Apex Legends Fight Night Short Focuses on Pathfinder’s Origin Story

3 years 4 months ago

Every now and then, Respawn releases animated shorts that provide new info on the various characters participating in the Apex Games. Today’s Stories From the Outlands is called “Fight Night,” and it focuses on Pathfinder’s life before becoming an Apex Legend.

These Outlands videos are usually full of previously unknown lore. They tend to show aspects of the Legends that we wouldn’t otherwise see in the game.

Fight Night lives up to those expectations, as it shows Pathfinder waiting tables in a restaurant before he joined up with the other Apex Legends.

He was searching for his purpose, and in a surprising turn of events, he gets clues as to what he was built for while being interrogated by Victor Maldera – a detective who is searching for Caustic.

Detective Conan’s Airport Announced for Microsoft Flight Simulator

3 years 4 months ago

Japan takes its pop culture seriously, so you shouldn’t be surprised to see an airport named after a popular manga character, and that airport is coming to Microsoft Flight Simulator.

Tottori Airport, also known as Tottori Sand Dunes Conan Airport, owes its name to Tottori’s well-known and beautiful sand dunes and the equally-popular Detective Conan manga and anime.

The association with the pint-sized and beloved junior detective comes from the fact that his creator, mangaka Gosho Aoyama, was born in Tottori.

The airport itself is full of Detective Conan imagery and branding, and it even hosts a dedicated store with plenty of merchandise.

As you can see in the image above (courtesy of the local media TottoriNoto), Conan himself also appears on the front of the main terminal, with his name written in red within the logo of the airport.

As mentioned above, third-party add-on developer Gate15Scenery is working on creating the airport for Microsoft Flight Simulator.

At the moment, we don’t know when the release will be, but you can check out an early work-in-progress image below.

This is certainly great for those who love to fly in Japan, as Tottori’s Chugoku region is particularly lovely and after the first world update, not much has been released in term of local scenery.

Final Fantasy XIV Producer Teases “New Story” & “New World of Adventure,” Aims for “Leap Forward” in 2021

3 years 4 months ago

Final Fantasy XIV producer and director Naoki Yoshida has big plans for 2021.

He provided a few hints in a group interview on the Japanese website 4Gamer.

Yoshida-san mentioned that the goal is to make 2001 a “year that will be a leap forward for Final Fantasy XIV.”

He also encourages fans to stay tuned for “a new story” and “a new world of adventure,” teasing what kind of story awaits us next year.

It’s worth mentioning that the “new world of adventure” part is likely metaphorical, considering that Shadowbringers already included a literal “new world,” and I’d be surprised if they used the same trick twice.

Yoshida-san already teased big announcements for both Final Fantasy XIV and XVI (for which he serves as producer) ona similar interview on Famitsu.

We already know that Square Enix will host a big event in February, when the new Final Fantasy XIV expansion will likely be revealed.

Final Fantasy XIV is currently available for PlayStation 4 and PC and Square Enix recently announced that it has passed 20 million players.

Stardew Valley 1.5 Update Coming to Consoles Early Next Year

3 years 4 months ago

Developer of Stardew Valley, ConcernedApe, took to Twitter recently to confirm that the game’s recent 1.5 update would be making their way to consoles “early next year.”

While the developer doesn’t want to promise anything, they mentioned that it could be ready by the end of January.

At the very least, it seems like the update is on track to be added early next year as ConcernedApe said. All too often developers and publishers have creative definitions of timelines and early next year could mean anything from January to June. Fortunately that doesn’t appear to be the case here.

As far as the mobile version of Stardew Valley goes, though, there’s no timeline yet available. Fans there will have to be patient and check in on the progress until the timeline becomes clearer.

Update 1.5 for Stardew Valley recently released on PC and it’s a big one. It features new farm types, randomized community center upgrades, splitscreen co-op, new crops & animals and a lot more.

Jun Tamaoki, who worked on the VR mode of Ace Combat 7 and Summer Lessons mentions that he’s involved in various titles (which is describes as the broadest he’s been involved with in the past ten years) and believes he can gradually announce them going forward. He believes 2021 is the year in which the team can provide new ways to have fun emblematic of the time of “next” through the format of the games, introducing various initiatives following that trend.

Kensuke Tsukanaka, who recently worked on SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays is looking forward to the time in which he can announce the game he is working on.

Tekken boss Katsuhiro Harada hopes to relive the way of developing from the good old days with the latest technology.

This was before the COVID-19 pandemic likely hindered those plans, but hopefully, 2021 is the year in which those plans will start moving again.

Senran Kagura Creator Wants to Reveal His New Game For Consoles in 2021

3 years 4 months ago

Today Senran Kagura creator Kenichiro Takaki discussed his plans for 2021 in a large group interview on Famitsu.

Takaki-san, who semi-recently left Marvelous to work at Cygames as head of console business, mentioned that his aspiration for 2021 is to reveal am original new game for consoles that he’s continuing to work on with his colleagues in the new environment.

While Takaki-san doesn’t mention it explicitly, it could be the action game that he has teased back in 2019, created in collaboration with Senran Kagura character designer Nan Yaegashi.

He also encourages fans to look forward to Granblue Fantasy Relink following the latest reveal, which he believes demonstrated the game’s charm as a high-quality single-player JRPG.

Still from Cygames, we hear from Granblue Fantasy director Tetsuya Fukuhara, who asks the fans to continue supporting the team as 2021 will be an important year to focus on the development of Granblue Fantasy Relink.

He also mentions the upcoming seventh anniversary of the Granblue Fantasy franchise and first anniversary of Granblue Fantasy Versus, promising updates for both.

As a big fan of both Granblue Fantasy and Senran Kagura (I doubt anyone is surprised, by now), I certainly can’t wait to see what Takaki-san has in store for both Relink and his original new game.

Microsoft Flight Simulator Getting Free Add-On Introducing Realistic AI Traffic; Watch the Trailer

3 years 4 months ago

While Microsoft Flight Simulator is an awesome way to enjoy the joys of aviation, there certainly is room for improvement.

A field that certainly can use some help is live AI traffic. While it aims to simulate the real-world aircraft present at any given time in the air and at airports, it comes short due to using generic placeholders both in terms of models and liveries.

FSLiveTraffic Liveries aims to correct that, replacing those veritable Frankenstein Monsters with the real-world models and liveries.

This should, in time, make your airport look a lot more like their real-life counterparts.

You can check out what I mean in the trailer released today below.

Even better, this add-on will be completely free, which certainly never hurts in an industry in which we often have to spend $20 for a single airport.

It’s worth mentioning that the project is still very much work-in-progress, while its developers are working on gathering models and liveries, on top of ironing out the kinks. For now there isn’t a release date.

If you want to view regularly-shared screenshots and keep in touch with the news, you can visit the project’s discord server.

Do keep in mind that he did not promise that said reveal will come in 2021

Persona 5 Royal director Kazuhisa Wada mentioned that a project is progressing quietly behind the scenes. Atlus is also thinking of ways to share the excitement during the 25th anniversary of the Persona series in 2021, so fans should look forward to that.

Shinjiro Takada, producer of Shin Megami Tensei V, explained that the game is being developed diligently with the goal of making it a better game. While we’ll still have to wait a while (the game has a 2021 release window at the moment), he hopes fans will look forward to it.

It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds for Atlus fans. In the meanwhile, those living in the west will finally be able to play Persona 5 Strikers on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC in February.

NeoPle and Arc System Works Announce DNF Duel Fighting Game Based on Dungeon Fighter Online

3 years 4 months ago

Today Nexon’s subsidiary NeoPle hosted an event in South Korea dedicated to its popular game Dungeon Fighter Online, and announced a new fighting game.

The title is DNF Duel, and as the name suggests, it’s a fighting game based on the Dungeon Fighter franchise.

What may excite western fans the most is that it’s developed by fighting game masters Arc System Works, who once more tackle an external IP turning it into a fighting game after Granblue Fantasy Versus.

The trailer that you can see below, courtesy of 던반인, shows clearly that Arc System Works’ style is still very recognizable in this game.

Both cutscenes and gameplay are shown, and it looks really intriguing.

At the moment, no announcement has been made about the countries that will be targeted by the game, but Dungeon Fighter Online is quite popular worldwide (admittedly a lot more in Asia than in the west) so there’s hope.

“Today we would like to announce that we will no longer be releasing Gal*Gun Returns on the Xbox family of consoles.

As a remaster of the original GalGun, we wanted to strive to ensure that we stayed true to the spirit of the first entry in the GalGun series, and while development of the Xbox version was complete and the master ROM under review, it became apparent, after productive discussion with Microsoft, that we would be unable to ensure consistency of experience across all platforms.

As a result we have decided to re-focus attention to Nintendo Switch and PC for the upcoming release of Gal*Gun Returns.

We understand the disappointment from everyone who was looking forward to playing the game on Xbox One, and would like to thank everyone for their ongoing support. Please accept our sincerest apologies for this change in the planned release. We hope you enjoy the Gal*Gun experience on other platforms.
We look forward to continuing working with Microsoft on other PQube releases going forward.”

Final Fantasy XIV Celebrates Christmas With Touching Music Video Showcasing Shadowbringers’ Story

3 years 4 months ago

Square Enix released a brand new video of Final Fantasy XIV dedicated to the latest expansion, Shadowbringers.

Now that the story of Shadowbringers has ended (and it is one of the best the whole Final Fantasy series has to offer), the video recaps it from start to end showing its most poignant moments.

Paired with a new piano arrangement of the main theme Tomorrow and Tomorrow composed by Masayoshi Soken and performed by Amanda Achen, the video can be really touching if you’re invested in the story and characters.

It’s pretty much the perfect chance to sit down with a cup of tea on Christmas’ even and look back at the past year and a half. Just, your tea may end up a bit watered-down by the end.

You can watch it below. Keep in mind that the video includes spoilers if you have not played the story up to update 5.3 included.

Demon Slayer Mobile Game Delayed to Improve Quality

3 years 4 months ago

Aniplex has announced that the upcoming Demon Slayer mobile game Kimetsu no Yaiba: Keppu Kengeki Royale has been delayed.

The game was announced back in March with a 2020 release window, but it won’t make it this year (as it was quite obvious by now).

The reason is the usual, to further improve quality. There is no new release window even if 2021 is likely.

The development of the game is handled by Quatro A and Soleil, and the genre is defined as “asymmetric battle survival action.”

Players are split in two teams, demon slayers and demons. The game reproduces the conflict between demon hunters and man-eating demons on a map that recreates the world of the anime.

Incidentally, we have no additional news about the other game that was announced at the same time, CyberConnect2’s “Kaimetsu no Yaiba:  Hinokami Keppu Tan.”

We already knew that this game, in development for PS2, was targeting 2021, so it’s likely that we’ll learn more at a later time.

The genre of the PS4 game is “demon-slaying action” and the story follows that of the anime, with Tanjiro Kamado who becomes a demon-slayer to protect the people and his sister Nezuko, who has become a demon herself.

It’ll be interesting to see which of the two games will get its prime time first now that the mobile title has been delated to 2021.

Chris Roberts Discusses Star Citizen’s Record 2020, New Roadmap, Squadron 42, and More

3 years 4 months ago

Cloud Imperium Games founder and Star Citizen boss Chris Roberts has posted one of his extensive “letters from the Chairman” providing insight on the development of the crowdfunded game.

Roberts started by talking about the achievements reached in 2020 and the growth of the Star Citizen community.

“I can’t think of a better quote that encapsulates what Star Citizen has achieved this year, and the horrible year that 2020 became, as the world became upended by the biggest global pandemic since the 1918 influenza pandemic.

I would have never guessed last year that I would spend the last nine months of 2020 working from home under various levels of lockdowns, that I wouldn’t be able to travel to see friends or family in person or visit our various offices. COVID-19 has affected billions of people and cut short the life of way too many. To any of you that have lost friends or family members, or been adversely affected economically, our thoughts are with you. Hopefully 2021 will be a better year, allowing all of us to get back to a semblance of normal life. We certainly miss the personal connection we have internally when working together in the same space, or we get to experience with the community at events like CitizenCon, various Bar Citizens or get-togethers.
