz Media also handled the latter.

This is the second recent new manga to show up in Shonen Jump. At the end of November 2023, Green Green Greensstarted its run. Its second chapter is live now, and the first chapter is still free to read.

The Best PS5 SSDs You Can Buy in 2023

5 months 1 week ago

The best PS5 SSDs are all but necessary these days. With a measly sub-1TB drive, the PS5 can only house a few storage-hungry games out of the box. If you’ve got a growing library, grabbing one of the best SSDs will save you the hassle of fiddly file management.

TL;DR - These are the Best PS5 SSDs

Yet size isn’t everything. When expanding your PS5’s storage, you’ll want to grab an SSD that fits the console’s internal M.2 port, rather than a USB drive that can be plugged in externally. PS5 games can’t be played from an external drive, and while installing an internal SSD will require taking off the console’s cover plate and fiddling with a couple of screws, you don’t need to be a hardware aficionado by any means, and either way we have a handy little guide to help you out.

F1 Developer Codemasters Suffers Round of Layoffs

5 months 1 week ago

Veteran UK developer Codemasters has suffered a round of layoffs following the launch of racing games F1 23 and EA Sports WRC.

Codemasters owner EA confirmed the redundancies in a statement issued to IGN, although failed to disclose the number of staff affected.

“Our business is constantly changing as we strive to deliver amazing games and services that keep our players engaged, connected, and inspired,” an EA spokesperson said. “At times, this requires the company to make small-scale organizational changes that align our teams and resources to meet evolving business needs and priorities. We continue to work closely with those affected by these changes, providing appropriate support throughout this process.”

EA bought Codemasters, best known for the racing franchises Grid, F1, and Dirt, in 2021 for $1.2 billion. At the time, EA boss Andrew Wilson said he wanted to let the company retain its identity without too much outside interference. Codemasters CEO Frank Sagnier and CFO Rashid Varachia left soon after, and Codemasters, including Project Cars developer Slightly Mad Studios, was made a part of EA Sports.

Then, in May last year, EA merged the development team at Codemasters Cheshire with Guildford-based Criterion Games to create one large development studio to work on Need for Speed Unbound, which struggled to find an audience. Codemasters Birmingham continued to work on the Formula 1 franchise.

Zenless Zone Zero Bangboo, Eous, Drive Discs, and W-Engines Detailed

HoYoVerse went over the equipment and allies people will encounter in Zenless Zone Zero, detailing how the Bangboo, Eous, Drive Discs, and W-Engines will work. All of them help players while in a Hollow.

The Drive Discs and W-Engines are the equipment Zenless Zone Zero players will use in the game. The W-Engine affects Base Attack, an Advanced Stat, and applies a W-Engine Effect. So for example the Starlight Engine shown by the company increases the Base Attack, has an Attack percentage increase as the Advanced Stat, and has the Knight Pummel W-Engine Effect that increases ATK by 24% briefly after someone starts a Chain Attack. W-Engines can be found via Proxy Primers and at the Box Galaxy Shop. To buy one, you need W-Engine Chips, Modification Materials, and Dennies. You can also combine the same kind of W-Engine to increase its Effect. Think of it as being like a Genshin Impact weapon
