The Sims 4: For Rent Is a Builder’s Dream Packed With Some New Challenges

5 months 2 weeks ago

When the City Living EP initially dropped, many Simmers weren’t too keen on the segregated apartment lifestyle that it introduced. However, this impression has since changed with the upcoming Sims 4 For Rent pack that finally ushers in a multi-family household.

I got the chance to attend a For Rent early digital event to get a sneak peek at these new features, showcasing a more complex side to the classic Build Mode. The life of a Property Owner was one of the first big changes I was surprised to see, given that landlord roles are relatively designated for NPCs.

Review: Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR Could Be a Quest Staple

While each Assassin’s Creed entry may vary in terms of performance, quality, and appeal, you tend to know what you’re getting into and the sort of experience to expect. With Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR, we get the staple gameplay of Assassins versus Templars in historical settings, but executed in such a way that it’s accessible, offers an array of scenarios, and is more comfortable than I expected.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus VR begins with players taking on the role of a hacker who works alongside the modern day Brotherhood of Assassins. They’ve been contacted by Abstergo, the Templar agency, to enter the Animus to explore past scenarios to gain data from artifacts found in scenarios starring Ezio Auditore from Assassin’s Creed II in Italy during the renaissance, Kassandra from Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey in Greece around the Peloponnesian War. and Connor from Assassin’s Creed III in America during the revolution. Each one has their own brief storyline and objectives, which all feel like they could have easily fit into their original games as part of the campaign.

FFXVI Arcade Mode Update Will Change How Scoring Works

5 months 2 weeks ago

FFXVI Arcade Mode Update

Square Enix released a notice that a Final Fantasy XVI arcade mode update will appear and change the way scores will be counted. The update is scheduled to arrive fon December 8, 2023, after which the old leaderboard will unavailable.

The arcade mode in FFXVI allows players who wish to engage more with its combat system to revisit certain dungeons and fights at a fixed level. Upon completion, players earn a score based on their performance, including combo length and extra challenges completed. That can then be uploaded to an online scoreboard. After this update, however, the method for calculating these scores will change. A new leaderboard will be used to record scores under the new system. The notice does not elaborate on what exactly the changes to scoring will be, so players will have to experiment to find the best ways to rack up their scores once the update is out.

You can read the full notice in the tweet below.

Yasumi Matsuno Says There Are No Plans to Remaster Final Fantasy Tactics

5 months 2 weeks ago

final fantasy tactics remaster

On Twitter, Yasumi Matsuno stated that there no plans at the moment to remaster Final Fantasy Tactics. He added that if fans have a request for a specific game or remaster, they’d have to directly contact Square Enix instead of the developers.

The exchange took place on November 28, 2023, when a user made some quality-of-life requests for a possible Final Fantasy Tactics remaster. However, Matsuno replied that there are no plans at Square Enix to remaster that game. Matsuno added that it’s up to the user (as well as other users who may have seen the exchange) whether they believe Matsuno or not. It should be noted that in February 2023, some fans thought that there would be a remaster of Final Fantasy Tactics on the way due to an interview about Theatrhythm Final Bar Line.

Good games from 2023 that didn't quite make my GOTY list #2: The Banished Vault

5 months 2 weeks ago

With apologies to Bithell Games for the two-in-a-row smackdown of games they released this year, the next entry on my list of good things that didn't quite make my personal GOTY rankings in 2023 is none other than The Banished Vault. I'll put my hands up here - I really did intend to review this one properly when it came out back in July, and I regret never quite getting round to it. Time, as ever, escaped me in the run-up to Gamescom, but it was also one of the first games in a while where I felt I wasn't quite equipped to do it justice.

Argenti Trailer in Honkai: Star Rail is Theatrical

5 months 2 weeks ago

honkai star rail argenti

Ahead of his playable debut in Honkai: Star Rail, HoYoVerse uploaded a trailer for Argenti. As a reminder, he will appear as a new five-star from December 6, 2023.

You can watch the Argenti trailer, called “Chivalric Romances,” for Honkai: Star Rail here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhqU5X_sMPA

It is also available in Mandarin Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.

While similar to Kafka’s trailer in that it’s very theatrical, Argenti’s has a more humorous vibe. It ends with mock credits, with Pom-Pom acting in place of the Omen of Evil and March serving as the straight man to Argenti’s funny man.

Cyberpunk 2077 Is Getting A Fully Functional Metro And More With A 2.1 Update

5 months 2 weeks ago

Turns out CD Projekt has even more plans for Cyberpunk beyond its 2.0 update and Phantom Liberty earlier this year. During a stream detailing the update with developers Paweł Sasko and Monika Janowska, the team at CD Projekt revealed Cyberpunk will be getting a 2.1 update soon that will add a fully functional metro, radioport, replayable car races, boss fight improvements, accessibility features, and more. The update will be available December 5 (the same day Rockstar is launching the trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto), which will also mark the release of Cyberpunk 2077's Ultimate Edition.

The metro system, called NCART in the game, lets players move around the city and take in the views. The Radioport will let players listen to music outside of vehicles. The update will also allow players to to invite their in-game significant others to "quality time" together in V's apartment. The other previously mentioned updates are a little more self-explanatory, though CD Projekt did specifically mention that the boss updates were specifically applied to the late-game encounter with Adam Smasher. He is also now equipped with Sandevistan, which was seen in Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. New vehicles will be added like the Porsche 911 Cabriolet and others, motorcycle handling has been improved, and there are also technical updates like larger fonts and the option to turn off timers in the Breach Protocol minigame.

EA Sports WRC: an engine change for the worse?

5 months 2 weeks ago

UK developer Codemasters has a rich 37-year history of racing games, with its own EGO Engine used to create every flavour of racing game you could imagine. From the tarmac racing in F1 and Grid to the off-road thrills of Dirt and the more realistic Dirt Rally, it has every base covered. But the times are changing, and so is the technology. In 2020, Dirt 5 switched to an evolved form of the Onrush engine instead - to great success - while this year the launch of EA Sports WRC sees a more radical break with the studio deploying Unreal Engine 4.

This fascinating transition raises some questions. Have the visuals truly benefitted from the change? In comparison to the likes of Dirt Rally 2.0 - an EGO Engine title that was handled by the very same team in 2019, is the rally experience of EA WRC improved? And how does it run today on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, S and PC? That's what we've aimed to find out with testing on all four platforms.

The official reason for the engine change, based on developer interviews, is to allow for larger circuits. In EA Sports WRC it's possible to map out rally routes of up 30km in length. Seemingly there was a size limit with its own EGO Engine tech, and Unreal Engine 4 allows the team to break through this barrier. And no doubt, the jump to Unreal Engine also allows Codemasters to reap certain benefits native to the tech like platform scalability and Epic's TAAU upscaler. Plus, it's clear that WRC makes for a good test-bed to see if the engine is suitable future games.
