Red Dead Online’s Bounty Hunter Update Expands on the Promise of Frontier Pursuits

3 years 5 months ago

Red Dead Online players have requested many new features since the game’s launch, but one of the aspects of the game that players wanted to see expanded and improved upon, more than any other, is the Frontier Pursuit (also known as Roles) system, a component of the game that has a wealth of untapped potential.

For all of the freedom that Red Dead Online offers in terms of exploring and interacting with the world, there’s the sense that even more can be done to fully blend the experiences provided to each player through their role.

Activities provided to players in each role are largely solitary, and when they do intersect, it feels like it’s only scratching the surface of what could be done with this feature.

Fortunately, Rockstar seems to be addressing this area of Red Dead Online. They’ve recently released an update for the Bounty Hunter Role, one of the first roles introduced to the game and one which has been behind newer roles in terms of content offered.

After taking some time to check it out, it’s safe to say that it’s a big step toward building on what makes Red Dead Online special and, hopefully, could serve as a framework for how to develop the game’s other roles.

Sephiroth’s Standard Moveset in Super Smash Bros. Is Refreshing

3 years 5 months ago

Nintendo is slowly but surely filling up the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate roster with video game characters from all over. The second round of the Fighters Pass kicked off earlier this year with Min Min from ARMS, and then we got Minecraft Steve, and now we have Sephiroth.

The devilishly handsome villain from Final Fantasy VII joins the cast of characters with a moveset that is wildly unique but also doesn’t stray far from the typical Smash Bros. fighter.

Both Min Min and Steve came with a certain type of moveset that one could call a sort of “gimmick.” Min Min had her pair of long, extendable arms that could be switched out with a button press and Steve brought the pixelated world of Minecraft with him, allowing him to craft swords and build blocks.

These DLC characters recently have had some wild movesets and mechanics, but Sephiroth is a bit different. He doesn’t have a “gimmick” per se, as he fights with pretty normal moves. With that being said, he still has some tricks up his sleeve that we’ve never seen before in Super Smash Bros., making this fighter a very enjoyable character to play as.

One of his standout moves that I love using is the neutral special, which is called Flare. But this move can transform into two other moves, depending on how long you hold the special for.

The first one is a quick burst of flame that can deal a good chunk of damage, and then the second one is a much faster orb that explodes on impact and has much farther reach, and that’s called Megaflare. And the final one, Gigaflare, takes a few seconds to charge up, but if you can successfully hit someone, it does massive damage and is very capable of killing at low percentages.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 10.0 Patch Notes Are Here

3 years 5 months ago

The handsome, villainous swordsman from Final Fantasy VII, Sephiroth, has made his way into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, along with a new stage, new Mii Fighter costumes, and a variety of memorable tunes from the iconic JRPG. The game also received a new update, and Nintendo has released the 10.0 patch notes, which we’ll list below.

It’s worth noting that this isn’t that big of an update in terms of character adjustments. This update is essentially all just for Sephiroth, but there will be another patch coming on Dec. 22 that will most definitely balance out some of the fighters, like usual.

Here are the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate 10.0 patch notes from the official Nintendo support page:

Control Next-Gen Ultimate Edition Set For Early 2021 Launch; Performance Modes Showcased

3 years 5 months ago

Remedy Entertainment has today revealed that its upcoming next-gen version of Control Ultimate Edition is set for an early 2021 launch in a new teaser trailer showcasing its new graphical enhancements. The new version was originally slated for a launch this year before being delayed last month.

Control Ultimate Edition’s digital version will launch on Feb. 2, 2021, while a physical release is locked in for a month later on March 2, 2021. The new and improved version costs $39.99 on all platforms.

Unfortunately, those who purchased the game for previous generation hardware will not enjoy a free upgrade as has more or less become the industry norm.

What they can look forward to, though, are two different performance modes featured in the new Ultimate Edition, and today’s teaser showcases how they both work.

There’s both a performance mode and graphics mode, with the former offering 60 FPS gameplay, while the latter ups the resolution to 4k and adds ray-tracing at 30 FPS.

Riot Is Making a League of Legends MMO, According to a Studio Executive

3 years 5 months ago

Developer Riot Games is set to expand its popular League of Legends universe with its first MMO. The news comes by of a Tweet from Greg Street, vice president of intellectual property and entertainment, who candidly replied to one fan’s question asking about the nature of his new role with the studio.

Street had earlier made an announcement that he was heading up development efforts on a new project that fans were eagerly awaiting.

Soon after, one fan wishlisted an MMO in exuberant fashion, and Street simply responded:

It was a rather nonchalant way of revealing a game that League of Legends fans have, indeed, long been hankering for. Although, the confirmation is perhaps not all that unexpected given Riot Games’ string of announcements last year revealing several new projects, as well as a general shift in strategy to branch out and expand the IP.

Nintendo Direct Announced Featuring Super Nintendo World Theme Park

3 years 5 months ago

Today Nintendo announced a new Nintendo Direct, but this one isn’t going to be about games, at least not directly. No pun intended.

The broadcast will air on December 18 at 3:00 pm PST or 6:00 pm EST.

It will focus on the massively-anticipated theme park attraction Super Nintendo World that will soon open in Japan.

You can find the video embedded today so you can watch along as it airs tomorrow.

Super Nintendo World was announced all the way back in 2016 and was supposed to open in time for the 2020 Olympics. Unfortunately, the COVID pandemic threw a wrench into Nintendo and Universal Studios Japan’s plans.

Recently, Universal Studios Japan announced that it will open on Thursday, February 4.

That being said, I guess they’re still making that deadline, considering that the Tokyo Olympic games have also been delayed to 2021.

PSA: If You Value Your Eddies, Avoid Cyberpunk 2077’s Sweet Dreams Side Quest

3 years 5 months ago

Despite its current issues, there is no denying that Cyberpunk 2077 boasts an impressive amount of story content. From mainline missions to side jobs to gigs, there is so much to do storywise and so many different ways to play each one of them.

Whether you’re in it for the dialogue, overall narrative, or even just the gear and rewards you get for completing them, there are very few quests in Cyberpunk 2077 we don’t recommend you try at least once. The side job known as Sweet Dreams is the main exception to this rule, as we advise you downright avoid it altogether.

Sweet Dreams starts out as one of the random side jobs you can stumble across when traversing Night City. To be exact, you’ll find it right outside of the No-Tell Motel.

You’re only objective is to meet up with a mysterious client. Arriving at the hotel brings you face to face with Stefan, a black market braindance dealer offering you a virtu so good that it’ll make you “transcend.”

The catch is that he requires 16,000 eddies to get your hands on this once in a lifetime experience. The fact that you can’t talk him down off this should be the first red flag.

The second is that you need to shill out another 4,000 eddies for the equipment if you don’t have high enough skill. If you do end up paying Stefan, all it gets you is a one-way ticket to an ice bath. Congratulations, you got conned.

Sony Commits to Refunding Cyberpunk 2077 PlayStation Store Purchases & Delists the Game

3 years 5 months ago

Sony announced today that it will offer full refunds to those who wish to get their money back after purchasing Cyberpunk 2077 from the PlayStation Store.

On top of that, the game will be removed from the store itself until further notice, likely until CD Projekt RED can amend the issues affecting it.

You can find the announcement here, alongside a link to request the refund.

This comes after the game was met by harsh criticism due to running poorly on old-generation consoles.

CD Projekt RED had already committed to supporting the refunds and fixing the issues affecting the game a few days ago, but early reports mentioned that Sony wasn’t playing ball. Apparently, things have changed.

Cyberpunk 2077 is currently available for PS4 (if you can find a physical copy, I guess), Xbox One, and PC. It has also been confirmed to be coming for Xbox Series X and PS5 down the line with upgrades available for those who purchase the game for the current generation of consoles.

If you already picked up the game (and don’t plan to get a refund), you can enjoy our guide wiki that could provide you with useful information for your playthrough.

Sephiroth Release Date, Geno Costume & More Revealed During Smash Bros. Presentation

3 years 5 months ago

Nintendo held a live-streamed presentation today that was hosted by none other than the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate director, Masahiro Sakurai, to reveal more gameplay of Sephiroth, the latest DLC fighter.

Before Sephiroth was shown off, Sakurai revealed the new Mii Fighter costumes coming to the game. To go along with the theme of Final Fantasy VII, Barret, Tifa, and Aerith will be available for purchase for $0.75 each. There’s also a cute Chocobo hat and Super Mario RPG fans will be happy to hear that Geno will be arriving as a Mii Gunner costume as well.

As for Sephiroth himself, interestingly enough, we learn that he will only have his Japanese voice for all of his phrases. Also, every single Smash attack from Sephiroth will have super armor, making it difficult for enemies to stop the attack once it starts.

If you get KO’d as Sephiroth or even KO an opponent, there could be a chance that his dark wing will disappear, which is what allows him to perform multiple jumps in the air. If you’re at a stock disadvantage, the wing can come back after taking some damage. According to Sakurai, players will see some differences depending on the situation.

Sephiroth’s neutral special is one of three moves, depending on how long it’s charged for. If you fire it immediately, the move is Flare and it’s long-ranged and ends in an explosion. Hold it a bit longer to get Megaflare and the final move with the most power is Gigaflare.

The side special is Shadow Flare and shoots a projectile at foes, and if it hits them, purple flames will surround them and then eventually cause damage if not blocked correctly. It can also be reflected.

Redditor Creates Hysterical Cyberpunk 2077 Glitches Trailer

3 years 5 months ago

CD Projekt Red launched Cyberpunk 2077 last week on PC and consoles and you might’ve heard at this point that the game is crammed with some nasty bugs and glitches. It’s specifically hurting those who chose to play the latest AAA open-world RPG on base PS4 and Xbox One consoles.

I’ve already put together an article of some of the funniest glitches in bugs in the form of viral tweets and Reddit posts, but you know what’s better than separate tweets? That’s right, one single video that cuts together all of the best glitches found so far in Cyberpunk 2077, and the short clip is very well-edited if I might add.

The Reddit post comes from u/Campbell_Beans and is meant to mimic a launch trailer for Cyberpunk 2077, which would typically be presented in a way to sell gamers to Cyberpunk 2077. But this ‘Launch Glitches Trailer’ sort of does the complete opposite.

Take a look below and get ready to have a good ol’ chuckle.

The Callisto Protocol Gets Extended & Uncensored Trailer

3 years 5 months ago

Today Striking Distance Studios revealed a brand new trailer of their upcoming survival horror The Callisto Protocol.

The cinematic trailer is an extended and uncensored version of what we saw at The Game Awards, showing off more of the atmosphere that we can expect from the terrifying game.

You can check it out below. You’ll likely have to click through to YouTube because of the age restriction.

The story focuses on the protagonist’s attempt to escape a prison on Callisto, and discover the dark secrets hidden in the facility in the process. Of course, surviving is also kind of the point of a survival horror game.

The developers selected a prison as the setting because it’s a terrifying and ominous place on its own, and it’s even worse if it’s set on a dead moon lost in space.

The game is developed by Striking Distance Studios, which counts on developers like Glen Schofield and Steve Papoutsis, veterans of the Dead Space franchise.

It’ll be interesting to see if this new game will be the spiritual successor that many have been waiting for.

The Star Wars Vibes Are Strong in New Star Citizen Cinematic Short

3 years 5 months ago

Today Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games released a rather awesome cinematic short set in the universe of the game.

The short is the full version of the video we saw a few weeks ago, focusing on Alex Dougan and Madi Zhen, and it includes plenty of explosions, spectacular escapes, and drama. It certainly took a few pages from the Star Wars book.

You can watch it below.

“Intrepid smuggler Alex Dougan is in the midst of a messy job that sees her reunited with unpredictable former cohort Madi Zhen, pursued by bounty hunters and gangsters, and haunted by specters from her past. Can Dougan pilot her trusty Crusader Mercury, the ‘Belligerent Duck’, out of trouble yet again? Or will her luck – and her quantum fuel – finally run out?”

This kind of cinematic prowess certainly bodes well for the upcoming Squadron 42 single-player campaign which adds a star-studded cast on top of it.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Achieved Over 2 Million Players; Real-Time Snow And Ice Coming This Month

3 years 5 months ago

Today Microsoft announced that Microsoft Flight Simulator has achieved a new players milestone since its launch in August.

According to the announcement, penned by head of Microsoft Flight Simulator Jorg Neuman, the brand new sim passed two million players.

This makes Microsoft Flight Simulator the fastest-growing entry in the series.

We also get additional statistics, which you can see in the image below.

The growing community has logged over 50 million flight, visited 72% of earth, and flown over 3,5 billion nautical miles.

This means that each player has logged in average 25 flights, and flown in average 1,750 miles.

With 227 flights and over 60,000 miles flown (including a full trip around the world), I may be contributing at least a bit to driving these averages up.

3 years 5 months ago

CD Projekt Red’s rocky launch of Cyberpunk 2077 on PC and consoles this month has arguably been the hottest topic in the gaming industry this year. Last-gen players are experiencing loads of performance issues, with the company losing the trust of many fans, and even having to offer refunds for the 2020 AAA title. However, we have a bit of good news for fans of the open-world RPG: Cyberpunk 2077 content is now in Death Stranding for PC.

Yeah, it’s pretty random if you ask me, but Death Stranding has also had a collaboration with Half-Life, bringing in characters and equipment from the first-person shooter, so it’s not that wild when you think about it.

This Death Stranding x Cyberpunk 2077 update is only available for PC players and is out now for a total of zero dollars. It has six new missions that feature characters and lore from Cyberpunk 2077 and there’s even a new hacking ability for Sam Bridges that’s inspired by CD Projekt Red’s title.

3 years 5 months ago

Following the reveal of the new Trails game The Legend of Heroes: Kuro No Kiseki and of the remaster Nayuta no Kiseki Kai, Nihon Falcom released the first screenshots and artwork for both games.

The Legend of Heroes: Kuro no Kiseki will start what is described as the second part of the Trails series and will release in 2021, with platforms yet to be decided. It will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Nihon Falcom.

It’s set in the Republic of Calvard, a multi-ethnic country that is seeing unprecedented expansion thanks to the post-war reparations.

In a corner of the capital of a nation shaken by political unrest caused by immigration and bold political reforms enacted by the new president, a young man working as a “Spriggan” receives a strange request which will putt into motion events that will echo through the whole country.

The AT battle system has been renewed in this game, creating an evolutionary system that combines tactics with quick battles wich can seamlessly transition between turns and action.

We also hear about the “Topic System” that can create advantageous situations during negotiation by using clues (topics) obtained through talking to people in the city.

Characters also will have a specific attribute that will change between Law, Gray, and Chaos depending on playstyle.

There are a variety of original elements that take advantage of the setting of Kuro no Kiseki, like the “Alignment Frame” that affects the development of the story.

The game is created with Nihon Falcom’s new engine that promises a solid visual imprvements over its predecessors.

We also got a launch trailer, which you can watch below.

Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation Launches Christmas Event & Freebies Aplenty

3 years 5 months ago

Today Koei Tecmo and DMM launched the Christmas event on its popular free to play game Dead or Alive Xtreme: Venus Vacation.

The event features a new set of costumes split in several gacha, making it easier to aim for the girls you may not have unlocked (the latest heroine Tsukushi is, unfortunately, not available yet).

Login bonuses also lead to a SRR ticket for one of the Christmas costumes released in 2018, while those from last year are also available in their own gacha.

Incidentally, if you haven’t logged in lately, you likely should. The goodies from the latest livestream have been delivered, which means plenty of freebies including the December SSR trend ticket.

You can check the content of the event in the trailer below.

The Lizzie McGuire Disney+ Reboot Is Officially Dead

3 years 5 months ago

Actress Hilary Duff posted to her Instagram account earlier today to announce that the planned revival of Lizzie McGuire on Disney+ would not be moving forward.

Originally reported by Variety, the statement reads:

I’ve been so honored to have the character of Lizzie in my life. She has made such a lasting impact on many, including myself. To see the fans’ loyalty and love for her, to this day, means so much to me. I know the efforts and conversations have been everywhere trying to make a reboot work but sadly & despite everyone’s best efforts, it isn’t going to happen. I want any reboot of Lizzie to be honest and authentic to who Lizzie would be today. It’s what the character deserves. We can all take a moment to mourn the amazing woman she would have been and the adventures we would have taken with her. I’m very sad, but I promise everyone tried their best and the stars didn’t align. Hey now, this what 2020s made of.
