Opinion: Netflix's BioShock Movie Should be a Prequel, Not an Adaptation

1 year 7 months ago

After years of false starts and being trapped in development hell, it seems the BioShock movie is finally becoming a reality. Netflix has snatched up the rights to this iconic sci-fi shooter franchise, and the movie now has a director in The Hunger Games' Francis Lawrence.

Unfortunately, if the past several decades have taught us anything, it's that great gaming source material doesn't automatically translate to great movies. If Netflix wants to escape the video game movie curse, there's one critical rule to follow. The BioShock movie shouldn't be a direct adaptation of the original game. Instead, it should be a prequel. Here's why a prequel movie stands a better chance of doing justice to the games.

What Would a BioShock Prequel Be About?

The nice thing about the original BioShock is that it leaves plenty of room to explore the events leading up to the game. BioShock is set in 1960, with a plane crash survivor named Jack stumbling across the underwater city of Rapture. Once intended to be a monument to man's ingenuity and unlimited potential, Rapture has instead become a dilapidated ruin infested by Splicers - humans addicted to a rare, gene-altering substance known as Adam. BioShock becomes the story of Jack's struggle to navigate Rapture, uncover the secrets behind its decaying walls and come to terms with his own connection to the city and its founder, Andrew Ryan.

Who Dies in House of the Dragon?

1 year 7 months ago

Death is practically a tradition in George R. R. Martin’s A Game of Thrones, and House of the Dragon isn’t any different. No character is safe when the Iron Throne is involved, and the death count is already rising despite the series being in its infancy. Keeping in mind that spoilers are ahead, here’s who dies in House of the Dragon, including Fire & Blood.

WARNING: The following article contains MAJOR SPOILERS to House of the Dragon and the source material, Fire & Blood.

Who Dies in House of the Dragon?

So far only four people bit the dust in House of the Dragon, which is nothing compared to Game of Thrones. As of Aug. 28, 2022, here is every person that has died so far, what caused it, and in which episode.

  • Queen Aemma Arryn – Died giving birth to Baelon Targaryen via c-section (The Heirs of the Dragon; Season 1, Episode 1).
  • Prince Baelon Targaryen – Died of complications stemming from childbirth (The Heirs of the Dragon; Season 1, Episode 1).
  • Lady Hightower – Died pre-House of the Dragon.
  • Ser Ryam Redwyne – Died in his sleep (The Rogue Prince; Season 1, Episode 2).

Out of the deaths listed above, Queen Aemma Arryn and Prince Baelon Targaryen have the most impact on House of the Dragon, considering their deaths ultimately lead to the Dance of the Dragons.

WARNING: The following section contains even more MAJOR SPOILERS to House of the Dragon and the source material, Fire & Blood.

Who Is the Crabfeeder in House of the Dragon?

1 year 7 months ago

House of the Dragon Episode 2 revealed a mysterious character during the conversation between Lord Corlys and Prince Daemon Targaryen. But, you may be wondering, who is Crabfeeder, and what role does he play in the storyline? In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about the character and his arc within Game of Thrones.

Who Is the Crabfeeder in House of the Dragon? Answered

According to the Game of Thrones lore, the Crabfeeder, also known as Craghas Drahar, is a Myrish prince who serves the Triarchy, an alliance of the Free Cities: Lys, Myr, and Tyrosh. He earned his name “Crabfeeder” by brutally staking pirates on beaches while getting eaten by crabs and drowning in the tide.

Craghas’ primary mission is to conquer Stepstones, as shown in House of the Dragon, and was initially met with praise from the Seven Kingdoms since he drove out many outlaws from the area. However, as time passed, Crabfeeder and his army became greedy with the toll currency, causing Lord Corlys Velaryon to ask Daemon Targaryen to stop Crabfeeder’s corruption.

Many trades in the Narrow Sea proved profitable for House Velaryon, but Craghas Drahar’s outrageous prices negatively affected business. As a result, an all-out war for Stepstones begins in 106 AC (After the Conquest).

The Callisto Protocol Developer Teases Spectacular Moment that We Haven’t Seen Yet & Was a Big Challenge to Create

1 year 7 months ago

What we have seen of The Callisto Protocol looks really good so far, but apparently, the developers at Striking Distance Studios have something even more impressive in store.

Twinfinite talked to chief technology officer Mark James at Gamescom 2022, and he revealed that the scene in the water at the end of the trailer showcased at Opening Night Live was very challenging to achieve due to the fast-moving water simulation.

Yet, according to James, there is a “big event” in the game that was even more challenging to achieve. That moment hasn’t been shown yet, but it was even more of a challenge to create for the developer in terms of VFX (visual effects), and it’s more spectacular due to that.

While James did not share more to avoid spoilers, it’s certainly intriguing, especially considering just how impressive what we’ve seen so far of The Callisto Protocol is.

We’ll have to wait and see, even because we don’t know whether this “big event” will be showcased before launch or will actually be left for players to discover directly within the game.

The Callisto Protocol releases on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on December 2, 2022.

Of course, you should stay tuned on Twinfinite for the publishing of the full interview, which will come soon.

All Demon Slayer Arcs in Order

1 year 7 months ago

Sometimes, the order of anime arcs can be a little bit confusing, leaving you to wonder when certain episodes take place and what story they were a part of. And while Demon Slayer is more linear than others, it’s still nice to know the order, especially when it pertains to figuring out how much is still left to be adapted. Here is everything you need to know about all the Demon Slayer Arcs, in order.

All Demon Slayer Arcs in Order

  1. Final Selection Arc (Ep. 1-5)
  2. Kidnapper’s Bog Arc (Ep. 6-7)
  3. Asakusa Arc (Ep. 8-10)
  4. Tsuzumi Mansion Arc (Ep. 11-14)
  5. Mount Natagumo Arc (Ep. 15-21)
  6. Rehabilitation Training Arc (Ep. 22-26)
  7. Mugen Train Arc (Ep. 27-34)
  8. Entertainment District Arc (Ep. 34-44)
  9. Swordsmith Village Arc (TBA)

The next arc, Swordsmith Village arc, has received a trailer, but we’ve yet to hear anything about a release window or anything regarding when we can expect it. After that, there’s only two more arcs that are left to be adapted from the source material.

While it is certainly possible that filler can be added in, it’s not likely, as we haven’t seen any significant changes from the source material in the anime so far. If you are interested in seeing the chapter names, you can check them out below, but beware, there are light spoilers ahead by seeing the manga chapter titles alone, so look at your own risk.

A Terrible Kevin Hart & Mark Wahlberg Buddy Comedy Is Laughing Its Way To The Top of The Streaming Charts

1 year 7 months ago

Sometimes, you just want to go on a streaming server and watch a comedy that doesn’t make you think too hard and is good for a laugh or two, thanks mostly in part to your low expectations. When you think of Kevin Hart and Mark Wahlberg, there is a good chance that at least one of those two will be in just that type of movie when you’re pursuing one of these platforms, especially when it comes to buddy comedy.

What if I were to tell you that there is currently a new film on Netflix that is not only a buddy comedy but also stars both of these notorious actors? Would you think it would top the charts? Well, somehow, you’d be right.

According to FlixPatrol the 2022 film Me Time has laughed its way to the very top of the world’s largest streaming platform in less than a week’s time. In the three days since its release, the movie managed to beat out Loving Adults, The Mummy, and a whole lot more popular films on the platform to come in at #1.

Directed and written by John Hamburg, Me Time follows Sonny Fisher (Kevin Hart), a stay-at-home dad that finds himself with alone time for the first time in years while his wife and kids are away. During this, he reconnects with his former best friend, Huck Dembo (Mark Wahlberg), resulting in a chaotic and wild weekend.

According to critics, the film is downright dreadful, as it failed to even receive a double-digit score on rotten tomatoes, posting a measly 8 percent on the Tomatometer. The audience wasn’t too much kinder to Me Time, with the public giving it a 31 percent on the Tomatometer. From the reviews, it’s clear that everyone needed a bit of personal space from the film after sitting through it.

Super Mario 3D All-Stars' Brief Run Netted Nearly 10 Million Units According to New Sales Numbers

1 year 7 months ago

Nintendo only gave fans six months to rush out and buy Super Mario 3D All-Stars before delisting it digitally and ending its physical run. But the move appears to have paid off from a sales perspective.

After months of rumors, Super Mario 3D All-Stars was announced in Nintendo's Super Mario 35th Anniversary Nintendo Direct. Is House Greyjoy in House of the Dragon?

1 year 7 months ago

George R. R. Martin’s A Games of Thrones book series features numerous noble houses, both small and large, lowly vassals and Great Houses. House of the Dragon shifts gears by pouring its attention on House Targaryen and their bloody history, when the Targaryens were at the height of their power. A few recognizable names show up, like Stark and Lannister, but is House Greyjoy in House of the Dragon, too?

WARNING: The following section contains possible spoilers for House of the Dragon and the source material, Fire & Blood.

Is House Greyjoy in House of the Dragon?

No, House Greyjoy is not in House of the Dragon, but it isn’t outside the realm of possibility. While House of the Dragon focuses mostly on House Targaryen and family infighting, a few notable characters from the other Great Houses do make an appearance and have minor but important roles, House Greyjoy included.

It’s during the Dance of the Dragons that House Greyjoy, led by Dalton Greyjoy, joins forces with Rhaenyra Targaryen in order to cripple Aegon II. Since Season 1 of House of the Dragon only covers the events before the Dance of the Dragons, that means—and this is just speculation—that House Greyjoy’s earliest appearance could be Season 2.

Again, House Greyjoy isn’t in House of the Dragon, but that could change as the season unfolds. For more on House of the Dragon, read up on who Crabfeeder is, the pirate mentioned in season 1, episode 2. Afterward, find out who’s died so far in House of the Dragon.

Gungrave G.O.R.E. Trailer Reveals The Zany Cast And A Release Date

1 year 7 months ago

Gungrave G.O.R.E. marks the return of the Gungrave franchise after almost 20 years (well, besides that VR game), and today we found out that the sequel is coming just in time for Thanksgiving. A new cinematic trailer shown during Gamescom reveals a November release date, and it runs down the wacky cast of characters and why you'll be riddling them with bullets.

The largely CG trailer sprinkles in a bit of in-game action, though you should check out this previous gameplay video for a better taste of the over-the-top combat. We’re introduced to Grave’s allies who band together to take on a fearsome foursome of antagonists looking to rule the world (probably). Fans of the PS2 games and the anime that spawned from them will be happy to know that G.O.R.E. looks as bombastic and absurd as they'd expect. Newcomers that enjoy bullets, blood, and insanity will likely feel right at home.

Gungrave G.O.R.E. launches November 22 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. Pre-ordering nets you a special Grim Reaper skin designed by former Tango Gameworks designer Ikumi Nakamura, who is working on G.O.R.E. as a character artist.

Is Multiversus On Switch? Answered

1 year 7 months ago

If you’re wondering whether Multiversus is on Switch, here’s what you need to know.

Multiversus, the newest crossover fighting game from Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, has been a massive success since its full release in August. In less than a month, it’s reached 10 million players, while topping the NPD’s July 2022 sales chart despite still being in early access at the time.

With all of this success, some have wondered if Multiversus will receive a Nintendo Switch release in the future. Its crossover fighting nature would fit right alongside titles like Super Smash Bros. Ultimate and Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl.

Can Switch Players Get In on Multiversus?

In short, no; Multiversus is not currently available for Nintendo Switch. Despite releasing on a vast majority of platforms across multiple console generations, Nintendo’s hybrid console is not one of them.

Before release, Tony Hyunh, the game director of Multiversus, discussed the lack of a Switch port on Twitter. He attributed the decision to having a limited number of resources to make such a release happen in the short term.

Top 10 Best Competitive Commander Decks (cEDH) in Magic: The Gathering

1 year 7 months ago

The most popular format of Magic the Gathering is Elder Dragon Highlander, better known as Commander. Created to be a casual format, it quickly spawned a more competitive meta for players who compete to win. With that in mind, these are the best competitive Commander decks in Magic: The Gathering.

If you’re new to Commander, you might be wondering what’s the difference between a casual and competitive deck? The main differences are the power level of certain cards and the way in which a cEDH deck plans to win.

All cEDH decks use cards that are incredibly powerful and seem borderline broken. Most cards in this category are generally banned in most other formats, are notoriously rare, and fetching high prices. The same holds true for the use of original dual lands from the earliest sets.

When it comes to a cEDH deck’s strategy to win, it’s usually based around an infinite combo of sorts. This combo allows the player to either gain infinite mana, draw their entire deck, make everyone else lose immediately, or outright win on the spot.

To accomplish this, decks will include fast mana to help fix their mana base and ramp spells. This is a normal part of MtG, but the cards used for cEDH are relatively overpowered and pricey. Examples of these cards include Ancient Tomb, Mana Crypt, and the set of Moxes.

And in order to get the combo consistently and quickly, cEDH decks will also run tutor cards that let players search their decks for specific cards. Again, this is an acceptable part of playing MtG, but the tutor cards used in cEDH are the best of the best. Examples of these cards include Mystic Tutor and Entomb.

Now let’s take a look at 10 of the most powerful cEDH commanders, their winning strategies, and explore some of the key cards that you should put into your decks.

Does Rhaenyra Become Queen in Episode 2 of House of the Dragon?

1 year 7 months ago

House of the Dragon has aired its first two episodes, and it is already full of people politicking to get as close to the Iron Throne as they can. The first episode of the Targaryen-focused series sees Rhaenyra Targaryen be declared as the heir to the throne, but does she become Queen in the next episode? Twinfinite has the answer for you as this is whether or not Rhaenyra Targaryen becomes Queen in episode two of House of the Dragon.

Warning: Spoilers for House of the Dragon’s second episode follows below.

Does Rhaenyra Become Queen in Episode 2 of House of the Dragon?

No, Rhaenyra does not become Queen during the second episode of House of the Dragon; in fact, quite the opposite seemingly happens. Despite being named as the heir to the Iron Throne, we see that very little has changed for Rhaenyra in how she is seen by the men at the small council, causing her to doubt her standing.

By the end of the episode, Rhaenyra accepts that her father must remarry for the good of the kingdom; however, she didn’t count on him choosing her best friend Alicent over the clear choice of Laena. So now, with King Viserys’ choice, Alicent Hightower will likely become the new Queen Consort. To make matters worse for Rhaenyra, if Alicent provides a male heir, that boy will presumably be the preferred choice for the throne, the very thing that Princess Rhaenys warned Rhaenyra about.

Where are The Stepstones/Free Cities in House of the Dragon

1 year 7 months ago

The world of a Song of Ice and Fire is a vast one, with the many tales set in the universe created by George R.R. Martin taking place across a huge geographical area, over the course of thousands of years. While you might be familiar with Westeros, as Game of Thrones was primarily set there, House of the Dragon has begun to look to the east, and in particular to an archipelago called the Stepstones, occupied by the Free Cities. Let’s take a look at just exactly where are the Stepstones/Free Cities.

Stepstones/Free Cities in Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon

The Stepstones are located in the southwest of Essos, a region dominated by an alliance of the Free Cities known as the Triarchy. The Triarchy consists of the Free Cities of Myr, Lys and Tyrosh, whose geographical location forms an inverted triangle, which you can see below. There are six other Free Cities scattered across Essos: Bravos, Lorath, Norvos, Pentos, Quohor and Volantis.

What Is the Triarchy in Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon?

1 year 7 months ago

House of Dragons is already shaping up to be as riveting a watch as its predecessor, Game of Thrones was thanks in no small part to its nuanced politicking and internecine factionalism. But with so many new characters introduced, and allegiances constantly shifting, it can be hard to keep it all straight. A prime example is the Triarchy. We will attempt to keep this guide as spoiler free as possible and focus instead on answering the question at hand. Let’s take a look at what is the Triarchy in Game of Thrones: House of the Dragon.

What Is the Triarchy in House of Dragon?

The Triarchy is an alliance of the Free Cities of Myr, Lys and Tyrosh, cities that began as colonial outposts of the Valyrian empire, also known as the Valyrian Freehold.

In the map below, the Triarchy is situated in a triangular formation on a series of islands known as the Stepstones, in the Narrow Sea south of Dragonstone.

Sonic Frontiers wrestles with taking the series' essence to the Open Zone

1 year 7 months ago

Back in May of 2018, I remember briefly asking Junichi Masuda, then of Pokémon developer Game Freak (and now chief creative officer at the Pokémon Company), whether Pokémon might one day follow the likes of Zelda and Mario into some kind of open-world format. At the time he called it a "possibility," if, and only if, the studio could find the right way to balance the traditional Pokémon staples with the open-world formula that was proving so successful elsewhere. It wasn't until this January, a good four years later (a lifetime in Pokémon development terms), that we saw what that possibility really was in Pokémon Legends Arceus - an open-ish world game that was really more of a series of open areas, linked together but gated according to your progress, and that progress achieved by doing very traditional, classically Pokémon things.

Pokémon is of course barely relevant here, but that means of going sort-of-open-world might sound familiar to those with a close eye on Sonic Frontiers. It's another knot in the thread, which we can now rather neatly tie from Breath of the Wild's leap into the fully open world to Sonic, this coming November, doing the same in its own way.

Immortality Review

1 year 7 months ago

It would appear that the recent decision by Warner Bros. to scrap the release of its near-completed Batgirl movie was motivated entirely by boring old tax reasons, but what if there was something far more sinister at play? Such is the setup for Immortality, the latest investigative thriller from the makers of Her Story and Telling Lies, which had me scouring through an archive of FMV footage from three unreleased films in an attempt to discover exactly why they never saw the light of day. In spite of some surprisingly shallow search tools what followed was a thoroughly absorbing undertaking that began as a sort of jigsaw puzzle but morphed into the motion picture equivalent of a Magic Eye poster, and I sat completely transfixed as each piece fell into place until suddenly Immortality’s true subject snapped into focus and its shocking bigger picture was revealed.

It was reported back in May this year that a fresh Mafia game was indeed in development at Hangar 13, and that it would apparently be set before the existing Mafia trilogy. This would place the game back in the prohibition era of the original - or perhaps earlier.

Pac-Man World Re-Pac Review – A Classic Experiment Modernized

1 year 7 months ago

Pac-Man World Re-Pac on PS5

Making old things new again is a trend that doesn’t seem like it will go away anytime soon, and with that sees the arrival of Pac-Man World Re-Pac, the remake of the 1999 PS1 classic that is Pac-Man World from Bandai Namco. For those seeking an entertaining mascot platformer, this remake of the experimental game is definitely worth checking out.

Announced back in June during Nintendo’s Direct Mini, Pac-Man World Re-Pac is certainly more straightforward compared to some of its more modern counterparts when it comes to story and gameplay. Having returned home for his birthday celebration, our hero arrives only to discover that his entire family has been kidnapped while the dastardly ghosts are using his image to lure unwitting folks to Ghost Island. To defeat the villainous Toc-Man behind it all, Pac-Man must use his talents in the arena of platforming rather than the maze navigation skills he is known for.

Immortality review: a peeling apart of stories, power and film that can't quite balance on a knife edge

1 year 7 months ago

Drumroll, please, for the latest interactive, live action, film archival puzzle from Sam Barlow, of Her Story and Telling Lies. This latest rumination on voyeurism also delves into storytelling, sex, death, religion, love, lust, lies, pretence (as distinct from acting), power and self. That's a lot to pack into the partial, out of order clips of three different films, which manage to span both decades and careers. The central figure is Marissa Marcel, an almost-star actor who made three movies before disappearing. So the question you strive to answer, by looking through unedited takes and rehearsal footage, is: what happened to Marissa Marcel?

In typical Barlow fashion, the entirety of the footage isn't easily spooled through. From one starting clip you're able to watch it, flick back and forth through the recording, and pause it to use the in-game search tool to focus on a face or object on screen. Selecting it will then take you to that face or a similar object in a different clip, and eventually you build up a much fuller catalogue of footage.

Now. Immortality also talks quite a bit about sex, in various ways and for various reasons, and there is female nudity. So yes, you can enhance! Zoom! on a tit. And the game will take you to another clip featuring a similar tit. Ba-dum, tsh!

The latest Dragon Ball Super movie isn’t just a hit in the west. As of August 21, 2022, the movie made $51.6 million worldwide, with the United States contributing $21 million of that at the time. When the movie first launched in Japan back on June 11, 2022, it made 2.49 billion yen, which is around $18.16 million.

The plot of the film revolves around the revival of the Red Ribbon Arm, with Magenta hoping to recruit Dr. Gero’s grandson Dr. Hedo. Super Hero also focuses on the relationship between Gohan and Piccolo. Some critics on Rotten Tomatoes specifically noted that the subplot around those two was a major boon to the story.

At the same time, Hulst announced Sony was acquiring Savage Game Studios, a mobile game team based in Berlin and Helsinki, and folding it into the new PlayStation Studios Mobile Division, which will "operate independently from our console development and focus on innovative, on-the-go experiences based on new and existing PlayStation IP".
