5 months 1 week ago

Despite legal hurdles, EA Sports College Football is still on track for a Summer 2024 release after EA Sports settled a lawsuit filed earlier this year regarding the use of players' likenesses.

Spotted by sports business outlet On3, the outlet reports that EA Sports reached a settlement agreement last Thursday with OneTeamPartners and The BrandR Group, two agencies specializing in licensing deals for student-athletes. In a joint statement, both agencies noted that both had reached an "amicable settlement of their past dispute related to college group licensing."

More Free Beat Saber Songs Arrive in OST 6

There is a new pack of free Beat Saber songs, with players able to access Original Soundtrack 6 (OST 6) now. There are five songs total in it, though one is a “surprise” and unavailable yet.

Here’s the full list of four known songs being added to the game. The developer only noted that the fifth one is “coming soon” and offered no hints as to its identity.

  • “Heavy Weight” by Lindsey Stirling
  • “Lift Off” by Far Out
  • “Power of the Saber Blade” by DragonForce
  • “Tempo-Katana” by Camellia

There’s also a trailer for the new, free Beat Saber songs. It only focuses on showing under a minute of the Expert-level difficulty version of the song “Heavy Weight.” It shows some of the note patterns people can expect from that track.

How to Fix ‘Action Requires You to Be Connected to Online Services’ Error in Disney Dreamlight Valley

5 months 1 week ago

Disney Dreamlight Valley may be something you can play completely solo, but there are a few systems in the game that require you to have an online connection, including its multiplayer. At times, then, you may be hit with an 'Online Request' that states 'This action requires you to be connected to online services. Do you want to connect.' The problem is, you might already have an online connection when this arises, so what gives?

What the Disney Dreamlight Valley Online Request Means?

As noted, the online request will appear when you're performing an action that requires you to be connected to the internet. The example, I've stumbled upon when playing through the game is when trying to open specific chests that will contain Moonstones, such as the blue chests scattered throughout the magical world. These aren't your ordinary chests that contain Star Coins though, so don't stress too much. Your money-making methods can continue, uninterrupted from connection woes.

The fastest Steam Deck memory card we've tested is $29 for 512GB at Best Buy in the US

Samsung's Pro Plus Micro SD card is our top memory card recommendation for PC gaming handhelds like the Steam Deck, ROG Ally and Legion Go, and today you can pick up the 512GB version for just $29 at Best Buy. That's a pretty steep reduction from its previous price of $48 and even beats the best Black Friday price we saw this year of $31.

Note: the photo above shows the 256GB model we tested, but I can confirm this price is for the 512GB size.

Our thoughts on the GTA 6 trailer

5 months 1 week ago

This week on the Eurogamer Newscast, we discuss the first ever trailer for GTA 6 which was finally released following a tease from Rockstar, after the trailer leaked online ahead of schedule.

That means we've got a look at the game's two protagonists, its modern day Vice City setting, and the general vibe of the game's story. We also know it's set for release in 2025 across PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles, with no news yet of a PC release.

So what did we make of the trailer and the news? What are we hoping to see in GTA 6? And what's the future of GTA Online? Tom's away, so this week's podcast is hosted by me. I'm joined as ever by Eurogamer's Victoria Kennedy and Liv Ngan, as well as GTA Online expert Marie Pritchard from the Eurogamer guides team.

By Nvidia’s count, there are now 500 games and applications that employ DLSS upscaling and ray tracing visual effects – or "RTX technologies," in GPU superpower speak. While there’s arguably some cheekiness behind that count, as ray tracing in particular is not an RTX-exclusive feature, it is nonetheless quite the feat for a set of tools that launched in subjectively auspicious circumstances back in 2018.

The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered's Roguelike Mode Is More Than Just a Novelty

5 months 1 week ago

When I heard The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered would include a repeatable roguelike mode, the first reaction I had was “...huh?” But after playing the No Return mode for a few hours last week, my tone has shifted to an enthusiastic “huh!” What could have been a throwaway novelty in this already excellent game’s journey to PlayStation 5 actually has surprising depth, with unique characters and costumes to unlock, interesting build paths to explore, and a whole bunch of ridiculous modifiers to shake up its familiar fights. No Return isn’t going to put the best standalone games of the genre out of business or anything, but so far it also feels like more than just a remixed trip down a murderous memory lane.

The premise of No Return is simple: you pick a character with a unique starting loadout and work your way through a branching tree of randomized fights, earning resources to buy items, upgrade your skills, and improve your weapons along the way. If you can complete five encounters you’ll get the chance to take on a boss, but dying once ends the whole run like a proper roguelike. This setup gives The Last of Us Part 2’s tense and nuanced stealth combat an excellent platform on which to shine, toying with it in creative new ways.

GTA 6 appears to have its own Florida Man parody

5 months 1 week ago

Doom scrolling social media looks to have replaced the age-old pasttime of watching TV in GTA 6, which has prompted feelings of alternating despair and increasing irrelevance in me this morning. I barely understand how TikTok works in real-life, let alone a video game pastiche of it, and oh god, how did I get so old and craggy? I'm just here for the nice-looking flamingos, Rockstar, not a 24/7 twerk stream I can access from the palm of my hand. Of course, TV watching may yet have been preserved beyond what we've seen so far in the first trailer for GTA 6, but even if it's been consigned to the bin of modern history, there might yet be one light in the TikTok-esque darkness to make GTA 6's in-game social media network worthwhile.

Upon closer inspection of the account names seen in the trailer, it's "PlanetLeonidaMan" that gives me hope, because if this isn't a riff on the Florida Man meme, I'll take a dump on a dead possum during rush hour traffic, hurl Oreos at Matthew as we argue over our empty coffee maker (teapot, come on), and try to cross the Atlantic in a hamster wheel vessel to demand some answers.

Amazon Prime's Fallout TV adaptation will not arrive with any references to bugs and glitches in its first season.

But, despite them being a common Bethesda occurrence, the first season of Fallout will not include any playful references towards these unintentional video game issues, showrunners have now confirmed.

Arizona Sunshine 2 Review

5 months 1 week ago

There’s something about watching a mobile mosh pit worth of undead targets lurch toward you as if they’re actually there that really gets the blood flowing. That’s why zombie games work so well in VR: at first there’s the overconfident thought that this is no big deal. They’re slow, and you have guns! But as you start to whittle away at the crowd the picture becomes much less rosy: they’re a lot closer, and you have a lot less ammo now. Panic sets in and mistakes happen as you fumble to reload your weapons with ghouls looming in your face. Arizona Sunshine 2 does a great job of putting you in that position and making you struggle to survive. And while it doesn’t do a whole lot other than that, which becomes a tad repetitive, it does make a respectable run at turning the first game’s nameless, one-liner machine of a protagonist into a character with depth – with a little help from his Buddy.

Shinjiro Aragaki Keeps it Cool in New Persona 3 Reload Character Trailer

Shinjiro Aragaki Persona 3 Reload Trailer

The latest character trailer for Persona 3 Reload features Shinjiro "Shinji" Aragaki. He's considered the “lone wolf” party member for a number of reasons. This was uploaded to the official Atlus English and Japanese YouTube channel.

In this new trailer, we can see how Shinjiro tries to save face with the other S.E.E.S members save for Koromaru, with whom he lets his guard down. His Persona, Castor, was also briefly previewed. With its help, Shinjiro can cast "Bloody Charge." That's an ability that increases his critical rate and physical strength.

Justice Slocum is Shinjiro’s new voice actor in Persona 3 Reload. You can hear his new performance for the character in the English trailer. This is one of his major breakout roles, as he has not voiced too many video game characters just yet. He did provide the voice of Tetsuro Kuromazaki in Lost Judgement in 2021.

Ark: Survival Ascended Shocks Players by Admitting ‘The Servers Are Ass’ During Charity Stream

It’s not often you hear developers admit the technology upon which their games are built isn’t up to the job, but that’s exactly what Jeremy Stieglitz, co-founder of Ark maker Studio Wildcard did during a recent livestream.

Speaking during Studio Wildcard's Extra Life Charity Stream on Twitch, Stieglitz addressed the elephant in the room: the awful performance of the recently released Ark: Survival Ascended.

“The servers are ass. They run like ass. And their stability is ass. We need to improve it. It’s going to be improved,” he said.

Twitch chat reacted with a mix of shock and admiration. “Wow truth,” one viewer said. “Facts,” said another. “Finally someone that gets it,” said a Twitch user. “The guy knows it lol,” said another. "Did somebody really say that lmao," said a bemused viewer. "Damn legend," said an impressed ZestyWumpaFruit.

The Batman: Arkham Trilogy on Nintendo Switch should never have shipped in this state

5 months 1 week ago

Rocksteady's Batman: Arkham titles are some of the best superhero games of all time. The trilogy - Arkham Asylum, Arkham City, and the spectacular Arkham Knight - are polished and beautiful action games. Their recent Switch ports, however, seem a little curious. The first two titles make sense, as PS3/Xbox 360-era games, but Arkham Knight was a boundary-pushing PS4/Xbox One title with visuals that require careful retooling to run effectively on Nintendo's low-power hybrid console. As you might have grasped from the headline, that hasn't happened with the Arkham Trilogy release - so what exactly went wrong and how do the two less-demanding titles hold up in comparison?

Let's start with Batman: Arkham Knight - which is an unmitigated disaster on Switch. There are a lot of problems here but performance is by far its biggest flaw. In broad strokes, we're looking at sub-30fps frame-rates with near-constant drops, especially during open-world traversal. Readouts in the 20-25fps region are common as we glide above the city, with frame-rates stabilising somewhat once we're on the ground.

Looking at the frame-time graph, it's clear that frame delivery is highly variable with frequent stutters over 100ms - so the game feels subjectively worse than the average frame-rate would indicate. We even saw Batman momentarily jerk back in our footage every so often as the frame-rates drop, which seems to be a byproduct of the camera continuing to move while Batman remains stationary for a frame. It feels a lot like the rubber-banding effect players of some online multiplayer games might have experienced, like in older Battlefield titles.

GTA 6 Trailer Already Has More Views Than Cyberpunk, Red Dead 2, and Zelda: TOTK Reveals Combined

5 months 1 week ago

Grand Theft Auto is huge, that's no surprise, but Rockstar Games' GTA 6 trailer has surpassed 69.2 million views within 15 hours, meaning it's already been watched more than the reveal trailers for Cyberpunk 2077, Red Dead Redemption 2, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom combined.

The highly anticipated debut trailer, which was due to premiere today, December 5, but was posted on December 4 following a leak, is currently racking up tens of thousands of views per minute. In fact, we've had to edit the introduction of this article three times already as the million mark keeps ticking over.

And while 69.2 million is a lot of views under any metric, it's even more impressive, and almost unbelievable, when compared to some of the biggest video game releases of the last five years. Cyberpunk 2077, for example, the futuristic open world role-playing game from beloved developer CD Projekt Red, has 28.6 million views on its initial teaser trailer.
