It looks like Big Chungus is headed to MultiVersus

1 year 7 months ago

Warner Bros has filed a trademark for Big Chungus for use in video games, causing speculation (and hope!) that the supersized bunny is coming to MultiVersus.

The trademark, filed on 26th August with the European Union Intellectual Property Office, also covers a range of other things such as films, clothing, and toys. Whilst Big Chungus is perfect material for a soft toy, it seems more likely that he is being added to MultiVersus, given the game's popularity and broad roster of fighters.

For those of you who aren't aware of this absolute unit, let me explain.

Fortnite Update 21.50 Unvaults a Bunch of Weapons & Items for Shadow of Phantasm Week

1 year 7 months ago

Epic Games has rolled out the Fortnite 21.50 patch, which kickstarts the Shadow of Phantasm week and unvaults a number of weapons and items, as well as ending the Dragon Ball collaboration event from the past couple of weeks.

The news comes via an official blog post on the Fortnite website, which details the Shadow of Phantasm week. The main takeaway from the even for this week is the unvaulting of the Suppressed Assault Rifle, Suppressed SMG, Shadow Bomb and Shield Bubble. Players will need to complete a number of special quests to earn XP during the week-long event, starting at 9am ET today, August 30, and ending on Sept. 7 at 9am ET.

The two suppressed weapons will be available from the ground and Chests, while Shadow Bombs and Shield Bubbles can be obtained from the ground, Chests and Supply Drops. All of them will only be available for the duration of the event before they’re vaulted again.

As the Shadow of Phantasm event kicks off, the ‘Power Unleashed’ quests from the Dragon Ball collaboration event are no longer available. The Kamehameha and Nimbus Cloud items are still on the island, albeit at a lower drop rate compared to when the quests we live.

In terms of the other major removal, the 21.50 update also sees Fortnite’s Impostors playlist vaulted for the forseeable future. Epic Games has cited their teams ‘shift(ing) focus to other Fortnite projects’ as the reason for the removal of the game mode, inspired by Among Us.

Finally, the update has fixed bugs such as one in which Health and Shield bars would not correspond with the actual value remaining after taking damage. Another, where the Kamehameha would refill to three full charges when dropped by an eliminated player has also been resolved.

The Fortnite 21.50 update should be available to download now on all platforms.

New Witch on the Holy Night Trailer Features Alice Kuonji

1 year 7 months ago

kuonji alice mahoutsukai yoru

Type-Moon Games has released a new trailer for the upcoming Mahoutsukai no Yoru: Witch on the Holy Night game, focusing on Alice Kuonji. The trailer, at just over a minute long, plays Alice’s voice over images and text from the game. There is also a descriptor for Alice, though it is in Japanese.

Alice is a natural-born witch and the daughter of Meinster. As a fan of Lewis Carroll’s stories, Alice’s magic uses a lot of fantasy and fairy tale elements. More specifically, she uses familiars called Ploys. Alice is proud and solitary, and she does not like others, with the exception of Aoko. She is the so-called witch of the mansion, and she lives with Aoko Aozaki. Type-Moon also released a character trailer for Aoko earlier in August.

The Callisto Protocol Has an Achievement for Seeing Every Single Possible Death

1 year 7 months ago

The Callisto Protocol features a lot of different ways to die - and will reward you for being punished with every single one.

During an interview with IGN Japan, developer Mark James revealed that there’s actually an achievement for seeing every single possible death the game has to offer.

“We’re working on our achievements and trophies at the moment, and we actually have an achievement in there for seeing all of the deaths,” he said. “You are gonna die in our game. A lot of people ask how long the game is, and it’s like, how many times are you going to die? Also, the variables are huge in the way they attack you or you attack them, so you might actually die more or less. Even things like backing into a fan, it’s a mistake and it will result in a death, you’ll have to do that section again.”

The Callisto Protocol is the upcoming survival horror game from Glen Schofield – co-creator of the Dead Space series. Much like its predecessor, The Callisto Protocol has become renowned for its inventive (and rather gory) ways to die, and a recent gameplay trailer gave us a glimpse of just how gory it can get.

“It’s become our signature now,” said James about the game’s numerous deaths. “We have a signature death at the end of every trailer. We want you to see death not as a punishment but as a time to learn about what you did wrong, and a little bit of tongue-in-cheek entertainment about how you die.”

Sonic Frontiers Is The First Sonic Game I Want To Play Since Dreamcast

1 year 7 months ago

sonic frontiers

Let me save us all some time. I’m not going to tell you the size of Sonic’s shoes in Sonic Frontiers. I can’t tell you Amy’s relationship status – I don’t even know who she is besides being the cute pink one. And I’m certainly not an expert on Sonic games.

But I can tell you that Sonic Frontiers is the first entry in the series I’ve been looking forward to since the Dreamcast.

For reference, the last time I was excited to play a 3D Sonic game, it was attached to the Dreamcast kiosk at my local target. And to be fair, the orca jumping over the racetrack in the Sonic Adventure demo was a great reason to bug my mom for a new Sega console.

sonic frontiers

Fast forward 20 years, and I’m sitting in a behind-closed-doors Gamescom appointment to play Sonic Frontiers for the first time. While I’m not a fan of the series, I’ve always liked the concept of the games. I enjoy modern music. I like going fast, and I definitely like the Green Hill Zone.

Best Toy Story Video Games of all time, Ranked

1 year 7 months ago

Toy Story is by far one of the most iconic film franchises in animation. All four films have received major critical acclaim and commercial success, and the original film went on to completely change how we view animated films by being the first fully CGI animated film. The franchise even received a continuation in the form of the spinoff film Lightyear earlier this year.

This major success of a franchise marketed toward a younger audience would undoubtedly lead to video game tie-ins. And sure enough, the Toy Story franchise received several video game adaptations before film-based video game tie-ins went out of style in the 2010s.

But which games fly to infinity and beyond, and which ones are as uncomfortable as Woody losing his arm? Here are all the Toy Story video games, ranked from worst to best.

Kickstarter for Armed Fantasia & Penny Blood By Wild Arms & Shadow Hearts Creators Fully Funded in Less than a Day

1 year 7 months ago

Less than a day has passed since the joint Kickstarter for Armed Fantasia and Penny Blood has been launched, and it already passed its funding goal.

The two studios had jointly asked for $750,000 including the basic funding for both games, and the goal has been achieved in approximately 16 hours.

In case you’ve missed the news, Armed fantasia is a “western punk” JRPG developed by Wild Bunch Production. At the helm will be Wild Arms creator Akifumi Kaneko, alongside Wild Arms 5 and XF character designer Tomomi Sasaki, and composers Michiko Naruke (who created the music for Wild Arms) and Noriyasu Agematsu.

Penny Blood is a noir JRPG set in the 1920s developed by Yukikaze and Studio Wildrose. Shadow Hearts creator Matsuzo Machida, character designer Miyako Kato, and composer Yoshitaka Hirota will also return together.

With this kind of pedigree, it isn’t too surprising that the Kickstarter campaign has been successful.

Now, with a month left on the counter, we’ll have to see how far the games will go into their stretch goals.

Those will be reached separately, but also jointly, meaning that pledges for each game will contribute to reaching its own stretch goals but also a “combo” stretch goal that will benefit both.

If the console stretch goal is reached (for the moment the amount has not been announced but it could be the $1,000,000 joint goal if the hint is any indication), the games will release on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, with a tentative Nintendo option if the house of Zelda and Mario releases new hardware in the meanwhile.

Is Wrexham in FIFA 23? Explained

1 year 7 months ago

Wrexham AFC came into the limelight when in November 2020, Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney bought the Welsh football club. While the club isn’t quite a dominating force in world football just yet, the buzz around the team has resulted in many people asking is Wrexham in FIFA 23? Well, here’s what you need to know.

Is Wrexham AFC in FIFA 23?

Yes, Wrexham does feature in FIFA 23, but you’ll need to do some digging in order to actually find them. Specifically, you’ll need to go to the ‘Rest of World’ region when selecting your team, and you’ll find Wrexham AFC here.

This is because the National League doesn’t actually feature as one of the English leagues in FIFA 23, and as such, technically they shouldn’t be in the game. However, due to the surge in popularity and interest of the team, EA Sports has added them as one of the ‘Rest of World’ teams. This was the case in FIFA 22, and it’s likely it’ll remain the same in the upcoming new release, too.

It’s worth noting that if Wrexham happened to win the Vanarama National League this season, then they’d be promoted into League 2, which may result in them then moving out of the ‘Rest of the World’ region in the subsequent FIFA 24 when the rosters and leagues are updated. We’re getting a little bit ahead of ourselves here, though, as there’s still a long way to go in the season.

You can follow the turbulent journey of ownership that McElhenney and Reynolds have embarked on via the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ series from FX now available on Disney+.

That’s everything you need to know on whether or not you can play as Wrexham in FIFA 23. For more tips and tricks on the game, be sure to search for Twinfinite or check out more of our coverage on the game below.

Sega's sci-fi shooter Hyenas has left me with more questions than answers

1 year 7 months ago

Of all the games I saw at this year's Gamescom, sci-fi team-based shooter Hyenas easily claims the title of "Most Confusing Overall Experience". Bouncing between appointments in this sea of booths and lanyards was jarring, but I'd eventually settle in after a few minutes of reconfiguring my brain to whatever presentation or control scheme was placed in front of me. Hyenas never gave me a chance.

I sat in a 20-minute presentation of the game and tried my level best to understand SEGA's stab at a live-service FPS. Instead, I exited the booth with whiplash... and a sense of curiosity. Somewhere inside the game's insufferable tone is a kernel of cleverness, I just need to get my mitts on it to confirm my suspicions. Otherwise, it's very difficult to really understand whether it can survive in such a saturated space.

Brewmaster Beer Simulator Releases in Late September 2022

1 year 7 months ago

Games that feature beer tend to be more about drinking or drinking games than the beer itself. Now it's time to embrace tradition and get the original "homebrew" into your system. Brewmaster is a new indie game focused on the art and science of making beer. Developer Auroch Digital and publisher Fireshine Games debuted Brewmaster: Beer Brewing Simulator at the Awesome Indies Showcase held during last week's Gamescom 2022 festivities. The game itself releases on consoles and PC via Steam on September 29, 2022.

Check out the trailer below, via IGN.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ggxESUhEGjw

Brewmaster puts players in the role of a startup homebrew craft beer brewer. Fireshine focuses on realistic mechanics and "authentic, chemistry-driven brewing techniques". It's also aimed at both beginners and existing beer afficionados, with educational content about various beer types, and systems like bottling, labeling, and naming custom brews. The trailer shows the simulator working in first-person view. Players prepare grains, hops (the flowers of the hop plant, used to add flavor to the brew), yeast, and more to make their digital simulacrum of the world's third most-popular drink (after water and tea).

Immortality review - an ingenious Hollywood mystery made less profound by the invitation to solve it

1 year 7 months ago

There's a theory going that Christopher Nolan is haunted by Stanley Kubrick - haunted but, crucially, not possessed. Nolan's hardly shunned the comparisons (and fair enough - few directors would). He naturally talked about 2001: A Space Odyssey during the promotional rounds for Interstellar, his sci-fi epic about humanity's place in the universe. And about the way Hans Zimmer, his composer, borrowed moments of 2001's Thus Spake Zarathustra and worked that into Interstellar's score.

But the reason he's haunted by Kubrick, as opposed to possessed, is that while Nolan's work has always channelled a bit of Kubrick's, it's never truly become it - never quite ascending to that plane. Nolan, since the still extraordinary Memento, has been a director who takes the themes, the scale, the technical marvel of directors like Kubrick and channelled these into making films that are repeatedly, often incomparably impressive. The problem, and the reason why it often feels like he's carrying around this Kubrickian curse, is there is a difference between films that are impressive and films that are profound.

The temptation for me here is to look at Immortality, a game of demons, vice, and backwards talking, centred on mystery and murder, and say that just as Nolan is haunted by Kubrick, Sam Barlow, Immortality's director and co-writer, is haunted by David Lynch.

The Last of Us Part 1 Video Takes Players Through Remade Bill’s Town

1 year 7 months ago

A brand new Last of Us Part 1 gameplay video shows off the new look of Bill’s Town, which is the fourth chapter of the game. Those concerned about spoilers should be slightly wary, as this does still show off cutscenes. However, it isn’t the full chapter, it begins around halfway into it. Though presumably, anyone who was ever going to play The Last of Us has done so by now, so it shouldn’t matter too much.

This chapter is the part of the game where Joel and Ellie must work with the paranoid Bill to get to the school to find some necessary tools for their journey. This is a great look at a pretty mellow section of the game that best shows off the game’s update.

You can watch the video for yourself below. It’s a hair over seven minutes and does ruin a couple of surprises if you truly have avoided the game up until now somehow.

How To Fix ‘TPM Version 2.0’ Error in Valorant

1 year 7 months ago

Many Valorant players have noticed an error code that crops up after having upgraded to Windows 11. Thankfully, there is a solution, but it’s quite involved, so we’re here to offer guidance on how to fix Valorant TPM Version 2.0 Error Code if you’re struggling to work it out.

What Is ‘TPM Version 2.0’ Error

In an effort to combat cheating in Valorant, Riot Games employs a protection system called Vanguard. This is, however, not the only measure; there is also something called TPM 2.0, a security feature common on many computers and is actually mandatory on those that run Windows 11. If TPM 2.0 isn’t activated on your computer, though, your computer won’t run properly and certainly won’t run Valorant. This is likely the root cause of the issue that is impacting your experience.

How To Fix ‘TPM Version 2.0’ Error in Valorant

In case it wasn’t obvious already, in most cases, the trick to solving TPM Version 2.0 error is to ensure you have both TPM and Secure Boot on their computers. This is a somewhat involved process that requires you to access BIOS and make some settings changes. Follow these steps:

  1. Start by opening BIOS using whichever key combination is appropriate on your device (usually some combination of F2, F12, Delete, etc)

  2. Once BIOS is open, locate ‘Secure Boot,’ which is usually under a Boot Tab..

Pokemon Company Teases New Pokemon Grafaiai Via Mysterious Photos

1 year 7 months ago

Today, another set of photos appeared and captured a shadowy glimpse of the new Pokemon Grafaiai in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet. This Pokemon is apparently quite difficult to catch in action, and the most recent photos only show distant silhouettes that don’t reveal too much of the Pokemon’s appearance.

Grafaiai could be a mix of the words “graffiti” and “aye-aye” to represent its painting habit and a long-fingered lemur from the island of Madagascar. Some may recognize the name AiAi from the title character of Super Monkey Ball and naturally connect that name to a primate, so it’s likely that Grafaiai will be a lemur of sorts.

FIFA 23 Accidentally Released Early on Xbox Due to a Glitch

1 year 7 months ago

If you are a FIFA player and Xbox user, Tuesday was your lucky day, as The Mirror reported that users were able to access FIFA 23 one month earlier than its advertised Sept. 30, 2022 release date. According to the report, players have been able to download the Xbox One version in its entirety for a while now, leading to player rating leaks, soundtrack reveals, and much more.

Game modes such as FIFA Ultimate Team were fully available, with said player ratings making their way across the web. Others who had access to the FIFA 23 Closed Beta were able to update that file as one normally would, thus enabling them to download the full version of the latest installment. EA Play members, who normally would have gotten access to the game three days early on Sept. 27, were also able to access the full version.

So if you’re an Xbox user who woke up to a fairly unbelievable surprise today, let’s hope you made the most of it. There’s no guarantee the glitch will stick around, and as it happens, players are already saying it is no longer working.

Whatever the case may be, FIFA 23 was accidentally released early, with many getting the word out on everything the final team-up between EA Sports and FIFA has to offer. While full access to the game may no longer be available or may not be available for much longer, it clearly hasn’t stopped everybody.

New World’s Biggest Update Yet Adds New Brimstone Sands Zone, Open-World & NPC Quest Overhaul

1 year 7 months ago

You’ve probably heard about the many failures of New World at this point, including its economic and market crash, along with the myriad bugs that plagued the game in the weeks after its launch. Outside of that, however, New World showed tremendous potential. While my time with the game got cut short after extreme endgame burnout, Aeturnum was still a rich world with so much care and detail put into every corner of it.

Amazon Game Studios has just announced the game’s biggest update yet, titled Brimstone Sands. This adds a whole new region to the map for players to explore, and yes, factions will once again be able to fight for the settlements here for control. And before you ask, no, faction progress will not be reset. If your server was already dominated by a certain faction, chances are good that they’ll continue to dominate in the Brimstone Sands.

I got to attend a hands-off virtual preview event of the update, and the Brimstone Sands region does look refreshingly different from the forests and wilds of the rest of Aeturnum. The desert-themed area is ravaged by zombified versions of the Roman Empire’s 19th Legion, and a new questline will allow players to uncover the story behind their corruption.

The Brimstone Sands are reported to be at least three times the size of any other zone in the game, so players can probably expect this update to be pretty hefty in terms of content and exploration.

Complete Guide to Gender, Expression, and Sexuality in The Sims 4

The Sims franchise has always been revolutionary handled sexual orientation. Before LGBTQ rights became a widespread topic, Simmers could live out the queer lives of their dreams in The Sims. The Gender Expression and Sexual Orientation options in The Sims 4 give Simmers even more control over the diversity and expression of their Sims. Here’s everything you need to know.

Gender Expression in The Sims 4 CAS

The Create-A-Sim menu has several options that allow Simmers to make Sims with a wide range of gender expressions. You’ll probably notice right away that there’s no checkbox for gender identity. That’s because gender identity isn’t something that you can see from the outside – it’s something a person (or Sim) feels on the inside. What you see and what you’re able to control in CAS is a Sim’s gender expression.

It finishes with a frag montage that’s really well put together with some great effects and timing with the music.

The group stage of Valorant Champions starts tomorrow, Aug. 31, with a showdown between Singapore’s PapeRex and China’s Edward Gaming at 10am EST. The group stage is set to run for just over a week until a double-elimination play-off begins on Sept. 9. You can find out how to watch the event in our detailed guide here. The event’s prize pool hasn’t yet been confirmed but is expected to top $1 million.

Lost Soul Aside Won’t Appear at Chinajoy but Has “Big Chance” to Get News Before the End of 2022

1 year 7 months ago

Lost Soul Aside developer Ultizero Games has provided a small update for the fans of the China Hero Project JRPG.

According to an announcement made on Twitter, the game won’t appear at ChinaJoy, which is currently being hosted.

That being said, development is proceeding smoothly and there’s a “big chance” that we’ll hear about the game before the end of 2022.

You can check out the tweet below.

If you’re unfamiliar with Lost Soul Aside, it was revealed back in 2016 as a solo project by indie developer Yang Bing, and it immediately drew attention from the industry due to its impressive visuals and animation.

The developer then went on to form Ultizero Games to continue the project under the umbrella of Sony’s China Hero Project.

Through the years, the studio has showcased new builds that were as impressive as the game’s media debut, and some were even playable at events.
